Previous analyses of “by the numbers” can be accessed by entering the phrase in the search box above. This is the third and final post this month where we look at the numbers to truly find out how good, not likely, or bad, most likely, the American political class is doing in managing our tax dollars, protecting our freedoms, and resolving major issues that affect all of us.
This latest set of by the numbers will focus on what Americans think, feel, and want done in Washington and elsewhere within the political class. We will show that many times what politicians are doing and what the mainstream media is reporting and harping on could not be further away from what Americans want done. Our main set of numbers will come from reputable poll taking organizations whose reputations and future rely on conducting and reporting on opinions and trends in an unbiased manner, something that most mainstream media outlets no longer feel they need to do.
1) As we all know, Hillary Clinton ran for but was defeated for the Presidency by Donald Trump last November. Unbelievably, there are news stories arising that she is thinking that she can become President four years from now in 2020 when Trump’s current term is over. Given that her health was not that great at her age last year running for President, I cannot imagine how much more her health and mental state will deteriorate four years from now.
But if she knew about the latest numbers from a recent opinion poll, she may want to ride off into the political sunset and forget about 2020:
- There has been a lot of chatter that she should run for mayor of New York City when it comes up for election.
- She is a New York state resident, New York City overwhelmingly voted for her for President, and the current mayor is not doing that great a job, factors all of which should point to an easy election win for her to become New York City’s next mayor.
- But that is why we always look at the numbers since a recent Rasmussen poll of 1,000 likely New York City voters was not kind to Hillary.
- Only 23% of those polled wanted her to run and become their next mayor.
- A whopping 58% of those likely voters polled said they did not want Clinton to run again for office with about 19% undecided.
- So by a margin of about two and a half to one, New York City voters rejected the concept of Hillary for mayor.
2) It is no secret that the mainstream media news organizations do not like Trump. They do not fawn over him like they did over Obama and he has talked to them and about them in a way that they have not been talked to in a long time. And in a way, who can blame him for some belligerency towards the press? They misreported things about him, harped on his shortcomings while ignoring Obama’s and Hillary Clinton’s shortcomings and transgressions, and openly rooted for Hillary to beat him in the Presidential election.
So given all of the bad blood between Trump and the mainstream press, where do Americans and the numbers land on who is right and who is wrong:
- According to a recent poll by Investors Business Daily, Trump comes out ahead among a sample of Americans when it comes to choosing sides, the mainstream press vs. Trump.
- 55% of those polled say that they have grown “weary from the media’s persistently negative coverage of president Trump.”
- 54% believe that the mainstream press “has assumed the role of the opposition party, constantly opposing the President and his policies at every turn.”
- 88% Republicans say they are tired of the relentless negativity and 55% of Independents say they are tired of the relentless negativity.
3) Nancy Hayes, writing for the Joe For America website on March 4, 2017, reported how Americans want Democrats to work with and cooperate with Trump as opposed to opposing everything he does which has been their mode of operation since Trump was sworn into office:
- A recent Rasmussen poll found that 63% of likely voter Americans say the country would be better off if Democrats try to work with the President, not opposing the President at every turn.
- Only 29% said the country would be better off if the Democrats “oppose the President in every possible way.”
- So by a more than two to one margin, Americans want those in Washington to work together, not continually attack each other.
- Even Democrats polled think it is better to work with Trump than to oppose him at every possible. 46% to 44%.
- That 46% voting for cooperation is up from 32% which was the level shortly after the election last November.
- According to a Rasmussen press release: “Most voters agree that it’s bad for America and bad for the Democratic Party if Democrats continue to flat out oppose everything President Trump does. Even Democrats are conflicted about their party’s scorched earth policy.”
So what do the numbers tell us today: Hillary should go away, the mainstream press is out of touch with what Americans feel and think, and Americans want Washington politicians to play nice and work on solutions rather than a continuous scorched earth political juvenile fit. More numbers tomorrow.
