November, 2017, Part 3, The Unfolding Disaster That Is Obama Care: Personal Horror Stories and More

Every month for years now we have had to discuss how bad Obama Care is turning out to be under the continuing theme, “the unfolding disaster that is Obama Care.” This month is no different. As the legislation continues to march through America, driving up health care and health insurance prices as it serves as dead weight on economic growth, it cements its rightful place as the worst piece of legislation Washington has ever produced.

It never had a chance to be successful since it really never addressed the underlying root causes of our ever increasing health costs in the country:
  • Americans eat too much of the wrong kind of food, resulting in obscenely high obesity rates for the country.
  • Our food chain is infested with overdoses of high fructose corn syrup, salt, sugar, and other unhealthy additives.
  • Americans smoke too much.
  • Americans do not exercise enough.
  • The country is in serious need of health care tort reform.
  • Barriers to insurance company competition across state lines need to come down.
  • Obama Care never “followed the money” to find out who is actually profiting from the ever escalating healthcare costs in this country and how to get those factors under control.
  • Obama Care never got the immense amount of fraud and abuse in current government healthcare programs, Medicare and Medicaid, under control in order to save money to efficiently fund other government health care initiatives.
  • Obama Care never put serious research money towards curing the major diseases that drive high healthcare costs such as high frequency cancers and dementia type diseases.
You cannot resolve any problem unless you understand and address the underlying root causes. No difference here: Obama Care legislation never addressed these listed root causes and thus, has no chance of ever being successful.

But it is not just missing the root causes of our healthcare costs that makes Obama Care so horrible. It resulted in millions of Americans losing access to their favored doctors, hospitals, and insurance policies. It has caused insurance premiums, deductibles and co-pays to escalate substantially. It will likely add trillions of dollars to the national debt. It has exposed millions of Americans to higher than necessary identity theft chances. It has created government bureaucracies that are wastefully spending taxpayer wealth and being exploited by criminal elements. It has stifled economic growth and job creation.

These are just a sample of the types of idiocy that we have been reviewing for the past several years in this blog relative to Obama Care. To read those past posts, just enter the phrase, “the unfolding disaster,” in the search box above.

1) Many people, mostly liberals and Democrats, have finally realized that Obama Care is a failure. But rather than admit that government bureaucrats and politicians meddling in the healthcare market makes things worse, they want to double down and increase government meddling in the market.

Most frequently mentioned meddling efforts include the so-called single payer system used in such countries as England where the Federal government, and the bureaucrats and politicians that operate it, would be in charge of ALL health care decisions in your life. Given that these same people cannot operate a postal system effectively or a government railroad system (AMTRAK) efficiently despite decades or centuries of practice, doesn't bode well for letting them take over the country’s health care industry.

Recent news out of England shows what happens when the government is in charge of all of your healthcare needs:

  • The largest government single payer system in the world, the British National Health Service, recently announced that it will no longer provide non-urgent surgery to people who smoke or who exceed a certain BMI level, i.e. they are fat or obese.
  • The driver for this restriction is the need to get costs under control since the system is facing a severe shortage of money to spend.
  • Before getting medical care, obese people will have to to lose enough weight to qualify for health care and smokers would have to have not smoked for at least eight weeks prior to getting care.
  • Now, while these folks may have gotten themselves into these health conditions because of their actions, over eating, under exercising, smoking, etc., does it make sense to make them suffer by denying them health care when they probably need it most?
  • Is it humane to make them wait longer for care, quite possibly making their eventual care more expensive, more painful, and more dangerous?
  • Or as we discussed above, would it have been a better idea to attack the root causes of high healthcare ahead of time rather than afterwards?

Much like Obama Care, it appears that Great Britain tried to apply an insurance option against a public health problem with the net result being that root causes are never wiped out or reduced and eventually the system’s monetary resources start to cause cutbacks and rationing.

Lots of good questions that show a single payer system is not the answer to ever increasing healthcare costs. Plus, in a free country, do you want a government bureaucrat deciding whether or not you should see your healthcare needs taken care of even if you paid into that health care process via taxes for years and years?

And one final question: while you may not care if someone dies or suffers because they were denied medical treatment as a result of being overweight or were a smoker because you are not overweight or a smoker, where does the bureaucracy stop in order to be financially stable? If you are a beer drinker, a pot smoker, a non-exerciser, someone with a bad gene, who knows, you may be next to be denied medical treatment in order to save a few bucks to keep the bureaucracy functioning.

Fixing healthcare costs in this country is not going to get done by creating government bureaucracies and deciding who and what gets medical treatment. It gets fixed by addressing the root causes and treating those causes as a public health crisis, not coming up with some Rube Goldberg insurance process doomed to failure.

2) As we do with most monthly reviews of the unfolding disaster that is Obama Care, let's hear from real Americans who suffered some real trauma, medical and financial, as a result of the failure that is Obama Care. As always, our source for such agony is the following website:

www.ourhealthcarestories.com

Jerry - Arkansas:  When Jerry Buckley of Marion bought a health insurance plan for him and his wife two years ago, he wasn’t worried about whether he would be able to keep it after new regulations took effect under the federal Affordable Care Act.

“I didn’t pay any attention to that because the president kept telling you, this won’t affect you if you like what you have,” Buckley said last week.

A few months ago, Buckley received a letter from Arkansas Blue Cross Blue Shield advising him that his plan does not comply with new standards taking effect Jan. 1 under the health care law. Buckley was told that he and his wife could stay on the plan through the end of 2014, thanks to an extension allowed by the Arkansas Insurance Department, but after that they would either be rolled over into a plan with triple the monthly premiums or they would have to shop for another plan.

Plans that were in effect when the Affordable Care Act was signed into law on March 23, 2010, are exempt, but the Buckleys are among millions of Americans who bought plans in the individual market that are not grandfathered in because they were purchased after that date.

The issue is giving more ammunition to opponents of the health care law who have also been sharply critical of the myriad technical problems surrounding the roll out of insurance marketplaces, including breakdowns in the national national website built to provide information and take applications for coverage.

Critics say President Obama’s repeated pledge that people who liked their insurance could keep it were at best misleading, as some Americans — estimates range from 7 million to 16 million — are on insurance that cannot continue to exist in its current form under the Affordable Care Act.

Supporters of the law say the people in that group will end up with fuller coverage, and many of them will be eligible for subsidies to help them buy insurance through the new insurance marketplaces.

But Buckley, whose income makes him ineligible for subsidies, doesn’t see an upside to switching. He said he likes his current plan, which has a $400 monthly premium, a $7,500 deductible and 100 percent coverage after the deductible, plus 80 percent coverage for dental and vision services.

He said that if he switches to the most closely comparable plan available through the Arkansas Health Insurance Marketplace, his monthly premium will increase to $600, his deductible will increase to $8,000 and he will have only 70 percent coverage after the deductible. Dental and vision coverage are not included but can be bought separately.

Buckley would gain some new benefits, such as coverage for maternity, mental health and substance abuse services, but he said he and his wife, who are middle-aged, neither want nor need those benefits.

“Our plan was custom-designed for our lifestyle,” he said. “To sit there and mandate that every plan has to have maternity coverage in it is absolutely ridiculous.”

Barbara, New York: said Barbara Meinwald, a solo practitioner lawyer in Manhattan.

Ms. Meinwald, 61, has been paying $10,000 a year for her insurance through the New York City Bar. A broker told her that a new temporary plan with fewer doctors would cost $5,000 more, after factoring in the cost of her medications.

Ms. Meinwald also looked on the state’s health insurance exchange. But she said she found that those plans did not have a good choice of doctors, and that it was hard to even find out who the doctors were, and which hospitals were covered. “It’s like you’re blindfolded and you’re told that you have to buy something,” she said.

Kent, Nebraska: We had our long time blue cross policy cancelled because it was not good enough for Obama care.

The policy we got offered cost us 25% more premium and increased our deductible from 5000.00 year put of pocket to 12,500.00 out of pocket.

It had to include crap like birth control and maternity which 50 year old people do not need. To apply for a subsidy we had to give out all of our personal financial data to lord we do not even know who.

Fred, California: I am self-employed and had a modest but workable policy for my wife and two kids paying $350 a month or $4200 a year. The best we found this year under Obamacare was a Cigna policy at $1200 a month with a huge deductible. I have a small business and don't qualify for any subsidies [As if I would want them], so our premium went from $4200 to $14,400 or an increase of 342%, hardly affordable. So, we're part of a medical sharing program and we're paying the FIRST $5000 of our own medical expenses.

We've been knocked in the teeth by OBAMACARE.............not to mention the loss of freedom and the government coercion.

Sky high increases in premiums and deductibles, lost coverage, forced to pay for coverage that is not needed, and loss of access to favored doctors and hospitals: the unfolding disaster that is Obama Care. More disasters sure to follow next month.

November, 2017, Part 2, The Unfolding Disaster That Is Obama Care: Three Simple Non-Obama Care Ways To Reduce Costs and a Governor Who Gets It

  • It never had a chance to be successful since it really never addressed the underlying root causes of our ever increasing health costs in the country:

1) We have previously reported on how the state of Maine took things into its own hands when it came to Medicaid and proved highly successful in reducing its Medicaid bills while providing much better healthcare support for many, many more of its citizens. That post and the details of this great effort can be accessed at:

https://loathemygovernment.blogspot.com/2017/03/march-2017-part-2the-unfolding-disaster.html

The following summarizes what they accomplished:

  • In six years, the state has reduced its Medicaid program enrollment by 24%.
  • Its annual growth in Medicaid costs is down to a respectable 2% a year, compared to the national annual cost growth rate of 6% a year.
  • The growth rate in 2017 is expected to be just .7%.
  • At the same time, funding for nursing home facilities has increased by 40%, home care funding has increased by 60%, and an additional $100 million was found to support state citizens with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
  • In addition, the state increased its financial support for primary care to better help individuals with chronic diseases while also increasing support for those with mental illness.
  • And despite slashing the Medicaid enrollment levels, the uninsured rate in the state has actually declined.
Reduced costs but improved healthcare for more people, does not get much better than that.

But when you make changes like this, even if they are the right changes, embedded interests, who have long thrived off the use of taxpayer wealth, tend to get a little pissed off. Such is the case in Maine as hospitals that have seen their Medicaid payments drop are not happy with the governor who has accomplished so much:

- According to Paul Chesser, writing for the Liberty headlines website on October 27, 2017, Maine Governor Paul LePage is in a confrontation with hospitals in his state over Medicaid.

- Apparently, CEOs of Maine hospitals have been pushing hard to expand Medicaid in the state and thus, expand their revenue streams.

- Although the Maine legislature has voted to expand Medicaid in the state five times since 2011, Le Page has vetoed the proposed legislation every time.

-While advocates claim that expanding the Medicaid program in the state would be richly supported by matching Federal taxpayer funds, LePage disagrees: “It’s obvious the CEO of Maine Med and other hospitals do not care about taking resources away from our most vulnerable Mainers—including our elderly and intellectually and physically disabled people—just so they can give free, taxpayer-funded healthcare to adults who should be working and contributing to the cost of their own health insurance.

Medicaid expansion will cost Mainers $500 million over the next five years. The last time Maine expanded Medicaid, the elderly and disabled were sent to the back of the line so working-age adults without dependents could get free healthcare. Now Maine Med and other hospitals want to do it again.

These CEOs make millions of dollars a year, and now they want to raise taxes by $500 million on the backs of hard-working Mainers who will have to pay the bill. Shame on them. Hospitals are only concerned with their pocketbooks, and they don’t care about the hardships it will cause for taxpayers, the elderly and the disabled. Hospital CEOs claim the federal government will pay 90 percent of the costs of Medicaid expansion, but it’s not true. The 90 percent only covers a portion of those who would be added to Medicaid rolls: able-bodied adults without children.

Since hospitals are nonprofit organizations, they don’t have to pay taxes on much of their vast real estate holdings. Mainers do not have that luxury—in addition to paying their own high premiums and deductibles, they will have to pay to give ‘free’ healthcare to adults who should be working. As I always say, ‘free’ is very expensive to somebody. If hospital CEOs have their way, that somebody would be Maine taxpayers.”

Bravo to the governor. He understands that Obama Care was a disaster when it comes to Medicaid. Medicaid was designed to support the truly, truly, needy in our society, the poor, the disabled, the elderly, not the non-poor, not the non-disabled, not the non-elderly.

We have given this analogy before: Medicaid is like a 50 year old truck that was designed to haul up to two tons. Obama Care came along and without fixing this old truck, expects it to now haul four tons. It is not going to work and LePage realizes it. He knows that Medicaid costs will skyrocket and the less capable in his state will suffer along with the state’s taxpayers if it is not kept under control. Medicaid now eats up over 30% of the state government budget in four states, he does not want that monster to do the same in his state as a result of Obama Care.

2) The National Review website on October 12, 2017, ran an article entitled, “the Most Wasteful Health Spending is Also the Most Popular.” It was an extensive essay on the current status of health care in this country today but let me just pull out a few relative facts:

  • The author claims that about half of the health care expenditures spent today in this country are wasted expenses: “That half, approximately, of all U.S. health spending is wasted, is simultaneously scientifically uncontroversial, ignored by health-policy experts, and totally absent from public debate. But that’s not the worst part. In fact, it could be good news in a way: The magnitude of the problem suggests that there’s a lot of room for improvement.”
  • The article points out how simpler, more direct ways to save lives and improve healthcare were ignored by the Obama Care advocates: “One of the most celebrated pieces of health-care journalism in recent years has been Atul Gawande’s New Yorker exposé on the Herculean efforts by a handful of scientists to get intensive-care physicians to implement basic hygiene measures so as to stop hospital-borne diseases, which kill about 100,000 people per year according to the CDC. The “checklist” was of no cost to the doctors, and its scientific rationale was unquestionable. Doctors still resisted it with all their might because they found it mildly inconvenient.”
  • And finally, do we need to rethink the reality that a lot of medical and healthcare does not need the expensive use of highly paid doctors: “Countless procedures that doctors have a legal monopoly on could just as well be performed by less skilled experts. This is hugely wasteful, but it only scratches the surface…. In Africa, which suffers from a dire doctor shortage, there are examples of professionally run clinics that deliver a first-world standard of care to hundreds of patients without a single doctor.”

Three simple, effective ways to reduce healthcare costs, and deaths, in this country: eliminate current wasteful spending, have doctors wash their hands, and reexamine where we REALLY need a highly trained doctor for medical care. Three ways that Obama Care never addressed, more concerned with applying an insurance solution to a public health problem.

The disaster that keeps on unfolding. One more summary of disasters tomorrow.

November,2017, Part 1, The Unfolding Disaster That Is Obama Care: Costs Keep Going Up, Up, Up...Despite What Obama Promised

  • Americans smoke too much.

It has caused insurance premiums, deductibles and copays to escalate substantially.

1) Too many times to mention we have reviewed how Obama Care premiums and deductibles have continued to drive upwards over the years despite Obama’s oft repeated promise that an average American family could see up to a $2,5000 reduction in their annual health insurance costs. Joshua Paladino, writing for the Liberty Headlines website on October 27, 2017, reiterated the latest findings on ever increasing Obama Care premiums as this year’s signup process for Obama Care gets underway:
  • A new research study shows that on average the premium costs for the most popular Obama Care plan tier will increase 34% in 2018.
  • The study was conducted by the Avalere Health organization.
  • Their study blamed three factors for the increasing premiums, the fact that Trump eliminated some illegal taxpayer subsidies to insurance companies, his recent executive order to promote choice and competition in health care, and the debate over repealing and replacing Obama Care in Washington.
  • The Alavere people seem to overlook the fact that it is unknown but highly unlikely that the illegal subsidies that Trump cut would have ever filtered down to individual policyholders and if some of that taxpayer largess did filter down it would be relative minor since the main taxpayer subsidies, the legal ones, are still intact.
  • Alavere also seems to forget that Obama promised that Obama Care would increase competition in the health insurance market but when Trump does the same thing Alavere looks on it as a bad thing.
  • And finally, the argument to repeal and replace Obama Care has been going on for years and over those years Obama Care costs continued to skyrocket so blaming the debate in 2017 is silly and wrong.
  • In addition, “a U.S. District Judge in San Francisco said the administration’s stance on withholding the funding had the “stronger legal argument.” Rare is the argument that Democrats, who passed Obamacare without knowing “what’s in it,” failed to fill gaping legal holes such as subsidies that they overlooked.”
  • Conversely, the Heritage Foundation’s research shows that Obama Care’s massive regulation burden is a primary root cause of ever higher costs.
  • According to Alavere, Obama Care bronze plans’ premiums will increase an average of 18% in 2018, the silver plans will go up an average of 34%, the gold plans will go up an average of 16%, and the platinum plans will go up an average of 25%.
  • Average premium costs will go down in only three states, Alaska, Arizona, and North Dakota, small states relative to the overall Obama Care population.
Another day and another set of data that shows unlike what Obama promised, the cost of Obama Care health insurance coverage continues to rise unabated, indicating that it never attacked the root causes of our high health care and insurance in this country.

2) In the course of researching the previous article, I came across another article from the Liberty Headlines website that was put out on May 25, 2017:
  • At that time, the Health and Human Services (HHS) organization had just released a report that showed that on average the insurance premiums for individual health insurance policies doubled in cost under Obama Care.
  • This doubling took place between 2013, the year the law took effect through 2017.
  • The study that reached this conclusion came from the Office of the Assistant Secretary for Planning and Evaluation (ASPE).
  • HHS spokesperson, Alleigh Marre confirmed the findings: “With data that shows average premiums doubling nationwide and Americans paying nearly $3,000 more for health insurance per year, this report is a sobering reminder of why reforming our healthcare system remains a top priority of the Trump Administration. The status quo is unsustainable.”
  • But wasn’t Obama Care supposed to fix this problem, Ms. Marre, with Obama promising that some American families would see up to a $2,500 decrease in annual health insurance policies?
  • According to the research, average individual insurance premiums, the core of Obama Care, doubled from $2,784 a year in 2013 to $5,172 in 2017, a 105% increase.
  • The 39 states that relied on the Federal exchange to purchase health insurance also saw large increases in individual health insurance plans over that time frame.
  • Three states, Alaska, Alabama, and Oklahoma saw premiums triple from 2013 to 2017.
Oh yeah, Obama could not have been further off, or more of a liar, when he promised that annual insurance premiums could down by up to $2,500 a year. Doubling and tripling of premium costs is not a $2,500 reduction.

Premium costs up, deductible costs up, competition levels down, you could not have come up with more of a failure of reforming our healthcare system in this country if you tried.

November, 2017, Part 2, I Am A Global Warming Doubter and A Believer In Science: Jerry Brown's Electric Car Fantasy and Al Gore Vs. A Real Scientist

Every month we have enough material to return to a continuing theme in this blog, namely that “I am a global warming doubter AND a believer in science.” This became of interest because of people like Al Gore who fanatically and verbosely claimed that you had to be an idiot to not believe in manmade global warming. It has been my life belief that anyone that is that loud and that obnoxious is hiding something, that rather than argue facts and reality it is better to beat down and insult anyone who disagrees.

As we have dove into the whole issue of manmade global warming, or its new rebranded title of climate change, we found that Al Gore and people like him were guilty of a number of things:
  • Ignoring science and realities that did not support their opinions and positions.
  • Rather than have an adult conversation about climate, these types of advocates like Gore sank to the level of insulting those who dared look at ALL science by calling them a variety of names including racists, homophobes, terrorists, flat earth believers, and other slanderous names.
  • Continuing to insist that politicians step up their intrusions into our lives with higher taxes, more regulations, and more control of our freedoms and standards of living based on a shaky theory at best.
To see the past posts and the multitude of evidence that we have compiled that showed it is perfectly okay to be a global warming doubter and a believer in science, enter the phrase "global warming doubter” in the search box above or go through the monthly historical posts listed on the right side of this page.

Thus, let’s see the latest facts and science that prove you can be a global warming doubter and a believer in science, regardless of what Al Gore proclaims.

1) In our last post on global warming a few days ago we discussed in amazement how California governor Jerry Brown, a devoted global warming advocate, suggested rather strongly that anyone that did not agree with his view on global warming and climate change needed to be brainwashed until they did believe the myth. Of course, in that same post we discussed the reality that over 400 scientific papers have been published so far in just in 2017 that show global warming to be just that, a myth.

But apparently this overwhelming pile of science and research, which runs counter to his views, did not stop him from doubling down on his insanity. He was recently caught bragging on how his state, under his leadership, continue to pass laws that will somehow reach his ultimate goal of phasing out fossil fuel based cars in California.

Theoretically, at least in his mind, this would fix global warming since all of the states’ cars would no longer emit global warming gases, the California cars would be running on electricity that do not emit those nasty gases. But Twitter users were not fooled by his ignorance since while electric cars do not emit fossil fuel based gases, the fuels need to generate the electricity to operate those cars certainly do:
  • And what will make those vehicles “zero emission”?
  • Because electricity is generated from magic sky fairies
  • Ah, yes, the myth of "zero emissions" vehicles. I guess the electricity those cars run on is generated by millions of hamsters on wheels.
  • EXACTLY! Well, not really but that’s what many on the Left appear to believe.
  • But they're not really zero emissions vehicles.
  • Shh! You’ll ruin Brown and climate change alarmists’ talking points.
  • Fire up those coal plants boys, California is gonna need lots of electricity.
  • Jerry Brown - Still unaware how most electricity in the US is created.
  • Does #JerryBrown know about the massive environmental pollution of manufacturing and disposing of the zero emission car BATTERIES?
  • Zero-emission vehicles...Powered by electricity...Generated by coal power plants...
  • Zero emissions, my ass. Where do you think electricity comes from?
  • Powered by unicorns.
  • This is headed directly toward mandatory emission offsets when consumers refuse to purchase "zero-emission" cars.”
  • They will have to burn a lot of coal to power all those electric cars. They can't keep up now.
  • And that’s from a liberal who’s among those saying Republicans don’t “believe in science”?
  • Geez, Jerry, didn't you go to science class?
Seems there are a lot of smart people out there that understand the whole process of energy consumption in its various forms. Apparently, very few of them work for the California state government.

2) Not only did we cite over 400 research efforts in our last post that debunk the global warming myth, a recent climate scientist just went head to head with the most famous global warming advocate Al Gore, to debunk his notions and reality also. Gore and others have been all excited because of the hurricane activity this past summer which indeed was higher it had been in many, many years. [Note: I find it interesting that there is minimal hurricane activity for many years and the global warming advocates were silent, but one single summer with increased activity and they go nuts.]

But a real scientist, not a fake scientist like Al Gore, tells us that recent hurricane activity is not caused by manmade global warming:
  • Dr. Roy Spencer is a climatologist scientist at the University of Alabama.
  • He is a former NASA senior scientist for climate issues.
  • He currently spends a lot of his current time writing short e-books to prove that manmade global warming did not cause this one year increase in hurricane activity.
  • According to the Washington Times, "Spencer's research and position is that this year’s hurricanes are not “what climate change looks like” and that the storms were not caused by mankind putting more carbon dioxide into the atmosphere: A former NASA senior scientist for climate studies, Mr. Spencer said that having two hurricanes make landfall on the lower 48 within one year isn’t proof of climate change."
  • Dr. Spencer also stated in the article: “There have been many years with multiple Cat 4 hurricanes in the Atlantic, but there is nothing about global warming theory that says more of those will make landfall. While the official estimate is that this was the first time two Cat 4 storms hit the U.S., since Florida was virtually unpopulated before 1900, we probably don’t really know.”
  • In fact, since 2005, no Category 3 or higher hurricane had hit the country, something that global warming advocates find quite uncomfortable relative to their theories and forecast models.
  • One of these theories is that man made global warming will make hurricanes more intense, a theory that Spenser calls ““some sort of pseudo-meteorological gobbledygook.” - “What made Harvey rain totals exceptional was the system stalled next to the coast, which was due to a very temporary weakening of atmospheric steering currents. Virtually the whole month of August was below normal in temperature over most of the U.S., not what global warming theory predicts at all.”
A real scientist vs. Al Gore, who are you going to believe? As a trained statistician, I have a favorite old saying that goes as follows: “Torture the data long enough and it will confess to anything.” Dr. Spencer reaches a similar conclusion relative to global warming advocates: “You can come up with all kinds of hurricane statistics which don’t mean much. Florida was hit by Cat 4 hurricanes four years in a row, in 1947, 1948, 1949, 1950. Then when Andrew hit in 1992, it had been 32 years since a Cat 4 hurricane had hit Florida. It doesn’t mean anything.”

It doesn’t mean anything” should be the theme to the hysteria and non-scientific approach that many global warming advocates take to the Earth’s climate. From Jerry Brown who does not understand that electricity does not magically appear at a wall socket to Al Gore who has always ignored science that does not conform to his pre formed concepts of reality, it is still perfectly sane to be a global warming doubter and a believer in science.

November, 2017, I Am A Global Warming Doubter and A Believer In Science: Record Low Temps Possible, Brainwashing in California, and 400 Reasons NOT to Believe the Global Warming Myth

1) The proper use of science and the scientific method is to look at all possible data and information, look at these sources of information from a wide variety of angles, and then put together a logical hypotheses of reality that encompasses all possible variations and possibilities. The scientist is really a detective, sifting through potential clues, evaluating their merit, and finding an overarching connection between them to form a correct view of reality.

That is unless you live in California. According to the governor of California, if your view of manmade global warming does not agree with his, based on research and scientific reviews that you have come across, than you need to be brainwashed to ignore any piece of science and research that does not support the governor’s view, i.e. manmade global warming is killing the planet. That is apparently how science works in the head of current California governor, Jerry brown.

According to reporting from the Sacramento Bee newspaper, Brown was recently speaking at an event organized by the Vatican’s Pontifical Academy of Sciences when he opined: “The problem … is us. It’s our whole way of life. It’s our comfort … It’s the greed. It’s the indulgence. It’s the pattern. And it’s the inertia….At the highest circles, people still don’t get it,” he said. “It’s not just a light rinse” that’s required. “We need a total, I might say ‘brainwashing. We need to wash our brains out and see a very different kind of world.”

Of course, if you disagree with someone and who does not immediately call for that person to be brainwashed? The hell with science, the hell with reason, the hell with respecting the right of someone to hold a contrary position, let’s just brainwash them. This is the kind of dangerous nonsense that exists within the American political class today.

2) The Rightwise website recently reported on how “Global Warming Advocates Face Record Low Temps,” based on a recent Weather Channel forecast: “This is an important topic of discussion today because just recently the weather channel has informed the public that the country in many parts will be facing below-freezing weather conditions that could break records. The fact that we are getting weather this cold disrupts the global warming argument completely. Arguments for global warming are hard to corroborate when the temperatures are getting this low. The Weather Channel just made the following report, “An arctic blast will slide across parts of the Midwest and Northeast into the weekend,” stated the forecasting service. “Many cities in the Midwest and Northeast will see their coldest temperatures so far this season. Daily record lows could be threatened in some cities.””

"Daily record lows" does not seem like a warming trend.

3) The Tea Party Journal website recently updated some research they had conducted earlier in the year relative to global warming having not risen much at all over the past two decades or so:
  • Earlier in the year, the Journal had identified 58 scientific research papers that were published in early 2017 and which all concluded that global warming, manmade or other, had not increased substantially for a long time.
  • Since that early 2017 count the number of published research papers is now up to 400, all of which cast doubts on the myth of manmade global warming.
  • In general, the hundreds of research papers concluded that: “Modern temperatures, sea levels, and extreme weather events are neither unusual nor unprecedented. Many regions of the Earth are cooler now than they have been for most of the last 10,000 years.”
  • Many of the studies attributed climate change to natural influences including the sun (106 papers), cloud cover variations, oceanic atmospheric oscillations (37 papers), and other sources, concluding that any climate changes due to mankind would be difficult or impossible to even detect.
  • Much of the research also concluded that advocating for renewable energy sources are often expensive, ineffective, and sometimes detrimental to the environment.
  • At the same time, the increase of CO2 in the atmosphere, regardless of its source, has resulted in a greener planet and increased crop yields, helping to reduce famine and starvation.
Wow, 400 scientific efforts and research all concluding that man made global warming is either non-existent or impossible to detect, given the mighty forces of nature that have been driving the Earth's climate for millions of years. Below are some summary of results from some of the research papers:

Li et al., 2017: “It has been widely suggested from both climate modeling and observation data that solar activity plays a key role in driving late Holocene climatic fluctuations by triggering global temperature variability and atmospheric dynamical circulation."

Yndestad and Solheim, 2017: “Periods with few sunspots are associated with low solar activity and cold climate periods. Periods with many sunspots are associated with high solar activity and warm climate periods.”

Tejedor et al., 2017: “The main driver of the large-scale character of the warm and cold episodes may be changes in the solar activity.”

Belolipetsky et al., 2017: “It is well known that most short term global temperature variability is due to the well-defined ENSO natural oscillation (e.g. El Nino, La Nina)”

Park et al., 2017: “According to our results, the central Mexican climate has been predominantly controlled by the combined influence of the 20-year Pacific Decadal Oscillation (PDO) and the 70-year Atlantic Multidecadal Oscillation (AMO).”

Lim et al., 2017: “Our study demonstrated that flood frequency and climate changes at centennial-to-millennial time scales in South Korea have been coupled mainly with ENSO activity.”

Conroy et al., 2017: “20th century precipitation variability in southern Tibet falls within the range of natural variability in the last 4100 yr, and does not show a clear trend of increasing precipitation as projected by models.”

Verdon-Kidd et al., 2017: “Overall, the inter-annual and inter-decadal variability of rainfall and runoff observed in the modern record (Coefficient of Variation (CV) of 22% for rainfall, 42% for runoff) is similar to the variability experienced over the last 500 years (CV of 21% for rainfall and 36% for runoff).”

Viterito, 2017: “This yields a coefficient of determination of .662, indicating that HGFA [high geothermal flux area, i.e. volcanoes] seismicity accounts for roughly two-thirds of the variation in global temperatures since 1979.”

Huhtemaa and Helama, 2017: “[M]ore than half of the agricultural crises in the study region can be associated with cooling caused by volcanism.”

Blaauw, 2017: “This paper demonstrates that global warming can be explained without recourse to the greenhouse theory.”

Munshi, 2017: “…No evidence is found that changes in atmospheric CO2 are related to fossil fuel emissions at an annual time scale.”

Reinhart, 2017: “Our results permit to conclude that CO2 is a very weak greenhouse gas and cannot be accepted as the main driver of climate change.”

Blackall, 2017: “The science publication Nature Climate Change this year published a study demonstrating Earth this century warmed substantially less than computer-generated climate models predict. Unfortunately for public knowledge, such findings don’t appear in the news.”

Rosenblum and Eisenman, 2017: “Observations indicate that the Arctic sea ice cover is rapidly retreating while the Antarctic sea ice cover is steadily expanding. State-of-the-art climate models, by contrast, typically simulate a moderate decrease in both the Arctic and Antarctic sea ice covers.”

Janković and Shultz, 2017: “[A] preindustrial climate may remain a policy goal, but it is unachievable in reality.”

Heard et al., 2017: “While many modelled scenarios have been published claiming to show that a 100% renewable electricity system is achievable, there is no empirical or historical evidence that demonstrates that such systems are in fact feasible.”

Qiao et al., 2017: “BEVs [Battery Electric Vehicles] are designed to obtain more environmental benefits, but the energy consumption and GHG emissions of BEV production are much larger than those of ICEV [Internal Combustion Engine Vehicles] production in China.”

Frick et al., 2017: “Our results suggest that wind energy development may pose a substantial threat to migratory bats in North America.”

The Journal article points out that if you include the 500 papers in 2016 that pooh poohed the manmade global warming theory, then Jerry Brown certainly has a lot of brainwashing to do, given that 900 scientific papers hold a directly opposite point of view.

November, 2017, Political Class Insanity, The Scandal That Is Hillary Clinton, Part 2

It is the beginning of another month which means it is again time to review the latest political class insanity from Washington and around the world. Political class insanity takes many forms including the wasting of taxpayer wealth, criminal fraud within government programs, inane and stupid political quotes and actions, the inability to create and implement effective and efficient government programs, stupid and ill performing economic policies and strategies, and other forms of insanity that continue to evolve and surprise and shock us.

We are going to dedicate a couple of days to the latest insanity that has been coming out regarding the corrupt and unethical behavior of leaders in the Democratic Party, specifically Hillary Clinton, her staff, and their shenanigans.

1) Over the past two posts we have been discussing the insanity that was Hillary Clinton's 2016 Presidential campaign run. A lot of the material we have gone over already and will go over today is driven by statements that former Democratic National Committee chairwoman Donna Brazile has been making in the news lately as she began promoting her book about the 2016 campaign.

Peter Kasperowicz, writing for the Washington Examiner on November 8, 2017, picks up some of the commentary and stories that Brazil has been sharing:

  • Brazile called the Clinton campaign a “cult,” that was impossible to penetrate: “It was a cult. I felt like it was a cult. You could not penetrate them.”
  • As the campaign was coming up to election day, Brazile could not convince Clinton staff to work harder in some states that she knew were vulnerable to a Trump victory but her pleas were ignored.
  • She wanted a stronger reachout effort to voters in specific states, mostly in the mid west, but the Clinton campaign decided not to expend the resources to do so: "I cannot help a candidate... if I don't have the resources, if I cannot spend the resources that the party is raising."
  • The Clinton campaign ultimately dismissed those efforts and her recommendations and lost those states on election day.
  • Not only did the staff not take her advice, told her that they had the situation under control and to basically go away: "It was so condescending."
Hubris, conceit, overconfidence and condescending, thank goodness Hillary lost the election, that is no way to treat other human beings who are trying to help you or to run a country, thinking you know everything.

2) Seth Rich was a young Clinton staffer based in Washington DC that worked on the campaign’s computer systems. Although not proven, there are many people who believe that Rich was the source of the materials that Wikileaks made public in the lead up to the election on the inner workings of the Clinton campaign and how corrupt and unethical it was.

Possibly a coincidence, or possibly not, after Wikileaks started publishing the materials, Seth Rich was murdered on a DC street, a murder that left his wallet, phone, and other valuables intact but which the DC police have so far called a simple mugging gone bad. The conspiracy theory is that he was murdered by the Clintons in an obvious payback for stealing the data and making their corruption public via Wikileaks.

According to a recent article on the Constitution website:

  • After Wikileaks started publishing the stolen emails that were taken from the Democrats’ computers, Brazile says she became more and more paranoid about possible Russian efforts to sway the election.
  • But according to the article: “But even more than the Russians, Brazile says she feared possible retribution from shadowy elements within the campaign and the Democratic Party who might blame her for the leak. Her fears only intensified, she says, after the mysterious shooting of former campaign staffer Seth Rich, who the authorities said was killed during a robbery, though many so-called conspiracy theorists have speculated about a possible Democratic plot to kill Rick for his role in leaking the stash of DNC emails to Wikileaks.”
  • Brazile’s fears got so bad that she eventually feared that she might “disappear” while serving as the interim chair of the Democratic National Committee (DNC).
  • As a result of the Rich murder that she began shutting the blinds in her office to make her a harder target for snipers in addition to installing surveillance cameras in her home.
Scary stuff when even Clinton political allies and friends, remember that Brazile committed the highly unethical act of getting Clinton and advance copy of debate questions when she worked for CNN at the time, start worrying about their own safety relative to the Clintons.

3) Getting away from Brazile’s experiences for a while, let’s talk about former FBI Director James Comey and how we now know that he was definitely in Hillary Clinton's corner when it came to investigating her illegal and unethical use of a computer server outside the guidelines in place for national security protocols.

According to a recent article on the Conservative Zone website:

  • Congressional members and their committees have come across FBI documents that show that Comey was writing up his recommendation to dismiss Clinton’s illegal and unethical use of her email computer server in her home before the investigation his agents were operating was even close to being done.
  • His exoneration of Clinton began back in April or May 2016 which was well before his agents were done with their investigation.
  • Not only was he already working on the exoneration speech but he callously circulated the drafts of the exoneration among high ranking FBI officials, again, long before the agents’ work was done.
  • At this time, the FBI had not even interviewed Clinton herself never mind 16 other key witnesses and high ranking officials on her campaign staff.
  • Many of these witnesses to be questioned actually had direct experience with building and using the non-government computer server.
  • Comey was part of a conspiracy involving Obama, the Justice Department and Clinton to make it look like Clinton had made an unintentional mistake by using her own computer server and exposing national secrets to foreign hackers, that it was a simple mistake, she had not intended to expose the national secrets or intended to harm the nation via this rogue computer server.
  • However, as the article points out that the laws governing such misuse of government secrets and documents does not differentiate between intent and accidents, in either case the law says such behavior is illegal, i.e. ignorance of the law is no excuse.
  • According to the article, this strategy laid out by the White House and Clinton which culminated on July 5, 2016 when, “Comey had a news conference in which he stated that Secretary Clinton was “extremely careless” in handling classified information through a private email server, but that she had not intentions of endangering national security. Again, the criminal statute relevant to her email scandal does not require intent.”
  • Since Obama and Clinton had communicated national security issues and secrets over the rogue computer server, prosecuting Clinton would have also meant possibly prosecuting Obama since he was aware how they were communicating and how illegal it was.
Thus, the fix was in since Obama would never had allowed the Justice Department to prosecute Clinton and expose Obama, and Conmey became the stooge that made sure nothing happened.

Unbelievable corruption at the highest levels of the Federal government. Total lack of integrity and hypocrisy to the highest degree, i.e. laws do not apply to us, the political elite of the country. Again, thank goodness this travesty of justice did not get elected to the Presidency, the corruption that would have ensued would have been unimaginable.
