The Monumental Costs of The Failed War In Afghanistan - Why Term Limits Are Needed More Than Ever

The following words were recently posted on the Facebook page, "How Much Worse Could it Get? Term Limits Now:"

 ***************

Brown University just reported on their analysis of the twenty year war in Afghanistan. According to their analysis, the American taxpayer has already paid well over $2 TRILLION for this military excursion, a military operation that has killed over 2,000 American service personnel, maimed thousands more, and resulted in the deaths of over 240,000 people.

Of the current 100 members of the Senate, 16 Senators were in office when the 9-11 terrorist attack happened, the justification for invading Afghanistan. Another 23 Senators have been in office for at least ten years. Thus, almost 40% of the Senate is responsible for the fiasco that is Afghanistan. Also, Nancy Pelosi has been in office since the military operation started and Joe Biden has been in office since before the 9-11 attacks.

Without term limits, we get the same failures and inabilities to do anything right for decades from the same failing politicians at a tremendous cost of lives, wealth, and national energy. I cannot imagine Afghanistan could have ended any worse if we had replaced career and failed politicians in Congress with term limits years and years ago.

*******************

The massive and costly failure of twenty years in Afghanistan. Social Security and Medicare heading for bankruptcy. National debt and unfunded future liabilities that are well over $100 trillion dollars. A crumbling national infrastructure. Public schools that severely under educate our kids at a premium cost. The list of failures goes on and on.

The one constant through all of these failures has been the long term members of Congress and the American political class that never, ever get anything done cost effectively, efficiently, or correctly. Once in office, American politicians only care about their own greed, self enrichment and next election. In the meantime, they waste trillions and trillions of tax dollars on failed efforts that leave American taxpayers much worse off than if they had done nothing.

The time for term limits is now. Think about it: how much worse could it have been in Afghanistan, and other government efforts, if we had replaced the Pelosi's, Bidens, Schumers, McConnells, et al long ago? I do not think that anyone could have screwed up more than the long term politicians that have been in Washington for decades.
