July, 2025, Part 12,, Political Class Insanity: Two Surprising Political Successes and a Typical Political Failure

There is a lot going on in the world: Obama and Russiagate findings, Middle East powder keg, the Russian/Ukrainian war, etc. But through all this, the American political class continues to  constantly deliver its own special brand of insanity, stupidity, wasteful taxpayer spending, and ineffective government programs:

1)Over the years, the  overwhelming theme of this blog has been how baldy American politicians screw everything up. They waste taxpayer wealth, they corrupt themselves via self enrichment while in office, they fail to protect the lives and property  of the citizens they serve, and generally never accomplish anything worthwhile or valuable in a cost efficient mode.

However, the first two items of discussion today are actually  good news in that FINALLY some politicians have gotten  things right.

Let’s start at the Federal government level:

  • We have often  discussed the reality that the immigration policies of the Biden administration were a total disaster.

  • He allowed millions of illegal immigrants to walk  into the country, an immigrant wave that included drug cartel folks, criminal gang members, pedophiles, and every day criminals.

  • Maybe the most disgusting part of his immigration failures was the reality that his administration lost track of over 300,000 illegal immigrant kids, their whereabouts unknown, as reported by the Department of  Homeland Security..

  • While many of them hopefully ended up with their families, we know that many of them likely were sex trafficked or forced into labor situations that no kid should have to endure.

  • Now here’s the good news: in  the first seven months of the Trump Presidency, the Federal  government has located and rescued  over 13,000 of those illegal  immigrant  kids that Biden lost track  of.

  • Additional good news is that Trump’s people have arrested over 400 people that were supposed to be  legitimate sponsors of those kids but who allegedly turned  out to be sexual predators or criminals.

Finally, a good news story out of Washington. Let’s  hope that the effort continues to find these lost kids and get them out of danger, the danger that Biden’s ineptness caused them to be in.

2)And the second good news is on the local government level, specifically Baltimore:

  • Baltimore developed a well deserved reputation over the years as being a very dangerous place to be, with some of the highest crime and homicide rates in the country.

  • Apparently, a George Soros supported state attorney, Marilyn  Mosby, was not doing a good enough job of cracking down on  the criminality in the city.

  • Homicides in  the city went from 229 per year the year before she came into office to an  average of 333 per year during her eight year tenure, an almost 50% increase.

  • In mid-2022, she was defeated in a primary election by Ivan Bates who promised to  crack down on the city’s criminals.

  • In 2022, her last year in power, Baltimore experienced 334 homicides but in just one year after she left, Bates got the homicide totals in the city in  2023 down to 262.

  • In 2024, the number of homicides  dropped to 202, an almost 40% reduction from 2022.

  • In the first half  of 2025, there have been only 68 homicides, a 62% reduction  over the same period  in  2022.

  • Auto thefts, arson, robberies, and other crimes have  also seen great reductions in occurrences.

  • According to Sean Kennedy, a member of the Maryland Public Policy Institute: "The numbers don't lie. Ivan Bates's strategy of targeting the most violent or violence-prone offenders is the primary driver of Baltimore's miraculous success. Homicides only started dropping when Bates came in and signaled that carrying guns meant prison."

  • The fact that Moseby liked to  travel while in office and while the city was in  the  throes of high crime, taking 23 out of town  trips in  just 2018 and 2019 and  visiting such places as Germany and Portugal, shows a very bad set of priorities.

A very, very basic premise of any government  entity is to protect the  lives and  property of the citizens it serves. Mosby failed miserably, Bates is succeeding wonderfully. Maybe cities like Chicago and LA should give Mr. Bates a call,, given the crime infested situation in  those cities.

3)Let’s move from some welcomed good news about government doing something right to the same old tired story line of  politicians screwing up, this  time up in Massachusetts:

  • Maura Heley is the  governor of Massachusetts.

  • She has welcomed illegal immigrants into her state with  open arms and used state taxpayer money to  provide free food, free shelter, free medical care, and  lord knows what other services to them while many of her state residents have gone hungry, homeless, and in need of medical and  drug addiction care.

  • According to recent news reports,  the state government of Massachusetts has already spent $897.5 million this year on emergency family shelter programs, mostly for illegal  immigrants, and the year is not over yet.

  • The expected total year cost for emergency shelter expenses could reach a whopping $970 million.

  • The program was originally designed to help state resident families find emergency shelter but has quickly evolved to a sheltering program and expense for illegal immigrants.

  • Even worse, from a corruption  and  ineptness perspective, the cost to shelter a family via this program is on average about $3,823 per WEEK.

  • A  lot of these “shelters” are  hotel rooms that the state government rents out for illegal immigrants and any and all wear, tear, and vandalism that occurs under the hotel’s contract with the state is paid for by state taxpayers.

  • And while Healey is funneling almost a billion dollars this year to support illegal immigrants needs, the state budget to provide legal aid  to poorer state residents in criminal matters is short of money, all of which caused court appointed lawyers to initiate a work  stoppage because of the underfunding.

  • As a result, 1,400 poorer state residents have not had  legal representation since Memorial Day.

  • Paul Craney of the Massachusetts Fiscal Alliance put it all  in perspective: "If you don’t think the average working Massachusetts family could use that kind of money each week after working hard and paying their taxes their whole lives, as opposed to just arriving here, you’re an elitist."

  • When the  illegal  immigrant crisis erupted during the Biden administration, the state of Massachusetts  had set up 130 hotels across the state as shelters to service 7,500 illegal immigrant families \which totaled over 23,000 people that were not citizens of the country and had broken the laws of this country.

  • When this year is over, the state would have spent over $1.79 billion to house and  help illegal immigrants in  total  in 2024 and 2025.

  • That is $1.79 billion that could not be used to fix roads, hire more teachers, provide tax relief to taxpayers, etc.

As is the case with many liberal  politicians these days, the  welfare and safety of illegal  immigrants takes  precedence over the welfare, safety, and tax dollars that support the government that ignores them.

Okay, enough for today, not a bad day: two good news stories of politicians actually doing their jobs offset by an American politician failing miserably to support and respect her taxpayers.
