Bad DEI Budget Priorities By Mamdani Move NYC Closer To Bankruptcy Court

Our previous post made the case that the new mayor of New York City, Zohran Mamadani, and his actions and priorities were helping New York City maintain its lead in the race to bankruptcy court. That post can be accessed at the following link:

Before updating his priorities and plans, let’s review how a city or state goes bankrupt:

A government entity keeps expanding its budget, eventually putting pressure on the tax revenue stream it receives.
At some point, rather than cut government spending or make its programs more efficient financially, the politicians in charge raise taxes to meet the ever growing government expenditures.
The raising of taxes causes some residents and businesses to leave the city or state for less tax burdensome areas, reducing the tax base and reducing the revenue stream.
Rather than cut expenses and become more efficient to match the reduced tax revenue stream, politicians in the above cities or states raise the tax burden even more.
This causes more residents and businesses to flee the city or state, further reducing the tax base and tax revenue stream.
At some point politicians panic and raise taxes more and start cutting vital government services (e.g. police, fire, education) in order to try and balance government spending against the shrinking tax base and revenue stream.
The reduction in quality of government services in particular and quality of life in general drives more residents and businesses out of the area.
Eventually, the expenses, costs and financial liabilities outstrip the reduced tax stream and bankruptcy occurs.

And let’s also review some of the campaign promises Mamdani made during the

mayoral campaign:

Bus rides on city buses were going to be free.
Daycare for kids in the city was going to be free.
Tuition at the City College of New York was going to be free.
City run grocery stores would be non-profit.
Rent freeze for 1,000,000 city rent stabilized apartments.

But in recent negotiation disclosures we found out that:

The city faces a $5.4 billion deficit in next year’s budget plans.
Unless the state legislature raises taxes on millionaires living in the city, Mamdani said he will raise property taxes on all properties in the city by more than 9%, he will raid the city’s rainy day fund, and he will raid the city’s employee benefit programs.
Recall that he campaigned on the promise that only rich people in the city would see their tax burden increase but now millions of residents and businesses will see their property taxes likely rise.

Given the budget situation, it is probably a good bet that all of the “free” stuff Mamdani promised the city residents is not going to happen anytime soon, not with a $5.4 billion budget shortfall. As an added insult, he also cancelled a plan to hire 5,000 more city police officers to combat crime.

And yet, in the face of no freebies, possibly more taxes for non-wealthy residents, and less police protection, Mamadani had the following ridiculous, useless programs planned for his first budget:

He plans to

Allocate over $10,000,000 for “racial equity” and diversity (DEI) programs and city payroll positions.
He wants to spend $10.2 million on the office of Racial Equity ($5.6 million) and the Commission on Racial Equity ($4.6 million).
This is a whopping 42% increase over the previous budget.
Mamdani plans over $835,000 for the Commission on Gender Equity.
Over $260,000 for a chief diversity officer at the Department of Education.
$649,000 for diversity leadership positions in the city fire department.
$6.6 million for the city’s “Climate Office.”
$19.7 million for climate and environmental justice.
$11.6 million for illegal immigrant services.
Over $118,000 for the fire department’s “chief diversity inclusion officer.”

Unbelievable. The city cannot execute basic services like garbage and snow removal, he is not going to fill 5,000 needed police officer positions, his campaign promises cannot be fulfilled because of a multi-billion revenue shortfall and he is going to go forward with funding the above positions that do nothing to help city residents and businesses.

The “Climate Office” is not going to get shelter for those freezing to death on the city streets. The “chief diversity inclusion officer” is not going to clear the mountains of uncollected garbage piled up in the city streets. “Environmental Justice” is not going to feed the hungry/food challenged households. The “Commission on Gender Equity” is not going to provide free bus rides and free day care.

Yes, New York City is still the leader in the race to bankruptcy court and Mamdani’s poor priorities, spending money on DEI programs the city cannot afford, are an insult to those city residents and businesses that are in need.

The Overwhelming Evidence That Biden Was the Worst President In At Least The Past 100 Years

Many, many times we have discussed the multitude of failures that the Biden Presidency imposed on the country. Failed immigration policies, failed diplomatic efforts, ever rising crime rates, inflation levels not seen in decades, abuse of the Bill of Rights and the Constitution (“lawfare”) as it related to those opposing Biden’s programs, and the reality that Biden was a man in significant cognitive decline.

Recently we came across a list of specific Biden failures that span across the broad failure categories in the above paragraph. The list,which we added to and modified, was long and disgusting, making Biden the likely worst President in the past century:

He allowed millions and millions of unvetted and criminal illegal immigrants to enter the country, resulting in increased drug and sex trafficking, increased foreign gang violence in our cities, and the diversion of taxpayer wealth to pay for free food, free shelter, free medical care, and free cell phone service for millions of illegal immigrants.
His administration lost track of over 300,000 illegal immigrant kids with many of them likely forced into sex trafficking gangs or work sweatshops, if they are even still alive.
Thousands of Americans were murdered, raped, robbed, or beaten by illegal immigrants that entered the country during his term, violence and death that would have not occurred if he had followed current immigration laws and secured the border.
His failure to secure the border resulted in record amounts of illegal drug tonnage to enter the country, killing and poisoning thousands of Americans while making the foreign drug cartels even more wealthy and more powerful.
His failure to secure the border likely resulted in the unnecessary deaths of many many illegal immigrants due to natural and cartel/gang violence as they tried to get to the border.
His total fiasco of a plan to withdraw American armed forces from Afghanistan left behind billions of dollars of military equipment which has made the Taliban one of the most powerful military forces in the world.
His failed withdrawal from Afghanistan resulted in the unnecessary and preventable death of 13 U.S. soldiers.
Furthermore, he dishonored their deaths multiple times, first when their bodies were returned to the country, an event that Biden disrespected by showing total disinterest, constantly checking his watch as the bodies were unloaded, and years later when he refused to personally attend or to send a representative to a memorial service for the slain soldiers.
He allowed his son to leverage the Biden Presidency for his family’s financial benefit and then directed the FBI to ignore the damning evidence of crime and corruption that resided on his son’s computer.
He forced tens of millions of Americans to take an untested and often fatal vaccine that was supposed to prevent the spread of the Covid virus.
Total food inflation spiked over 20% during his term, resulting in food availability crises for millions of American families, and at one point, overall annual inflation was running at 40 year highs.
Gas prices and mortgage rates exploded during his time in office, straining the budgets of the lower and middle classes in the country.
He sent untold billions of taxpayer dollars to Ukraine, one of the most corrupt political classes and governments in the world, with no accountability and no audit tracking of where and how those funds were spent.
He did not even try to end the Russian/Ukrainian war, allowing thousands of soldiers and civilians on both sides to be killed as the war raged.
When a massive chemical spill in East Palestine, Ohio endangered the lives of thousands of local citizens, Biden did not even visit the disaster scene, preferring to travel half way around the world to Ukraine, a visit that accomplished nothing.
He allowed DEI programs to proliferate across Federal government agencies and organizations, resulting in reverse discrimination against white job candidates and resulting in sub-optimal hiring appointments for government positions.
While he gave Ukraine billions and billions of dollars, he allocated only $700 per Hawaiian citizen after the devastating Maui fires.
The homeless population of American citizens exploded under Biden while millions of illegal immigrants were given free shelter opportunities.
He allowed the Department of Justice and other government agencies to violate the First and Second Amendments of the Constitution by harassing, arresting, and suing those Americans that had different policy opinions than him including Catholics, pro choice advocates, conservatives, Second Amendment supporters, and other political opponents.
He did nothing to leverage Federal government resources to help bring rampaging crime and violence under control in mostly Democratic controlled cities.
He abused the Constitutional power of issuing pardons when he allowed staff to use the autopen process to grant thousands of Presidential pardons, pardons that Biden knew of, reviewed, or approved.
After promising to not give a Presidential pardon to his criminal son, he reversed course and pardoned his son, one of the few pardons that he actually signed himself.
He deployed no effective programs to reduce the 100,000+ deaths that Americans suffer from drug overdoses, while at the same time silently watching illegal immigrants get free medical care.
He encouraged efforts to allow men to compete in women’s sports and boys to compete in girls’ sports and allowing men and boys to use women and girl locker rooms and restrooms in sports arenas and schools.
When a Chinese military balloon floated across the ocean and into U.S. airspace, he did nothing, allowing the balloon to cruise across the entire country, spying and taking spy photos as it went.
He said nothing when 50 intelligence professionals falsely claimed that the Hunter Biden laptop affair was Russian propaganda, knowing that not to be a true statement.
When the terrorist group Hamas kidnapped Americans after the October 7th attack on Israel, Biden accomplished nothing relative to their safe return.
He ran up record Federal government budget deficits, exploding the national debt by almost $8,000,000,000,000.
He allowed billions of dollars to flow overseas and into NGO bank accounts, NGOs that likely supported his political career, with those dollars being spent on such nonsense as a $20 million program to put on a Sesame Street play on in Iraq, $6 million to support LGBT efforts in the Balkans, millions to be spent on sex transition surgeries in different countries, etc. under the USAID program.
His program to provide a multitude of electric vehicles for Post Office use across the country failed miserably.
His program to bring low cost Internet access to rural areas across the country failed miserably.
His support of the Inflation Reduction Act did nothing to reduce inflation but ballooned the national debt.
He contributed to the political divisiveness across the country with the most egregious example being when he insulted tens of millions of Trump supporters by calling them “garbage.”
He did nothing to tamp down the violent and disgusting political rhetoric that continues to divide the country.
Like every other president, he failed to establish financially sound spending and taxation programs to protect Social Security and Medicare from falling into insolvency.
He did nothing to clean up the fraud, inefficiencies, and wasting of taxpayer funds in their Social Security, Medicare, and Medicaid Federal programs.
He continued his history of racist comments while President, saying that if blacks did not vote for him they weren’t black, referring to LL Cool J as “boy,” calling a Master tournament winner a “Japanese boy,” etc.

A very impressive array of failures, an incredible list of incompetence that solidified his position as the worst President in at least a century.
