December, 2023, Part 3, Political Class Insanity: A Sure To Fail Anti-fentanyl Plan, NYC's Doomed Congestion Tax, Inflation Still Hurts, and More

Every month we devote posts to just general political class insanity that is running rampant through the country. The members of the American political class continue to show that they are incapable of operating any level of government in this country.

Even their best efforts are almost always inefficient and ineffective at resolving any problem facing Americans. They spend a great amount of time not trying to improve the lives of their citizens but continually ensuring their reelection and enriching themselves, their families, and their friends in the process, all at taxpayer expense.

1)We often discussed the drug addiction plague in this country, a plague that kills well over 100,000 Americans every year, We have  also often discussed the reality that this annual fatality rate is likely going to skyrocket as a result of Biden’s porous border policies that has allowed tons and tons of illegal  drugs, especially fentanyl, to flood into this country.

But rather than take the first, immediate step to save lives, and secure the border, the Biden administration has ignored this simple, immediate fix for a nebulous, longer term, likely to fail other route:

  • The Department of Treasury has created a task force to combat the fentanyl epidemic.

  • A first move of the task force is to send Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen to Mexico, the source of the majority of illegal  drugs entering the country.

  • Theoretically, the Treasury task force will work with law enforcement and governments around the world to try and cut off the funding and financial backing of those that create and then ship the illegal drugs to the U.S.

  • While in Mexico, Yellen is scheduled to meet with Mexican government officials and people in the private sector about this problem.

While this may have a long term benefit to disrupting the flow of illegal drugs into the country, I doubt it will have any kind of substantial impact for a number of reasons:

  • Mexico cannot control the Mexican drug cartels now, what makes anyone think that Yellen’s visit and a “task force” is going to change that well entrenched corruption in Mexico?

  • The Mexican government system is a dumpster fire with corruption as a result of the drug cartels and kickbacks, what makes one think that those in power in Mexico are going to clean up their corruption act for Yellen?

  • Throughout all of history, if there is a demand for drugs, someone,  somehow will fill that demand, the long term need is to eliminate the demand, not go over financial records.

The need to help stem the overdose epidemic is to act now and fix the border disaster that Biden has created. That would make the importation of illegal drugs more expensive and dangerous for the cartels and more expensive for users, which is a good thing to do to reduce usage.

2)A while ago we discussed the fallacy of continuing to raise taxes in the hope of getting more government tax revenue:

  • The Wall Street reported a number of years ago that the state government of Maryland raised the income tax rate for millionaires in the state.

  • The higher tax rate would kick in on every dollar over a million dollars a state resident had in income.

  • Seemed like a good idea: raise taxes on the rich to feed the ever rising cost of government, what could go wrong?

  • However, within a very short time frame it turned out that the state government was getting less tax revenue from state millionaires than before the tax rate hike.

  • The reason for lower tax revenue despite higher tax rates, is that millionaires simply moved out of the state, taking their millions of dollars in taxable income with them.

Raise taxes high enough and people will intensify ways to avoid paying higher taxes even if it means moving to a new state. And I  think New York City is going to learn this lesson on a new tax they're going to  implement:

  • Businesses and residents are already fleeing New York city because of high rates, high crime rates, and lowering the quality of life.

  • And now the state is proposing that a tax be  levied on every car that dares to drive into the city from other states, mainly New Jersey.

  • It is called a “congestion tax” and is meant to discourage people from driving their cars into the city.

  • And it will  not be cheap: it will  cost $15 a day to drive into the city, $75 over a five day work \week.

  • The tax on trucks will be higher, $24 to $36 a day, and do not think you can get in for free on a motorcycle, that will cost $7.50

  • Taxis and ride share services will  also get hit.

  • But the $15 is only good for car owners who purchase an E-Z Pass subscription, without E-Z Pass the cost goes up 50% to $22.50

  • The fee could go up 25% on so-called Gridlock Alert Days.

This has Maryland’s millionaire tax disaster written all over it. At some point, workers and businesses are going to say enough is enough. Workers will insist they be able to work at home more often to escape the congestion tax. This will reduce visits to the city and hurt restaurants, stores, and other businesses that depend on commuters. Visitors at some point take fewer trips for entertainment into the city since it costs so much, in addition to the existing tolls, to get into the city, further hurting business.

Fewer workers, fewer entertainment visitors all equal a shrinking tax base and less tax revenue, rather than more. Rather than become more efficient in the services that government provides, NYC politicians are going the typical route of failed leadership: more taxation, a strategy that rarely gets the additional tax revenue that is expected. And in the case of Maryland, raising tax rates actually REDUCED tax revenue.

3)We have recently discussed at length the failure of Biden’s economic policies and how the cost of just about everything has gone up significantly under his watch. This has put incredible financial strain on millions of American households, be it increases in food, gas, or utility prices.

And as an update, the latest inflation numbers are still out of control: inflation for the month of November was up 3.2% over the same period last year, or about 60% higher than the Federal Reserve would like it to be.

And Americans are worried. According to a recent Fox News poll, only 29% of Americans believe the worst of the economic downturn is over. 67% do not see any signs of economic recovery.

4)Dan Goldman is a New York Congressman. Consider a few realities of his life:

  • He is an heir to the Levi Strauss fortune.

  • It is estimated that he is worth $253,000,000.

  • And yet he is being sued by the landlords of his New York City home, claiming that the Congressman  owes them $360,00 to cover the remaining months on the lease.

  • The Congressman pays $45,000 a month in rent.

  • $45,000 a month gets one a 3,818 square foot, five bedroom apartment in the city.

  • The Congressman denies he is in arrears on the rent.

The first question to ask is that if he behind in  his rent payments, is this another case of politician ignorance of “do as I say, not as I do,” i.e. I am an elite person and regular rules do not apply to me.

The more subtle and important question is why are the American taxpayers paying him about $200,000 a year in salary and benefits when he is worth $253 million? Step number 41 in our book , “Love My Country, Loathe My Government” proposed that anyone serving in Congress who has a net worth of over $3 million would not receive a salary while serving in Congress.

The country is $33 trillion in debt, it would be a really great symbolic gesture if the ultra rich members of Congress would forgo their salaries for the sake of fiscal responsibility. They should be  serving their country, not getting a salary and perks that they could certainly live without. Very few Americans never live in a 3,818 soiree foot house. Very few Americans are not worth $253 million. Just another example of the greed of today’s American politicians.

Enough insanity for today: ultra rich Congressman is not rich enough, inflation is still pressuring non-members of Congress, New York City’s tax fallacy, and a  sure to fail anti-fentanyl government boondoggle.

December, 2016, Part 1, Political Class Insanity: Congressional Criminality, Congressional Idiocy, and More

It has been almost a month since Donald Trump has been elected which means at some point in the future we may run out of material to talk about. With the demise of the Obama administration, eight years worth of wasteful and excessive spending for nothing in return, foreign affairs blunders, Obama Care disasters, and assorted other administration and government blunders and screwups might end with the onset of a new administration. Trump may usher in a new paradigm of government actions that are limited, effective, cost efficient, and protective of the Constitution. If so, then this blog would run out of material to discuss and would have to be shut down.

But I doubt it. Even if Trump is truly a different type of President, he is still fighting over 500 embedded and entrenched politicians in Congress and thousands and thousands of government bureaucrats who will not go peacefully into the night for the good of the country. I wish him well and hopefully he can fix at least some of the myriad of problems the American political class creates everyday but until then, enjoy the latest political class insanity from Washington and beyond:

1) Over its almost eight years, the Obama administration has probably spent about half a TRILLION dollars on our national defense. This comes out to about a per household cost of over $4,300 for every American household in the country. So, according to the Heritage Foundation’s recently published annual analysis, “The 2017 Index of U.S. Military Strength, “ what did each American household get for its $4,300:
  • Only 43% of the Marine Corps' aircraft are considered usable.
  • Back in 1992, the Air Force was acquiring about 200 aircraft a year on average while in the past few years that number is about 25.
  • The Air Force is short of 700 pilots and 4,000 maintenance personnel.
  • In 2017 the Navy will likely be able to fulfill only 56% of its needs for aircraft carriers
  • “The Army currently is having to choose between being ready to defend the country today and defend it in the future.”
  • And things are not trending favorably with the Heritage Foundation asserting that their “threat score,” which attempts to gauge our enemies’ threat to our country, was raised from “Elevated” in 2016 to “high” for 2017.
Nice going Washington, half a TRILLION dollars and you have still somehow managed to turn our armed forces into a ragtag, under equipped, vulnerable set of defenses.

2) Often over the years we have discussed the reality that very often outright criminals end up in Congress. Remember when:
  • Congressman Randy Cunningham of California received a sentence of eight years for taking $2.4 million in bribes from defense contractors.
  • Congressman Bob Ney of Ohio received two and a half years in jail for taking bribes from a lobbyist.
  • Congressman James Traficant of Ohio received a seven year sentence for bribery and racketeering.
  • Congressman William Jefferson was sentenced to thirteen years in jail for accepting bribes, the longest term ever imposed on a Congressman on bribery charges. He was the guy who hid his stolen loot in a freezer.
This is just a small example of the corruption we have covered over the years. And now, thanks to the Reboot Illinois website, we have news of another Washington politician that has potentially gotten caught in his life of crime:
  • A Federal grand jury recently indicted former Congressman Aaron Schock on two dozen criminal counts.
  • The charges include fraud, theft of government funds, filing false tax returns, and making false statements.
  • The indictments charge that Schock “engaged in a scheme to defraud the government, his campaign committees, and others for his direct personal benefit and for the benefit of others.”
  • Not only has he been criminally indicted but he may have no one to blame but himself since according to the Reboot Illinois, “The Peoria congressman, who was considered a rising star in the Republican Party, came under media scrutiny after photos posted to his Instagram account depicted a lavish lifestyle, including exotic trips taken by way of donors’ private jets and most notably his “Downton Abbey”-style office makeover on Capitol Hill.”
  • The details of the indictment include nine counts of wire fraud, five counts of falsifying Federal Election Commission filings, one count of mail fraud, one count of theft of government funds, two counts of making false statements and six counts of filing false federal income tax returns.
  • If found guilty on all charges the ex-Congressman could be facing 78 years in prison.
Of course, he is presumed innocent until proven guilty. But these are serious charges and a lot of them and a crooked Congressman is not out of the realm of possibility. But despite the seriousness of these many charges, the ex-Congressman seems to still be in denial by claiming he did nothing wrong and these were just “honest mistakes,” honest mistakes he did at least 24 times.

3) Politicians’ quotes are always a source of humor and sadness at the same time. Humor because their comments are so funny and out of touch with reality and sad because it is these types of people that vote on laws that affect all of us.

Someone named Phoenix, writing for the US Chronicle website, pointed out a classic politician’s inane view of the world. Congresswoman Carolyn McCarthy, while advocating for a total assault weapons government ban, suggested that the ultimate solution to prevent mass shootings from happening is to simply take guns, with large magazines, off of the shelves of stores that sell guns: “If they’re not in the stores, they can’t be bought.”

My gosh, why didn’t we think of that before? Just take the guns and related materials out of stores and no one could get them, so simple. This same approach worked so well when we made it illegal to sell heroin in stores. Oh, wait, we are in the midst of a heroin epidemic in this country that is killing thousands of Americans every year despite heroin not being available in stores.

This same approach worked so well when we made it illegal to sell illegal methamphetamines in stores. Oh, wait, we are in the the midst of a meth epidemic across the country that is killing thousands of Americans every year despite meth not being available in stores.

How out of touch with reality is this politician? Numerous studies have shown that very few criminals walk into a store, get a background check done on themselves, buy a gun, and then go out and commit a crime with that gun. They get guns on the black market, from friends, ones they steal from other people, etc. If there is a demand for something, be it a loaf of bread, a can of beer, heroin, meth, or guns, someone will fill that demand and quite often the fulfillers will be criminal elements.

To think that not allowing guns to be sold in stores will make guns unavailable in society is a lunatic that knows nothing about the real world. And these types of people write and vote on the laws of our land, scary, very scary.

4) One last piece of insanity for today. You really cannot talk about the American political class without talking about the main stream media. One of the tragedies of the 2016 Presidential election, besides the fact that we were forced to choose from two of the most unfavorable candidates ever presented by the two major parties, is the fact that news and journalism disciplines in this country took a beating for being so biased and skewed in their writing and coverage.

How biased and horrific was their reporting in the minds of Americans? Consider the results of a recent YouGov opinion poll that was conducted on November 9th and 10th after the election:
  • Almost 7 in 10 (69%) voters do not believe the news media are honest and truthful.
  • Almost 8 in 10 (78%) of voters believe the news coverage of the presidential campaign was biased, with nearly a 3-to-1 majority believing the media were for Clinton (59%) vs. for Trump (21%).
  • Even 32% of Clinton voters believe the media were “pro-Clinton.”
  • 8% of Trump voters said they would have voted for Clinton if they had believed what the media were saying about Trump.
  • The good news, if there is any, is that 97% of voters said they did not let the media’s bias influence their vote.
Democracy is in very bad shape when no one trusts anyone be it politicians or journalists. Democracy relies on truth and actual facts in order to make accurate decisions and when the availability of actual facts is filtered by inept politicians and their campaign staffs and biased and unprofessional journalists, a country is in serious trouble.

First day of this month’s political class insanity and we are off to a good start: another potentially crooked, criminal member of Congress, another inane and idiotic take on gun control and reality by another member of Congress, an overfunded but under prepared military and no one trusts politicians or the media anymore. More insanity tomorrow.

November, 2016, Bonus Post The Unfolding Disaster That Is Obama Care: Real Americans Going Through Realk Suffering As A Result Of The Law

Every month for years now we have had to discuss how bad Obama Care is turning out to be under the continuing theme, “the unfolding disaster that is Obama Care.” This month is no different. As the legislation continues to march through America, driving up health care and health insurance prices as it serves as dead weight on economic growth, it cements its rightful place as the worst piece of legislation Washington has ever produced.

It never had a chance to be successful since it really never addressed the underlying root causes of our ever increasing health costs in the country:

  • Americans eat too much of the wrong kind of food, resulting in obscenely high obesity rates for the country.
  • Our food chain is infested with overdoses of high fructose corn syrup, salt, and other unhealthy additives.
  • Americans smoke too much.
  • Americans do not exercise enough.
  • The country is in serious need of health care tort reform.
  • Barriers to insurance company competition across state lines need to come down.
  • Obama Care never “followed the money” to find out who is actually profiting from the ever escalating healthcare costs in this country and how to get those factors under control.
  • Obama Care never got the immense amount of fraud and abuse in current government healthcare programs, Medicare and Medicaid, under control in order to save money to efficiently fund other government health care initiatives.
  • Obama Care never put serious research money towards curing the major diseases that drive high healthcare costs such as high frequency cancers and dementia type diseases.
You cannot resolve any problem unless you understand and address the underlying root causes. No difference here: Obama Care legislation never addressed these listed root causes and thus, has no chance of ever being successful.

But it is not just missing the root causes of our healthcare costs that makes Obama Care so horrible. It resulted in millions of Americans losing access to their favored doctors, hospitals, and insurance policies. It has caused insurance premiums, deductibles and co-pays to escalate substantially. It will likely add trillions of dollars to the national debt. It has exposed millions of Americans to higher than necessary identity theft chances. It has created government bureaucracies that are wastefully spending taxpayer wealth and being exploited by criminal elements. It has stifled economic growth and job creation.

These are just a sample of the types of idiocy that we have been reviewing for the past several years in this blog relative to Obama Care., To read those past posts, just enter the phrase, “the unfolding disaster,” in the search box above.

This week we will be reviewing the latest unfolding disasters from the worst piece of legislation ever written by Washington:

1) We have spent the last week reviewing how badly 2017 is shaping up for Obama Care:

  • Less competition as insurers flee the Obama Care health insurance market due to how unprofitable those policies are.
  • Premiums going up across the country, often by astronomical amounts.
  • Deductibles going up radically causing many to lament that the good news is that they now have health insurance but the bad news is they cannot afford to use it since the deductibles are too high.
  • The choice of doctor and hospital networks is getting smaller and smaller of Obama Care insurance customers.
  • Far fewer younger and healthier Americans did not sign up for health insurance as expected, preferring to pay the penalty, robbing insurance companies of the funds they needed to service their older and less healthy customers.
  • The number of of people that was predicted to be covered by Obama Care insurance policies by now is off by about 50%.
So the many promises of Obama relative to the legislation, e.g. a family could see its annual health insurance costs go down by up to $2,500, if you like your doctor and hospital and insurance policy you can keep them, the cost curve of ever higher healthcare costs would be “bent,”, etc. have not come close to being true.

Chris Jacobs, writing for the National Review on October 25, 2016, offered some other insights into these and other Obama Care failures:

  • The title of his article was called, “Offering Poor Value, Obamacare Exchanges Become Medicaid-like Ghettos.”
  • The logic of his title is that the majority holding Obama Care policies are faced with insurance policies that have very narrow doctor and hospital choices with usually no out of network flexibility except in emergency health cases.
  • As premiums costs go up, but Obama Care policy benefits remain basically unchanged, the value to a potential Obama Care policyholder becomes very poor.
  • According to a recent Obama administration report, 81% of Obama Care policy holders earn less than $60,750 for a family of four and half earn less than $40,095 for a family of four, meaning that the vast majority of Obama Care policy holders are getting very lucrative taxpayer subsidies.
  • They also are likely to be very sensitive to monthly costs which means they are looking for the most inexpensive policies available despite the subsidies they are receiving.
  • This income sensitivity usually forces them into Medicaid like policies that have very narrow networks which is the only way the insurance companies offering the Obama Care policies can get costs down low enough along with high deducitbles that that these policy holders often cannot afford.
  • To prove this point, McKinsey consultants found that 75% of Obama Care policies in 2017 will have no out of network options, indicating a Medicaid like situation.
  • These Medicaid-like policies and their associated narrow networks on average have one third fewer specialists than the average employer insurance plan.
  • Mr. Jacobs explains how the death spiral is now working for ObamaCare subsidized policies: “Insurers who specialize in Medicaid managed-care plans using narrow networks have managed to eke out small profits amid other insurers’ massive exchange losses. As a result, other carriers have narrowed their product offerings, making Obamacare plans look more and more alike: narrow networks, tightly managed care — yet ever-rising premiums.”
  • What then happens is that more and more narrow networks of doctors and hospitals along with a strait jacket set of healthcare options laid on top of every rising premiums and deductibles makes Obama Care policies more and more unattractive to healthy, young, and affluent customers who continue to shun Obama Care policy options more and more over time resulting in even more narrow networks, higher premiums, etc., etc., etc.= death spiral.
Another perspective on how Obama Care is continues to implode.

2) We often finish up these monthly posts with a set of examples of how Obama Care is affecting actual Americans. Underneath the overall averages of ever increasing premiums and deductibles, the ever decreasing number of doctors and hospitals available to Obama Care customers, there are actual Americans struggling to cope with the failures of this legislation. We will finish up today’s and this month’s review of the unfolding disasters from Obama Care by again referencing the following website where Americans have posted some of the trauma and stress experiences Obama Care has caused them:

www.ourhealthcarestories.com

CARA, WEST VIRGINIA: My 55 year old brother and 61 year old wife had their policy cancelled courtesy of Obamacare. Due to the Obama proclamation that for now the companies can offer them a policy again, Blue Cross notified them it would sign them up again after all, for $500 MORE per month.

ROB, WEST VIRGINIA: My mother suffers from rheumatoid arthritis. From diagnosis to having to medically retire from being a registered nurse, took about 2 years. Her doctor got her on meds that greatly lowed the disease, gave her more mobility, and less pain. Once ObamaCare hit, the costs of all but 2 meds has tripled. The cost of the other 2 quadrupled. Being on a fixed income, she can no longer afford these meds. Then, to add insult to injury, the cost of her co-pays has doubled.

CAMILLE: “We are the Obama people,” said Camille Sweeney, a New York writer and member of the Authors Guild. Her insurance is being canceled, and she is dismayed that neither her pediatrician nor her general practitioner appears to be on the exchange plans. What to do has become a hot topic on Facebook and at dinner parties frequented by her fellow writers and artists.

RICHARD, MICHIGAN: From NBC News: Richard Helgren, a Lansing, Mich., retiree, said he was “irate” when he received a letter informing him that his wife Amy's $559 a month health plan was being changed because of the law. The plan the insurer offered raised his deductible from $0 to $2,500, and the company gave him 17 days to decide.

The higher costs spooked him and his wife, who have painstakingly planned for their retirement years. "Every dollar we didn't plan for erodes our standard of living," Helgren said. Ulltimately, though Helgren opted not to shop through the ACA exchanges, he was able to apply for a good plan with a slightly lower premium through an insurance agent. He said he never believed President Obama’s promise that people would be able to keep their current plans.

"I heard him only about a thousand times," he said. "I didn't believe him when he said it though because there was just no way that was going to happen. They wrote the regulations so strictly that none of the old policies can grandfather."

MICHAEL, NEW YORK: Michael Kennedy, who runs two family-owned dog-grooming salons near Albany, said changes to his cut-rate insurance coverage mandated by ObamaCare had more than doubled the cost, from $132.99 to $325.92 a month per person.

And when he checked the cost of buying an ObamaCare policy instead, it was “basically the same price, or even more,” he said.

Kennedy, 46, said that he and his wife clear only about $60,000 a year from their Pink Dog Parlor and Resort business, and that paying the new, higher premiums will be “a huge challenge.”

“It’s like another 100 dogs we need to groom,” he said.

TOM, LOUISIANA: Obamacare has required my insurance carrier to double my premium beginning Jan 2015. I will no longer be able to afford the premium. The reason the premium is being raised is to provide coverage required by Obamacare but for which I have no need. Obamacare is forcing me to forego insurance I chose, and can pay for to having no insurance at all. I will have to cancel my insurance but I will send the bill to the fool of a senator who voted for the law, Mary Landrieu.

Real Americans suffering real pain, health and financial and stress, as a result of this horrible legislation. More unfolding disasters likely next month.

November, 2016, Part 6, The Unfolding Disaster That Is Obama Care: Obama Is Still Delusional, Young Americans Ignoring The Law, and Who Is Stupid Now Jonathan Gruber?6

1) We have already discussed the reality that Obama is living in a different world when it comes to Obama Care. He recently proclaimed that only a handful of Americans will be affected by the rampaging increases in Obama Care policy costs but we showed that his handful of Americans is at least 2.3 million people, bigger than all but three cities in the country.

Well, according to the Washington Free Beacon newspaper and an article by Andrew Kugle on November 7, 2016, he is back at the delusional business. At a recent political rally in Florida, Obama claimed that: “The parade of horribles that Republicans have talked about haven’t happened." Obama told a crowd of supporters in Florida on Thursday.

The parade of horribles that Republicans predicted years ago included increased costs of health insurance for Americans, the loss of insurance policies for people that currently had health insurance coverage, and increased costs, regulations, and hassles for small businesses. Specifically:

  1. Congressman Paul Ryan said that, “This bill does not control costs.”
  2. Senator Lamar Alexander said that, “Premiums will increase in the individual (insurance) market.”
  3. Congressman Eric Cantor said that, “Between eight million and nine million people might very well lose the coverage they have.”

And what actually happened? Premium and deductible costs will skyrocket in 2017 for Obama Care policies with premiums costs going up a national average of over 20%, with some state premium costs going up much higher in different states. Millions of Americans, who were happy with their existing insurance policies, were forced to find new insurance policies that were almost always substantially higher than the policies they were happy with but were forced to give up because of Obama Care.

President Obama, still living in alternative reality when it comes to the unfolding disaster that is Obama Care. In fact, the fact checking organization, Politifact, rated Obama;’s claim that “If you like your health care plan, you can keep it” as the “lie of the year.

2) Jamie Gregora, writing for the Heritage Foundation, talked about the major problem with Obama Care, namely that younger healthier Americans did not sign up for Obama Care problems, quite possibly because they did not want to be the Obama Care stooges that would subsidize healthcare costs for older Americans:

  • Given that younger Americans mostly feel that they are young and healthy and will not need health insurance and that paying the Obama Care fine for not having insurance is far less than the cost of Obama Care insurance policies, the decision to not get insurance is a no brainer.
  • This is especially true since younger people usually have lower incomes than the rest of America and they have other, more important expenses to worry about.
  • American adults aged 18 to 34 represented 40% of the uninsured in the country but accounted for only 24% of the Obama Care policy holders in 2014, perfectly illustrating why Obama Care is failing, younger and healthier Americans are not signing up for Obama Care at the same rate that they exist in the population.
  • The Obama Care legislation also forbids insurance companies from charging more for insurance for older Americans who are more likely to need health insurance coverage which means that the insurance companies have to charge younger Americans more, who are less likely to need health insurance coverage, which puts health insurance costs out of the reach of younger Americans.
Is this flaw of the legislation fixable? Probably not, according to Ed Haismaier, a senior research fellow in health policy studies at the Heritage Foundation: “Without changing a lot of the basic design of the [Affordable Care Act], there’s no way to really bring down the cost … for young, healthy people. Young, healthy people tend to have lower incomes and would rather spend their money on something else, so it’s difficult to give them a value proposition where they would instead spend money on [health insurance].”

3) Let’s finish up today with an oldie but goodie from the disastrous history of Obama Care. Remember when Obama Care architect, MIT economist Jonathan Gruber, proudly bragged that the law was intentionally written in a contorted way to make it impossible to figure out exactly what was in it and that the supporters of the legislation relied on the stupidity of Americans to get it passed? Relive this idiot’s comments at:

Who is stupid now, Mr. Gruber? Americans you so despise or the law you helped write that has increased premiums and deductibles to unheard of levels, repressed the number of insurance companies competing in the Obama Care market, has limited choices in the doctors and hospitals that can be used, and robbed millions of Americans of the insurance policies they had and who were happy with what they had?

One last set of Obama Care failures tomorrow.
