Time to check in on the American political class and see what nonsense, idiocy, and other shenanigans they are up to:
1)Political corruption doesn't just exist in DC, as we see what is unfolding in Oakland, California:
Former mayor, Sheng Thao, was recalled from office.
Turns out that Thao and her boyfriend, Andre Jones, had allegedly been running a bribery scheme.
Not surprisingly, when her home was raided by law enforcement, she somehow thought that the world would believe when she accused Republicans for her plight, not her bribery activities: “There are a lot of radical right-wing forces who know they will never win an election in Oakland fair and square. They know their extreme views are at odds with our Oakland values.”
However, the U.S. Attorney's Office for the Northern District in California had a more realistic explanation for the raid: “An eight-count indictment was unsealed today charging former Oakland Mayor Sheng Thao, her longtime romantic partner Andre Jones, and local businessmen David Trung Duong and Andy Hung Duong with bribery offenses, and charging Andy Duong with making false statements to government agents. According to the indictment filed Jan. 9, 2025, in the weeks leading up to the City of Oakland Mayoral election in November 2022 and following her election as Mayor, Thao promised to take official actions as the Mayor of Oakland to benefit David Duong and Andy Duong, in exchange for the Duongs providing various benefits to Thao and Jones. David Duong was the president and CEO of a recycling company that provided residential recycling collection services to Oakland households, and was also the chairman and co-owner of a housing company formed to develop and manufacture prefabricated modular homes. Andy Duong, David Duong’s son, was an employee of the recycling company and also a founder and co-owner of the housing company.”
Another day, another corrupt politician living off of the taxpayer wealth that their constituents thought they were paying for government services.
2)Just when you think you have heard every lame brained idea from politicians, they come up with another inane concept:
San Francisco has a traffic problem in certain areas of the city where there is a high degree of speeding drivers.
As a result, the city government installed an automated speed camera enforcement program to catch and fine speeders.
Cameras will be deployed in 33 locations around the city.
So far, so good: a dangerous situation that the local government is trying to remedy and keep citizens safe, great.
According to the mayor: “No matter how you get around our city, you should be able to do it without fearing for your life. That is why I am proud that San Francisco is the first city in California to implement automated speed cameras. Speeding is the number one cause of traffic injuries and fatalities in this city. It is my job as mayor to protect our residents and visitors and that is what we are doing today.”
But the whole concept gets crazy and insane since the amount of the fines to be paid will be based on the income of the speeder.
Low income speeders could see their fines reduced up to 50% vs.higher earner speeders.
Thus, the degree of criminality will depend on how wealthy the culprit is.
Same crime, different penalties, ridiculous.
Wow, what’s next: different penalties for shoplifting based on income? Poorer people will get less prison sentences for murder than wealthy people? Justice should be blind to who committed the crime and not have a sliding scale of economic justice.
Plus, it is unknown how the government will find out what a person’s economic status is in order to adjust the penalty, opening the government and politicians to “1984” like intrusion into people's lives.

Recent efforts to fix the broken election processes across the country affirm that our voting processes, the bedrock of democracy, are still in need of fixing and restoring integrity:
State governments in Idaho and Missouri recently went through an audit of their voting processes.
They ended up removing a whopping 300,000 voter registrations off of their voter rolls.
Those removed included voters/citizens who were inactive, ineligible, or deceased or registered voters who were non-citizens.
Given that Trump recently signed an executive order to “ identify unqualified voters registered in the States: the Secretary of Homeland Security shall, consistent with applicable law, ensure that State and local officials have, without the requirement of the payment of a fee, access to appropriate systems for verifying the citizenship or immigration status of individuals registering to vote or who are already registered.”, it is consistent with what was found in Idaho and Missouri.
Idaho took 144,121 voter registration out of its voter rolls.
Affected voters were notified of their removal before the registrations were canceled.
According to the governor: “Ensuring the integrity of our elections starts with maintaining accurate voter rolls.Thanks to the hard work of our county clerks and our collaboration with state and federal agencies, Idaho continues to lead the way in protecting our elections. We are committed to ensuring that only eligible voters are on our rolls, and we are taking every step necessary to make that happen.”
Missouri took almost 140,000 off of their voter rolls.
As a side note, Iowa recently removed almost 300 bogus voters from their rolls who were illegal immigrants.
Good for these states to ensure that only citizens cast votes in our elections. If these two states found almost 300,000 bad voter registrations, states that are by far not the most populated states, imagine how many millions of bogus voter registrations exist in the other 48 states and how those millions of false registrations weaken the value of your vote and our democracy.
Enough for today: still corrupt voter processes, still corrupt politicians, and and still stupid government ideas.
