Every month we devote posts to just general political class insanity that is running rampant through the country. The members of the American political class continue to show that they are incapable of operating any level of government in this country.
Even their best efforts are almost always inefficient and ineffective at resolving any problem facing Americans. They spend a great amount of time not trying to improve the lives of their citizens but continually ensuring their reelection and enriching themselves, their families, and their friends in the process, all at taxpayer expense.
1)Let me see if I got this right:
There is a war going on in Gaza.
There is a war going on in the Ukraine.
Every day, U.S. naval forces are engaged in battle in the Red Sea.
U.S. service personnel have recently been attacked multiple times in Iraq.
China is likely planning to attack Taiwan.
North Korea is actively improving the range and accuracy of its missile weapons.
Iran is actively getting closer everyday to becoming a nuclear weapons owner.
Turkish air force jets recently bombed two different countries.
And in the midst of this dangerous world, Biden's Secretary of Defense, Lloyd Austin, decides this is a good time to have major surgery for cancer, undergoing general anesthesia and he:
Does not tell his boss, the Commander in Chief, that he will be incapacitated for a while or where he will be.
Does not tell his second in command, who is out of the country on vacation, that he will be incapacitated for a while or where he will be.
Does not tell the National Security Council that he will be incapacitated for a while or where he will be.
Does not formally or informally cede his responsibilities to anyone in the Pentagon while he is incapacitated for a while.
He and his staff lie about his whereabouts for days, saying he is working from home, while he is incapacitated for a while.
In summary, the person responsible for the safety and defense of U.S. service people around the world, the person who would be critical to deciding whether to launch nuclear weapons in defense of the country, the person who is responsible for protecting the homeland goes off the grid, goes AWOL, and tells no one what is going on for days on end. A dereliction of duty of the highest degree and , in my humble opinion, just another act of incompetence by the most incompetent Presidential administration in my lifetime.
2)We have often discussed the reality that a number of states, e.g. California, Illinois, New York, New Jersey, have a very good chance of soon entering a financial death spiral that will drive the state government’s in one or more of these states into bankruptcy. Our theory is based on the following realities:
These states already place a very heavy tax burden on their in-state residents and businesses.
These heavy tax burdens have started to drive residents and businesses out of the states in order to keep more of their hard earned wealth and not pass it onto the state politicians that continually waste these tax dollars.
As residents and businesses leave the state, the state government tax base and resulting tax revenue shrinks,
Rather than reduce state government spending to align with the reduced tax revenue, the state politicians raise taxes which drives more residents and businesses out of the state which further reduces the tax base and resulting in more tax shortfalls.
As the tax base continues to shrink, government services (police, fire, EMT, education) are reduced and taxes are raised all of which drives more people out of the state and the financial death spiral is in place.
And the states mentioned above are seeing this scenario unfold as residents and businesses are fleeing to greener pastures and the tax shortfall and state government debt balloons. And some folks in California are taking a rather drastic step to break out of this death spiral:
An organization has been formed in California whose purpose is to carve out a piece of the state and create a new state called “New California.”
The organization recently held a rally in the state capital where it proclaimed: “Sacramento, CA will be the location for reading of the New California State Statehood Proclamation. In celebration of the 6th anniversary of New California Declaring Independence from the state of California the Affirmation, Declaration of Independence AND Statehood Proclamation will be read on the California state capital steps.”
The organization laments the loss of freedom, the corrupted elections processes, the flood of illegal immigrants into the state and the taxpayer resources spent to accommodate them, and the higher and higher crime rates in the state’s cities.
So these folks have taken a slightly different view of a failed and oppressive set of government and political class actions. Rather than leave their respective states, like millions have already done, they just want to stay in place but remove themselves from the current state political structure. Different approach, same desire: freedom from an inept.costly, and oppressive political class.
3)We used to talk a lot about New York Congresswoman, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez. At the beginning of her time in Congress, or ignorance regarding simple life concepts was quite amusing:
Despite having graduated with honors from a Boston university with a degree in business//economics, she had not the foggiest idea how the unemployment rate was calculated, something she should have learned early in her high school economic class.
She once tweeted out a video of herself where she said that the U.S. government consisted of three branches: the Presidency, the Senate and the House of Representatives, completely forgetting about the Supreme Court.
When Amazon was seriously considering putting a major white collar facility in her Congressional district, a move that would have made her district very, very wealthy, her ignorance on tax breaks and taxation resulted in Amazon going elsewhere with their facility plans and economic power.
Over time though, her ignorance on so many topics got boring and a waste of time. But she was back in the news recently and not in a good way:
A former top aide of the Congresswoman has allegedly swiped some money from donor funds from his political action committee (PAC) for his own personal use.
At one time, Corbin Trent was Ocasio-Cortez’s communications director.
After leaving that job, he established his own PAC called No Excuses whose main thrust was to kill a Senate filibuster.
He then paid himself $140,000 out of the PAC funds for “consulting” while spending only $14,000 on radio ads to support his filibuster objective.
Thus, he paid himself ten times what he spent on his PAC’s mission.
Now this is not to say that the Congresswoman is at fault in any way. But it is a good example of how corrupt Washington has become when a former top Congressional aide can so easily garner a pretty hefty paycheck for themselves without doing a whole lot to get it.
4)Back to California and its overreaching and inept political class. But before going into their latest antic, consider a few realities that California politicians should be focusing in:
Residents and businesses are fleeing the state and taking their tax dollars with them.
Crime across the state is at a crisis level.
Homelessness across the state is at a crisis level.
The state is rapidly approaching a trillion dollars in unfunded future financial liabilities.
State cities are faced with the very unhealthy reality of public defecation, urination, and drug usage.
The state’s public schools continue to fail at educating the kids in the state.
A lot of very nasty problems that need drastic and focused attention. Unfortunately, the state politicians are working on stupid priorities as we see below:
Under the guise of “safeguarding” kids, the state political class is working on legislation to forbid kids under 12 years old from playing tackle football in schools or private football leagues.
The supporters of the legislation claim that this legislation will protect lives and highlight the availability of alternative sports for kids.
Two problems with these justifications for the legislation: first, in 2021, there were four football-related youth deaths NATIONALLY and those four were all high school players, not youth football players so nationally it is not a big problem.
The second problem with their assumptions is that it should not be their priority to direct kids to alternative sports, given the major problems facing the state.
Opponents of this nonsense point out that of the 89,000 kids that played tackle football in the state last year there were only 20 that may have had a concussion and one of the 89,000 kids died from playing football.
Just a stupid waste of time and resources for a non-problem. And let’s not forget the hypocrisy of the situation: California allows for kids to undergo transgender medical procedures, operations and hormone treatments, to change their sex without parents’ approval. So the state political class allows for kids to undergo radical sex change operations, the long term health consequences of which are unknown, but does not want them playing football for their own health.
The football decision should be a parent and family decision and the state politicians should be focused on issues that affect millions and millions of state residents: high taxes, failing schools, homelessness, high crime, etc. Bad, bad priorities.
That will do it for today’s political class insanity: more corruption in Washington, more bad priorities in California, and a Secretary of Defense that endangered us all.
