Voter Fraud Review - Part 1

One of the most important cornerstones of our country and our democracy is the ability to elect people to office to carry out the wishes of the citizenry. The bedrock of that concept is that one person has one vote which makes all of us equal under this doctrine, rich or poor, white or black, young or old, every vote should be legitimate and count as one person voicing their own opinion in the voting booth.

When this principle of one person one vote is violated or appears to have been violated, the whole foundation of our democracy and freedoms is undermined. We can never be quite sure if the election results actually reflect the will of the people or if those election results have been skewed by incompetence, deceit, criminal behavior, and anti-freedom forces.

I have people in my life that pooh pooh the idea that there is massive voter fraud in this country, either intentional or unintentional, due to incompetence or deceit of government officials and politicians. We are going to take a look at their hypothesis that voter fraud is insignificant over the next few days. I think that when we are done, you will agree that our voting processes are badly broken and possibly criminally broken and skewed and that unless actions are taken to restore the faith in our election processes, the country and the freedoms we enjoy are in serious trouble.

1) Consider a recent article from the American Outlook website regarding some voting irregularities in California:
  • Apparently, at least eleven California counties have more registered voters today than they have eligible citizens living in those counties.
  • This is the conclusion that watchdog Judicial Watch reached after examining state government documents.
  • Judicial Watch took action and sent a letter to the California Secretary of State, Alex Padilla, on behalf of the Election Integrity Project, pointing out this fact and alleging the state was in violation of Federal law: “NVRA [National Voter Registration Act] Section 8 requires states to conduct reasonable list maintenance so as to maintain an accurate record of eligible voters for use in conducting federal elections.1 As you may know, Congress enacted Section 8 of the NVRA to protect the integrity of the electoral process. Allowing the names of ineligible voters to remain on the voting rolls harms the integrity of the electoral process and undermines voter confidence in the legitimacy of elections...As the top election official in California, it is your responsibility under federal law to coordinate California’s statewide effort to conduct a program that reasonably ensures the lists of eligible voters are accurate.”
  • The letter then listed out, on a ratio basis, the counties where there were more registered voters than eligible citizens to vote: Imperial (102%), Lassen (102%), Los Angeles (112%), Monterey (104%), San Diego (138%), San Francisco (114%), San Mateo (111%), Santa Cruz (109%), Solano (111%), Stanislaus (102%), and Yolo (110%).”
  • The letter to Padilla pointed out that the Los Angeles County ratio could be as high as 144%.
  • The letter also pointed out that Padilla had 90 days under the law to fix what is apparently broken.
At this point we do not know if this voting problem is intentional fraud or just incompetence. But it does not matter: something is amiss in at least eleven California counties that helps to undermine the entire California voting process integrity.

2) But it is not just in California where there may be voting fraud and irregularities going on. Consider a September 24, 2017 article from Meagan Devlin and Hans von Spakovsky, writing for the Heritage Foundation, about potential voting fraud in Philadelphia:
  • Since 2006 at least 317 registered Philadelphia voters, who are not even American citizens, have contacted local officials to tell them that they are NOT legal Philadelphia voters even though they appear on Philadelphia voting records.
  • It appears many of them were registered as voters when they applied for or renewed their driver’s license even though they provided documentation to DMV officials that they were not citizens.
  • The 317 have been removed from the voting rolls but no one knows how many other bogus non-citizens are registered as legal city residents and U.S. citizens.
  • At least 44 of the 317 voted in one election and 46 voted in multiple elections even though they were not U.S. citizens.
  • The Public Interest Legal Foundation has published a research report that found 86 instances of Pennsylvania non-citizens who had their voting registrations revoked between 2013 and 2015 but still, almost half of them had actually voted in state elections.
  • Statewide, the Pennsylvania Department of State has identified 1,160 people who were registered voters who asked to be removed from the voting registration lists because they were not U.SA. citizens.
  • The article reports similar problems with non-U.S. citizens voting in New Jersey and Virginia.
The good news is that there are some honest people out there that self reported a problem and fixed it, even though they may have voted illegally in at least one election before doing so. The bad news is that we have no idea how widespread such idiocy is, allowing non-citizens to register as an American voter even though they are not an American citizen. And it is that unknown that undermines confidence in our voting processes.

3) According to Bob Unruh, writing for the WND website recently, California is not the only state where there are counties with more registered voters than their are eligible voters living in that county:
  • Mr. Unruh starts off with the fact that Lowndes County in Alabama may have 131% of registered voters vs. the total eligible citizens in the county.
  • Lowndes is one of 247 counties across the country that the Public Interest Legal Foundation (PILF) has identified in its research that had more registered voters than eligible citizens living in their county.
  • The PILF contacted these counties to explain that “federal law requires election officials to conduct a reasonable effort to maintain voter registration lists free of dead voters, ineligible voters, and voters who have moved away” and that these counties have “significantly more voters on the registration rolls than it has eligible, living, citizen voters.”
  • A total of 12 Alabama counties have more registered voters than eligible citizens.
  • Other states with counties having more registered voters than eligible citizens include Kentucky (41 counties), Michigan (32 counties), Iowa (31), Illinois (22), Mississippi(19),Colorado (17), Texas (12), South Dakota (12), and Nebraska, Georgia, New York, West Virginia, New Mexico, North Carolina, Louisiana, Montana, Virginia, Arizona and Florida which all have less than 10 counties with more registered voters than eligible citizens.
  • PILF President J. Christian Adams explained said that during the 2016 election, 24 states had “bloated voter rolls” and that, “Voter fraud begins with corrupted voter rolls. Our nation’s voter rolls have records that cannot be distinguished between living or dead; citizen or alien; resident or relocated. We hear about possible cyber-attacks, but we aren’t doing enough to fix voter rolls that are certainly corrupt.”
  • He continued to observe: “The voter rolls are so bad in some states that election officials would have a hard time telling the difference between sabotage and negligence.”
Again, no one knows how many of these bloated voter lists resulted in fraudulent voting and criminal activity. But again, perception is reality and it does not provide a warm feeling that the political class and government officials have a handle on clean voting processes and keeping integrity in those voting processes. We have only just begun to show that voting irregularities are possibly endangering the vote and voice of Americans across the country.
