April, 2025, Part 3, Political Class Insanity: SNAP Gets Smart, Funding Australian Universities Gets Stopped, Funding Hate In Philadelphia, and More

The latest political class insanity from around the world:

1)We have often discussed the reality that the 2020 Presidential election was corrupt and criminally negligent in so many different ways. We were led to  believe that Joe Biden got well over 80 million votes while no one had ever gotten close to that many votes even when adjusted for a larger population, Even Obama who had very high approval ratings going into his first election, did not come close to 81 million votes.

The problems with the voting integrity were many including outright fraud, bad voting lists, multiple voting, etc. And given what Judicial Watch has uncovered, there is even more evidence that our voting processes, the foundation of our democracy, have been in very sad, and corruptible condition for a long time:

  • Judicial Watch’s analysis and lawsuits over the past few years has resulted in the removal  of 5 million bogus names from voters’ rolls.

  • These millions were found to be ineligible across almost a dozen states.

  • Kentucky removed 735,000 ineligible voters from their rolls.

  • New York City by itself removed 918,139 bad registrations.

  • Los Angeles County removed 1.2 million.

  • Other ineligible voters were taken off of voter rolls in Pennsylvania, Colorado, Kentucky, and Ohio.

  • Judicial Watch is still working to clean up voter rolls in  Illinois, Oregon, and California.

The good news is that these voting atrocities have been found and fixed. The bad  news  is we have no idea how much more integrity needs to be brought to the voting integrity across the country and help prevent another election steal like in 2020.

2)One  of the main tenets of our democracy has been the separation of church and state. This concept has  been very valuable in order to not allow the state/government/politicians to force others to use their preferred religious affiliations. Government and any kind of organized religion should always be at an arm’s length arrangement.

Apparently the governor of Pennsylvania, Josh Shapiro, never got that message:

  • He recently announced that the state government of Pennsylvania is giving a Pennsylvania mosque $5 million of taxpayer wealth.

  • Not only is this a blatant violation of the separation of church and state concept but the imam of this particular mosque once declared that “Jews are the vilest people.

  • Given that Shapiro is Jewish, this makes no sense on top of the fact that taxpayer funds should not be  directed to any religious organization, especially one full of hate.

  • According to local  TV station WHYY in  Philadelphia, the location of this mosque, the imam has often hurled very harsh and disgusting words fallah,or the Jewish people, declaring that Arabs were superior to all races, Jews were the “enemies of Allah,” and that Islam needs to be  imposed upon the world.

  • According to Shapiro’s office, the $5 million is to be used for the mosque’s community center which will add 12 classrooms and other educational  spaces for 300 students.

  • According to Shapiro: "This is a moment where I think communities are fearful of the federal government and that's deeply concerning to me and I want the Muslim community to know that they're welcome here in Pennsylvania. I've got their back and I'm going to protect them and I'm going to do everything in my power to ensure that their rights are protected here in the commonwealth."

So much for hateful speech and  intentions. Shapiro gives this religious organization $5 million of taxpayer dollars? This is a very slippery slope: if he gave the money to a Muslim religious organization, why not give money to a Christian organization? Why not give money to a Jewish organization? Separation of church and state, it is what keeps each  other out of each other’s business.

3)Food stamps, now called SNAP, are a Federal  government program  designed to provide nutritious food to those in our society that are facing tough economic times so that they and their families can still get food for their needs.  It is a noble program to help the down and out in our society, no one should go hungry in the richest country in the world.

But SNAP should not be designed to allow those receiving the benefits to indulge in non-essential food and drinks. It was designed to provide nutrition to those in need. Which is why I never understood why SNAP dollars and benefits could be used for candy, cakes, soda and other non-nutritious foods, foods that are actually not healthy for human consumption.

But politicians in several states are FINALLY realizing how counterproductive it is for taxpayers to be subsidizing unhealthy food choices of those on SNAP:

  • At least 15 state governments are enacting legislation that would forbid the use of SNAP benefits for the unhealthy products listed above.

  • In Idaho, state health  officials are requesting a waiver from the Federal government which allows them to ban the use of SNAP funds for candy and soda.

No  one has a right to government taxpayer  money to buy sugary and unhealthy food for themselves and their families. The program is meant to provide  nutritious meals and  food to families in need, not contribute to the national obesity epidemic. Finally, some good sense from some American politicians.

4)We have  already talked about some of the insane and wasteful spending that the Federal government has indulged in over the years, wasting billions and billions of taxpayer dollars in the process:

  • $7.9 million to teach Sri Lankan journalists how to avoid “binary-gendered language.”

  •  $20 million for a new Sesame Street show in Iraq.

  • $4.5+ million to “combat disinformation” in Kazakhstan.

  • $1.5 million for “art for inclusion of people with disabilities.”

  • $2 million for sex changes and “LGBT activism” in Guatemala.

More immense wastes of money like this can be found at the following link and those that followed:

https://loathemygovernment.blogspot.com/2025/02/february-2025-by-numbers-part-2.html

We will shortly be doing an extensive review of recently uncovered wasteful  government spending beyond what we have  already documented. However, the following waste example really caught our eye in that it involved the sending of $600 million in US taxpayer funds halfway around the world:

  • The Prime Minister of Australia recently held an emergency meeting.

  • Why  should that concern Americans you  might ask?

  • Well, the Trump administration rightly decided that sending $600 million of taxpayer money to universities in Australia for their research may not be a good use of taxpayer wealth, terminating these subsidies,  and this cutting of funds triggered the prime minister.

  • The universities that have  had their US funding cut include the Australian National University, Monash University, University of Technology Sydney, University of NSW, Charles Darwin University, Macquarie University and UNSW.

  • The funding was cut after the universities were asked to justify their research funding usage.

  • In a case of unbridled gall, the President of the Australian National Tertiary Education Union called on the Australian government to do something to restore the funding of US taxpayer dollars: “The federal government must push back on the Trump administration’s blatant foreign interference in our independent research in the strongest possible terms.”

  • So stopping the wasting of US taxpayer dollars is “blatant  interference” in their lives, excuse me.

How dare we stop sending hundreds of millions of dollars overseas, even though we have millions of Americans who are homeless, hungry, in need of medical attention, and health insurance, how dare we blatantly interfere with their research half a world away. Fortunately, the current administration is starting to  protect American interests and taxpayer wealth.

Enough political class insanity for today: more than half a billion dollars shipped around the world, finally some SNAP logic and common sense, blatant violation of church and state, and finally cleaning up voter rolls, saving our democracy one fake voter at a time.

December, 2021, Part 1, Political Class Insanity: Loss Of Common Sense at the Department of Transportation, Loss Of Freedom in Australia and More

It is the beginning of another month which means it is time again to review the latest political class insanity from the American political class. Each month it takes us multiple posts to cover the wasteful spending, incompetent government organizations and employees, government programs that usually make a problem worse than resolving it, inane and idiotic politician comments, etc.

To review past posts on this insanity and idiocy, just click on the first few posts in each month listed to the right of this page. After reviewing just a handful of these insanity posts we think you will agree that we are currently being served by the worst set of American politicians ever to hold office in our entire history.

1) Two often occurring themes in this blog are the following two topics:
  • The political class in Chicago has for years been unable to protect its citizens from the ever rising violence and crime rates in the city, causing thousands of people to be shot and hundreds to be killed every year from criminal violence.
  • A very basic function of any government is to protect the lives and property of the citizens it has responsibility for and over the past few years, mostly liberal cities and states have failed miserably in that function and show no signs of doing it any better going forward.
And while the focus of the above two points is almost always Chicago, it seems the political class in Philadelphia is doing just as bad job in protecting its citizens as the politicians in Chicago:
  • Philadelphia is on pace in 2021 to shatter its current record for annual homicides with the city already experiencing over 500 murders with a full month in the year still to go.
  • The current murder record has been in place for 31 years.
  • The city recently passed budget that tried to address the violence and record setting murder rate by setting aside $155 million for “violence prevention programs” which are supposed to reduce gun violence.
  • $22 million of that money was to be spent on such drivel as “trauma-informed healing and restorative practices and safe havens and mentorship.
  • But it appears that the city is also a victim of their politicians' rush to “defund the police” since according to the police commissioner the city police force is suffering low morale as a result of defunding and attacks on the integrity of the police force, all of which has made it difficult to recruit and train enough police officers for the force.
Another example of where the defund the police, such a stupid idea to begin with, has resulted in incremental pain and deaths in another American city and the continued failure of this city to provide a basic government service: to protect the lives and property of its citizens.

2) A very basic right of a citizen living in a free country is the right to vote for the politicians that will best reflect their wishes and desires for public office. There is no better or more basic way to allow people in a free country to express their will and desires. They are the ones that pay the taxes that are spent by the politicians they elect so it is their right to have a voice in how those dollars are spent.

Unless you live in New York City, where the politicians there think it is alright for non-citizens to have a voice in how taxes are spent, taxes that are generated by hard working American and city residents:
  • City politicians are supporting a motion that would allow hundreds of thousands of non-citizens to vote in city elections.
  • The idea would allow green card holders and those with work authorization to register to vote and take part in citywide elections.
  • Thus, immigrants would not have so much of a need to go through the citizenship process, and in the process gain an understanding of what this country means, if they can walk into a voting booth and cast a vote even though they are not citizens of the country.
So many things wrong with this proposal beginning with the reality that a basic tenet of voting in this country has always been, as it should, that citizens and only citizens should be able to vote on the issues and candidates that will affect their lives. It also is a gateway to allowing illegal immigrants to also start to vote even though they are here illegally and likely not contributing their fair share of taxes but would yet have a say in how others tax dollars are being spent. A very slippery slope and danger to democracy in this country for its citizens.

3) For a very long time, Australia has been a sturdy and faithful democracy, supporting the basic rights of free speech, free actions, and other freedoms to be exercised by its citizens. But somehow that long tradition of freedom has been trashed almost overnight by the political class in that country in response to the covid pandemic:
  • The country and its citizens have been subjected to draconian and often violent and unreasonably lockdowns form the start of the pandemic.
  • These lockdown and other pandemic related freedom restrictions have included stringent mask requirements, massive reductions in the ability to go about one’s life, and other dictatorial rules and regulations.
  • And just when you thought that the restrictions on freedom could not get much worse, Australian politicians took their authoritarian approach to a whole new level.
  • The national legislature in the country recently passed a law that would give full control of their citizens’ social media accounts to the government.
  • This would allow the government to easily and without due cause or court warrants to spy on anything a citizen put up on their social media account.
  • Not only would they get access, the government now has the ability to add and delete information from your social media account and edit and modify it to its liking without a person’s consent.
  • The government can also impersonate a person online to get what they want.
  • This form of dictatorship and censorship has been given the overall name of “data disruption.”
  • According to reporting by the Guardian: “It is alarming that, instead of accepting the committee’s recommendations and allowing time for scrutiny of subsequent amendments, the Morrison government rushed these laws through parliament in less than 24 hours, While the safeguards for journalists and whistleblowers are welcome, they highlight the lack of wider entrenched safeguards for press freedom and free speech in Australia.”
When one thinks of dictatorships and censorship, the usual suspects are countries like Communist China, Russia, Cuba, Venezuela, etc. One does not think that a long standing democracy like Australia would go Orwellian and especially go so 1984ish so quickly. But this is just what has happened, a prime example of how fragile democracy and freedom is especially when power hungry, egotistical politicians take command.

4) Peter Buttigieg is currently Biden’s Secretary of Transportation. He was a medicare mayor of a third tier town in Indiana, he was a dramatically failed Presidential candidate, and has done nothing in his current job to alleviate the supply chain crisis gripping this country. And with a recent comment, it becomes obvious that he is just as bad and ineffective as his history indicates he would be:
  • He recently made the stupid assertion that once families but an electric vehicle, they will “never have to worry about gas prices again.”
  • Which is an obviously correct statement but what about the skyrocketing electric bills families will face when they try to charge their electric cars with power?
  • There is no free lunch in life, you either worry about gas prices or you worry about electricity prices, duh!
  • Twitter user, Rogue Elf summarized the stupidity of his logic with the following tweet: ”This is like saying, Let me pay off my credit card by using another credit card and look at me, I'm credit card free now!"
  • Never mind the fact that the cost to operate electric vehicles today is higher than the operation of a gas vehicle and this is likely to not get reversed especially as more and more people buy electric cars, increasing demand for electricity and the resultant increase in electric rates.
  • Also, keep in mind that electric cars are much more expensive to purchase than gas powered cars, introducing another cost to electric vehicles.
  • And while there will be no need to worry about gas prices according to Pete, how about the long times needed to recharge an electric vehicle as opposed to a few minutes to gas up, how about the drop in capacity of electric vehicles and batteries in cold weather, requiring even more charging time, or the inability to find a charging station while on the road while gas stations are everywhere?
We used to laugh at the ignorance, lack of real world experience and lack of common sense that Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez has displayed over time, (e.g. not knowing the basic definition of unemployment, stating that the three branches of government were the Presidency, the House and the Senate, etc.) but this statement by the Secretary of Transportation, that all our transportation worries and expenses will go away with the spread of electric vehicles, put shim right up there with the idiocy of Ocasio-Cortez. And to think this guy thought he had the intellectual capacity to be President.

That will do it for today’s insanity” loss of common sense at the Department of Transportation, loss of freedom in Australia, loss of voting power in NYC, and loss of personal safety in Philadelphia. Quite the day for the continuing failures of the world’s political class.

April, 2020, Part 5, Political Class Insanity: Insanity From Around The World

It is the beginning of another month which means it is time again to review the latest political class insanity from the American political class. Each month it takes us multiple posts to cover the wasteful spending, incompetent government organizations and employees, government programs that usually make a problem worse than resolving it, inane and idiotic politician comments, etc.

To review past posts on this insanity and idiocy, just click on the first few posts in each month listed to the right of this page. After reviewing just a handful of these insanity posts we think you will agree that we are currently being served by the worst set of American politicians ever to hold office in our entire history.

1) Today let’s stay away from the coronavirus political class insanity and look at the regular, run-of-the mill insanity from our politicians and politicians around the world. Let’s start today with some insane waste of taxpayer money in Worcester, Massachusetts:
  • The politicians in that city wanted to provide a new, minor league baseball park for a minor league baseball team.
  • The first insult to the citizens of that city was to use eminent domain to condemn and then seize the property of two small businesses for the ballpark.
  • They then put up a whopping $100 million of city taxpayer wealth to fund the construction of the ballpark.
  • The patrons of the new ballpark will be the top minor league team of the Boston Red Sox.
  • Keep in mind that the Red Sox are one of the wealthiest major league baseball teams in the world, annually paying just their major league players around $200 million a year in salaries.
  • And yet the politicians in Worcester decided that they needed to put forth $100 million in city funds to lure the Red Sox minor league team away from their current ballpark in Rhode Island where that city’s politicians would only promise a whopping $38 million in stadium upgrades.
  • When the Worcester Business Journal asked 10 economists to evaluate the value of this investment, nine of the ten doubted the city would ever recoup its investment.
  • The lone dissenter of the ten just happened to come from Smith College and who had been hired by the city to justify this outrageous waste of taxpayer wealth.
The city of Worcester has just under 200,000 residents which means that each city resident, man, woman, and child theoretically put up $537 to fund the $100 million investment. Does anyone really think that those people will ever recoup their hypothetical $537 tax hit? They are all still going to have to pay for parking, hot dogs, tickets, etc.

They will never break even even though the $100 million went to support one of the richest team franchises in the world. How many more computers for the city schools could have been bought for $100 million? How many more teachers could have been hired for $100 million? How many city roads could have been fixed or improved for $100 million? Instead the city politicians gave millions of dollars to a billion dollar baseball team. Insane.

2) The following few pieces of insanity come from the April, 2020 issue of Reason magazine. First off, consider the “coincidence” that happened in the local government of Inglewood, California:
  • That city has a housing authority that has funding to subsidize the purchase of a first home for needy city residents.
  • Sounds like a decent program with good intentions.
  • Given that info, consider the backgrounds of a city employee, Jazmine Covington.
  • Ms. Covington worked for the city housing authority when the guidelines for the first time buyer housing subsidy program were being developed.
  • Her mother is the city’s acting budget manager.
  • And yet, given the background of these two folks, city government employees, guess who was the first person to get money from the housing authority to purchase her first home: none other than Jazmine Covington!
  • What a coincidence, a person who helped develop the guidelines and criteria for getting taxpayer money, the daughter of the city’s budget manager, she just so happened to get the first subsidy, again, what a coincidence.
  • The head of the housing authority, Roberto Chavez, tried his darndest to assure everyone that this selection of a city employee to get the first subsidy was totally kosher, no monkey business here: “There have been no violations of its policies nor special exceptions made for any entrant including Ms. Covington."
  • And further, the selection of Ms. Covington was via a lottery process and she just so happened to have the lottery pick her, what are the odds?
The bigger question, Mr. Chavez, is why she was in the lottery in the first place? I would think that a city employee is probably paid decently, more than most other lower income people who were probably more deserving and more in need of housing support. This could all be legit but given American politicians' propensity to take care of themselves and their friends and family first, I have my doubts.

3) Political class insanity is not just an American trait. Consider this insanity from Australia:
  • One would think that any investment in fire fighting in a city or other government entity would be solely to provide the most up to date and needed fire fighting equipment to fight fires.
  • I mean that is why fire departments exist, to protect the lives and property of the taxpayers who pay the taxes to staff, equip, and support their fire fighting capability.
  • That is not quite true in the state of Western Australia.
  • You see, they have a rule that says that if the value of any public building is to be over $2 million, then 1% of that cost must be diverted to buying and displaying works of art in that building.
  • Yes, rather than buy new and/or better equipment, some fire stations in that state have had to spend taxpayer money to buy art to be displayed in their fire stations.
To hell with saving lives, have you seen that wonderful oil painting next to the fire truck? Too insane to believe sometimes.

4) Sometimes the first act of political class insanity leads to subsequent, even more insane acts of insanity to try and fix the first act. Such is the case in France:
  • Apparently in France, only a doctor can pronounce someone officially dead.
  • This act cannot be done by a coroner, pathologist, nurse, or anyone else.
  • In fact, a dead body cannot be moved until a real doctor certifies them as dead.
  • The problem in France is that there is a continually shrinking pool of doctors.
  • This has led to a growing problem, especially in rural areas, that if someone dies at home, the family sometimes has to wait days for a doctor to actually come by and actually make the pronouncement of death.
  • Rather than logically fix the problem, i.e. allow other trained and certified personnel to make the death pronouncement so that dead bodies do not stay around a family home for days, the brilliance of the French political class shown through.
  • The politicians in a town passed a law, according to the New York Times, that made it illegal to die at home.
Somehow dictating where one could be allowed to die was going to solve this idiocy.

You cannot make this stuff up: a local government dictating where you can die, spending valuable firefighting taxpayer money on works of art, nepotism in housing subsidies, and wasting $100 million on a minor league baseball team, uprooting upstanding small businesses in the process. Thus, as you can see, political class insanity rages on even during the days of the coronavirus insanity.
