December, 2021, Part 1, Political Class Insanity: Loss Of Common Sense at the Department of Transportation, Loss Of Freedom in Australia and More

It is the beginning of another month which means it is time again to review the latest political class insanity from the American political class. Each month it takes us multiple posts to cover the wasteful spending, incompetent government organizations and employees, government programs that usually make a problem worse than resolving it, inane and idiotic politician comments, etc.

To review past posts on this insanity and idiocy, just click on the first few posts in each month listed to the right of this page. After reviewing just a handful of these insanity posts we think you will agree that we are currently being served by the worst set of American politicians ever to hold office in our entire history.

1) Two often occurring themes in this blog are the following two topics:
  • The political class in Chicago has for years been unable to protect its citizens from the ever rising violence and crime rates in the city, causing thousands of people to be shot and hundreds to be killed every year from criminal violence.
  • A very basic function of any government is to protect the lives and property of the citizens it has responsibility for and over the past few years, mostly liberal cities and states have failed miserably in that function and show no signs of doing it any better going forward.
And while the focus of the above two points is almost always Chicago, it seems the political class in Philadelphia is doing just as bad job in protecting its citizens as the politicians in Chicago:
  • Philadelphia is on pace in 2021 to shatter its current record for annual homicides with the city already experiencing over 500 murders with a full month in the year still to go.
  • The current murder record has been in place for 31 years.
  • The city recently passed budget that tried to address the violence and record setting murder rate by setting aside $155 million for “violence prevention programs” which are supposed to reduce gun violence.
  • $22 million of that money was to be spent on such drivel as “trauma-informed healing and restorative practices and safe havens and mentorship.
  • But it appears that the city is also a victim of their politicians' rush to “defund the police” since according to the police commissioner the city police force is suffering low morale as a result of defunding and attacks on the integrity of the police force, all of which has made it difficult to recruit and train enough police officers for the force.
Another example of where the defund the police, such a stupid idea to begin with, has resulted in incremental pain and deaths in another American city and the continued failure of this city to provide a basic government service: to protect the lives and property of its citizens.

2) A very basic right of a citizen living in a free country is the right to vote for the politicians that will best reflect their wishes and desires for public office. There is no better or more basic way to allow people in a free country to express their will and desires. They are the ones that pay the taxes that are spent by the politicians they elect so it is their right to have a voice in how those dollars are spent.

Unless you live in New York City, where the politicians there think it is alright for non-citizens to have a voice in how taxes are spent, taxes that are generated by hard working American and city residents:
  • City politicians are supporting a motion that would allow hundreds of thousands of non-citizens to vote in city elections.
  • The idea would allow green card holders and those with work authorization to register to vote and take part in citywide elections.
  • Thus, immigrants would not have so much of a need to go through the citizenship process, and in the process gain an understanding of what this country means, if they can walk into a voting booth and cast a vote even though they are not citizens of the country.
So many things wrong with this proposal beginning with the reality that a basic tenet of voting in this country has always been, as it should, that citizens and only citizens should be able to vote on the issues and candidates that will affect their lives. It also is a gateway to allowing illegal immigrants to also start to vote even though they are here illegally and likely not contributing their fair share of taxes but would yet have a say in how others tax dollars are being spent. A very slippery slope and danger to democracy in this country for its citizens.

3) For a very long time, Australia has been a sturdy and faithful democracy, supporting the basic rights of free speech, free actions, and other freedoms to be exercised by its citizens. But somehow that long tradition of freedom has been trashed almost overnight by the political class in that country in response to the covid pandemic:
  • The country and its citizens have been subjected to draconian and often violent and unreasonably lockdowns form the start of the pandemic.
  • These lockdown and other pandemic related freedom restrictions have included stringent mask requirements, massive reductions in the ability to go about one’s life, and other dictatorial rules and regulations.
  • And just when you thought that the restrictions on freedom could not get much worse, Australian politicians took their authoritarian approach to a whole new level.
  • The national legislature in the country recently passed a law that would give full control of their citizens’ social media accounts to the government.
  • This would allow the government to easily and without due cause or court warrants to spy on anything a citizen put up on their social media account.
  • Not only would they get access, the government now has the ability to add and delete information from your social media account and edit and modify it to its liking without a person’s consent.
  • The government can also impersonate a person online to get what they want.
  • This form of dictatorship and censorship has been given the overall name of “data disruption.”
  • According to reporting by the Guardian: “It is alarming that, instead of accepting the committee’s recommendations and allowing time for scrutiny of subsequent amendments, the Morrison government rushed these laws through parliament in less than 24 hours, While the safeguards for journalists and whistleblowers are welcome, they highlight the lack of wider entrenched safeguards for press freedom and free speech in Australia.”
When one thinks of dictatorships and censorship, the usual suspects are countries like Communist China, Russia, Cuba, Venezuela, etc. One does not think that a long standing democracy like Australia would go Orwellian and especially go so 1984ish so quickly. But this is just what has happened, a prime example of how fragile democracy and freedom is especially when power hungry, egotistical politicians take command.

4) Peter Buttigieg is currently Biden’s Secretary of Transportation. He was a medicare mayor of a third tier town in Indiana, he was a dramatically failed Presidential candidate, and has done nothing in his current job to alleviate the supply chain crisis gripping this country. And with a recent comment, it becomes obvious that he is just as bad and ineffective as his history indicates he would be:
  • He recently made the stupid assertion that once families but an electric vehicle, they will “never have to worry about gas prices again.”
  • Which is an obviously correct statement but what about the skyrocketing electric bills families will face when they try to charge their electric cars with power?
  • There is no free lunch in life, you either worry about gas prices or you worry about electricity prices, duh!
  • Twitter user, Rogue Elf summarized the stupidity of his logic with the following tweet: ”This is like saying, Let me pay off my credit card by using another credit card and look at me, I'm credit card free now!"
  • Never mind the fact that the cost to operate electric vehicles today is higher than the operation of a gas vehicle and this is likely to not get reversed especially as more and more people buy electric cars, increasing demand for electricity and the resultant increase in electric rates.
  • Also, keep in mind that electric cars are much more expensive to purchase than gas powered cars, introducing another cost to electric vehicles.
  • And while there will be no need to worry about gas prices according to Pete, how about the long times needed to recharge an electric vehicle as opposed to a few minutes to gas up, how about the drop in capacity of electric vehicles and batteries in cold weather, requiring even more charging time, or the inability to find a charging station while on the road while gas stations are everywhere?
We used to laugh at the ignorance, lack of real world experience and lack of common sense that Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez has displayed over time, (e.g. not knowing the basic definition of unemployment, stating that the three branches of government were the Presidency, the House and the Senate, etc.) but this statement by the Secretary of Transportation, that all our transportation worries and expenses will go away with the spread of electric vehicles, put shim right up there with the idiocy of Ocasio-Cortez. And to think this guy thought he had the intellectual capacity to be President.

That will do it for today’s insanity” loss of common sense at the Department of Transportation, loss of freedom in Australia, loss of voting power in NYC, and loss of personal safety in Philadelphia. Quite the day for the continuing failures of the world’s political class.
