July, 2023, Part 5, Political Class Insanity: Failed Border Policies, More FBI Corruption, and More

Every month we devote posts to just general political class insanity that is running rampant through the country. The members of the American political class continue to show that they are incapable of operating any level of government in this country.

Even their best efforts are almost always inefficient and ineffective at resolving any problem facing Americans. They spend a great amount of time not trying to improve the lives of their citizens but continually ensuring their reelection and enriching themselves, their families, and their friends in the process, all at taxpayer expense.

1)We often talk about how American politicians waste so much time, energy,  and resources on stupid priorities while real problems facing real  Americans, e.g. inflation, homelessness, drug addiction, hunger, etc., go unaddressed. We recently discussed the insanity of Vice President Kamala Harris worrying about and working on a solution to small airplane restrooms, a trivial, non-issue for just about every American.

Well, apparently, American politicians are not the only ones that waste time on stupid non-issues:

  • Britain is facing many of the same problems as us, high inflation, huge illegal immigration problem, etc..

  • However, rather than  focus on those types of issues, their politicians recently proposed a law that, wait for it, would make it illegal for men to make a pass or whistle at a woman on the street.

  • Yes, they would outlaw flirting.

  • The legislation is called the “Sex-Based Harassment in Public Bill” and would make it illegal to cause “intentional harassment, alarm, or distress” in a person based on their sex.

  • Those found guilty of flirting could face two years in jail.

Unreal, of all the problems to work on in the country, this is what the government is spending time on.

France is not much better since a French woman was recently charged with “insulting the president of the republic” after calling him “filth” on Facebook. If found guilty, she could be fined up to $13,200.

Such poor priorities of today’s politicians, locally in our country and around the world.

2)American  politicians are ignoring the short term problems currently faced by millions of Americans:

  • About 500,000-600,000 Americans are homeless today.

  • Millions of American families are facing food crises given the high inflation policies of the Biden administration.

  • Well over 100,000 Americans will die from drug overdoses this year because they were not able to get the drug addiction treatment they needed.

  • Prices for just about everything in the country have  risen dramatically over the past two years placing strains on just about every American family's budget.

But American politicians are also ignoring longer term problems that will affect just about every American:

  • Medicare and Social Security are facing tens of trillions of dollars in unfunded future liabilities because politicians have no plan to make these programs solvent in the long term.

  • When Social Security was initiated, there were 16 workers contributing to the Social  Security program for every eligible Social  Security recipient.

  • That number is now down more than 80% with less than three workers contributing to the Social  Security program for every eligible recipient.

  • That ratio will get worse as time goes forward.

  • And the Washington political class has NO plan, strategy, or courage to make the changes necessary to make the program solvent and viable long term.

Of course, the only truly right decision is to  eliminate the program altogether, phase it out over time. According to a 2016 Tax Foundation study, if the program was eliminated and workers were forced to put 10% of their earnings in a tax advantaged account, workers on average would receive three times what Social  Security pays out to them today.

In  that way, we would not have to  worry about Washington fixing a problem due to their lack of brain power and courage since the problem would not exist.

3)Anyone following the news now knows that the FBI has had a very bad few months. It has become apparent that what was once a high integrity, unbiased government agency is now a secret police force as it does the bidding for certain Washington political factions to sabotage the lives of Americans in all walks of life that simply have a simple difference of opinion. From supporting the totally false Russian collusion fiction from Hillary Clinton to sabotage Trump’s Presidency to raiding the homes pro-life American citizens to threatening government whistleblowers, the corruption is wide and disgusting.

And their corruption now extends to members of Congress:

  • The FISA court recently announced that the FBI improperly abused its power in a search of a database.

  • Apparently they were illegally looking for information on a sitting U.S. Senator who has gone unnamed at this point in time.

  • They tried to justify the improper search under Section 702 of the FISA Act but in  reality did not have the vested power to do so.

  • The court opinion by judge Rudolph Contreras laid out the infraction: “In June 2022, an analyst conducted four queries of Section 702 information using the last names of a U.S. Senator and a state senator, without further limitation.”

  • Section 702 allows intelligence agencies to obtain the online communications of foreign nationals without a warrant.

  • In this situation, the FBI was spying not only on Americans, which is not permitted, but on government officials.

  • Patrick Toomey, of the ACLU National Security Project, told The Hill in a statement: “The FBI continues to break the rules put in place to protect Americans, running illegal searches on public officials including a U.S. Senator, and it’s long past time for Congress to step in. As Congress debates reauthorizing Section 702, these opinions make clear why fundamental reforms are urgently needed.”

  • Apparently an FBI employee was searching for info about a state judge that “had complained to the FBI about alleged civil right violations perpetrated by a municipal chief of police.”

Something to worry about: if the FBI has no trepidations about spying on a judge and U.S. Senator, they would have no problem spying on you and I. We are getting closer and closer to a police state, a state that is historically very difficult to recover from.

4)According to the Federation of American Immigration Reform, FAIR, about 7 million illegal immigrants have entered the country since Biden became President. To put that number in context, if those 7 million illegal  immigrants were a state they would be more heavily populated than 35 U.S. states today, a huge number of people.

And American taxpayers are constantly paying for the housing, feeding, medical needs, and cell phones needs of these millions of illegal  immigrants every day, costing the American taxpayers billions of dollars a year. These are billions of dollars that are not being used to feed, shelter, and provide drug addiction and medical support to needy Americans.

In addition to needy Americans getting short changed, tons of drugs are flowing through the border everyday and addicting more and more Americans. Illegal immigrants from such hostile countries such as Iran and China have been apprehended at the border, creating the fear that terrorists have now made their way into the country, endangering Americans with potential terrorist attacks. Thus, there are so many ways that Biden's failed border policies have been bad for Americans in so many nasty ways.

Oh, we now have another illegal immigrant problem:

  • We have  already discussed the problem that the Federal  government under Biden has lost track of the location of over 80,000 immigrant kids.

  • In addition, of the kids that the government actually knows their whereabouts, many of them have now been diagnosed with tuberculosis infections.

  • The Federal government stopped checking the medical condition or status of illegal  immigrants a number of years ago.

  • These kids with tuberculosis have now been disbursed to known and unknown locations around the country.

Wasted taxpayer money, neglected needy Americans, drug epidemics and resultant drug overdose deaths, possible terrorist infiltration of the country, and now lord know how many infected illegal immigrants, with tuberculosis or other diseases, are now living among us. Has there ever been a worse, more destructive Presidential policy than  Biden’s border disaster? I doubt it.

That will do it for today’ insanity: massively failed border policies, more FBI corruption, Social  Security is still  failing, and political class insanity exists around the world.

August, 2019, Part 6, The Unfolding Disaster That Is Obama Care: The Failure of Single Pay Health Care Systems Around the World, Continued

Every month for years now we have had to discuss how bad Obama Care is turning out to be under the continuing theme, “the unfolding disaster that is Obama Care.” This month is no different. As the legislation continues to march through America, driving up health care and health insurance prices as it serves as dead weight on economic growth, it cements its rightful place as the worst piece of legislation Washington has ever produced.

It never had a chance to be successful since it really never addressed the underlying root causes of our ever increasing health costs in the country:

  • Americans eat too much of the wrong kind of food, resulting in obscenely high obesity rates for the country.
  • Our food chain is infested with overdoses of high fructose corn syrup, salt, sugar, and other unhealthy additives.
  • Americans smoke too much.
  • Americans do not exercise enough.
  • The country is in serious need of health care tort reform.
  • Barriers to insurance company competition across state lines need to come down.
  • Obama Care never “followed the money” to find out who is actually profiting from the ever escalating healthcare costs in this country and how to get those factors under control.
  • Obama Care never got the immense amount of fraud and abuse in current government healthcare programs, Medicare and Medicaid, under control in order to save money to efficiently fund other government health care initiatives.
  • Obama Care never put serious research money towards curing the major diseases that drive high healthcare costs such as high frequency cancers and dementia type diseases.
You cannot resolve any problem unless you understand and address the underlying root causes. No difference here: Obama Care legislation never addressed these listed root causes and thus, has no chance of ever being successful.

But it is not just missing the root causes of our healthcare costs that makes Obama Care so horrible. It resulted in millions of Americans losing access to their favored doctors, hospitals, and insurance policies. It has caused insurance premiums, deductibles and copays to escalate substantially. It will likely add trillions of dollars to the national debt. It has exposed millions of Americans to higher than necessary identity theft chances. It has created government bureaucracies that are wastefully spending taxpayer wealth and being exploited by criminal elements. It has stifled economic growth and job creation.

These are just a sample of the types of idiocy that we have been reviewing for the past several years in this blog relative to Obama Care. To read those past posts, just enter the phrase, “the unfolding disaster,” in the search box above.

Several posts ago we reviewed the many, many failures and disasters of Obama Care, probably the worst piece of legislation ever passed when it comes to comparing it to its objectives and its promises. This was the Federal government’s most recent and deepest attempt to try and control the healthcare of Americans and it has ended badly.

In subsequent posts, we showed the numbers and realities around the world of how single payer healthcare systems always fail to provide effective and efficient health care to its citizens. Despite these realities, many Democratic candidates for President want to implement a failed system like this in this country. Today we will continue that discussion of failed single payer healthcare systems from other countries, further proof that this approach to healthcare is a bad, bad idea.

We continue that discussion today, the failures of the single payer healthcare model:

1) Let’s start with the British single payer system using a Freedom Outpost website article by Mac Slavo on January 24, 2018:

  • According to a recent BBC broadcast, hospital patients are dying in British hospital hallways according to 68 British doctors.
  • These 68 doctors sent out an open letter that was addressed to the British Prime Minister which detailed what they called inhumane conditions that are occurring in the nation’s socialized National Health Services (NHS) hospitals.
  • In addition, the doctors cited statistics that show that just in December, 2017 alone, over 300,000 British patients were forced to wait for more than four hours in hospital waiting rooms before being seen by medical personnel.
  • And those folks did not include the thousands of others that were forced to wait hours in ambulances since they could not even fit into emergency rooms.
  • The letter further noted that it was now routine for patients to be left on gurneys in hospital hallways for as long as 12 hours before getting a regular hospital bed.
  • In further disgusting details the doctors showed that around 120 patients a day actually receive medical treatment while in public hallways and waiting rooms, and are “made to undergo humiliating treatments in the public areas of hospitals, and some even dying prematurely as a result….One patient reported having gone to the emergency room with a gynecological problem which had left her in severe pain and bleeding, a lack of treatment rooms led hospital staff to examine her in a busy corridor, in full view of other patients.“
  • In the first week of 2018, over 97% of the National Health Service facilities were operating at levels deemed overcrowded which made them “unsafe.”
What a mess, people waiting for long times to get substandard health care.

2) Let’s get another view of the British single payer system from a Businessweek article:
  • The NHS is being overwhelmed by patients and complaints while complaining about being underfunded.
  • One driving force for all of this is that under their single payer system, everyone gets any medical treatment they can get to, no questions asked, even if those treatments are highly likely to be unnecessary.
  • A few years ago the British Red Cross said the British single payer system was on the verge of a humanitarian crisis.
  • And this observation/finding was before a bad flu epidemic hit the NHS system.
  • There are currently too many patients, whose overall average age is increasing along with the medical needs of an older population, and not enough medical staff.
  • Britain has fewer doctors, CT scanners, and MRI units per capita than most European nations.
  • It ranks near the bottom of European countries when it comes to infant mortality.
  • Many other European countries score better when it comes to avoidable deaths, cancer survival, innovation, consistency of service, and other medical and health measurements.
Again, what a mess. The article does try to make the case that more money might solve a lot, but not all, of these problems. But then it turns around and quotes a former government official who calls the NHS a “bottomless pit” when it comes to funding, implying that shoveling money at the problem will not resolve the lousy healthcare that the British people currently get for their tax dollars.

That will do it for today. Anyone who still thinks that the single payer model is a great idea for the U.S.since it worked so well in England obviously did not read the above horror stories.

January, 2016, Part 2, The Unfolding Disaster That Is Obama Care: An Insurer Cashes Out, Obama Causes Healthcare Costs To Rise andMOre

Every month for years now we have had to discuss how bad Obama Care is turning out to be under the continuing theme, “the unfolding disaster that is Obama Care.” This month is no different. As the legislation continues to march through America, driving up health care and health insurance prices as it serves as dead weight on economic growth, it cements it rightful place as the worst piece of legislation Washington has ever produced.

It never had a chance to be successful since it really never addressed the underlying root causes of our ever increasing health costs in the country:
  • Americans eat too much of the wrong kind of food, resulting in obscenely high obesity rates for the country.
  • Our food chain is infested with overdoses of high fructose corn syrup, salt, and other unhealthy additives.
No difference here but with a big exception: Obama Care legislation never addressed these listed root causes and thus, has no chance of ever being successful.

But it is not just missing the root causes of our healthcare costs that makes Obama Care so horrible. It resulted in millions of Americans losing access to their favored doctors, hospitals, and insurance policies. It has caused deductibles and co-pays to escalate substantially. It will likely add trillions of dollars to the national debt. It has exposed millions of Americans to higher than necessary identity theft chances. It has created government bureaucracies that are wastefully spending taxpayer wealth and being exploited by criminal elements. It has stifled economic growth and job creation.

These are just a sample of the types of idiocy that we have been reviewing for the past several years in this blog relative to Obama Care., To read those past posts, just enter the phrase, “the unfolding disaster,” in the search box above.

For the next several days we will be reviewing the latest unfolding disasters from the worst piece of legislation ever written by Washington:

1) First Unitedhealthcare announced that it was seriously considering stopping its selling of Obama Care policies because of the unprofitability of such policies. But the bad news is that a real Obama Care insurer is actually taking the real step of actually getting out of the Obama Care business.

Cleveland based HealthSpan insurance company recently announced that it would no longer sell Obama Care policies, it is disbanding its doctor network, and told its brokers to stop paying commissions. The company raised its premium rates for 2016 policies from 9% to 32% since it’s Obama Care policy holders were less healthy than expected. In addition, the law required the company to pay over $17 million into Obama Care’s risk adjustment program in 2014, more than what had been planned for. HealthSpan also laid off a number of employees that were servicing Obama Care policies.

This comes on the heels of Unitedhealthcare stating they were thinking about exiting the Obama Care world after losing almost half a billion dollars on Obama Care policies. Ana Gupte, an analyst for Leerink Partners, told investors that she expected Unitedhealthcare and other insurers would leave the Obama Care market if they could not break even by the first half of 2016.

She said that she believes the Obama administration could make changes to the law. This opinion is especially funny since the Republicans, none of whom voted for the law, now control both houses of Congress so the chance of changes is absolutely zero.

2) Avik Roy, writing for Forbes on December 6, 2015, did a comprehensive review of where Obama Care is today:
  • The Obama administration’s Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) recently released its official estimates of the uninsured population and of health spending in the U.S.
  • In 2014, Obama Care’s expected expansion fell millions and millions of people short of enrollment goals.
  • Despite its goal of reducing healthcare costs in the country, it drove health care costs higher by the highest rate in 7 years.
  • The legislation has reduced the number of uninsured Americans by only 2.7 percentage points.
  • Back in 2010, the law was expected to have enrolled 19 million uninsured Americans into Obama Care policies by 2014 and 30 uninsured million by 2016.
  • However, in late 2105, CMS admitted that from 2010 to 2014 the number of uninsured fell by only 12.6 million.
  • And Mr. Roy contends that 2010’s uninsured rate was artificially higher due to the Great Recession and if you use 2008 as the baseline prior to the effects of the recession, the number of uninsured Americans actually fell by only 6.7 million.
  • Thus, all of the agony of millions of people losing access to their current doctors, policies, and hospitals, all of the billions and billions of dollars spent on setting up Obama Care processes, co-ops, exchanges, and bureaucracies, all of the taxes and fees that have stunted economic growth in this country, all of that has reduced the percentage of Americans without insurance by only 2.7% and has left all of the root causes of ever rising healthcare costs intact.
  • This meager improvement in the uninsured rate is far smaller than expected and promised by Obama.
  • And as premiums and deductibles and co-pays go up and insurance companies actually leave the Obama Care world, the pipe dream of getting to 30 million enrollees gets more and more unlikely.
  • A set of economists and statisticians at CMS recently stated in the “Health Affairs” publication that the country’s 2014 spending on healthcare grew at an annual rate of 5.3%, the highest rate since 2007.
  • These economists and statisticians attributed the accelerating cost of healthcare to, wait for it, the passage of Obama Care: “The return to faster growth was largely influenced by the coverage expansions of the Affordable Care Act.”
  • In other words, this is another Washington effort that actually did the exact opposite of what it was supposed to do, rather than reduce rising costs it contributed to the acceleration of rising costs according to people actually in the Obama administration.
  • Even more distressing was that the accelerated spending in healthcare costs was especially high within the Medicaid program, going up 11.0%. Since Medicaid expansion is a major component of Obama Care, an 11.0% annual increase is a major factor why Obama Care is directly responsible for the overall increase in the nation’s healthcare cost increases.
If we go by the numbers, as Mr. Roy did, there can be no doubt that Obama Care is a failure across the board relative to its original goals. It did NOT reduce healthcare costs, it appears to possibly even accelerated their rise and it did not come close to hitting its expected enrollment goals, missing those goals by millions of enrollees.

3)We will finish today’s post as we have done many other times when discussing Obama Care with some real life stories of how this law has negatively affected real Americans and their families. These examples come from the website, www.ourhealthcarestories.com which has compiled some of these heartbreaking stories of real Americans being forced to adjust their lives due to the stress that Obama Care put on them:

GRETA - WYOMING: Sen Enzi: In Wyoming alone, there are over 2,600 people who are losing health care coverage they like. I have received numerous letters from my constituents illustrating the scope of this problem. Greta from Laramie is one of them. Greta is in graduate school and paying for tuition out-of-pocket. She had the university's student BlueCross BlueShield insurance plan. In September, her husband and two daughters received notice that their family insurance policy was gone. They were happy with their coverage. Greta said their plan had very good coverage of maternity and well-child visits, low deductibles, and an affordable monthly premium. Her family can't afford a new health insurance plan which, according to her, ``costs more and gives me less.'' That is what we are facing as a Nation: Health care plans we can no longer keep and broken promises from the White House.

ROSE - PENNSYLVANIA: I can not believe what has happened to my health insurance at work. Last year it cost me about 85.00 a month with 80% coverage. This year it doubled! I now pay 171.00 and for less coverage, as with a very high deductible! When I went to the Doctors just recently, they paid only 0.896 cents. Last year they covered the cost at 80%, so I do not know how they calculate or what my deductible is! I have to get blood work done, sure it will cost a lot more this year! When I called my benefits office they claim it's because of the new laws. Tried to cancel my insurance due to the fact I can not afford to pay them, and they claim company policy I can not unless I have a different insurance or leave the job. Why shouldn't I be able to get rid of something I can not afford?

KYLE - ARKANSAS: My plan was not cancelled, it was transitioned to meet the new ACA requirements. The same plan that I had before, now costs me $70 more a paycheck. I have a family of 4, including 2 kids. I went from $204 a paycheck to $274 a paycheck. I get paid 2 times a month so that's $140 a month or $1,680 a year. That's money that would have been spent in the local community on buying goods and services. This figure does not include the slightly increased co pays when I go to the dr or the additional costs for prescriptions. I thought the ACA was going to save me $2,500 a year?

That will do it for today. High costs, lower enrollment, unkept promises, and family heartaches. Sounds about right for the unfolding disaster that is Obama Care. More disasters tomorrow.
