It’s a new month and it is time to check in on the American political class and see what nonsense, idiocy, and other shenanigans they are up to:
1)We often report on how many local and state politicians are failing in their basic responsibility to protect the lives and property of the voters they represent. Nowhere has this failure been so prevalent than in the state of California and the city of San Francisco. Higher and higher crime rates and the resultant lowering of the quality of life.
San Francisco has been especially good at forfeiting the rights, lives, and quality of life of its residents to support the homeless and criminal elements in the city. But finally, it seems that the local business owners are finally demanding that the city politicians do their jobs:
These business owners have threatened to stop paying city taxes until the local government removes the homeless folks, homeless encampments, and the resultant trash around their business establishments in addition to increasing the police presence in the area.
Specifically, according to Fox News: “The Castro Merchants Association, which represents 125 businesses, sent a letter to city officials earlier this month outlining three demands: 35 shelter beds for “mentally ill and substance-abusing individuals who have taken up residence in the Castro,” monthly metrics on services offered to the homeless in the Castro and a devised plan following a homeless person’s refusal for services.”
Despite spending billions of taxpayer dollars on the various issues that are ticking off local businesses, that money has done nothing to alleviate the problems, because they do not have a decent plan to fix the problems.
A local business person summarizes the frustration: “If the city can’t provide the basic services for them to become a successful business, then what are we paying for? Whatever they’re doing isn’t working. We’re just seeing constant vandalism, constant drug use in public, people passed out on the sidewalk, people having psychotic breakdowns, and it’s just not something a small-business owner should have to deal with.”
Another business person’s experience: “Every day we wake up and have to help people on the street. We have to clean up feces on the street. We have to clear our people from doorways, so we can open our businesses. It’s not fair.”
Another failure to protect the lives and property of the people they serve by the local political class, an all too often situation across the country at all levels of government.
2)As we have pointed out hundreds of times in this blog, the American political class often seem to be useless, clueless, idiotic, and unable to resolve any problem. This was recently illustrated again in, of course, California:
The governor of California recently boasted about a recent law that requires that by 2035 it be illegal to sell a new gas powered car in the state in response to the myth of manmade climate change.
Only new electric cars will be legal to be sold in the state by 2035.
Today the state of California is unable to generate enough electricity to serve the state’s homes and businesses, primarily because of the stupidity that the state politicians insist that much of the electricity used in the state come from unreliable solar and wind sources.
In the past couple of years this insistence on renewable power has resulted in rolling blackouts and brownouts BEFORE electric cars are prevalent in the state.
In a case of really really bad timing, shortly after the governor bragged about dooming gas power car sales in the state, the state government urged current electric car owners to NOT charge their electric vehicles over the Labor Day weekend because there was a very good possibility that the state’s electric grid would not be able to provide enough electricity for the demand that was expected because of the holiday weekend and above average temperatures.
The California Independent System Operator, which manages the power grid for about 80% of the state, issued a warning that said “extreme heat” would "likely strain the grid with increased energy demands, especially over the holiday weekend."
In addition: "Set thermostats to 78 degrees or higher, avoid using large appliances and charging electric vehicles, and turn off unnecessary lights."
The whole situation would be hilarious if not so serious. The state political class will shortly require that every Californian purchase a very, very expensive electric vehicle if they want a new car, a new car that will become increasingly more expensive to charge and use as electricity to feed the growing fleet of electric cars becomes even more expensive, a growing fleet that will cause more and more blackouts and brownouts since there is no apparent plan to fortify and grow the current state electric grid, which will make life for every California more unpredictable, expensive and inconvenient.
You could not have come up with a dumber plan if you tried. The current grid cannot serve the voters in California. Start adding millions and millions of electric cars to that grid and nothing but disaster will happen. As expected from the American political class.
3)Biden came into office by promising that he would bring “unity” to the country. And almost immediately that promise went out the window in so many ways that we will not review here.
But in a despicable and disgusting comment he recently threw out in the world, attacking a Constitutional right, the Second Amendment, he threatened to use Air Force F-15 jet fighters against any American that dared to exercise or defend their Second Amendment rights as promised in the Constitution:
In a recent speech in Pennsylvania, Biden sarcastically warned “brave right-wing Americans” who support the Second Amendment.
Specifically he said that Second Amendment supporters would “need something a little more than a gun” to fight the United States, giving the example of the government using an F-15 fighter as a response to Constitution supporters.
Biden usually just espouses gibberish but this is the first time in the history of the United States that a President threatened to attack peaceful Americans with U.S. military weapons who have a different opinion than the President, Americans who are simply exercising their Constitutional rights. This is a really, really scary development in the history of our democracy, the threat of using military force inside the country to resolve a political issue.
4)The country is facing a load of really, really nasty problems:
At any point in time, there are about 500,000 to 600,000 homeless Americans living on the streets.
Millions of Americans face hunger and food problems on a daily basis.
Over 100,000 Americans die every year from drug overdoses and that number is rising steadily.
Inflation is at 40 year highs and forcing middle and lower class families to suffer serious financial hardships.
Crime and violence is rampaging across the country, especially in big, Democratic Party controlled cities.
People and businesses are leaving high tax, high crime states like New York to find better lives in lower taxed and lower crime rate states.
But rather than address and try to resolve these major, major issues and challenges, American politicians address trivial and stupid issues because they have no clue on how fix the major issues.
The New York state political class recently spend time and resources to come up with some really useless pieces of legislation, useless in comparison to the real issues listed above:
The first piece of legislation requires that the word “inmate” not be used anymore to describe convicted criminals that are in state prisons and jails.
The new word that has to be used is “incarcerated person.”
According to a state government politician, Gustavo Rivera: “For too long, we as a society have thought of incarcerated individuals as less than people. The use of the word ‘inmate’ further dehumanizes and demoralizes them.”
No, we did not think of them as less than people, they are convicted criminal inmates in prison, pretty straight forward…except for politicians.
But the politicians’ insanity in the state did not stop with useless word games.
In another piece of stupid legislation, New York state politicians passed a law that would ban the sale of whipped cream, that comes in pressurized cans, to individuals under the age of 21 years of age.
Apparently, these cans contain nitrous oxide, i.e. laughing gas, which some kids inhale to get high.
Specifically, the law states: “For purposes of this section, the term ‘whipped cream charger’ shall mean a steel cylinder or cartridge filled with nitrous oxide (N2O) that is used as a whipping agent in a whipped cream dispenser…No person, corporation, partnership, limited liability company, firm or any other business entity doing business within this state shall sell or offer for sale a whipped cream charger to any person under the age of twenty-one.”
Violations of the law could result in hundreds of dollars in fines.
According to state politician Joseph Addabo: “Nitrous oxide is a legal chemical for legitimate professional use, but when used improperly, it can be extremely lethal. Sadly, young people buy and inhale this gas to get ‘high’ because they mistakenly believe it is a ‘safe’ substance. This law will eliminate easy access to this dangerous substance for our youth."
I am sure that some kids in New York are getting high with laughing gas. I am sure that some “inmates” got their feelings hurt because of their status as convicted criminals and being called inmates. But seriously! New York state and New York City are suffering through a violent crime wave of violence and murders. Fentanyl pills are flooding over the border and killing more and more Americans and New Yorkers. People are fleeing the city and state for areas that are safer for their businesses and families and enjoy lower taxes and more freedom. New York City subways are becoming criminal cesspools. The homelessness problem is getting worse every day.
Horrible, horrible priorities by politicians that cannot resolve the big problems but focus their time and taxpayer resources on stupidity like changing word descriptors and banning laughing gas in the form of whipped cream containers.
That will do it for today’s insanity: bad, bad priorities in New York, Biden threatens an air strike on American citizens, and California is just a mess, courtesy of its clueless political class.
