January, 2018, Part 2, I Am A Global Warming Doubter and A Believer In Science: Stupid Grandstanding by NYC Mayor and Why The Paris Climate Accords Are Doomed

Every month we have enough material to return to a continuing theme in this blog, namely that “I am a global warming doubter AND a believer in science.” This became of interest because of people like Al Gore who fanatically and verbosely claimed that you had to be an idiot to not believe in manmade global warming. It has been my life belief that anyone that is that loud and that obnoxious is hiding something, that rather than argue facts and reality it is better to beat down and insult anyone who disagrees.

As we have dove into the whole issue of manmade global warming, or its new rebranded title of climate change, we found that Al Gore and people like him were guilty of a number of things:
  • Ignoring science and realities that did not support their opinions and positions.
  • Rather than have an adult conversation about climate, these types of advocates like Gore sank to the level of insulting those who dared look at ALL science by calling them a variety of names including racists, homophobes, terrorists, flat earth believers, and other slanderous names.
  • Continuing to insist that politicians step up their intrusions into our lives with higher taxes, more regulations, and more control of our freedoms and standards of living based on a shaky theory at best.
To see the past posts and the multitude of evidence that we have compiled that showed it is perfectly okay to be a global warming doubter and a believer in science, enter the phrase "global warming doubter” in the search box above or go through the monthly historical posts listed on the right side of this page.

Thus, let’s see the latest facts and science that prove you can be a global warming doubter and a believer in science, regardless of what Al Gore proclaims.

1) As readers of this blog know, we have had serious doubts about the whole global warming/climate change myth for a while. Every forecast that global warming advocates have put forth over the past two decades has been grossly wrong, embarrassingly wrong. And yet, these people still insist that they know what they are talking about despite this pitiful track record.

Given this background of failure, let’s go over to New York City and its socialist mayor, Bill de Blasio. While reading the following, keep in mind that NYC has many of the same problems plaguing the rest of the country’s cities: crime, failing schools, homelessness, crumbling infrastructure, drug addiction, etc. And yet, according to a recent article on the Eagle Rising website:
  • de Blasio announced that his city was going to sue five big oil companies for their alleged part in global warming.
  • Yes, rather than working and dedicating his life to fixing what affects millions of NYC citizens TODAY, he is wasting time and effort on a myth that even if true would not likely affect today’s citizens ever.
  • In addition, he ordered the city’s pension funds to not invest any money from the pension fund in oil company stocks, possibly limiting the potential return for the retirees of city government, hurting their future financial well being.
  • Here is his insanity: “New York City is standing up for future generations by becoming the first major U.S. city to divest our pension funds from fossil fuels. At the same time, we’re bringing the fight against climate change straight to the fossil fuel companies that knew about its effects and intentionally misled the public to protect their profits. As climate change continues to worsen, it’s up to the fossil fuel companies whose greed put us in this position to shoulder the cost of making New York safer and more resilient.”
  • He claims that when he wins his case the oil company penalties will be used to protect the city’s infrastructure from climate change.
If de Blasio really wanted to make a brave statement what he should do is not allow those oil companies to have a presence in the city. That would show them and really show the world that NYC is serious about fighting those greedy oil companies. Cut off their revenue source. No gas, no heating oil, no natural gas, that will show the world how the mayor is “standing up for future generations.”

Of course he is not going to do this, too gutless. He needs the oil companies to run his city fleets and keep its citizens warm in the winter. This is just another ego feeding, petty, and stupid grandstanding by a politician that would rather get his name in the paper associated with a likely myth than serve his constituents. Pathetic leadership.

2) Before Obama left office, he saddled this country with something called the Paris Climate Accords, an international agreement that was supposed to save the world from manmade global warming/climate change. There were three big problems with this accord:
  • Even Al Gore admitted that the accord would do nothing on its own to stop manmade global warming, assuming manmade global warming is even a reality. Thus, why have an agreement to stop something when that agreement will do nothing to stop that something?
  • The United States and its taxpayers would be making most of the sacrifices and paying out billions of dollars visa a blackmail/extortion scheme to other countries in the hope that the dictators in those countries would actually use that blackmail money to reduce their country’s carbon footprint. Not likely.
  • And finally, is manmade global warming, climate change even a reality?
Once Trump became President he withdrew the United States from the accords for the three reasons listed above, not wanting to throw good taxpayer dollars at dictators around the world and at a problem or disadvantage the United States relative to the economies of China and India. Those countries got off pretty free of short term needs to curb their carbon footprint and economies.

Of course, Trump got crucified by global warming advocates even though he pulled us out of an agreement that even they/Al Gore admitted would do NOTHING to curb rising temperatures, something that has basically not happened in almost twenty years. But according to a recent article by Nicolas Loris, writing for the Heritage Foundation on January 11, 2018, maybe Trump was just ahead of his time:
  • Germany, a country that did agree to the Paris climate accords, has decided that it will not meets its 2020 climate target as set out in the accords.
  • Germany was supposed to cut its greenhouse gas emissions by 40% below 1990 levels by the year 2020.
  • However, late last year a secret government document got out from the country’s Environmental Ministry saying that the country would miss that mark by 8% despite generous subsidies to foster green, renewable power sources.
  • The Ministry lamented that missing the targets would be “a disaster for Germany’s international reputation as a climate leader.”
  • This shows how weak the accords were since there will be no penalty for Germany missing its 2020 target.
  • But Germany is not alone since according to a 2017 article from Nature.com, the entire European Union “faces a big gap between words and actions.”
  • In other words, the accords are falling apart, at least from a European perspective within just a few short years after they were agreed to.
So possibly Trump was right in pulling us out of the accords since many developed countries are already out of alignment with what they were supposed to do, indicating that this was a stupid set of accords to agree to in the first place.

But it is not the developed countries that are the real problem with the accords since. There is general agreement that even if the developed countries hit their targets, which it appears they will not do, that would not be enough to stave off climate disaster unless the developing countries, mostly India and China, control their ever growing carbon footprints. Consider what the Financial Times recently reported: “Between January 2014 and September 2017, international banks channeled $630 [billion] to the top 120 companies planning to build new coal plants around the world, according to research by campaign groups, including the Rainforest Action Network, BankTrack, and Friends of the Earth.”

You can be sure that each of those 120 companies is not building only one coal plant, they are likely building hundreds if not thousands of coal plants which is legal and proper according to the stupid Paris accords. So if we had stayed in the accords, we/the American taxpayer would have been paying ransom to the rest of the world, the rest of the world would either be unable (e.g. Germany) to help reduce carbon output or would not be required to reduce their carbon footprint (e.g.China and India) and the climate would be no better off. Americans would just be poorer.

More global warming insanity to follow.
