August, 2021, Part 3, Political Class Insanity: Wasting Taxpayer Money In Mexico, More Violence in Chicago, and Seattle Police Force Continues To Shrink

Before we get to today’s insanity, please consider the following proposition: as many of you know, the withdrawal from Afghanistan has been a historic and fatal endeavor. But the failure did not start just in the past few weeks, it has been a twenty year disaster. It has cost American taxpayers about a trillion dollars, has left thousands of our brave armed forces folks dead, maimed, or wounded and has resulted in an unknown but substantial number of civilian deaths.

Afghanistan has been a collective failure of multiple Presidential administrations and multiple sessions of Congress. Thus, please consider signing the petition below that calls for the immediate resignation of every member of Congress that has at least twenty years of service and the resignation of President Biden, Vice President Harris, and critical, and failed, members of the Biden Administration. They do not deserve to serve any longer given their miserable twenty year track record of death, destruction and waste in Afghanistan.

Also, if you are passionate about this topic and effort, feel free to pass the link along to others who might also feel the same way, i.e. incompetence should not be rewarded:

Biden and others need to resign for dereliction of duty, incompetence and total lack of empathy. Nothing short of resignation is acceptable. Thank you.

It is the beginning of another month which means it is time again to review the latest political class insanity from the American political class. Each month it takes us multiple posts to cover the wasteful spending, incompetent government organizations and employees, government programs that usually make a problem worse than resolving it, inane and idiotic politician comments, etc.

To review past posts on this insanity and idiocy, just click on the first few posts in each month listed to the right of this page. After reviewing just a handful of these insanity posts we think you will agree that we are currently being served by the worst set of American politicians ever to hold office in our entire history

1) Consider the plight of many Americans today:
  • At any one time there are usually between 500,000 and 600,000 homeless Americans living on the street across the country.
  • Every day millions of Americans are in danger of not having enough food to eat.
  • Every day millions of Americans are fighting some sort of addiction, which last year ended up killing over 90,000 Americans.
Now consider what Washington is spending our tax dollars on:
  • The Federal government is sending $10 million of our tax dollars down to Mexico to “improve gender equality in the workplace” in Mexico.
  • Yes, Americans are homeless, hungry and fighting addiction and some politicians in Washington think that gender equality in Mexico is more important.
  • The $10 million is supposed to fund programs, in Mexico, that increase the number of women in union leadership roles, address discrimination and harassment in the Mexican workplace, and strengthen protections in the workplace.
  • Specifically, “Gender equity refers to fairness in the treatment of women and men,” according to the grant that is receiving the $10 million to be spent in Mexico.
  • The $10 million will flow through the Bureau of International Labor Affairs, which is part of the Department of Labor.
  • Things to be done with the money include establishing a union commission for equality in Mexico, conduct a report on gender equality and representation issues within unions and workplaces, draft a proposal for eliminating violence and harassment among union leadership, and support organizing efforts of workers around gender equity initiatives, implement work-life balance policies that impact women and training unions, teach workers how to gather evidence and report gender discrimination, and report violence and harassment to union leadership, employers, and government authorities.
Such horrible, horrible priorities and such a waste of money in a foreign country, Mexico. Four things come to mind immediately on how stupid this is:
  • Americans are hungry, homeless and fighting addiction and that $10 million would go a long way to helping those Americans in need.
  • If you are going to waste $10 million on something as soft, useless, and nebulous as gender equality, why would you not work on that issue in the American economy and not the Mexican economy?
  • And beyond the wasteful spending of $10 million, how much do we annually waste funding such idiocy as the “Bureau on International Labor Affairs?
  • Which politician’s family member, friend, or campaign donor is going to get the benefit of this stupid program to the tune of $10 million because you know somebody who knows someone in Washington is going to make a killing at taxpayer expense.
More out of touch American politicians.

2) Far too many times we have discussed the principle that a very, very basic function of government at any level is to protect the lives and property of the people it serves. It does not matter how good the government is at other things, if it cannot protect lives and property then it is a failure.

Unfortunately, we have discussed this principle relative to the carnage in Chicago way too many times and how current and past city politicians have failed miserably at protecting lives and property. And that failure gets larger and larger every day:
  • The shooting and carnage continued over Labor Day weekend in Chicago where eight kids got shot and one died from gunshots.
  • In just 12 hours from Saturday night through Sunday morning, six Chicago kids were shot.
  • The year-to-date total of kids being shot in Chicago to 280, of which 35 died from their wounds.
  • One of the kids who died over Labor Day weekend was a four year old who was just hanging out inside a home when bullets came through the window and killed him.
  • The motive behind this shooting is unknown but it is being assumed that the four year old was the victim of a stray bullet and not the intended target.
  • Chicago is on track to set a 25 year old record for city murders in a single year.
  • And as always, the current mayor, Lori Lightfoot, and the rest of the local political class have no plan, no idea, and no strategy on how to carry out a basic function of government, protecting lives and property.
What a tragic, fatal mess.

3) Seattle police have had a rough going lately, being the victim of a defunding of the police department movement and non-support from local politicians who catered to lawless elements like Black Lives Matter and Antifa. As a result, morale is down and the attractiveness for working for the force is not as high, especially when the politicians in charge belittle and castigate police officers in public.

This has resulted in staffing problems for many city police forces as more and more officers walk away from the job and more and more people hesitate about careers in law enforcement. And the situation is about to get worse in Seattle because of more politicians’ overreach actions:
  • It is estimated that the force may shrink by another 200 officers because of their personal objections to the government mandate that they get vaccinated or provide their medical records to the city government authorities.
  • If that number is realized then the city police force would immediately be reduced by about 20%, something that would delight local criminals.
  • Both the governor and city mayor have dictated terms that require all government workers to get vaccinated by October 18th or face employment termination.
  • The Seattle Police Officers Guild said that the mayor did not even discuss the matter with the police ahead of time and what the consequence might be to a law enforcement agency that is already understaffed: “Given this crisis, which in part resulted in an alarming crime wave, can Seattle now endure more losses of police officers due to Mayor Durkan’s vaccination order?” the union said in an Aug. 9 statement.
Typical politician thinking process: Ready, Fire, Aim! These folks never think through the consequences of their actions and in this case, a smaller law enforcement presence in the city, there is a good chance the crime and the fatalities associated with the increased crime will go up because of poor planning on their part.

And whatever very small amount of lives might have theoretically been saved from insisting every officer get vaccinated is surely going to be lower than the amount of fatalities from an understaffed police force and the resultant increase in crime and violence.

That will do it for today: a hasty, and possibly fatal, political decision in Seattle, fatal inaction by politicians in Chicago, and a tremendous and idiotic waste of taxpayer money in Mexico.
