On a periodic basis we do some posts that fall under the theme of “by the numbers.” Rather than trust what the American political tells us about reality, we like to examine the real numbers and the real reality in the world to understand what is actually going on. Relying on politicians, and their cohorts in the media, to tell us what is reality is always a sucker bet. They have their own agendas and goals, usually centering around their needs and self-enrichment. So we need to look at the reality of the numbers to determine what is really going on.
Previous analyses of “by the numbers” can be accessed by entering the phrase in the search box above. This is the third and final post this month where we look at the numbers to truly find out how good, not likely, or bad, most likely, the American political class is doing in managing our tax dollars, protecting our freedoms, and resolving major issues that affect all of us.
1)Far too many times we have discussed the seemingly endless number of ways the American political class and the government operations they oversea can lose, waste, and destroy taxpayer wealth. In our previous post, we discussed the reality that a number of organizations within the State Department were so incompetent that they sent hundreds of millions of dollars to the Taliban in Afghanistan.
But hundreds of millions of dollars, while a total waste of taxpayer funds, is a drop in the bucket to what the Social Security Administration (SSA) did with much more taxpayer wealth:
The inspector general’s office of the Social Security Administration had recommended many, many recommendations that should have been implemented to prevent fraud in the SSA.
But apparently the SSA did not implement many of the recommendations.
Between 2015 and 2022 apparently almost $72 billion in improper payments were made by the SSA, the majority of which were overpayments to undeserving recipients.
And it does not look like the SSA will improve its performance any time soon: “Improper payments have been a longstanding challenge for SSA. While the Agency has taken actions to address this challenge, it needs to do more, and OIG’s recommendations can guide the Agency as it determines those corrective actions,” said Michelle L. Anderson, Assistant Inspector General for Audit and Acting Inspector General. “Without better access to data, increased automation, systems modernization, and policy or legislative changes, improper payments will continue to be a major challenge for SSA into the future.”
And yet rather than fix a malfunctioning government agency, the wasteful spending just keeps on going with politicians more than willing to raise taxes to fund the waste but not willing, or intelligent enough, to ensure the waste ever gets resolved.
2)It is sometimes difficult trying to figure out what has been Biden’s biggest failures as President since those failures are so numerous: illegal immigration, foreign affairs, economy, inflation, etc. But today let’s focus on how his failed economic policies are having seriously bad consequences across the entire country:
In a recent opinion poll by LiveCareer, a whopping 82% of Americnas are considering delaying retirement due to financial reasons.
92% are worried they will have to work longer than they would like.
64% said the thought of retirement is more frightening than getting divorce.
61% fear retirement more than death.
82% say high inflation has significantly curtailed their ability to save for retirement.
72% said they plan on working after retirement to make ends meet.
Only 42% feel they are on track to save what they will need in retirement.
According to Jasmine Ascalera of LiveCareer: “Our survey reveals that financial stability is a primary concern among participants, with many fearing they won’t be able to afford to retire and that they might become a financial burden to their loved ones.”
39% are worried they will be a financial burden to their families.
59% are worried about being able to pay for long term care and 45% fear they will not be able to maintain their standard of living in retirement.
Obviously, Biden’s failed economy policies and plans have created hardships across the lives of the vast majority of Americans and appear to be having long term negative impacts on Americans approaching retirement, a reality that looks to be getting later and later and much more stressful
3)But while the numbers from Biden's failed economic policies have had far reaching negative impacts, his failed border security and illegal immigrant policies have also been very costly from a financial perspective for all Americans:
According to a recent analysis and report by the Federal for Immigration Reform, American Immigration Reform, American taxpayers spend about $150,000,000,000 a year to support, feed, house, and provide medical care to illegal immigrants..
This was spread over the approximate 20 million illegal immigrants in the country, with over 10 million of them entering the country since Biden became President.
Total annual spending was found to be $182,000,000,000 but that cost is offset by about $32,000,000,000 in tax revenue gathered from illegal immigrant workers.
Certain states are paying more than average to support their illegal immigrant populations, and their “sanctuary city” and "sanctuary city” ethos.
It is estimated that Massachusetts taxpayers are spending $3 billion to cover their illegal immigrant costs, the New York comptroller's office estimates that illegal immigrants in that state will cost $4.5 billion through 2025, and California, not surprisingly, spent the most, $31 billion.
So according to this analysis, for every dollar collected in taxes by illegal immigrants, taxpayers pay out $5 to support their life needs, not a healthy long term ratio. Given that about 160 million Americans file Federal income tax every year, theoretically each American taxpayer would have saved over $900 a year in taxes if there was no need to support the millions and millions of illegal immigrants in this country.
4)A recent poll by YouGov pointed out what is most worrisome to voters as we approach the election, concerns that line up pretty well with Biden’s failures:
Inflation continues to be the biggest concern with 67% of poll respondents saying that is a major worry in their lives.
This is up from 64% two years ago.
Homelessness and debt were tied for the second most worrisome issues, both coming in at 59%.
53% of those polled said that illegal immigration is a big worry which is up from 43% in 2022, a worry that is likely to continue to drive upwards.
Inflation, illegal immigration, debt and homelessness all of which worry over half of Americans, the very issues that Biden has failed so miserably at, the numbers do not lie.
Enough numbers for today: Americans are worried, illegal immigration costs billions of dollars, Americans’ retirements are in danger, and Social Security continues to waste money.
