The Horrors And Destruction That Donald Trump Has Imposed On America...Just Kidding! A Two Year Review Of The Trump Administration

Before we start today’s discussion, let’s review my voting history:
  • I have never voted for a Republican for President in my life.
  • Thus, I did not vote for Trump.
  • I have rarely voted for a Republican for national office in my life.
About 2 years ago, many liberals, Democrats, and millennials were besides themselves with grief and fear because their pre-ordained queen, Hillary Clinton, was not elected President. Instead, Donald Trump was elected, an individual that these same people despised, hated, and feared, an individual they felt would endanger and possibly destroy the country and our democracy. For the past year and a half they fretted, worried and lashed out at anything or anyone that even remotely smelled of Donald Trump.

Given that Trump has been in office for almost two years, I thought, that as someone who did not vote for him, it would be a good idea to review the horror, trauma, and terrible things that Trump has subjected the country to in just eighteen month’s time. This is obviously a very sarcastic comment when you take an unbiased look at what has happened during the Trump Presidency.

The many previous posts we did on this topic identified over 200 good things that have happened to America and Americans since Trump became President and they can found by entering the phrase “the horrors and destruction” in the search box above.

Given we are coming up on Trump’s second year in office, I thought it would be a good idea to list out some of his many accomplishments that we have already listed in the previous 20 posts on the topic. As the previous paragraph points out, we have already named over 200 ways that American is better off today than it was two years ago when he took office. So in no particular order, consider the following improvements that have occurred in America under the Trump administration:
  1. The national unemployment rate has been running below 4% for most of the past two years, an 18 year low, with the unemployment rate incredibly below 2% in some areas of the country, an indication of a very strong economy.
  2. The unemployment rate for African-Americans is at or near the lowest level ever.
  3. Trump’s approval rating among African-Americans has doubled in the past two years.
  4. African American median income is at the highest level ever.
  5. The unemployment rate for Hispanic-Americans is at or near the lowest level ever.
  6. The unemployment rate for veterans is at the lowest level in 18 years.
  7. The unemployment level for disabled Americans is also at a record low level.
  8. Those older than 24 years old without a high school diploma have an unemployment rate of 5.4%, close to the lowest level ever.
  9. Trump’s approval rating among Hispanic-Americans has surged in the past two years.
  10. At the end of 2018, 156,945,000 Americans were employed, an all time high.
  11. Over four million jobs have been added to the economy since Trump was sworn in.
  12. Steel production in the U.S. is at its highest level since 2007.
  13. The unemployment rate for women is at or near the lowest level ever.
  14. Weekly unemployment benefit filings have decreased steadily over the past two years, recently hitting a 45 year low.
  15. Wages gains have been steady over the past two years after being stagnant or negative for most of the Obama administration.
  16. There are about a million more open jobs available across the country than there are unemployed Americans looking for jobs, a rare occurrence over history.
  17. Manufacturing job opportunities across the country are at their highest levels since 2000.
  18. Trump signed into law a major, and positive, criminal justice reform law that will cut back and soften the draconian criminal sentencing law enacted under Bill Clinton, a draconian law that unfairly targeted African-Americans over the past few decades.
  19. Trump and his daughter, Ivanka, advocated and got Congress to pass the WEEE legislation, the Women’s Entrepreneurship & Economic Empowerment Act, a law that promotes and focuses U.S. foreign aid on programs that support women and women-owned business.
  20. Food stamp enrollment levels have dropped by about 3.5 million people over the past year, with 47 out of 50 states reporting fewer food stamp residents this year than last year, due to the booming Trump economy and reforms that Trump has initiated to weed out recipients that do not deserve to be on the program.
  21. According to recent Rasmussen polling, Trump’s current approval rate is up to 48%, two percentage points higher than what Obama’s was at the same point in time in their respective Presidencies.
  22. Due to the Trump tax cuts, millions of Americans received one time substantial bonus from their companies who saw their Federal tax bill decrease.
  23. Due to the Trump tax cuts, U.S. companies have brought back $300 billion back to this country from overseas.
  24. Due to the Trump tax cuts, over one hundred million American taxpayers will pay less in Federal income taxes going forward.
  25. Due to the Trump tax cuts, over one hundred utility companies have slashed their electricity rates.
  26. Due to the Trump tax cuts, millions of Americans saw a rise in their hourly wage rate from their companies who saw their Federal tax bill decrease.
  27. Due to the Trump tax cuts, thousands of companies have invested their tax savings into growing their businesses, increasing job and economic opportunities across the country.
  28. Due to the Trump tax cuts, businesses have increased their charitable donations due to the decrease in their Federal tax bill.
  29. Contributions to charities hit an all time high in 2017, exceeding $400 billion for the first time ever, possibly due to Americans having more money in their pockets because of the Trump tax cuts.
  30. Trump eliminated about 1,500 unnecessary government regulations to spur investment and business growth and save the economy an estimated $89 billion in excessive regulation costs.
  31. The U.S. national carbon footprint has decreased substantially over the past few years while most other nations, especially China and India, have seen their carbon footprint increase.
  32. Trump withdrew us from the horrible Paris Climate Agreement which would have crippled the American economy and allowed other nations such as China to increase their carbon footprint unabated for at least the next decade.
  33. Trump withdrew us from Obama’s Iran Nuclear Weapons agreement, an agreement that rewarded Iran with relaxed sanctions and billions in physical cash while Iran did nothing to improve the lot of its people or reduce its terrorism efforts around the world.
  34. Trump made the most in roads of any President ever with North Korea in a continuing attempt to rein its nuclear program and while already reuniting the remains of Korean War U.S. soldiers missing in action with their families.
  35. Trump has begun to withdraw U.S. troops out of Syria, a hell hole on Earth that should not be part of any American military effort and which is hopefully a precursor to getting all U.S. troops out of the Middle East.
  36. Trump forced many NATO nations to finally fulfill their treaty requirements by increasing their defense budgets to be in line with their legal requirements.
  37. Trump moved the U.S. Israel embassy to Jerusalem, indicating strong support for Israel and a rebuttal to Islamic terrorists such as Hamas.
  38. Trump signed legislation to clean up the sea of floating plastic off the west coast while at the same promising to prod China and Japan to clean up their recycling efforts, pitiful current efforts which are the main cause of the floating mass of plastic in the Pacific Ocean.
  39. Trump has signed, new, better trade deals for America and American workers with Mexico, Canada, and the European Union.
  40. Trump is in serious negotiations with China to fix the broken trade imbalance with that country, already getting China to import American rice farmer crops for the first time ever.
  41. After increasing during the last two years of the Obama administration, the national murder rate is trending downwards during the early part of the Trump administration.
  42. The number of police officers killed in the line of duty in Trump’s first year fell to the second lowest level in at least 50 years.
  43. Trump signed legislation that eliminated the oppressive and tyrannical Obama Care requirement that all Americans MUST purchase health insurance if they did not want it, could not afford it, or did not need it.
  44. Trump signed the Right To Act legislation that allows over a million Americans to more easily try experimental drugs if other methods of treatment have not cured their dangerous afflictions.
  45. Trump reversed a silly Obama administration requirement that banned people from joining organizational health plans and negotiating for cheaper health insurance rates from insurance companies.
  46. Trump issued regulations that helped fast track generic drug approvals to more quickly get drugs into the market to help ailing Americans.
  47. The Trump administration will start a program to help states care for pregnant women who are using opioids and for their babies who are born dependent on the drugs, the Maternal Opioid Misuse program, or the "M-O-M model."
  48. Trump was able to get $6 billion money dedicated to fight the opioid epidemic in the country.
  49. The Trump administration has for for intent and purposes killed the Common Core education effort, a program that has cost so much money and done so much harm to education in this country.
  50. Christmas season retail sales were up a very robust 5.1% vs 2017 and online seasonal sales were up 26.4%, another great economic feat under Trump.
  51. Consumer, business, and general confidence in the country and the economy by any measurement is soaring under the Trump administration and its actions.
  52. Most major stock market indices are up over 20% since Trump took office.
Okay, let’s stop the list here, you get the idea. The previous posts under this topic found over 200 successes and good things since Trump took office. Higher wages, better job opportunities, higher economic growth, better approaches to health and drug addiction, stronger actions and respect in foreign affairs, reductions in government bureaucracy, hardly the disaster that liberals, Democrats, and Hillary Clinton predicted.

For those of you that have hated on Trump since day one, and given your obvious gross error in judgment relative to Trump given the well 200 accomplishments we have previously listed, let me ask that you to do us all a favor by implementing the following changes in your behavior and attitude:
  • Chill out, tamp down your TDS affliction. No matter how much you hate Trump on a sexist, personal basis, get over it. He is the legally and duly elected President, he will be around for a while so refocus your hatred on more constructive issues and matters. You will live a lot longer if you take your hatred out of your heart and soul and devote it to something positive.
  • I would really appreciate it if some of you would apologize to the Trump voters you have disrespected in some of the grossest terms possible over the past year. You have called millions of voters racists, ignorant, stupid, Nazis, KKK members, and other horrible names simply because you disagreed with their voting choice. No American should be called such disgusting names simply because they exercised their Constitutional rights to the best of their abilities. Plus, slandering over 60 million Americans is no way to unite the country and get it focused on the real issues facing us all.
  • More personally, I would like, no I am demanding, an apology from some of you for your slanderous and disgusting name calling because in doing so, you insulted and disrespected my sister, my family members, my friends, and my co-workers who simply voted their conscience. I will defend their right to vote anyway they wanted and will no put up with your childish and vicious venom and bile directed at them, very important people in my life.
  • And finally, I challenge you to read the following blog post, a post that shows quite clearly that it was hateful people like some of you and your silence during the Obama years that actually caused Trump to be elected. Thus, the people you hate for voting for Trump are actually looking back at you in the mirror:
https://loathemygovernment.blogspot.com/2016/03/how-american-liberals-and-washington.html

If you were silent in the dozens of instances listed in this post then you were responsible for the very thing you hate: a Trump Presidency. Or put another way, a so far successful and productive Trump Presidency. Over 200 accomplishments in two years is not too shabby despite many of you wanting both Trump and the country to fail.

This is obviously a very sarcastic comment when you take an unbiased look at what has happened during the Trump Presidency. The many previous posts we did on this topic identified over 180 good things that have happened to America and Americans since Trump became President can found by entering the phrase “the horrors and destruction” in the search box above.

Since the last “horrors and destruction” post some additional accomplishments and good tidings have occurred as a result of this Presidency:

- According to a recent Gallup poll, 54% of Americans rate economic conditions as good or excellent while only 12% view economic conditions as poor.

- 57% say the economy is getting better and only 34% say it is getting worse.

- These are the most optimistic findings since 2004.

- Trump’s approval is now higher than Obama’s was at the same time before the first term midterm elections for both, according to the latest NBC/Wall Street polling, 47% vs. 45%.

- The Trump administration saved the economy at least $23 billion in fiscal year 2018 by dumping 176 unnecessary government regulations.

- The Trump administration has enacted 65% fewer government regulations than the Obama administration and 51% fewer regulations than the Bush administration after 22 months in office.

- The Trump administration will start a program to help states care for pregnant women who are using opioids and for their babies who are born dependent on the drugs, the Maternal Opioid Misuse program, or the "M-O-M model."

Another 7 reasons to add to the previous 185 or so reasons why the first year and a half of the Trump Presidency has not wrought disaster on the country.

For those of you that have hated on Trump since day one, and given your obvious gross error in judgment relative to Trump, let me ask that you to do us all a favor by implementing the following changes in your behavior and attitude:

Open Letter To My Democratic Senator: Why Do Democrats Care More About Illegal Immigrants Than Needy Americans?

Before we get into this post, let’s review my voting record:
  • I have never voted for a Republican for President in my life and I am 65 years old.
  • Thus, I did not vote for Donald Trump.
  • I rarely have voted for a Republican for national office.
Given my voting history, consider the following letter that I recently sent to my incumbent Florida U.S. Senator, Democrat Bill Nelson, who is up for reelection this fall:

************************************

Senator Nelson:

I have never voted for a Republican for President in my life (I am 65). But in November I fully expect to vote for no Democrats across the board since it is pretty obvious that Democrats, yourself included, care more about illegal immigrants than you do about needy Americans.

Rather than help veterans get the healthcare they have been deprived of, you and Democrats care only about illegal immigrants. Over 300,000 veterans may have died because they could not get the healthcare they needed from the VA:

Rather than helping the many homeless Americans across the country you and the Democrats care only about illegal immigrants. Over 500,000 Americans are currently homeless and that number is growing steadily:

Rather than care about the thousands and thousands of Americans fighting an opioid addiction, you and the Democrats care only about illegal immigrants. Over 60,000 Americans die from drug addiction every year and over 40,000 of them overdose on opioids:

Rather than care about thousands of American kids who are in foster care, homeless, hungry, and subject to physical and mental abuse you and the Democrats care only about illegal immigrants. Four American kids die everyday from child abuse, over 1,400 a year, and 70% of them are under the age of three:

Are you getting the message? As a taxpayer, we have serious problems and deficiencies helping millions of Americans in dire need but you and the Democrats care only about a relative handful of illegal immigrants. I do not get it.

But hopefully you and other Democrats do get it in November in the form of unemployment status, you are all a disgrace to needy Americans. Senator, you personally have been present for all of the crises and unfulfilled needs affecting the American groups listed above, from American youngsters dying from abuse to veterans dying from neglect. You are part of the problem and no longer deserve to provide this disservice to this country’s neediest citizens.

The Horrors and Destruction that Donald Trump Has Imposed On America...Just Kidding!

Before we start today’s discussion, let’s review my voting history:
  • I have never voted for a Republican for President in my life.
  • Thus, I did not vote for Trump.
  • I have rarely voted for a Republican for national office in my life.
A year ago, many liberals, Democrats, and millenials were besides themselves with grief and fear because their pre-ordained queen, Hillary Clinton, was not elected President. Instead, Donald Trump was elected, an individual that these same people despised, hated, and feared, an individual they felt would endanger and possibly destroy the country and our democracy. For the past year they fretted, worried and lashed out at anything or anyone that even remotely smelled of Donald Trump.

Given that Trump has been in office for a year and we are at the end of that calendar year, I thought, that as someone who did not vote for him, it would be a good idea to review the horror, trauma, and terrible things that Trump has subjected the country to in just one short year:
  1. Oversaw two consecutive quarters of annualized economic growth over 3% in his first year, Obama had no more than two quarters over 3% in eight years.
  2. Generated repeated historic highs in all major stock market indices over the past year, likely enriching any American with individual stock holdings, mutual fund holdings, or a 401k or IRA account.
  3. Provided tax reduction legislation that will reduce the Federal income tax burden of well over a 100 million American taxpayers.
  4. Eliminated about 1,500 unnecessary government regulations to spur investment and business growth and save the economy an estimated $89 billion in excessive regulation costs.
  5. The national unemployment rate is at its lowest level since 2007, lower than at any time during Obama’s eight years.
  6. The national Hispanic unemployment rate is at its lowest level ever since the government started to measure it.
  7. The unemployment rate in the manufacturing sector is at its lowest rate in years.
  8. The weekly applications for unemployment benefits are almost at historical lows.
  9. Median household income is at a 7 year high.
  10. Existing home sales are at their highest level since January, 2006.
  11. Home prices rose a strong 6.2% in the past year.
  12. Confidence among U.S. homebuilders reached its highest level in December since July, 1999 according to data from the National Association of Home Builders.
  13. Consumer confidence is at its highest level since 2000, with the consumer confidence index at 125.6.
  14. Home mortgage applications are at a seven year high.
  15. Improving economic conditions resulted in a Christmas buying/spending season that was higher than it has been in almost ten years, rising almost 5% or $33 billion over 2016.
  16. AT&T announced that it would pass along their company income tax savings from Trump’s tax cut legislation to their employees in the form of a $1,000 bonus to each of its 200,000 nonmanagement employees in addition to investing $1 billion in the U.S. market in 2018.
  17. Comcast announced that it would pass along their company income tax savings from Trump’s tax cut legislation to their employees in the form of a $1,000 bonus to its frontline and non-executive employees and invest over $50 billion in the U.S. market in the next five years to improve and expand their broadband, theme park, television and film business divisions.
  18. Fifth Third bank announced that it would pass along their company income tax savings from Trump’s tax cut in the form of raising the minimum wage of its 3,000 hourly employees to $15 an hour in addition to paying a one time bonus of $1,000 to all of its 13,500 employees: “We want to invest in our most important asset – our people,” said CEO Greg Carmichael of Fifth Third Bank. He also said that the tax cut provided an opportunity to “reevaluate its compensation structure and share some of those benefits with its talented and dedicated workforce.”
  19. Wells Fargo announced that it would pass along their company income tax savings from Trump’s tax cut in the form of raising the minimum wage of their hourly employees to $15 an hour and spend $400 million on donations to community and non-profit organizations in 2018,
  20. Boeing announce that it would take its income tax savings from Trump’s tax cut by investing $300 million in the company’s employees and facilities and charitable donations “Each of these investments benefits Boeing’s most important strength – our employees – and reflects the real-time impact and economic benefit of the reforms,” said Boeing CEO Dennis Muilenburg. “The reforms enable us to better compete on the world stage and give us a stronger foundation for the investment in innovation, facilities and skills that will support our long-term growth.”
  21. Bob Parsons, the billionaire owner of YAM Worldwide, announced he will be passing tax savings from the Trump tax cut in the form of giving almost 600 of his employees with more than six months tenure a $2,000 bonus and those with less than six months bonus $1,000 bonus on top of currently planned bonuses: "The passage of the tax credit is a catalyst for explosive economic growth. On a massive scale, the lowered federal tax burden on businesses will increase investment, entrepreneurship and corporate philanthropy.I’ve always believed in sharing good news and have decided to celebrate the tax plan by giving back to my staff.”
  22. Other companies, including FedEx and CVS Health, have announced that they will also pass along their income tax savings from Trump’s tax cut in the form of employee compensation and just these two companies predicted their tax savings would enable them to together hire 4,000 more employees.
  23. Is currently reviewing and fixing all international trade regulations to ensure America gets a fair deal with other countries.
  24. Convinced China to begin the importation of U.S. grown beef.
  25. Implemented policies that have significantly reduced illegal immigration to the lowest level in 17 years.
  26. Convinced major companies like Exxon, Bayer, Apple, SoftBank, Toyota, etc. to domestically invest $78 billion.
  27. Renegotiated the F-35 fighter program contracts to save the American taxpayer $700 million.
  28. Reduced the White House staff budget by $22 million.
  29. Has ordered the head executive of each branch of government to come up with a plan to trim excessive bureaucracy and costs within their branch and to restructure their branch to improve its efficiency.
  30. Has kept average gasoline prices at their lowest levels in 12 years.
  31. Got the Keystone pipeline approved.
  32. Convinced NATO allies to pull their fair share of common defense expense, resulting in those allies increasing their defense spending by 4.3%.
  33. Allowed the Veterans Administration, a corrupt and ineffective and inefficient government agency, to more easily fire poorly performing employees.
  34. Allowed veterans to receive health care from non-government entities to improve the turnaround time for healthcare treatment of veterans.
  35. Gave NASA better and more definitive direction and strategies including giving it its first reauthorization in seven years, requiring it to create a plan with cost estimates to get a manned flight to Mars by 2023, requiring it to prioritize its own launch equipment over that of foreign countries, and analyze and prepare a report on the danger of an asteroid hit on Earth.
  36. Passed legislation that will result in the first overhaul of the nation’s weather forecasting system since the 1990s with $170 million authorized to improve weather and storm prediction, tracking, planning and disaster recovery.
  37. Passed legislation to impose a dozen different types of sanctions on Russia for its action in the Ukraine and Crimea.
  38. Passed the “Forever GI” legislation that expanded opportunities and relaxed restrictions on the funding available for former service people to get education benefits.
  39. Put a focus on combating the criminal enterprise known as MS-13 gangs, an illegal immigrant driven crime syndicate that has a presence in all 50 states.
  40. Pulled the country out of the ill defined, unbalanced, and unnecessary/useless Paris climate accord.
  41. Created a government commission to focus on combating child trafficking.
  42. Created a government commission to focus on combating rampant voter fraud.
  43. Created a government commission to focus on combating the country’s opioid addiction crisis.
  44. Created an office to support the victims of violence from illegal immigrant criminals.
  45. Recorded the second highest monthly government budget surplus in history in April, 2017.
  46. Signed An Executive Order To Promote Energy Independence and Economic Growth.
  47. Donated an entire paycheck to veterans’ causes and support.
  48. Recognized Jerusalem as Israel’s capital.
  49. Helped break the back of ISIS, the most horrible terrorist organization of all time, even getting recognition from the pro-liberal, anti-Trump New York Times: “...And for now, the Trump administration’s approach to the Middle East has been moderately successful, and indeed close to what I would have hoped for from a normal Republican president following a realist-internationalist course.”
  50. Launched a multi pronged diplomatic and economic strategy to address the growing and dangerous problem of a nuclear armed North Korea, a problem that Obama ignored for eight years with his lame “Strategic Patience” strategy.
  51. Reduced the United States financial commitment to the United Nations budget in order to force this bloated, inefficient, and ineffective organization to clean up its act and not continue to waste American taxpayer wealth.
  52. Attained an approval rating exactly equal to Obama’s rating at the same time in their first terms, as reported by Matt Drudge “Rasmussen Poll shows Trump at 46% APPROVE this morning, with 53% DISAPPROVE...What about Obama at same exact date first year in presidency?? 46% APPROVE, 53% disapprove.”
  53. And possibly Trump’s biggest accomplishment, he prevented a crime syndicate (aka the Clinton Foundation) queen and a defender, abettor, and condoner of a sexual predator and possible rapist (Bill Clinton) from becoming President.
[Note: a lot of these accomplishments were compiled by the Political Insider website with other sources adding to their original list.]

So for those of you that feared the end of the world with Trump’s election, here is a list of 53 accomplishments he has imposed on the country. Let’s be honest Trump haters, he has done a pretty good job in just the first twelve months of his term.

Given your gross error in judgement relative to Trump, let me ask that you to do us all a favor by implementing the following changes in your behavior and attitude:
  • Chill out, tamp down your TDS affliction. No matter how much you hate Trump on a sexist, personal basis, get over it. He is the legally and duly elected President, he will be around for a while so refocus your hatred on more constructive issues and matters. You will live a lot longer if you take your TDS hatred out of your heart and soul and devote it to something positive.

  • More personally, I would like, no I am demanding, a personal apology from some of you for your slanderous and disgusting name calling because in doing so, you insulted and disrespected my sister, my family members, my friends, and my co-workers who simply voted their conscience. I will defend their right to vote anyway they wanted and will no longer put up with your childish and vicious venom and bile directed at them, very important people in my life
  • And finally, I challenge some of you to read the following blog post, a post that shows quite clearly that it was hateful people like you and your silence over the past eight years that actually caused Trump to be elected.

October, 2017, Part 2, The Unfolding Disaster Of Obama Care: Bernie Sanders' Hypocrisy and Lies and Obama Care's Contribution To The Opioid Addiction Plague

Every month for years now we have had to discuss how bad Obama Care is turning out to be under the continuing theme, “the unfolding disaster that is Obama Care.” This month is no different. As the legislation continues to march through America, driving up health care and health insurance prices as it serves as dead weight on economic growth, it cements its rightful place as the worst piece of legislation Washington has ever produced.

It never had a chance to be successful since it really never addressed the underlying root causes of our ever increasing health costs in the country:
  • Americans eat too much of the wrong kind of food, resulting in obscenely high obesity rates for the country.
  • Our food chain is infested with overdoses of high fructose corn syrup, salt, sugar, and other unhealthy additives.
  • Americans smoke too much.
  • Americans do not exercise enough.
  • The country is in serious need of health care tort reform.
  • Barriers to insurance company competition across state lines need to come down.
  • Obama Care never “followed the money” to find out who is actually profiting from the ever escalating healthcare costs in this country and how to get those factors under control.
  • Obama Care never got the immense amount of fraud and abuse in current government healthcare programs, Medicare and Medicaid, under control in order to save money to efficiently fund other government health care initiatives.
  • Obama Care never put serious research money towards curing the major diseases that drive high healthcare costs such as high frequency cancers and dementia type diseases.
You cannot resolve any problem unless you understand and address the underlying root causes. No difference here: Obama Care legislation never addressed these listed root causes and thus, has no chance of ever being successful.

But it is not just missing the root causes of our healthcare costs that makes Obama Care so horrible. It resulted in millions of Americans losing access to their favored doctors, hospitals, and insurance policies. It has caused insurance premiums, deductibles and copays to escalate substantially. It will likely add trillions of dollars to the national debt. It has exposed millions of Americans to higher than necessary identity theft chances. It has created government bureaucracies that are wastefully spending taxpayer wealth and being exploited by criminal elements. It has stifled economic growth and job creation.

These are just a sample of the types of idiocy that we have been reviewing for the past several years in this blog relative to Obama Care. To read those past posts, just enter the phrase, “the unfolding disaster,” in the search box above.

1) Although Congressional Democrats and Obama were solely for the unfolding disasters of Obama Care, some of these same Democrats have what they think is a better idea now that Obama Care is failing faster and faster everyday. People like Senator Bernie Sanders want the U.S. to adopt the so-called single payer plan for health insurance for this country, a plan where the government and the politicians that operate it are in total control of your entire health care needs.

Never mind that this idea has failed miserably around the world when put into place, never mind that some states have already tried to implement it but stopped because of the outrageous cost, and never mind that the Federal government and the Washington political class have failed miserably at any kind of health care program they are in charge of: Medicaid, Medicare, Veterans Administration and Obama Care. Which makes one wonder why Bernie Sanders thinks that a single payer system administered by Washington is such a good idea.

Or does he think it is a good idea? Mike Vance, writing for the Think Americana website on September 14, 2017, actually found an old interview that Sanders gave a number of years ago when he asserted that a single payer system in this country is not possible since it would be too expensive. He explained why a single payer system, he called it “Medicaid For All,” would be so expensive that it would “bankrupt the country”: “One of the points that we understand and I think was reinforced when we went to Canada. Number one, you want to guarantee that all people have access to healthcare as you do in Canada. I think what we understand is that unless we change the funding system and the control mechanism in this country to do that. For example, if we expanded Medicaid [to] everybody. Give everybody a Medicaid card – we would be spending such an astronomical sum of money that, you know, we would bankrupt the nation.”

So a couple of years ago Sanders said a single payer system would bankrupt the country but today he thinks it is a great idea. Makes no sense. Preliminary estimates of his current single payer system is an astronomical $16 TRILLION over the first ten years. And you know that this number is far too low since everything Washington does costs far more in reality than when it is being proposed. Obama promised that Obama Care “would not add a single dime to the national debt” but the Congressional Budget Office estimate now says that it will add at least $1.2 TRILLION to the national debt.

$16 TRILLION over a decade or $1.6 TRILLION a year would increase the annual Federal budget by 40% overnight. The tax hikes needed to pay for this would be economically devastating, as Vermont and California found out when they priced out a single payer system for their states. And yet the two faced Sanders is still pushing it although he himself had previously concluded that it was a fiscally stupid idea. Plus, such a system would still not attack the root causes of our high and rising health care costs. Doubly stupid.

To see Sanders being stupid in his own words go to the following link:

2) There is a very bad drug addiction problem going on in America today and that is the large and growing addiction that many Americans have to opioid painkillers. Most estimates put the annual death toll from the addiction to almost 40,000 a year. Trump has begun to address the problem and even the Chairwoman of the Federal Reserve, Janet Yellen, has stated that so many people are addicted that it is dampening the nation’s economic growth.

Keep that thought in mind while we remind you that many, many times that when Washington addresses a problem they actually make it worse. Which may be the case here relative to the intersection of the growing opioid addiction and Obama Care. Consider an article from Allysia Finley, writing for the Wall Street Journal on September 25, 2017:
  • Medicaid is one of the biggest suppliers of opioid painkillers in the entire country.
  • Obama Care resulted in an additional 11 million Americans being signed onto the Medicaid rolls in many states.
  • Wisconsin Senator Ron Johnson recently pointed out a strong correlation between this Medicaid expansion and opioid overdoses.
  • His source of data: the Centers of Disease Control found that: “[opioid] overdose deaths per capita rose twice as much on average between 2013 and 2015 in states that expanded Medicaid than those that didn’t.”
  • As an example of two similar states, opioid deaths rose 205% in North Dakota which expanded Medicaid rolls vs. only an 18% rise in South Dakota which did not expand Medicaid.
  • Between 2013 and 2015, the opioid deaths in Ohio, which did expand Medicaid, went up 38% while the addiction in nearby Wisconsin, which did not expand Medicaid, went up only 2%.
  • According to the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality, Medicaid funded hospital stays for opioid addiction went up 40% between 2012 and 2014, four times the growth rate of Medicaid enrollment, while opioid addiction hospital stays for those covered by private insurance went up a tenth of that rate, only 4%.
  • The article points out similar trends in hospital visits of Medicaid patients, with hospital visits going up dramatically in states where Medicaid was expanded.
Now, while these are strong correlations, they might be causations. However, the realities behind Medicaid patients and the treatment they get would seem to point to causation:
  • Since many doctors across the country to not accept Medicaid patients, many times Medicaid patients go to the emergency room for pain control since they cannot get access to a doctor.
  • The overwhelmed emergency rooms want to relieve the pain so prescribing an opioid pain killer satisfies the short term problem of pain relief because of non-doctor access but sets up a patient for a longer term problem, addiction, since getting into see a Medicaid-friendly doctor or specialist might take months, if ever, to correctly fix the root cause of the pain problem.
  • A study found by Express Scripts Holding found that Medicaid patients are twice as likely to get prescribed opioids than non-Medicaid patients.
  • In the meantime, the Medicaid patient is still in pain, still looking for relief, and thus, an addiction is born since the root cause of the pain is not being treated.
Great, another government program that does the exact opposite of what it set out to do, resulting in possibly thousands of Americans dying every year from opioid addiction as a result of Obama Care’s foolish expansion of Medicaid. Medicaid was not designed for what Obama Care wanted it to do so this is really no surprise.

Add in Sanders’ about face on the single payer system, and it becomes clear that those in Washington still have no clue on how to fix our broken health care processes and costs. More disasters to follow in the coming days.

August, 2017, Part 4, Political Class Insanity: Criminal Politicians In Detroit, Economically Ignorant Politicians In Seattle, and Another Lost Battle Against Drug Addiction

It is the beginning of another month which means it is again time to review the latest political class insanity from Washington and around the world. Political class insanity takes many forms including the wasting of taxpayer wealth, criminal fraud within government programs, inane and stupid political quotes and actions, the inability to create and implement effective and efficient government programs, stupid and ill performing economic policies and strategies, and other forms of insanity that continue to evolve and surprise and shock us.

1) Those of you that follow politics and the antics of the American political class probably often think that the only people running for office or elected to office are criminals, given how greedy, unethical, and bribable they are. Turns out, at least in Detroit, you are correct, according to a recent Fox News report on August 4, 2017:
  • Apparently, half of the candidates running for mayor of Detroit of felony records in their background.
  • According to the Detroit News, three out of the eight candidates for mayor of Detroit have previously faced gun charges, with two of them having faced charges for assault to commit murder, and a fourth candidate pleaded guilty to a non-gun charge years ago.
  • The timing of these infractions date from the 1970s to more recent times.
  • Donna Marie Pitts, 58, has multiple felony convictions dating back to 1977: “I don’t hide it. God has brought me out. I hope [voters] don’t look at it as negative but as my experience, and I can help. I want to fight for them.”
  • Danetta Simpson was convicted in 1996 for assault with intent to murder.
  • Articia Bomer was charged in 2008 for carrying a concealed weapon.
  • Curtis Christopher Greene was charged with fourth-degree fleeing and eluding police during an attempted traffic stop, and a marijuana-related count.
Proving once again that there is a very thin line between being a criminal and being a politician!

2) We have often pointed out with real world examples how politicians usually have absolutely no economic training, economic common sense, or economic experience. As a result, their economic policies and laws usually make bad economic situations worse. Obama was great at making stupid economic policies and decisions including the failed Cash For Clunkers program, the failed Cash For Appliances program, the failed $800 billion economic stimulus program, the failed Dodd-Frank legislation, the failed solar energy subsidy program, etc.

So it should not be a surprise when we find out that when the local politicians decided they knew best on what people should be paid for their wages, their actions/antics resulted in the exact opposite economic impact that they wanted, according to a recent Forbes report by Anne Vandermey:
  • Local politicians in Seattle decided a few years ago that they would ramp up the local minimum wage level to $15 an hour because they knew best what a “living wage” should be.
  • The early results on their economic “wisdom” showed what a failure their program is.
  • A new study from the University of Washington that examined what happened to workers in local small businesses when the minimum wage level was raised found that on average workers received $125 LESS a month in wages than prior to the lifting of the minimum wage.
  • You ask how could this happen, how could raising the minimum wage actually LOWER wages?
  • Simple, some people got paid more by the small business population but others got fired outright since their employers could no longer to carry them on their payroll at a higher wage.
  • Thus, on average more people lost their wages altogether which wiped out the increased wages of those that were fortunate enough to keep their jobs, i.e. the good news is that you got a raise, the bad news your higher wage level results in you getting laid off and having no wages.
Another bone headed economic policy from bone headed, economically ignorant politicians.

3) Obama Care was supposed to make the country healthier. If you follow this blog, you know that every month for the past six or seven years we have pointed out the reality that Obama Care did not reduce healthcare costs like promised, did not reduce insurance premium and deductibles like promised, and failed in just about every other dimension that can be measured.

And while maybe not directly focused on reducing drug abuse, a massive healthcare cost that burdens the economy and healthcare infrastructure in this country, it almost certainly did not help to fix the drug addiction problem in this country. I am talking about the rampant abuse of opioid painkiller abuse presently going on.

According to data from Blue Cross, that was highlighted in a recent Forbes magazine article, the abuse of opioids jumped 493% from 2010 through the end of 2016. The rate of opioid use disorder jumped from 1.4 per 1,000 to 8.3 per 1,000 over that seven year timeframe while drug overdose deaths jumped 63% during that same period.

Thus, as we have pointed out numerous times, despite fighting a “war on drugs” since the Nixon administration, the American political class has never won a battle in that war. And the opioid addiction disaster is just another losing battle as no politician at any level of government has had the ability, the insight, intelligence, or willpower to figure out how to help Americans addicted to a variety of drugs, despite probably spending over a trillion dollars or so over the decades to fight this losing war.

That will do it for today’s insanity: politicians still losing the war on drugs, politicians still with no economic sense, and politicians that are actually crooks BEFORE getting elected. More insanity to follow.
