October, 2025, Part 1, Political Class Insanity: Another Failed Solar Project, More United Nations Failures, Corrupted Government Statistics, and A Small Drug Cartel Win

There is a lot going on in the world: Obama and Russiagate findings, Middle East powder keg, the Russian/Ukrainian war, Federal government shutdown, etc. But through all this, the American political class continues to constantly deliver its own special brand of insanity, stupidity, wasteful taxpayer spending, and ineffective government programs.

1)Democrats and liberals have been yelling at us for over thirty years relative to the myth of climate change/global warming. All of their hand wringing and yelling has turned  out to  be mythical: temperatures have not gone through  the roof, the  ice caps have not melted, coastal lands  have  not been  flooded  over, etc. In  fact, their global warming forecasts turned  out to be so wrong that they had to do a whole rebranding effort to evolve from global  warming  hysteria to climate change hysteria.

In many liberal parts of the country such as California, politicians went overboard and tried their hardest to get rid of traditional sources of energy and replace them with  renewable sources of energy. This has resulted in Californians having the highest energy and gas prices in the country as the climate change plans the politicians embarked on were not practical or cost efficient. They continued wasting money on climate change efforts despite the fact that the myths of  global  warming and climate change have been pretty clear to just about  everyone else.

The latest debacle of the state’s renewable energy push has recently come crashing down:

  • Eleven years ago, the state of  California spent $2.2 billion to build a huge solar energy plant.

  • Federal taxpayers donated $1.6 billion of the $2.2 billion cost.

  • Unfortunately, 11 years after being put into service  it is already being shut down because it never met the original promises of clean energy.

  • Beside not meeting expectations, the technology that was put in place  is  already deemed outdated.

  • Not  only did the power generated disappoint, but the  technology has been responsible for at least 6,000 bird deaths each year.

  • The technology used massive movable mirrors (over 173,000 of  them) to  focus the sun on  a central facility that resulted in tremendous heat, heat that was used to turn water into steam and to power steam turbines that produced the energy.

  • However, birds that flew into the focused sun rays immediately burned up.

  • Back in 2011 when  the project was proposed, Obama's Energy Secretary, Ernest Moniz called it “an example  of how America is becoming a world  leader in  solar energy.”

  • Obviously, he was wrong if the whole project is being shut down in just 11 years.

This was obviously a Rube Goldberg approach to solar energy:  spread out 173,000 mirrors  over acres and acres of ground, try to accurately focus the sun to bounce off of 173,000  moving mirrors as a day progressed and the sun moved across the sky, focus the reflections off  of a large steam generator. What could go wrong?

Let’s do  some simple  math: the project cost $2.2 billion:

  • A  rough estimate says that it costs about $22,000 to put solar panels on a typical American  home.

  • Thus, that $2.2 billion could have put solar panels on about 100,000 homes.

  • The typical warranty for home solar cell installations is at least 25 years, often more.

  • Putting this all together means that, in theory, that $2.2  billion could have  solar powered EVERY home in a city such as  Fort Lauderdale/Florida or Irving/Texas, or Little Rock/Arkansas for at least 25 years with simple  roof top solar panels  installations, a process that would  not kill 6,000 birds a year.

But rather than go simple and  effective, the politicians in the state and Washington  went grandiose, expensive and doomed to failure. The Washington  political class  cannot run a  postal  system effectively, they cannot run a "National  Do  Not Call” list effectively, they cannot operate within the  confines of the tax dollars they collect. What makes anyone think that they can  manage the climate and the technology they think is critical to the future of the planet?

2)Let’s face it, the United Nations has been almost a total  failure since its creation after World War II, failures that continue today:

  • Failure to end the Ukranian/Russian.

  • Failure to bring peace to the Middle East.

  • Failure to end  terrorism.

  • Failure to improve the lives of mankind.

The list goes on but the list of  notable  failures far outweighs the list of any type  of success. As a result, American taxpayers pay out big bucks every year to support the UN but get and see anything worthwhile in return for their investment:

  • A recent Gallup poll shows that a  lot of Americans hold a pessimistic view of the UN.

  • 63% of those polled perceive the UN’s performance as “poor.”

  • Only 32% believe it  is doing a “good” job.

  • 60% consider the UN as necessary but that number is trending downwards.

  • Republicans hold a much more pessimistic view of the  UN  than  Democrats.

The old saying says that the  definition of insanity is doing the same thing  over and  over and  expecting different results.  For 80 years the American taxpayer has basically underwritten the financial  viability of this organization that has no real accomplishments to speak of for over 80 years. And yet, the American taxpayer continues to pay for nothing.

3)We have talked many times about the many failures of  the Biden administration. The latest two conversations on this topic can be  accessed at:

https://loathemygovernment.blogspot.com/2025/08/the-ever-growing-list-of-biden-failures.html

https://loathemygovernment.blogspot.com/2025/08/the-ever-growing-list-of-biden-failures_24.html

To these lists we should add another failure and  corruption of the  governing process in Washington:

  • The Bureau of Labor Statistics in Washington issues monthly estimates of how many jobs the  economy has created the previous month.

  • This is a critical measurement  process since it is an important measurement of  the  health of the economy and how well Americans are doing financially from a job availability perspective.

  • Thus, timely accuracy is  critical for businesses  and residents to  make economic decisions.

  • Up until the Biden  administration, one rarely questioned the integrity of the estimates or how they were calculated, a  run of success  that ended  with  the Biden  administration.

  • It looks  like the Bureau of Labor Statistics artificially inflated the number of jobs  created by Biden’s  economic policies.

  • And the inflation was not a small number since the Bureau eventually reduced the estimated number of jobs created in the  country during  the Biden aera by a whopping 818,000 jobs.

  • Thus, it looked like the Biden economy was doing much better than  it actually was at the time  of  the estimates when in  reality the  estimates were inflated.

  • The Bureau eventually reduced their estimates much later by the 818,000 number mentioned above.

  • This was the largest downward revision in 15 years.

When the government manipulates numbers and  estimates for political purposes, everyone loses. People and businesses  make  decisions based on faulty data just because someone wants to improve their political careers. It  also brings  doubt into people’s mind that if this government  statistic is tainted, what other government  statistics are also  tainted.  A sad commentary on government integrity.

4)As a nasty, and a very often fatal aspect of Biden’s failed immigration policies, is the reality that Mexican drug cartels were able  to flood personnel and deadly drugs into the country, setting up operations around the country. This not only resulted in thousands of Americans dying from drug overdoses but the enrichment of the cartels,  making them even more of a violent threat to their enemies and future drug addicts.

However, there was some recent good news  in the effort to curb drug trafficking and the resultant overdose deaths:

  • A recent  successful operation by the Federal government and Trump administration resulted in the arrest of over 600 alleged cartel operatives across the  country.

  • Many of those arrested were associated with the Mexican Sinola drug cartel, a cartel that has  flooded the  country with fentanyl, meth, cocaine, and counterfeit pills.

  • The crackdown operation spanned five days and that short time the Feds uncovered over half a ton of fentanyl powder among other heavy volumes of other drugs.

  • Since two milligrams of fentanyl  is enough to kill a person, half a ton can theoretically kill millions of Americans.

  • And the arrests were not just at the southern border, they were throughout the country.

  • In Franklin,  New Hampshire, 27 people were arrested in connection with drug trafficking in that town.

  • In all  of New England, far from the southern border, 171 people were arrested, $1.3 million in cash was confiscated, and more than 22,000 fake pills were taken off of the street.

The good news  is that mega amounts of deadly drugs have been  taken off of the streets, some very bad people were arrested, and the cartel cash flow was at least temporarily curtailed. The bad  news is that the battle to protect Americans from all  types of illegal  drugs is still a big job that will  continue as long as there is a demand for the drugs in his country. Beating up the supply of illegal drugs is good but the real battle is won when the demand for those drugs dries up.

Enough for today: a small victory against the Mexican drug cartels, destroying government statistical integrity, the United Nations history of failures continues, and another solar energy project dies a premature death.

August, 2018, By The Numbers, Part 1: The Current Status of Numerical Lying By Our Politicians

On a semi-regular basis we do a post under the theme, “By The Numbers.” Under this theme we analysis the crazy ways that politicians use numbers, from making them up outright, to using them inappropriately, to using them to lie to us. The problem for them when they do that is it is so easy to show how either stupid they are or how conniving they are.

As an FYI, as you read my analysis of the misuse of numbers, keep in mind that I have a masters degree in statistics and for most of my life have been involved in analyzing numbers and stats. Politicians misuse of numbers and statistics is taken as a personal and professional affront to me and my profession.

1) Politifact bills itself as an unbiased research organization that analyzes statements and claims by politicians and then reads out whether those statements were correct, wrong or misleading. In reality, they are a left leaning, liberal leaning fact checking group that I have exposed any number of times over the years for their misuse of data and numbers. So when they say a very liberal, almost socialist Democratic politician, is wrong in the use of her numbers, you know that the transgression is especially bad.

So let’s look at how bad Congressional candidate Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez failed in her use of numbers during a recent interview:
  • In a recent PBS interview, Ocasio-Cortez really loaded up on numbers by claiming that, “everyone has two jobs” and “people are working 60, 70, 80 hours a week and can barely feed their family."
  • This statement was so wrong, so off the wall, that Politifact gave it it’s worse rating for lies, “pants on fire”: “In our review, we found many reasons why unemployment is low, and not for the overwork that Ocasio-Cortez cited. The biggest factors include strong economic confidence and the long-running economic recovery.”
  • “Everyone has two jobs” was also found to be nonsense since according to the Department of Labor, 148 million employed Americans have only one job while only six to seven million Americans who have more than one job, not “everyone.”
  • Thus, a very small percentage of Americans are holding more than a single job, another big lie from Ocasio-Cortez.
  • But Politifact was not done, citing Bureau of Labor Statistics which says that only 310,000 American workers out of 150 million working Americans are working 70 to 80 hours a week, a percentage that is not even worth calculating: “It’s also worth noting that on average, Americans aren’t working more today than they have been in the recent past. The average number of hours worked in the private sector has hugged tightly to about 34.5 hours a week since 2006, except for a dip during the Great Recession.”
When a clearly liberal leaning fact checking organization says a Democrat lied so much that her pants were on fire, it is pretty obvious that this politician was making up statistics and fake realities as she was going along. And while politicians like Ocasio-Cortez lie, the numbers never do.

2) But Ocasio-Cortez was not the only political type making up numbers. Chelsea Clinton was also pulling numbers out of thin air at a recent conference. She was talking about abortion rights, which is certainly her right, but then tried to apply numbers that were just out of control: “Whether you fundamentally care about reproductive rights and access rights – because these are not the same thing – if you care about social justice or economic justice, you have to care about this. It is not a disconnected fact that American women entering the labor force from 1973 to 2009 added three and a half trillion dollars to the economy, right? The net, new entrance of women – that is not disconnected from the fact that Roe became the law of the land in January of 1973.”

Thus, according to her logic, the right to an abortion allowed more women to enter the workforce and contribute $3.5 trillion to the economy over a 36 year period. It is so easy to prove how this is a net loss to the country and society on a financial basis using real data as opposed to Chelsea making up numbers:
  • About 50 million Americans were aborted since the Roe Vs. Wade verdict in 1973 until 2009.
  • Thus, over 36 years, on average, about 1.4 million infants were aborted annually.
  • Let’s split the 36 years in half and assume about 25 million Americans would have been in the workforce today if they had not been aborted.
  • The average American worker earns a little over $50,000 a year in their jobs but the phantom 25 million people we are talking about above would have been younger, less seasoned, likely earning less than the average American worker.
  • Thus, let’s assume the average earnings of those 25 million would be earning 20% less, about $40,000 a year today.
  • Thus, multiplying the 25 million workers by their $40,000 annual salaries, these 25 people if they had not been aborted would be contributing $1 trillion a YEAR to the American economy.
  • So, Chelsea claims that the 50 million people aborted before being born allowed their moms to add $3.5 trillion to the U.S. economy over a 36 year period but we just showed that if half of those aborted had been born they likely would add $1 trillion to the economy in a single year now.
  • And going forward, those 25 million people would be moving along their career paths, increasing the amount they contributed to the economy and the other 25 million souls who were aborted in the second half of the 36 year period would be entering the workforce and adding to the amount that the aborted souls would be adding to the economy for decades to come.
  • And not only would the 50 million people would be adding to and growing the economy today, those first 25 million people earning $40,000 a year would be adding $150 billion a year to the cash strapped Social Security and Medicare programs.
Thus, even when Chelsea makes up numbers, they cannot match a conservative and realistic view of what those 50 million aborted souls could realistically be contributing to the economy.

This analysis is not meant to convince anyone if aborting souls is a good economic choice or good moral choice. The analysis is meant to point out how political types make up numbers that have no basis in reality when put under even a simple logic and math calculation. Which is why whenever someone like Chelsea hypes a number, you are far better off assuming that those numbers are pure garbage because historically those numbers were, pure garbage.

3) Usually during our monthly discussion on “Political Class Insanity” we talk about the death and maiming numbers coming out of Chicago every weekend. The south and west parts of the city are infested with gang violence and gun violence despite having some of the most stringent gun control laws in the country. A few weekends ago, over 70 Chicago residents were shot and a dozen were killed over the three day weekend.

In the most recent weekend, 23 people were shot and two died as a result of their wounds just between Saturday afternoon and Sunday morning. Ironically three people were shot at a so-called "peace event" in broad daylight. Those shot ranged in age from 15 years old to senior citizens. These are real numbers that real politicians have not idea how to cure.

Thus, nothing new today. Political types make up assertions, facts and numbers without any basis in reality (Ocasio-Cortez), they make up numbers that are easily shown to be nonsense (Chelsea Clinton), and they stand by as the numbers show more and more people being killed for no reason. Always trust the numbers, never trust a politician.

October, 2015, Part 5, Political Class Insanity: Epic Mismanaging The Economy at Epically Bad Levels Continued

It is the beginning of another month which means it is time again to review the latest political class insanity from the American political class. Each month it takes us multiple posts to cover the wasteful spending, incompetent government organizations and employees, government programs that usually make a problem worse than resolving it, inane and idiotic politician comments, etc.

To review past posts on this insanity and idiocy, just click on the first few posts in each month listed to the right of this page. After reviewing just a handful of these insanity posts we think you will agree that we are currently being served by the worst set of American politicians ever to hold office in our entire history

Today we will focus on economic insanity and incompetence from the American political class. Keep in mind the following realities when reading about the economic insanity and low performance generated by our Washington politicians:
  • This Presidential administration spent a whopping $800 billion in a so-called economic stimulus package.
  • This Presidential administration had the benefit of an energy revolution that significantly reduced the energy costs of businesses and households, freeing up money to be spent throughout the economy.
  • This Presidential administration had the benefit of the Federal Reserve Board printing trillions and trillions of dollars and putting them in play to jump start the economy.
Despite these tailwinds of almost a trillion dollars in Federal government stimulus spending, a once in a generation energy revolution, and trillions of dollars of Fed money stimulus, the Washington political class in general and this administration in particular produced a record anemic economic recovery. The recovery is so weak that annual GDP growth never attained its long term average and in fact never broke 3%, household income and wage growth has stagnated, and so many people got discouraged by the horrible job market that the workforce participation rate is at a 40 year low.

That is insanely poor economic planning, strategy, and knowledge. And as a result, we are stuck with the following economic insanity:

1) Yesterday we did a lot of reviews on how bad the unemployment and job creation situation is in America. But other data shows that it is even worse for American citizens than yesterday’s bad news. According to the latest Bureau of Labor Statistics reports, “foreign born” workers saw their job numbers increase by 14,000 in September while “native born” Americans saw them lose 262,000 jobs.

In the past quarter, the job results for native born Americans are even worse. Native born Americans lost almost 1 million jobs in the past three months while jobs filled by immigrants increased by 218,000. And the President and Secretary of State want to admit upwards of 100,000 Syrian war refugees into the country in the next year, many of whom willbelooking for jobs. You do the numbers.

2) Yesterday we discussed the reality that the U.S. labor participation rate is at a forty year low because Washington and Obama economic policies have not beeen able to generate enough economic growth and resultant job growth. The latest Bureau of Labor Statistics report details how bad things are in sub-sectors of the job market:
  • The percentage of American men in the labor force hit a record low in September.
  • 71.3% of men aged 20 or older held a job or actively sought one in September while only 68.7% of men over 16 had a job or were looking for one.
  • When Obama took office in 2009, the respective men labor participation rates were 75.3% for male adults over 20 years of age and 72.4% for males over 16 years of age.
  • In other words, despite six and a half years of the Obama Presidency and its economic policies, American men are NOT working at record rates, over five years after the last recession.
  • And American female workers have not done any better under Obama's economic policies with the latest labor participation rate for women over 16 years of age hitting 56.4% in September, a 27 year low, vs. 59.4% when Obama took office.
  • For American women aged over 20 years of age, the labor participation rate was a little better last month at 57.9%, a 24 year low, and down from 60.9% when Obama took office.
Horrible management of the economy during the entire Obama administration. We are over five years removed from the recession, the Federal government spent over $800 billion to stimulate the economy, energy costs plummeted, and the Fed printed trillions of dollars and still the Obama administration cannot get enough jobs created for Americans. Epic failure.

3) Okay, last discussion on the political class insanity when it comes to managing a robust economy and how our politicians cannot do such a thing. The following nine charts from the Federal Reserve summarize how poorly Washington has managed the economy over the past seven years, the trends are clear and not good:
  • Student loan debt, and the economic fiasco potential it represents, has skyrocketed.
  • The number of Americans on food stamps/assistance is up about 50% since AFTER the recession ended.
  • Federal debt has skyrocketed after four years of Obama’s trillion dollars annual deficits.
  • The nation’s money supply has exploded in the past seven years with no underlying economic wealth to justify it.
  • Health insurance costs continue to escalate despite Obama’s promise it would go down upwards of $2,500 a year for American families.
  • As we have hammered over the past two days, the labor participation rate is dropped significantly over the past six years AFTER the recession ended.
  • Median family income has continued to crater years AFTER the recession ended.
  • Home ownership has dropped substantially years AFTER the recession ended.

Einstein once said that the definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results. This is so applicable to this Presidential administration and the others in the Washington political class: despite the incredible economic tail winds of a massive economic stimulus, dropping energy costs, and trillions in Federal Reserve money, they still could not come up with a strategy for a robust economy.

How about we do a few things differently and see if we can stop the insanity:
  1. How about we fix our public education system so that the trillions of dollars we spend on it over the years actually produces productive and intelligent graduates?
  2. How about we severely reduce the huge amount of unnecessary regulations and rules that American businesses have to follow which takes away from time and energy that could be used to productively expand the economy and job opportunities?
  3. How about we overhaul the entire tax code so that businesses and consumers have more money to spend in the real economy rather than giving it to the black hole that is Washington D.C. where nothing productive is ever done with taxpayer wealth?
  4. How about we revise the tax code so that the trillions of dollars in corporate profits that are kept overseas are encouraged to be brought back for investment in this country?
  5. How about we dump Obama Care so that the taxes and regulations that are strangling businesses from that legislation go away?
How much worse could it get economically if we tried something else because the current economic policies of Obama and Washington have given us low employment, low wage growth, dangerously high student loan levels, skyrocketing debt and health care costs, etc.? Somewhere Einstein is chuckling as today's Washington political class prove him right….again.

One last set of general political class insanity tomorrow.
