The Disaster That Is FEMA, Part 1 - Lebanon More Important than American Hurricane Victims, Mayorkas Continues To Fail, Budget Mismanagement and More

 We have often discussed the many, many failures of the Biden administration:

• Failed immigration policies.

• Failed economic policies.

• Failed diplomacy efforts.

• Failed government initiatives.

To this fabulous list of failures, let’s discuss the latest government agency in the Biden administration to fail at it’s assignment and duties:

1)The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) is responsible for helping Americans in need when natural disasters befall them, be it as a result of hurricanes, tornadoes, flooding, wildfires, etc. In the past couple of weeks two major hurricanes would have hit the country, Helene and Milton. Helen caused major damage in Florida but the real  disaster was in North Carolina where floods, mudslides, and overflowing rivers have caused havoc and death.

Alejandro Mayorkas is the Secretary of Homeland Security and is in charge of FEMA. His previous disasters and failures have been his inability, or more likely, his non-desire, to protect the southern border from being overrun by over ten million illegal immigrants. Among those ten million illegal  immigrants were members of criminal gangs,  drug cartels and sex trafficking cartels. His failure at this function has resulted in danger, death, and violence to American citizens.

And now along come two hurricanes that have killed hundreds, left thousands homeless, destroyed billions of dollars worth of property, and disrupted the lives of millions of Americans. And while this chaos has been going on in many states, he has recently been seen casually strolling along a shopping plaza after having shopped at an upscale men’ store called Syd Masburn in DC.  Obviously how well he  dresses is more important than the suffering of millions of Americans.

Elon  Musk probably summed up this despicable behavior the best: “He’s shopping for fancy clothes while people are suffering from hurricane damage. This is some Hunger Games shit.”

That about sums it up.

2)While Mayorikas is clothes shopping, people on the ground in Bat Cave, North Carolina are dealing with some stark  storm realities….without the help of FEMA:

• Bat Cave was destroyed by Hurricane Helene but has received no  help from  FEMA.

• FEMA personnel refused to enter the area because there was a “Road Closed” sign in the road.

• Rather than investigate how they could get aid to the Bat Cave residents, the FEMA folks just turned and went away, leaving Bat Cave  residents without the aid they desperately needed.

• According to a news report that quoted a local resident, Chelsea Atkins,  “You can drive it [the road with the “Road Closed” sign] for sure.”

• But FEMA apparently never even tried to get down the road to help those in need.

As a result, the residents of Bat Cave were  forced to rely on each other to do what had to be done to  help those in need in their area, FEMA be damned.

3)But things get worse if one views a video clip from a FEMA disaster preparedness staff meeting that was held back in March, 2023:

• In that meeting FEMA Emergency Management  Specialist Tyler Atkins emphasized that FEMA would show preference for LGBTQIA+ communities over broader relief efforts.

• in other words, LGBTQIA+ communities would get priority over other American citizens in times of disaster because they are “already disadvantaged.”

• Specifically:  “They already have their own things to deal with. So, you add a disaster on top of that, it’s just compounding on itself.” 

• This is obviously a violation of a FEMA policy whose core mission is to provide assistance and aid based on need rather than sexual identity.

Unbelievable that the Federal government would prioritize saving lives based on sexual orientation rather than the danger at the moment. FEMA should be focused on  doing the greatest good for the greatest amount of people in need in the shortest time frame possible, not checking someone’s sexual orientation card before determining their place in line for aid. Despicable performance and priorities.

4)The failure of FEMA to perform basic life saving functions in the face of recent hurricanes should come as no surprise, given recent whistleblower allegations of incompetence and mismanagement in the agency.

• Congressman Matt Gaetz recently addressed these whistleblower concerns in a letter to Mayorkas.

• Specifically: “My office has been in contact with whistleblowers in numerous emergency-management functions.”

• He accused FEMA of withholding disaster aid, mismanagement of funds, deploying and paying for military resources to help in disasters but then never using the resources, allowing NGOs to use agency funds for airline tickets for illegal immigrants among  other misuse of funds.

• As a result of misusing and wasting FEMA budget dollars, Mayorkas had to go public to insist that FEMA did not have the necessary budget resources to properly respond to hurricane disasters, leaving Hurricane Helene and Milton victims to fend for themselves despite the tax  dollars they paid for FEMA and Mayorkas’ priority to shop at high end fashion shops.

• And this should not come as a surprise since a lot of FEMA dollars went into the so-called Shelter and Services Program whose purpose is to provide services to non-citizens, i..e. Illegal immigrants.

Just another example of both government incompetence and prioritizing the needs of illegal immigrants over the needs of Americans under stress.

5)Between the two recent hurricanes, Helene and Milton, hundreds of Americnas have died, thousands have been injured and millions are suffering from displacement, lost possessions, and stress. In the middle of these very difficult times and the failure of FEMA to deliver on its charter to help in  times of disaster, the Vice President, Kamala Harris, decided it would be a good time to announce that the Biden administration is sending $157,000,000 to Lebanon. Not North Carolina, not Florida but Lebanon half a world away.

Hurricane victims are hungry, homeless, aching, mourning, and wondering what they will do next to survive and she rubs $157,000,000 in these needy Americans’ faces. Oh, she also announced that this $157,000,000 brings the total amount of taxpayer money going overseas just to Lebanon to about a half a billion dollars.

Others properly pointed out how heartless and tone deaf this action was:

• Actor James Woods: “This has to be fake. Even Kamala Harris, the gold standard of stupid, isn’t stupid enough to post this. Certainly not while North Carolinians are pulling the bodies of their neighbors from the wreckage. It’s simply inconceivable.” 

• Congressman Nick Langworthy: “Could this be any more tone-deaf? We have Americans suffering and in danger right now after the hurricane, and this is what Kamala has to announce. America First!”

• Journaliist Eric Daugherty: “To be clear – Kamala Harris’ campaign-suicidal post this evening focusing on LEBANON while major disaster rescues and recovery are underway is an admission she is losing Michigan right now.” North Carolina are getting meager aid while millions flow out the door to foreign countries.

FEMA is inept, Mayoraks is inept, minorities and foreign country citizens are more important than Americans, and Kamala Harris couldn’t care less about the hurricane victims and their sufferings.

May, 2021, Part 3, Political Class Insanity: California Dumbs Down Its Kids, Biden Has a Kid Crisis at The Border and More

It is the beginning of another month which means it is time again to review the latest political class insanity from the American political class. Each month it takes us multiple posts to cover the wasteful spending, incompetent government organizations and employees, government programs that usually make a problem worse than resolving it, inane and idiotic politician comments, etc.

To review past posts on this insanity and idiocy, just click on the first few posts in each month listed to the right of this page. After reviewing just a handful of these insanity posts we think you will agree that we are currently being served by the worst set of American politicians ever to hold office in our entire history.

1) We have discussed the idiocy and ineptness of the California political class many times, especially lately. They have wrought the following problems on the citizens of the state:

• The state has the highest poverty level in the country.
• The state has, by far, the largest unfunded financially government liabilities.
• The state has one of the highest tax burdens in the country.
• The state has some of the highest gas prices in the country.
• The state has some of the highest utility costs in the country.
• The state has the largest homeless population in the country.
• The state’s cities have seen an ever increasing crime rate.
• The state has the highest housing prices in the country.
• The state lost 180,000 residents in the past year as citizens and businesses flee the deteriorating living conditions and quality of life situations in the state.
• The decreasing size of the state population has resulted in a lost Congressional seat.

And to this list of failures the state politicians and government bureaucrats have currently created the following insanity:

• Reason magazine recently discussed the new California state policy that “will discourage students who are gifted at math.”
• Yes, rather than and lift up the math expertise and ability of all students, the state has decided it is better to dumb down the entire math education process to the lowest common denominator.
• Of course, that is not how they explain it, preferring to cast the downgrade as being anti-racist: “Active efforts in mathematics teaching are required in order to counter the cultural forces that have led to and continue to perpetuate current inequities. Mathematics pathways must open mathematics to all students, eliminating option-limiting tracking. [i.e. no advance classes]....The evolution of mathematics in educational settings has resulted in dramatic inequities for students of color, girls, and students from low income homes.”
• More tripe from the new guidelines: “To encourage truly equitable and engaging mathematics classrooms we need to broaden perceptions of mathematics beyond methods and answers so that students come to view mathematics as a connected, multi-dimensional subject that is about sense making and reasoning, to which they can contribute and belong."
• Reason correctly concludes: "If California adopts this framework, which is currently under public review, the state will end up sabotaging its brightest students. The government should let kids opt out of math if it's not for them. Don't let the false idea that there's no such thing as a gifted student herald the end of advanced math entirely."

Rather than lift everyone up, the state and the politicians that operate it want to bring everyone down to the dumbest level. Nice use and abuse of the learning process and taxpayer dollars.

2) Since Biden became President, we have had the following situations develop:

• Russian troops are threatening the Ukraine.
• Iran is threatening the world.
• The Palestinians and Israelis are killing each other.
• France and England are at odds over fishing rights.
• Someone, some hacker(s) shut down a major oil pipeline in the country.
• Inflation is at the highest level in over a decade.
• The unemployment rate recently started inching up again.

And none of these Biden failures are related to the biggest Biden screw up of all, the flooding of the southern border with illegal immigrants and he drug cartels sex, traffickers, and criminal gangs that come with it. And the most disturbing and disgusting aspect of the crisis on the border is the misuse and abuse of children:

• Almost 25,000 illegal immigrant children are in custody of the Biden government and separated from their parents.
• This is an all time high level.
• Senator Mitt Romney pinned the blame where it belongs, on Biden’s stupid border policy and statements:“The Biden administration’s lack of understanding of the power of incentives continues to baffle me: allowing unaccompanied minors to stay in the U.S. will yield a flood of unaccompanied minors. It’s de facto ‘child separation policy.’”
• Although Biden continues to blame Trump for the problem he has created, the reality is that the surge of unaccompanied kids at the border started AFTER Trump left office.
• In addition, for the first time ever, we now know that drug cartels have learned to deposit unaccompanied small children on the border to divert Border Patrol resources from preventing cartel and criminal activity to taking care of abandoned kids.
• In addition, there are reports that the there is child abuse going on within the detention facilities as these unaccompanied kids are not protected by their parents.

Oh, by the way, the person Biden has put in charge of this mess, Vice President Kamala Harris has STILL NOT visited ground zero on the border to find out what is really going on, more than seven weeks after being given the assignment to fix what Biden has broken. Such incompetence all around. Unfortunately, this incompetence is causing some serious trauma and abuse of some innocent kids.

3) We have often discussed the reality that for a democracy to survive, the press and journalism entities that serve the democracy have to be strong, aggressive, unbiased, and fair in their reporting. Unfortunately, that cannot be said of the journalism profession and mainstream media in this country today, a reality that does indeed endanger our democracy.

CNN, MSNBC, New York Times, Washington Post and others have shown themselves to be unfair and intentionally misleading in their reporting, almost always favoring the liberal positions and specifically, the Democratic party, over the past years. This was especially true during the Trump years, where even the pretense of trying to be unbiased was discarded for the worst form of biased journalism.

So it is actually refreshing when one of those biased mainstream outlets actually reports in an unbiased, honest, factual manner:

• Democrats across the country at the state and local government level have imposed the most draconian, oppressive, and often useless and stupid covid lock downs during the pandemic.
• Conversely, Republican politicians across the country have been smarter, made better use of common sense and loosened covid restrictions in a timely and so far, accurate, manner.
• And while most members of the mainstream press falsely saw these Republicans as reckless and dangerous, the reality is that those states with looser restrictions and more freedom relative to covid are in a much stronger economic recovery mode than the states run by Democrats.
• So it was refreshing to see the “Today Show” on NBC, certainly a mainstream media outlet, recognize the truth and factually report on it in their report called “ COVID Conundrum.”
• Their reporting honestly showed that the states with stricter covid restrictions were experiencing a new surge in covid cases while Republican run states were not seeing any surge at all: “Call it a COVID conundrum. In states with the strictest measures in the country, like Michigan, Pennsylvania, and much of New England, cases are on the rise, while in the South, states like Arkansas and Texas that have reopened businesses and ripped away mask mandates are seeing their numbers drop.”

Why this is happening is not important in this discussion. The only thing that's important is that FINALLY a mainstream media outlet has actually truthfully reported reality with no bias towards their typical political friends, liberals and Democrats. Quite refreshing from a democracy, freedom and honest journalism perspective.

4) From FDR to John Kennedy to Bill Clinton to a whole bunch of other politicians, members of the American political class have all too often shown themselves to be sexual predators, perverts, and hypocrites. Consider a recent example of such despicable behaviors from an Oregon politician:

• Dave Hunt is a former speaker of the Oregon house of representatives and is a current board member of the Clackamas Community College board.
• And now he is an arrested former speaker of the house in Oregon having been arrested in a police sting associated with human trafficking websites.
• He was arrested after being caught arranging to pay for sex on one of the websites which was really a police sting.
• Although this behavior is pretty nasty and despicable, which makes it worse is his hypocrisy since he actually once sponsored a piece of legislation that was meant to combat sex trafficking.
• He sponsored a bill back in 2007 that crininalized sex trafficking and also voted to support a laws in 2011 which created the crime of “commercial sexual solicitation.”
• The karma of the whole sordid affair is that this was the statue he was arrested for, a piece of legislation he actually voted to enact.

We will assume he is innocent until proven guilty but if he is guilty, he got what he deserved and we get what we deserve when we elect such lowlifes over and over again.

That will do it for today: a possible sex deviant former politician in Oregon, rare honesty from a mainstream media outlet, Biden’s incompetence puts tens of thousands of kids in danger, and California dumbs down the state’s kids.

Illegal Immigration Is Not A Victimless Crime, It is A Failure of The Obama Administration

We almost always protest when government and the American political class try to do something. We object for two basic reasons:

1. The more government and politicians do, the less freedom and liberty we have.
2. The more government and politicians do, the more they screw up life, often making an existing problem worse with their “solutions” while wasting money and liberty in the process.

In our view, we would like government and politicians do far less with the chance that they would actually resolve a problem once in awhile. Instead, they do a lot of things, getting all of them wrong instead of focusing on a few issues and maybe resolving one of them. 

In our view, one of the prime functions and responsibilities should be to protect Americans. I think if they could do that well then we could forgive them if they did not try to do some of the other inane and unnecessary thinks they do that never work out while wasting taxpayer wealth in the process. 

However, even though their are laws on the books to protect us from illegal immigrant criminals and non-criminals, the Obama administration has decided that these are not laws but merely “suggestions.” relative to illegal immigration. We have previous related on how this adminsitration admitted in Congressional hearings that it has released tens of thousands of criminal illegal immigrants into American society where they have committed thousands and thousands of new crimes against American citizens:

We have also reported on how the Obama administration’s inability or non-desire to rid the country of illegal immigrant criminals, many, many American citizens have been maimed and killed by illegal immigrants that have not been deported or confined or have been deported and confined but Obama released them back out to prey on American citizens:

Today, we will review the sad cases of other innocent Americans who have been killed because Obama has refused to enforce current immigration laws,  proving once again that illegal immigration is NOT a victimless crime (note: these sad cases of suffering American families comes from the Fair US website):

- Tess Tranchant of Virginia Beach was a 16 year old that was killed on March 30, 2007 when an illegal immigrant, Alfredo Ramos rammed into the back of Ms. Tranchant’s car that was stopped at a red light. Ramos was drunk and speeding when he rammed the car and killed her. He had a history of criminal activity and convictions but since Virginia Beach fashions itself as a sanctuary city that ignores current immigration laws, he was never taken into custody by local officials and deported. He was charged with two counts of manslaughter, Ms. Tranchant’s friend, sitting in the passenger seat was also killed, and he got a sentence of 40 years in prison.

- Sarah Root, 21, of Omaha, was killed in January, 2016 when her car was rammed into by Eswin Mejia, an illegal immigrant from Honduras. Mejia was street racing when he hit Ms. Root. She had just graduated from Bellevue University with a 4.0 GPS and had a bright future in front of her. The town where she was killed is also a sanctuary city which has policies that restrict the execution of Federal immigration laws. Mejia was charged with homicide but somehow got bail which was he posted and disappeared, depriving Ms. Root’s family of closure over the murder of their daughter.

- Shayley Estes was killed in 2015 in Phoenix by an illegal immigrant from Russia, Igor Zubko. Ms. Estes had gotten an order of protection against Zubko a week and half prior to the murder but he still invaded her home and murdered her. He had overstayed his visa which enabled him to commit the murder for which he faces first degree murder charges.

- Roberto Gallo was an unlicensed driver and illegal immigrant from Honduras but lived in sanctuary city of San Francisco which protected him from Federal immigration laws. He ended up killing second year law student Drew Rosenberg when Gallo ran him over three times. Unbelievably and disgracefully, even though Gallo was found guilty vehicular manslaughter, he was sentenced to only six months in jail AND was released after serving only 43 days. The Federal government refused to even deport him until Mr. Rosenberg’s family’s activism finally got Gallo deported three years later.

Don Rosenberg, Drew’s dad, summed up our feelings on the function, and failure, of government perfectly: “The number one responsibility of the federal government is to protect the citizenry. We have been betrayed by successive administrations who have allowed campaign contributions and votes to supersede that responsibility with the result being the deaths of tens of thousands of our loved ones.” Well said.

- Grant Ronneback, age 21, was murdered by illegal immigrant, Apolinar Altamirano, in January, 2015, over a pack of cigarettes when Mr. Ronnebeck was working his job at a convenience store. Sadly, Altamirano was out on bond from a previous conviction while the Obama administration tried to decide whether he should be deported. Steve Ronnebeck, Grant’s father also had some sorrowful insights to his son's unnecessary murder: “My son's death was completely preventable. Obama's immigration policies cost my son his life.”

The article goes on to document some other atrocities and affronts to Americans and rule of law: 

• Cecil Burrows, an illegal immigrant from India, is scheduled to be deported after three years in prison for organizing a gang rape in his home in 2012.
• Two illegal Salvadoran immigrants and gang members were convicted of murder in Virginia.
• Mauricio Morales-Caceres, an illegal immigrant and MS-13 gang member from El Salvador was sentenced to life in prison in Maryland to life in prison for the stabbing death of another Salvadoran. 
• Juan Carlos Sepulveda-Castro, an illegal immigrant from Mexico, was sentenced to two and a half years in prison for threatening people with an assault rifle in Idaho despite the stupid and inane law that prohibits illegal immigrants from owning a firearm.
• Eleven illegal immigrants, all members of the Salvadoran MS-13 gang, were convicted of a series of crimes including murder in New Jersey in the spring of 2016.
• Illegal immigrants, Reinol Vergara and Edson Benitez, pled to second degree murder when they invaded the home of a 90 year Mnnesota man whom they beat up and left to bleed to death while they ransacked his home.
• Another Salvadoran illegal immigrant, Mauricio Morales-Caceres, was convicted of first degree murder in Maryland in April, of 2016.
• Juan Razo, a Mexican illegal immigrant in Painesville, Ohio, pleaded guilty to a life sentence to a series of crimes that included the shooting death of a 60-year old woman, the attempted rape of a 14-year old girl, kidnapping and burglary. 

As often with Obama, the rule of law is merely a suggestion to him and his political ambitions. And as often happens when the law is broken, Americans die and American families mourn. Illegal immigration is not a victimless crime. It is just another failure of the Washington political class who has failed miserably in this area to carry out a basic function of government, protect those that it governs.

Government: If You Think The Problems We Create Are Bad, Wait Until You See Our Solutions, Part 2

Last Thursday was the first of three posts where we will discussing the premier failure of 14 Federal government programs. This discussion is in light of the “Hunger Games” scenario we had previously proposed, a scenario that illustrates how a small, elitist set of people, the political class, get all of the benefits of a hard working society without doing a lot of work or resolving any major issue of our times. The first five issues we discussed included:

1. Prohibition and the related lost war on drugs.
2. The continuing saga of our failing public schools.
3. The financial and medical disaster that is Medicare.
4. The financial and medical disaster that is Medicaid.
5. Our lack of a compassionate and security minded illegal immigration policies.

The next five Federal government failures are listed below:

6) Since Nixon launched the “war on drugs” over forty years ago, the U.S. has spent over a trillion dollars in executing that failed strategy. The Independent Journal Review article, on which much of these posts are based on, pointed out how drug use has probably been unaffected by this “war,” given the exponential growth in Americans locked up behind bars for some sort of drug offense (double click on the chart for a larger view):

Thus, over a trillion dollars spent/wasted without reducing illegal drug usage, if we use incarceration has a surrogate for usage. All the Federal government ended up doing was to enrich Mexican drug cartels with no benefit back to American society in improved drug treatment policies, reduced drug abuse, or reduced prison expenditures.

7) The Agricultural Adjustment Act of 1938 did two bad things: it allowed the Federal government to get deeply involved in private enterprise, in this case the farming industry and more insanely, used taxpayer dollars to pay farmers NOT to farm. This is like paying doctors not to doctor, accountants not to do taxes, restaurants not to serve food, etc. It pretends that Washington bureaucrats, living in a far off land known as Washington D.C., have a better feel for the market, the laws of supply and demand, and the challenges of farming than those actually doing the deed of farming.

As a result, we get a complete distortion of the free market, wasting of taxpayer dollars, and an obese nation since these policies have resulted in an abundance of foods and sweeteners that are bad for us and an under supply of food that is good and healthy for us.

We end up spending trillions of dollars to restrict and misdirect food supplies while millions of Americans go hungry or get fat.

8) Staying down on the farm, according to a Daily Finance report on AOL: “Over the past 30 years, the Federal government has given an estimated $45 billion to the corn industry to help support ethanol production. In 2011 alone, those subsidies totaled about $6 billion, or about 45 cents for every gallon of ethanol.

Those in Washington who administer this program obviously had a very limited understanding of supply and demand. If you reduce the supply of farmland that is used to raise edible crops, diverting that farm land’s use to producing inedible crops that are used to power cars, if demand stays the same or rises, the need to eat, the price of food has to go up.

And this is exactly what happened, screwing the American taxpayer in two ways. Politicians took taxpayer wealth, gave it to farmers to make ethanol, and which resulted in Americans paying more for food since their taxpayer dollars had been spent to reduce the supply of food. Circular, idiotic government logic at its best.

9) One of the Obama administration’s big drives was in the alternative energy fields. We have covered the many failures of this effort many times as it relates to the companies that Obama gave American tax dollars to, all of which are already out of business or are in some stage of bankruptcy proceedings. These ill-fated but crony-important investments include, but are not limited to, Solyndra, A123, Evergreen, Spectra, Ecotality, and others.

But bad investments in companies is not the only way the Federal government wasted money. Number 9 out of our 14 epic Federal government disasters include the following data from the Department of Labor’s Inspector General from January, 2012:

• A major component of the Obama green/alternative energy program included a goal that was to train 124,893 people in green technology jobs.
• After training, the related goal was to place 79,854 (64%) of these newly trained workers in actual new green jobs.
• 17 months into the program, program results indicate that only 52,762 were trained, and only 8,035 got green jobs.
• Each job cost taxpayers about $62,000.

So the program only attained 42% of its planned training objective and a measly 10% of its placement objective. These results are failures in whatever human endeavor you are talking about.

10) In the realm of unintended consequences, consider the knee jerk reaction of Washington politicians to one book, a book whose assertions, conclusions, and science has pretty much been debunked over time. Shortly after Rachel Carson published her book, “Silent Spring,” in 1962 which cited the use of the insecticide DDT as a major menace to humans and the environment, Washington and other Western nations banned production and use of it.

However, while the misuse of DDT was a real problem, proper use of DDT was not. DDT had proven to be a very effective deterent against the spread of malaria. However, because the political class never took the time to understand the deeper cause and effects of DDT, their knee jerk reaction to an unneeded outright ban has probably led to the premature death of millions of people according to two experts in the field, Michael Arnold Glueck and Robert J. Cihak, both M.D.s: “That DDT prevented 500 million deaths by 1970 and that the banning of its use in poor countries has resulted in millions of unnecessary deaths holds no sway with true believers in this doctrine [of banning DDT].

Thus, in this disaster, taxpayer money was not wasted and a major domestic issue did not go unresolved for decades. The political class just condemned millions of people to premature deaths because they never took the time to properly analyze the situation.

Mishandling the drug abuse problem, ignorantly intervening in the farm industry market, wasting money on failing or failed alternative nergy intiatives, and causing people to die for not understanding a problem. Yes, I would say these were five major disasters, courtesy fo the American political class. We will finish up with the final four of 14 disasters tomorrow.
