October, 2019, Part 2, Political Class Insanity: CNN Loses All Credibility, The Fallacy of Rifle Gun Control, and Elizabeth Warren's Idiocy

It is another month which means it is again time to review the latest political class insanity from Washington and around the world. Political class insanity takes many forms including the wasting of taxpayer wealth, criminal fraud within government programs, inane and stupid political quotes and actions, the inability to create and implement effective and efficient government programs, stupid and ill performing economic policies and strategies, and other forms of insanity that continue to evolve and surprise and shock us.

Let’s get started:

1) Democrats and liberals are always looking to restrict and eliminate access to Second Amendment rights, with their recent emphasis on rifles such as the AK-47. Never mind that Obama spent $15 million on a CDC study of gun violence that found that the Second Amendment rights save 50% more lives than those that are taken by gun violence. The FBI has conceded that armed citizens cause more good than harm. And yet liberals and Democrats continue to insist that having the Second Amendment is terrible.

But according to the FBI, these folks are barking up the wrong tree when it comes to gun violence:
  • The FBI recently produced its annual Uniform Crime report for 2018.
  • This report covers all violent crimes across the country in total and by type of crime.
  • Overall, in 2018 the violent crime rate dropped for the second year in a row.
  • But more interestingly and probably more depressing to liberals and Democrats is that knives kill far more Americans every year than rifles.
  • In 2018, across the country homicides decreased by 1,071, from 15,195 to 14,123.
  • Of those 14,123 homicides, 1,515 were killed by knives while 297 were killed by rifles like AK-47s.
  • Thus, knives killed five times as many people than rifles did.
  • Of the 14,123 homicides only 2.1% were killed by rifles.
  • Even if you add in homicides by shotguns, 235 in 2018, the total homicides committed by rifles and shotguns is far less than homicides done with knives.
  • Furthermore, more people were killed by blunt weapons (443) and by bare hands (672) than by rifles or shotguns.
Thus, if logic prevailed in politics, than liberals and Democrats should be focusing on banning knives, blunt instruments, and bare hands. But alas, logic never prevails in politics and with politicians. Rather than attacking the root causes of hatred and violence, they always insist on crusading on false issues that do not address the root causes. As a result, the Second Amendment gets weakens but the violence does not abate.

This is also a case of bad priorities. Rather than focus on the hundreds of annual deaths incurred by shotguns and rifles, tens of thousands of Americans die every year from drug addiction. And yet, the political capital and rhetoric spewed by liberals and Democrats is wasted on minor issues while the big issues go on unabated.

2) One of the great barriers against a tyrannical government is the free press. A free press should be presenting all sides of issues and informing the public about facts, realities, and transgressions of those in political power. They should stand for truth and unbiasedness.

But unfortunately that is not the case with the vast majority of press outlets in this country today. A recent example of journalistic failure concern CNN:
  • Trump’s political organization recently put together and released a TV ad that highlighted Joe Biden’s corruption.
  • Nothing special here, political campaigns are always putting together ads that attack the corruption, record, or integrity of their political opponents, has been going on forever.
  • And yet, despite this tradition of political advertising, CNN refused to run the ad on its network.
  • Which should not be a surprise to anyone since CNN is no longer an unbiased news organization, it is a pro Democrat anti-Trump, anti-conservative, anti-Republican propaganda operation.
  • I am sure that if Obama put together a similar ad against say Mitt Romney, CNN would have had no problem airing it, the Trump ad was nothing special, scandalous, libelous, etc.
  • According to the Townhall website article: “Despite stating that news networks don't or shouldn't take political sides, CNN is refusing to air a Trump campaign ad that accuses former Vice President Joe Biden and his son, Hunter Biden, of corruption in Ukraine. As a reminder, Hunter Biden was paid $50,000 per month to sit on the board of a Ukrainian gas company, despite having no experience in the field. He was paid while his father served during President Barack Obama's tenure in the White House.”
  • CNN defended its actions: “CNN is rejecting the ad, as it does not meet our advertising standards. Specifically, in addition to disparaging CNN and its journalists, the ad makes assertions that have been proven demonstrably false by various news outlets, including CNN.”
  • But according to a Trump spokesperson, CNN never told them why they rejected the ad or what was untrue.
Come on, CNN, its political theater. You should not be the judge, jury, and executioner on what is false or true, especially given your history of misreporting facts and realities. Let Americans decide what is true and what is false, your job should be to present all sides of an issue, something you fail miserably at every day.

Or did you get your feelings hurt because the Trump ad said something mean? In either case, your bias toward anything not liberal or your thin skin and hurt feelings shows again that you are not a protector of liberty and a fair reporter of facts and realities. You are just a propaganda organ for the left and as a result, your parading around as a real journalistic enterprise hurts our democracy and our freedom.

3) I love it when politicians show their basic lack of basic economic theory. And the most basic economic theory is the theory of supply and demand: if supply goes up too much, the price goes down, if demand goes up, the price goes up and visa versa.

And yet Elizabeth Warren, Democratic candidate for President, apparently does not understand this incredibly simple concept:
  • Warren recently told the United Food and Commercial Workers union that granting amnesty to millions and millions of illegal immigrants would be a good thing for current American workers.
  • Specifically: “We need a pathway to citizenship for the people who are here and here to stay. They are our neighbors; they are our brothers and sisters. They are here. We need a path — not just for DREAMers — but also a path for grandmas, and for little kids, and for people who came here to work on farms, and for students who overstayed their visas. We need a path that is fair and achievable. Bring people out of the shadows. It is good for all workers, and we need to get them into our unions.”
  • She also wants to expand legal immigration and bring more workers into the country.
  • But more workers means the supply of workers goes up and basic economic theory says that more supply reduces prices (in this case prices = wages), i.e. wages for existing American workers would see wage pressure downwards since there would be more workers for the same amount of jobs.
  • And yet somehow Warren thinks this is good news for American workers.
Look, immigration, legal and illegal, is a whole other issue and a very complicated issue. However, the laws of economics is quite simple and not negotiable: more workers without a change in demand means lower wages, it is that simple, more supply equals lower prices. Warren knows better, she has been involved in the financial world for a long time which simply means she is lying when she says that bringing in millions of people to vie for your job is a good thing for your career and job security, it is NOT.

That will do it for today’s insanity: politicians’ bad priorities when it comes to the Second Amendment vs. working on real issues, CNN fails again in protecting freedom of thought and democracy, and Elizabeth Warren lies about simple economic theory.
