October, Part 5, Political Class Insanity: More Delusions, More Lies, More Bad Priorities

It is another month which means it is again time to review the latest political class insanity from Washington and around the world. Political class insanity takes many forms including the wasting of taxpayer wealth, criminal fraud within government programs, inane and stupid political quotes and actions, the inability to create and implement effective and efficient government programs, stupid and ill performing economic policies and strategies, and other forms of insanity that continue to evolve and surprise and shock us.

Let’s get started:

1) It is my opinion that when a left leaning media outlet like the Washington Post dares to be critical of any Democrat or liberal politician, then I sit up and take note. And that is exactly what I did when the Post printed an article by Mark Thiessen that actually dared to criticize Barack Obama as it related to the ill fated, poorly structured, and failure of a nuclear arms deal with Iran:

  • Mr. Thiessen actually wrote: “When it comes to the Iran nuclear deal, the Obama administration increasingly appears to have been a bottomless pit of deception.”
  • He then commences to list the deceptions.
  • First off, Obama intentionally failed to tell about the secret side deals he made with the Iranians when it came to inspections of Iranian nuclear weapon facilities.
  • These side deals were uncovered only when two Republicans accidentally found out about them at a meeting with the International Atomic Energy Agency.
  • Then it became known that Obama had secretly sent a plan to Iran loaded with $400 million in Swiss francs, euros, and other currencies on the same day Iran released four American hostages.
  • Obama then sent two more secret flights carrying $1.3 billion in cash.
  • And most recently, Republicans on the Senate Permanent Subcommittee on Investigations have found out that Obama tried to secretly use U.S. banks to convert $5.7 billion of Iranian assets.
  • This happened after he told Congress Iran would not get access to the U.S. financial system.
  • He then lied to Congress about what his administration had actually done.
  • Specifically: “In July 2015, Obama Treasury Secretary Jack Lew assured the Senate Foreign Relations Committee that, under the nuclear accord, Iran “will continue to be denied access to the [U.S.] financial and commercial market” and that “Iranian banks will not be able to clear U.S. dollars through New York, hold correspondent account relationships with U.S. financial institutions, or enter into financing arrangements with U.S. banks.” A few weeks later, one of Lew’s top deputies, Adam Szubin, used the exact same words in testimony to the Senate banking committee.”
  • Despite this testimony, on February 24, 2016, Obama’s Treasury Department granted a license to help Iran convert those Iranian assets and then proceeded to try and convince two U.S .banks to carry out the deal.
  • In a June, 2016 letter to two Senators, Obama’s Treasury Department declared that, “The U.S. Department of Treasury is not working on behalf of Iran to enable Iranian access to U.S. dollars elsewhere in the international financial system, nor are we assisting Iran in gaining access to dollar payment systems outside the U.S. financial system. The Administration has not been and is not planning to grant Iran access to the U.S. financial system.”
  • In summary, according to the article: “In other words, the Obama administration: (1) told Congress it would not allow Iran access to U.S. financial institutions; (2) issued a special license allowing Iran to do exactly that; (3) unsuccessfully pressured U.S. banks to help Iran; (4) lied to Congress and the American people about what it had done; (5) admitted in internal emails that these efforts “exceeded” U.S. obligations under the nuclear deal; (6) sent officials, including bank regulators around the world to urge foreign financial institutions to do business with Iran; and (7) promised that they would get nothing more than a slap on the wrist for violating U.S. sanctions."
Wow, talk about lying to Congress and the American public. And yet, nobody went to jail, nobody got impeached, nobody had a career cut short even though the lying on just this issue was blatant, recurring, and illegal. And yet Joe Biden recently reiterated the myth that the Obama administration was “scandal free.” Another whopper of a lie and more aspects of a so lame nuclear weapons deal with Iran.

2) We have given hundreds of examples of politicians acting badly. Examples of blatant lies, greed, idiocy, incompetence, bad priorities, and legislative and governance failures. And delusion, as shown again by losing 2016 Presidential candidate Hillary Clinton:

  • For over two years Hillary has blamed a whole variety of reasons why she lost the election, never once really blaming herself for her own failures.
  • And she has recently emerged again with a whole set of weird observations and excuses for her failed campaign.
  • First, she claims that Trump is “obsessed” with her even though he hardly ever mentions her name, indicating a certain level of delusion and paranoia on her part.
  • She views him as a “corrupt human tornado,” ignoring the corruptness of her public life, from lying about so many things (e.g. she did NOT land under sniper fire in Bosnia as she claimed), operating a money laundering scheme known as the Clinton Foundation while Secretary of State, breaking laws and government security protocols by operating and using an unsecure computer server in her home, etc.
  • She claimed that Trump’s victory was “illegitimate,” a belief which has no basis in reality when you consider he had well over 60 million votes and won the Electoral College.
  • She then said she refuses to accept another four years of a Trump Presidency as if she has anything to say about it relative to 120 million voters.

Delusional, bitter, and still bitching two plus years after the fact that she lost to a political novice. Please just go away and leave us alone, we need people in office that come up with forward looking solutions not backward looking resentment.

3) Let’s finish up today with another loony idea and another bad set of priorities, this all from current Democratic Presidential candidate Elizabeth Warren. According to Ryan Saavedra, writing for the Daily Wire website:

  • Warren believes that inmates in prison are “entitled” to get transgender surgery that is paid for by American taxpayers.
  • She made this assertion and view during a recent interview on CNN.
  • This is a reversal of a previous stand where she said it was wrong to have taxpayers pay for this surgery.
  • Specifically: “I believe that everyone is entitled to medical care and medical care that they need and that includes people who are transgender who, um, it is time for them to have [transgender] surgery. I just think that’s important.”
  • She had recently proclaimed that if elected, “I will direct the Bureau of Prisons to end the Trump Administration’s dangerous policy of imprisoning transgender people in facilities based on their sex assigned at birth.”
So much insanity with this, tough to figure out where to begin:

  • Do these prisoners only have a right or are “entitled” to transgender surgery at taxpayer expense while they are in prison or should they get it when they are out of prison?
  • Why are only prisoners, people who have broken the laws of society, entitled to taxpayer funded transgender surgery and not those peaceful citizens that have broken no laws?
  • Why do prisoners have the right to this non-life saving, optional surgery when tens of millions of Americans have no access or cannot afford access to life sustaining medical and health care in this country, shouldn’t that be a higher priority than a minuscule set of people in prison who are not in need of life saving surgery?
  • Where in the Constitution does it say that these folks in prison have a right or are “entitled” to this type of surgery?
As we have said so many times in this blog, current politicians have such a sad and pathetic set of priorities. Millions of American are homeless and hungry, untold millions are in need of drug addiction help, our roads and bridges are falling apart, Social Security and Medicare are hurtling towards financial insolvency, our public schools for the most part do a terrible job educating our kids, issues far more important and far reaching than transgender surgery for prisoners.

These are some serious issues to be faced and addressed in this country. But Warren, like most of her peers in the political class, have no clue how to fix them, As a result they fixate on trivial matters such as funding transgender surgery with taxpayer money, an issue, if it even is an issue, that affects a tiny, tiny fraction of Americans.

More bad priorities, more delusions, and more lies from the American political class, a pretty standard day in the neighborhood.
