October, 2018, Part 4, I Am A Global Warming Doubter and A Believer In Science: Who Needs Paris (And Its Climate Agreement) and Screwing The Poor In California

Every month we have enough material to return to a continuing theme in this blog, namely that “I am a global warming doubter AND a believer in science.” This became of interest because of people like Al Gore who fanatically and verbosely claimed that you had to be an idiot to not believe in manmade global warming. It has been my life belief that anyone that is that loud and that obnoxious is hiding something, that rather than argue facts and reality it is better to beat down and insult anyone who disagrees.

As we have dove into the whole issue of man made global warming, or its new rebranded title of climate change, we found that Al Gore and people like him were guilty of a number of things:
  • Ignoring science and realities that did not support their opinions and positions.
  • Rather than have an adult conversation about climate, these types of advocates like Gore sank to the level of insulting those who dared look at ALL science by calling them a variety of names including racists, homophobes, terrorists, flat earth believers, and other slanderous names.
  • Continuing to insist that politicians step up their intrusions into our lives with higher taxes, more regulations, and more control on our freedoms and standards of living based on a shaky theory at best.
To see the past posts and the multitude of evidence that we have compiled that showed it is perfectly okay to be a global warming doubter and a believer in science, enter the phrase "global warming doubter” in the search box above or go through the monthly historical post listed on the right side of this page.

Thus, let’s see the latest facts and science that prove you can be a global warming doubter and a believer in science, regardless of what Al Gore proclaims.

1) Just a couple of quickies today to wrap this month’s global warming discussion. We have previously discussed a few topics as they relate to the infamous United Nations Paris Climate Agreement:
  • Trump was right to pull the U.S. out of the agreement since we as nation would have made all of the sacrifices while the rest of the world would make minor, if any, energy sacrifices.
  • For instance, Pakistan’s pledge in the treaty was that they would reduce their carbon footprint an unspecified amount at an unspecified point in the future, hardly taking a bullet for the cause.
  • India and China, along with other countries, continue to build thousands and thousands of coal burning power plants that would have wiped out any carbon reductions that the U.S. would have incurred.
  • The agreement had no teeth in that there was no way to punish any country who did not meet their goals, it was more of a gentleman’s agreement.
  • And as we recently reported, only nine out of the dozens and dozens of countries who actually signed the agreement have actually met their assigned carbon reduction goals, only a few years out from the agreement.
Trump, of course, got brutalized for the decision even though it was best for the American taxpayer and our economy. So how is the U.S. doing even though it is no longer bound by the agreement? Have we allowed our carbon footprint to explode, endangering the future of every living thing on Earth?

Joseph Curl, writing for the Daily Wire website on October 28,2018, brings us up to date with the latest official statistics:
  • Despite a red hot economy which should have resulted in higher and higher carbon emission levels, according to the EPA after Trump’s first year in office, our country’s greenhouse emissions actually went down despite not being a part of the Paris Climate Agreement.
  • The EPA report found the U.S. carbon emissions went down 2.7% last year.
  • A lot of this decrease was because emissions from U.S. power plants went down an amazing 4.5%.
  • All of which makes Al Gore’s prediction/statement back in June 2017 sound so stupid today, another global warming prediction that apparently was also grossly wrong: "I think it [pulling out of the Paris agreement] was reckless. I think it was indefensible. It undermines America's standing in the world. It threatens the ability of humanity to solve the climate crisis in time."
  • Another, non-EPA report by the U.S. Energy Information Administration, found that U.S. carbon emissions from major energy sources dropped to the lowest levels since 1993 in 2017.
  • Still another study from the June 2018 BP Statistical Review of Global Energy found that the U.S. led the world in reducing carbon emissions in 2017.
  • The American Enterprise Institute (AEI) estimates that the U.S. reduced its carbon emissions by 42 million tons in 2017, far ahead of the second leading reducer, which, believe it or not, was the Ukraine, at a 20 million ton reduction.
  • Canada, Spain, the European Union, and China, all of whom signed the Paris agreement, all saw their carbon emissions rise last year.
  • China saw its 2017 carbon emissions go up a whopping 120 million tons, three times the size of the emission reduction of the U.S.
  • The European Union increased its 2017 carbon emissions by about the same amount, 40 millions, that the U.S. reduced its carbon footprint in 2017.
So, Trump pulls the U.S. out of the Paris Climate Agreement, and despite a red hot economy, the U.S. leads the world in reducing its carbon footprint. Many of those that actually signed the agreement actually added tremendous amounts of carbon emissions to the environment. Go figure, I guess Al Gore and global warming advocates were wrong AGAIN, when they predicted that exiting the Paris agreements would kill off humanity.

The Paris agreement was a joke, an ego trip for Obama to strut around with in his pocket. It has no enforcement teeth, it was vague and non-committal in many areas, and it allowed the fastest growing economies, e.g. India and China, to bring havoc from an emissions perspective while the U.S. and its taxpayers would have paid the price.

2) The Freedom News Report website had a recent article that shows how out of control global warming enthusiasm is bad both logically and financially relative to the less wealthy in the world:
  • The state government in California recently enacted legislation that would force the entire state to be carbon emission free by the year 2045 as it relates to its use of electricity.
  • In other words, all electricity generated in the state by that date would have to come from renewable resources, e.g. solar and wind.
  • The state’s governor, Jerry Brown, fancies himself a sovereign nation at least relative to the bogus Paris Climate Agreement we just finished discussing, claiming that his state was “sending a message to California and to the world that we’re going to meet the Paris agreement.”
  • Given that California residents currently pay, on average, 60% more for electricity, and this proposed transformation will further increase the state’s power costs, this plan/dream will not come cheaply.
  • For example, since renewable sources of power, solar and wind, are not constant and vary according to the current weather, massive amounts of storage would have to be set up to store non-renewable electricity generation for times when the wind was not blowing or the sun was not shining, further increasing the cost of the state’s electricity, the cost of which has been rising five times the national average over the past years.
  • Research by the Boston based Clean Air Task Force estimates that for California to reach just 80% of its energy from carbon free sources, somehow a whopping 9.6 terawatt hours worth of electrical storage would have to be put online.
  • With today’s technology, 9.6 terawatt hours of storage would require the purchase and installation of 500 million Tesla Powerwalls which currently cost $6,000….not including installation in order to constantly supply the state’s 40 million residents with uninterrupted electricity.
  • As an aside, one wonder where the state would actually place 500 million Powerwalls, that would take up a lot of real estate.
  • In today’s dollars, this comes out to a cost of $3 TRILLION or about $75,000 per resident (excluding installation costs).
  • Even if you could find a way over time to reduce this cost by say 80%, you are still looking at a per resident cost of $15,000, the burden of which would be paid by the state’s resident’s.
  • Thus, a California family of four would be on the hook for about $60,000 if the cost of this law’s impacts could be reduced by 80%, more than $60,000 if the cost did not come down that much.
  • At that point, I would bet that the wealthier residents would say screw that and would install their own solar and wind projects to generate the electricity they need for themselves, something they could do for far less than $75,000 per person, further burdening the less wealthy residents who cannot afford their own power installation.
  • Which is exactly is being anticipated by a coalition called “The Two Hundred,” a group of civic organizations who lobby for and try to protect the interests of less wealthy citizens.
  • This coalition realizes that the burden for this ambitious and ego driven plan will eventually fall to those in the state that can least afford higher and higher electricity rates, a situation that will get worse with this carbon free by 2045 law and thus, they have filed suit to stop this plan.
  • In the lawsuit, the group correctly claims that these types of policies “have a disparate negative impact on minority communities and are discriminatory against minority communities and their members.”
  • Furthermore, “Every time they pass new regulations, the burden falls on the people who can least afford it,” Two Hundred representative John Gamboa reportedly said. “That’s the history of the environmental movement: They care more about spotted owls than brown babies.”
  • The article points out that Germany’s effort to get to more renewable energy sources has seen the average cost of electricity go up 50% in the past ten years, a harbinger of what would happen under this new California law.
The U.S. is doing just fine, in fact better than anyone else, in reducing its carbon footprint even though it is not part of the Paris Climate Agreement. And California is screwing its lower income citizens just to chase what is becoming more and more likely, the global warming myth. More myth busting next month.

February, 2018, Part 2, I Am A Global Warming Doubter and a Believer In Science: Stupid In Washington State and Censoring Those that Disagree

As we have dove into the whole issue of manmade global warming, or its new rebranded title of climate change, we found that Al Gore and people like him were guilty of a number of things:
  • Ignoring science and realities that did not support their opinions and positions.
  • Rather than have an adult conversation about climate, these types of advocates like Gore sank to the level of insulting those who dared look at ALL science by calling them a variety of names including racists, homophobes, terrorists, flat earth believers, and other slanderous names.
  • Continuing to insist that politicians step up their intrusions into our lives with higher taxes, more regulations, and more control of our freedoms and standards of living based on a shaky theory at best.
To see the past posts and the multitude of evidence that we have compiled that showed it is perfectly okay to be a global warming doubter and a believer in science, enter the phrase "global warming doubter” in the search box above or go through the monthly historical posts listed on the right side of this page.

Thus, let’s see the latest facts and science that prove you can be a global warming doubter and a believer in science, regardless of what Al Gore proclaims.

1) Despite the fact that global warming by any measure stopped about twenty years ago, global warming advocates refuse to give up. Despite the fact that every global warming forecast model over the years, from a wide variety of entities, were so wrong in predicting the earth's temperatures, global warming advocates refuse to give up. Given that wildfires, hurricanes, droughts, and other natural phenomena show no distressful climate changes, global warming advocates refuse to give up.

A perfect example of this refusal to believe science, data, and realities, is the current set of politicians in the state of Washington, led by its governor, Jay Inslee. The governor is pushing state global warming legislation that would in theory counteract manmade global warming and climate change, a problem that is becoming more and more of a myth everyday. The legislation would impose a carbon tax on carbon based fuels in the state.

But a February 1, 2018 article by Benjamin Zycher, writing for the National Review, showed that this inane plan is, “A Washington State Carbon Tax: All Pain, No Gain Washington Governor Jay Inslee:”
  • Even with very optimistic assumptions, the Governor’s plan would reduce the state’s greenhouse emissions enough to drop the overall temperature of the Earth by 2/1000 of a degree.
  • Thus, Washington state taxpayers would be more heavily taxed for a potential, best case impact on the Earth’s temperature of, again, 2/1000 of a degree.
  • Oh, and by the way, this reduction is not accomplished in a year, or two years, or a dozen years, it would not be accomplished until the year 2100, 82 years from now, 82 years in which Washington state taxpayers would be paying more in taxes for virtually no positive impact.
  • These estimates come from the EPA’s climate model, using very favorable assumptions, certainly not an entity famous for being a global warming doubter.
  • The article goes on to point out that two other famous efforts efforts to reduce carbon emissions, Obama’s strategies on climate control, which would have reduced the Earth’s temps by a whopping 25/1000 of a degree, and the Paris climate agreement that would have reduce the Earth’s temps by only 17/100 of a degree, according to the EPA models.
  • This assumes that numbers this small can be accurately read within in statistical variation, i.e. the noise of the measurement process might make any accurate reading that is so small impossible.
  • And replacing current fuel sources with so-called renewable fuel sources is not nearly as “clean” and Earth friendly as people like Inslee would claim if you look at the whole renewable energy provisioning process: there is heavy metal pollution from mining and the production of wind turbines and solar panels, there are negative impacts in nature on bird populations and land use, etc.
  • And the article correctly pointed out, as we have often in this blog, that despite the increase in greenhouse emissions over the past century, the impact on sea levels, polar ice caps, tornado activity, hurricane frequency and intensity, wildfires, droughts, and flooding has been consistent with long term trends over the centuries and the models that forecasted dire environmental impacts because of global warming have all proven to be wrong.
But these realities continue to elude the minds of politicians like Inslee. He wants to subject his constituents to higher taxes, upheavals in their lifestyles, and less freedom in their lives for what might be, under the most optimistic assumption set possible, an eight decade gain of 2/1000 of a degree benefit. Insanity.

Maybe Mr. Zycher, the author of the article sums up this political insanity best: “Climate change caused by GHG [greenhouse gas] emissions might prove to be a serious problem. It might prove to be a minor problem, and it might prove to be beneficial on net. We simply do not know, and the argument that very large costs ought to be imposed by climate policies upon the economy — that is, upon actual people — with trivial or unmeasurable benefits is deeply problematic. More research, more technological advance, and adaptation over time are likely to prove far wiser.”

But as we all know, associating the term “wiser” with any American politician is usually a fool’s bet.

2) Despite massive doses of reality (e.g. there have NOT been massive increases in the intensity and frequency of tornadoes, droughts, hurricanes, wildfires despite what global warming advocates claimed would happen) and massive failures of global warming forecasts to ever be correct, manmade global warming/climate change advocates still refuse to believe the reality in front of their faces and computer models.

Thus, rather than having open minds and admitting that maybe, just maybe they were wrong, they often go on the attack and try to suppress the freedom of speech rights of others and the sources of other statistical and scientific evidence that refute what they have spent their lives and careers on falsely defending.

Such was the case when they threatened and demanded that the American Museum of Natural reject funding and donations from people that dare not blindly believe what they believe. They would rather censor the opinions of others than engage in an adult conversation that considers all of the available climate data and research, as the following letter illustrates:

“The American Museum of Natural History in New York (AMNH) is a treasured and influential institution. Museums must be protected as sites that build understanding, help the public make meaning, and serve the common good. We are concerned that the vital role of science education institutions will be eroded by a loss of public trust if museums are associated with individuals and organizations known for rejecting climate science, opposing environmental regulation and clean energy initiatives, and blocking efforts to reduce pollutants and greenhouse gases.

Rebekah Mercer and the Mercer Family Foundation, political kingmakers and the financiers behind Breitbart News, are major funders of climate science denial projects such as the Heartland Institute, where they have donated nearly $6 million since 2008. The Mercer Family Foundation is also a top donor to the C02 Coalition and the Oregon Institute of Science and Medicine, institutions that assert that an increase in C02 emissions from fossil fuels will be a great benefit to plant and animal life on Earth. The renewed attention to Mercer Family Foundation chair Rebekah Mercer, who sits on the AMNH Board of Trustees (since 2013), spurs us to reissue a statement that scientists first co-signed in 2015:

“When some of the biggest contributors to climate change and funders of misinformation on climate science sponsor exhibitions in museums of science and natural history, they undermine public confidence in the validity of the institutions responsible for transmitting scientific knowledge.”

Since that original letter, we have seen welcome changes as many museums updated their policies related to fossil fuel financial interests; the American Museum of Natural History increased its focus on climate change concerns and global sustainability in its investments and business plans. But given the prior AMNH funding and board membership associated with Exxon Corporation and David Koch, the prominence of Rebekah Mercer and the Mercer Family Foundation as current AMNH donors and on the Board of Trustees can prompt skepticism and hunts for signs of corruption, no matter the quality of the museum priorities and exhibits overall.

Last week thousands of people shared a Twitter comment by environmental economist Jonah Busch, PhD, who pointed out misleading information on climate science in an Exxon-funded exhibit at the American Museum of Natural History. To its credit, the AMNH’s response was swift: it committed to updating the outdated information to reflect the best available science. But the initial online public anger showed that trust in the museum is undermined by the museum’s association with climate science opponents.

The most important asset any museum has is its credibility. This can be damaged by ties to donors and board members who are publicly known for investing in climate science obfuscation and opposing environmental solutions.

We ask the American Museum of Natural History, and all public science museums, to end ties to anti-science propagandists and funders of climate science misinformation, and to have Rebekah Mercer leave the American Museum of Natural History Board of Trustees.”

Typical global warming advocate strategy: if challenged on a statistical and scientific level, look to just shut up the opposition rather than continue to look for the scientific truth, as practiced by non-scientists like Al Gore and Barack Obama. To these people, the truth is secondary to not being proven wrong.

November, 2017, Part 7, Political Class INsanity: California Imploding, Murder on the EPA Express, and More Obama Chicago Political Tactics.

It is the beginning of another month which means it is again time to review the latest political class insanity from Washington and around the world. Political class insanity takes many forms including the wasting of taxpayer wealth, criminal fraud within government programs, inane and stupid political quotes and actions, the inability to create and implement effective and efficient government programs, stupid and ill performing economic policies and strategies, and other forms of insanity that continue to evolve and surprise and shock us.

1) Regardless of whether or not your preferred candidates won an election, the truth is that elections determine who gets to run the country. It has been like that since the beginning. If your candidate lost, well, too bad. Maybe for the next election you should take a more active role in helping the candidate you support get elected to further the positions you hold.

But apparently that is not the case in today’s society where losing an election prompts people to threaten murder to stop the people who elected their candidates from exercising their rights and positions via the ballot box. According to a recent Washington Free Beacon report, EPA head Scott Pruitt is receiving an unheard amount of death threats since taking over his current position within the Trump administration.

These threats, from Americans who are obviously unhappy about the 2016 Presidential election, have resulted in the Pruitt having to have a 24 hour security detail assigned to protect him. The Wall Street Journal has reported that there have been more than “70 credible threats against EPA staffers, with a disproportionate number menacing Administrator Scott Pruitt and his family,” since Trump took office. Reform in Washington is always difficult, but at the Environmental Protection Agency it’s also dangerous. The EPA responded by beefing up his security detail, but Mr. Pruitt’s political opponents are now trying to hold these warranted precautions against him.” These threats have been verified by the EPA inspector general and has resulted in the American taxpayer forking over $2 million a year for the security protection Pruitt needs.

Great, childish people are disappointed by the election results and it results in the American taxpayer being hit with a multi million bill. Credible threats from liberal opponents have resulted in the EPA’s inspector general’s office recommending 24/7 security detail for Pruitt, which is costing taxpayers $2 million per year.

A seriously insane and sad commentary on the manners, maturity, and thought processes in this country today. Do not get what you want, threaten murder. Crazy.

2) We have often talked about how lowly voters and citizens rank the favorability of our current set of politicians. We generally view them as inept, out of touch, greedy, and intrusive into our lives and our freedoms. Unfortunately, they have generally rigged the election processes and manage to usually keep themselves in office despite the fact that we despise their performances while in office.

Some people in California having gotten so fed up with the current set of politicians running the state government in California, a position that we have proven to be very valid over the years based on the out of touch incompetence of those same politicians, that a group of citizens is working on freeing themselves from those politicians:
  • An effort is underway to break California up into three different states.
  • One of the new states woulds comprise most of northern California including Sacramento and San Francisco, a second state would be along the central coast and include Los Angeles, and a third state would have the southern coast along with San Diego and the eastern part of the state.
  • This effort recently passed a court test that resulted in a ruling that would allow them to begin gathering signatures that they hope will get the proposed three state plan on the ballot in the state.
  • The plan organizers need to get over 300,000 valid signatures by April 23, 2018 in order to get the proposal on the ballot in the fall of 2018.
  • If that ballot measure passes, the proposal would be brought before Congress.
  • The reason given is that the state has become so large and so diverse that it is currently unmanageable and that going to a three state solution would provide more local say and control to for citizens.
  • Not surprising, some oppose such a division, including political analyst Steven Maviglio: “Creating three new governments, three new legislatures, three new governors and then having to disrupt what we have as a state all our prison systems, our higher education systems, I think diversity is what makes California great and this would actually ruin it.”
What Mr. Maviglio does not realize is that many people might actually be willing to go through the trouble that he lays out, that life under a faraway state government is not working for them. The high state tax burden has not enabled the central state government to provide good schools, safe infrastructure, etc. and that maybe there is a better way to gain control of their lives, their fates and their freedom. Time will tell but given the state of the country and our disdain for incumbent political class, I would not bet against the three state solution being proposed. Take a look at Spain and the Catalonia situation, people just want to be free, be it a small California town or Barcelona.

3) It has always been our opinion that the Obama administration was one of the most inept, corrupt, and lawless administration of all time. Obama took the traditional low life, dirty set of Chicago political game plans and brought it to Washington. We have already documented the many instances of unlawful and unConstitutional actions that were taken while he was President:

And recently, Bryan Saavedra, writing for the Daily Wire website, documented another low life Chicago-type political action that his administration undertook:
  • An FBI confidential informant’s lawyer claims her client had information on how “Russian nuclear officials engaged in bribery, kickbacks, money laundering, and extortion in their attempts to corner the U.S. uranium market” and how “under the Obama administration revealed the threats her client received from the Obama administration if he didn’t keep quiet during the 2016 presidential election."
  • The client had started a lawsuit to get the information on Russia activities made public but was forced to drop the suit when lawyers form Loretta Lynch’s Justice Department pressured him.
  • Specifically, the client was told “that if he didn’t dismiss the case his reputation and liberty were in jeopardy.”
  • The HIll has reported that the lawyer for the whistleblower has documentation which prove that the Obama administration desperately wanted to shut up her client since the civil suit would have likely taken place during the 2016 election cycle and would likely have a large impact on the election: “Toensing [their lawyer] said she also possesses memos that recount how the Justice Department last year threatened her client when he attempted to file a lawsuit that could have drawn attention to the Russian corruption during the 2016 presidential race as well as helped him recover some of the money Russians stole from him through kickbacks during the FBI probe.”
  • The pressure from the Obama camp forced her client to eventually sign a nondisclosure document to shut him up, a document that has snow been voided by the Trump Department of Justice to enable the informant to testify before Congress.
  • He had to remain silent since the Obama people threatened his freedom and the threat of bringing a criminal lawsuit against him.
So sad when the government threatens citizens with jail and safety for trying to tell the truth and expose corruption at the highest levels of government. But in Obama’s case, it is the Chicago way, integrity and the Constitution be damned.
That will do it for today’s insanity: murder threats now okay if your candidate loses an election, possible secession in California and more Obama Chicago thug politics. More insanity to follow.

February, 2017, I Am A Global Warming Doubter and A Believer In Science: More Bad Forecasts, Lying at The EPA and a Lost Doubter Warrior

Every month we have enough material to return to a continuing theme in this blog, namely that “I am a global warming doubter AND a believer in science.”This became of interest because of people like Al Gore who fanatically and verbosely claimed that you had to be an idiot to not believe in manmade global warming. It has been my life belief that anyone that is that loud and that obnoxious is hiding something, that rather than argue facts and reality it is better to beat down and insult anyone who disagrees.

Thus, let’s see the latest facts and science that prove you can be a global warming doubter and a believer in science, regardless of what Al Gore proclaims:

1) An article on the WND website by Bob Unruh on January 3, 2017 contain two charts that showed the current ice volume at the North Pole and how that volume changed every month over time:

CICE_combine_thick_SM_EN_20170102TWO

Two realities kind of jump out at you from these charts:
  1. There is still a lot of ice at the North Pole.
  2. And that total volume of ice, while it changes seasonally throughout the year, has been basically unchanged since 2004, 13 years ago.
So it is still cold, it is still icy, it is still nasty up north. But over the years, what have the global warming advocates predicted would happen up north:
  • Al Gore predicted in 2009 that “the entire north polar ice cap during some of the summer months could be completely ice-free within the next five to seven years.” That did not happen.
  • In Gore’s 2006 documentary, “An Inconvenient Truth,” he predicted increasing temperatures would cause earth’s oceans to rise by 20 feet. It did not happen.
  • Mark Hertsgaard predicted in 2013 in an article, “The End of the Arctic? Ocean Could be Ice Free by 2015,” the same thing. It did not happen.
  • The BBC predicted that the Arctic summers would be ice free by 2013. It did not happen.
  • The Sierra Club Canada was even more dramatic, and even more wrong, when on 2013 they predicted that the Arctic would be ice free in….2013. It did not happen.
The bottom line on both these predictions and the hundreds or thousands of other predictions put forth by global warming advocates and “experts” is that they have all been wrong and wrong dramatically. So why should global warming doubters like myself believe any predictions of gloom and doom when all previous predictions of gloom and doom have been pathetically off base? Shouldn’t the effort be on finding out why global warming, and now climate change, forecasts never pan out the way their advocates say rather continuing to disparage and slander those that simply point out, hey, you are always wrong so why should we believe you now?

2) The Conservative Daily Post reporting in late December that the EPA’s highest ranking and leading expert on “climate change,” John C. Beale was sentenced to 32 months in Federal prison. His crime: he was caught lying to his EPA bosses that while employed by the EPA he was also working for the CIA as a spy in Pakistan, which was a totally false reality. Apparently, he pulled off this scam for 15 years, making him what I would call a professional liar.

Now, obviously you cannot condemn an entire set of people who are global warming advocates for one of their own that lies about where he was and what he was doing for 15 years. But if the EPA is so inept at understanding this preposterous lie, makes you wonder what other preposterous lies it also does not understand.

3) Judith Curry has been a long time global warming doubter as a fully tenured professor at the Georgia Tech University. She has taken on any number of famous global warming advocates and taken them apart with solid scientific research and reasoning.

Unfortunately, according to a recent article on the MRCTV website by Sam Dorman on January 5, 2017, she is leaving the world of academia and entering the private business world due to what she sees is the total scientific failing of those involved with global warming:
  • She is quoted as saying that the private sector “seems like a more ‘honest’ place for a scientist working in a politicized field than universities or government labs.”
  • Curry resigned her tenured position as of Jan. 1, with “no intention of seeking another academic” position in a university or government agency, writing on her blog that she felt “growing disenchantment with universities, the academic field of climate science and scientists.”
  • In what she called a “politicized academic establishment” for climate science, there are very limited ways for students to receive funding, get papers published and obtain prestigious positions if they dare to doubt global warming/climate change dogma.
  • In her view, this bastardization of science forces students into a conflict between maintaining their scientific integrity and “career suicide” and as a result she has advised students to avoid the “craziness” of climate science.
  • Curry has also been a critic of political attempts to prevent climate change, reasoning that even if the global warming advocates are correct, policies put forth by people like Obama are unlikely to make any difference.
  • In a recent Fox News interview, Msl Curry told host Tucker Carlson that she was sick and tired of politicization of global warming in academia: “I’ve been vilified by some of my colleagues who are activists and don’t like anybody challenging their big story. I walk around with knives sticking out of my back. In the university environment I felt like I was just beating my head against the wall.”
  • In her blog, she continued her critique of the climate science field: “A deciding factor was that I no longer know what to say to students and postdocs regarding how to navigate the CRAZINESS in the field of climate science. Research and other professional activities are professionally rewarded only if they are channeled in certain directions approved by a politicized academic establishment — funding, ease of getting your papers published, getting hired in prestigious positions, appointments to prestigious committees and boards, professional recognition, etc. How young scientists are to navigate all this is beyond me, and it often becomes a battle of scientific integrity versus career suicide.”
Curry went on in her blog to plead for what we have been asking for over the past few years: an adult discussion of all of the data, all of the research, all of the science to determine what is actually going on. This is opposed to the current reality where global warming advocates only look at the data and “science” that supports their views, views that liberal universities and politicians are more than filling to fund and support for their own selfish purposes. An honest discussion, nothing more. Unfortunately, an advocate for the scientific method and truth and honest in research is leaving the battle.

That will do it for this update to the theme, "I am a global warming doubter and a believer in science.” A true scientist gets frustrated right out of her career, lying at the EPA, and false predictions of Arctic doom do not happen. More next month.

September, 2016, Part 5, Political Class Insanity: Sexual Harassment at the EPA, Taxpayer Wealth to Morocco, A Guilty Politician and More

The current monthly record for the number of days needed to cover one month's worth of insanity is ten. We almost equaled that record last month when we needed nine days to cover one month’s worth of political class insanity. There is a very good chance that the ten day record could fall this month since as we get closer and closer to the election, the volume of ineptness grows almost exponentially.

But today and for all of the posts this month, let’s start off with a welcome piece of honest political dialog. It comes from a State Department spokesperson. Mark Toner, who is about to start the daily State Department press briefing. In a joking matter, he makes the following quote: "Welcome to the State Department. I think we have some interns in the back. Welcome. Good to see you in this exercise in transparency and democracy."

He then burst out laughing at his own quote, indicating he also knew what a joke the Obama administration has been, especially Mr. Toner’s State Department, when it comes to cover ups, lack of transparency, denial of Freedom of Information Act requests, the prosecution of whistleblowers, etc. But at least it was a little refreshing to finally hear some actual honesty out of Washington as we see from the actual clip of the news conference:

With that context of honesty, let’s see what other insanity has been going down:

1) We have often discussed what a sorry state the Pentagon accounting processes are. Just this week we discussed the scandal where Pentagon government credit cards had been used at strip joints and casinos. We have often reported on the reality that the accounting practices are so bad at the Defense Department that auditors have declared that the Pentagon books are so bad that cannot even be audited to find the problems. All of this incompetence probably leads to massive wasting of taxpayer wealth and outright fraud.

Thomas Phippen, writing for the Daily Caller on August 16, 29016, uncovered yet another Pentagon financial screw up:
  • Over a six year period, the Defense Department improperly moved $146 billion from its war readiness account to pay for its basic military operations.
  • The General Accountability Office (GAO) uncovered the accounting shenanigans: “GAO found that DOD used its authorities to realign about $146.9 billion of its funding from fiscal years 2009 through 2015.”
  • The war readiness funds, the Overseas Contingency Operations, is supposed to be used to give the Pentagon operations flexibility to deal with emergency situations that require immediate attention before approval is obtained from Congress.
  • This fund is not subject to budget cuts and Congressional oversight, it is supposed to be used only to immediately neutralize foreign military threats.
Thus, it appears that the Defense Department was gerry rigging the budget process to counter the will of Congress and the American people by funneling money to basic operations that had seen budget cuts by Congress. Another example of a government bureaucracy that is out of control.

2) Government is supposed to be honest and pure and an example of integrity for Americans. Of course, any reader of this blog knows that this ideal is far from the truth. And recent sexual harassment charges at the EPA prove that this Federal organization has some serious behavior problems.

Lachlan Markay, writing for the Washington Free Beacon on August 15, 2016, reported that:
  • The EPA inspector general’s office announced that it was opening an investigation into serial sexual sexual harassment and retaliation at the EPA.
  • Specifically, a Congressional committee found that: “Senior EPA leadership systematically pursued retaliatory actions against employees involved in investigating sexual harassment cases. These investigators allege that Susan Hedman, the Region 5 Administrator, was personally involved in retaliation against them.”
  • The committee heard testimony “from multiple former employees in EPA’s Great Lakes National Program Office who said they had either witnessed or been informed of repeated instances of sexual harassment by an EPA scientist.” and that an official at the EPA “found that multiple female employees had been involved and that such harassment by this scientist and it had been ongoing for the better part of a decade with the full knowledge of the managers of the division and involved many young female interns in their early to mid twenties.”
  • The EPA managers involved are also accused of retaliation against those that brought the harassment charges: “That punishment has included having my primary duties stripped away from me, effectively being marginalized and ignored by the managers who had permitted the sexual harassment to occur until they were confronted by the Office of Civil Rights (OCR) through an investigation in which I was instrumental in initiating.”
Nice place to work, get sexually harassed and then find your career sabotaged by those who harassed you. As usual with politicians and bureaucrats, nowhere does it appear that anyone who harassed women and broke the law faced any kind of disciplinary action or were fired. That only occurs to regular Americans who break the law.

3) While it appears no one as of yet has been punished for the EPA sexual harassment, there is some good news from a justice perspective that recently came out of Pennsylvania. This type of good news is so rare that it should be celebrated: a politician who broke the law is actually going to pay the price for her law breaking. How refreshing!

The CBS TV affiliate in Philadelphia recently reported that Kathleen Lane, the state attorney general, was found guilty of all nine counts brought against her in a perjury and obstruction of justice case. As a result of the guilty findings, she resigned her post as the state’s top law enforcement official.

The charges included leaking a 2009 grand jury probe results and then lying about her actions in an effort to discredit a rival prosecutor. At least two of the guilty counts were felonies. Two state Supreme Court justices also lost their jobs as a result of these criminal activities.

I guess there is hope if judges and state attorney generals can be found guilty of breaking the law and face the required and necessary consequences. It is just that it happens so infrequently that one often loses hope that we are living in a fair and just society.

4) Here is a depressing little statistic that was just announced by the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS): the number of government employees at all levels of government in this country far outnumber the number of Americans working in the manufacturing sector of the economy. The BLS announced that 12,281,000 people work in manufacturing jobs in this country today while 22,213,000 work for some level of government across the country. This is a whopping difference of almost 10,000,000 people.

But this is part of a long term trend that has been going on for decades:

Since government employees do not create wealth, they are supported by the wealth created and paid for (taxes) by those working in the private sector, the above chart is not a good economic trend. As more and more people end up working in jobs that do not create wealth, they need to tax those that do create wealth more and more to keep government viable. This reduces overall economic growth and makes us all poorer.

5) We run a monthly series of posts along the theme. “I am a global warming doubter and a believer in science.” Every month we present research, scientific analysis, and basic climate realities that prove that the concept of man made global warming is very likely nothing more than a myth perpetrated by scientists and politicians that are using this myth to improve their own careers and well being. Thus, we have continually asked for an adult dialog that considers ALL of the available science and data before embarking on government policies that will make all Americans poorer.

Given all of these realities, you can see how we think the following government expenditure is insane and useless. According to Michael Bastasch, writing for the Daily Caller on August 12, 2016, the State Department is handing out almost $400,000 for ideas on how to fight global warming….in Morocco: “Morocco and the U.S. share a strong commitment to combating climate change which they are tackling aggressively at the international, national, and local levels.”

Seriously, we are sending $400,000 to a third world country to work on a potential myth of global warming when Americans are going homeless, hungry, drug addicted, etc.? Even if Morocco converted its entire economy to clean energy it would not make a nit of difference in humanity’s carbon footprint. So why do it? Insane waste of money for no benefit in return.

Another day, another varied set of political class insanity and idiocy: wasting money on nothing in Morocco, way too many government workers who do nothing to expand the economy, sexual harassment at the EPA misappropriating budget at the Pentagon, and finally a criminal politician gets what she deserves. More insanity tomorrow.

April, 2016, Part 3, I am a Global Doubter and A Believer In Science: The Science Is Still Not Settled, More Coal Jobs Lost, and More

Thus, let’s see the latest facts and science that prove you can be a global warming doubter and a believer in science, regardless of what Al Gore proclaims:

1) Yesterday, we talked about how the “science is settled” assertion by global warming advocates is their rallying cry, their claim that you would have to be a fool to believe that manmade global warming does not exist and is not a threat to humanity because scientists believe it is. Yesterday, and many times before in this blog, we have quoted, cited, and discussed dozens, if not hundreds, of scientists that would dispute that assertion based on real science and the realities of today.

To that list of global warming doubters we can now add another scientist, Dr. Robert M.Carter, a geologist and professor emeritus at James Cook University in Australia and his recent quote: “We’re not dealing with a scientific issue. We haven’t been dealing with a scientific issue now for the past 15 or so years. We’re dealing with a determined political issue. It’s a campaign-cause.” In other words, global warming has become a political crusade, not a scientific crusade in the eyes of many scientists.

His quote comes from a recent article on the WND website which was discussing the soon to be released movie, “Climate Hustle.” That article can be read at:

2) We have previously discussed the reality that Obama’s Clean Power Plan, a renegade piece of regulation that will decimate the U.S. coal industry, have minimal effect on the environment, will dramatically raise electricity costs in this country, and will put the country at a severe economic disadvantage relative to the rest of the world. We have shown how this plan and other inane Obama energy initiatives have caused widespread unemployment throughout the traditional coal states of Kentucky, Wyoming, and West Virginia, again, for no significant environment impact.

But according to a recent Heritage Foundation report, it is not only the traditional coal states and their citizens that are being devastated by Obama energy policies:
  • Chuck DeVore, writing for Heritage on March 14, 2016, discussed the reality that Obama’s Clean Energy Plan will wipe out many Navajo Nation jobs.
  • According to Arizona State Senator Carlyle Begay, coal mining is critical to the economic vitality of the Navajo Nation: “The Navajo Nation’s unemployment rate is over 50 percent. Currently, revenue from coal represents 60 percent of the Navajo Nation’s general funds and operating budget. Absent political restrictions on the use of coal, coal mining and the Navajo Generating Station on the Navajo Nation’s land would be expected to boost its economy by over $13 billion over the next 25 years.”
  • The coal industry is responsible for over 2,500 of the best paying jobs within the Navajo Nation which has very high unemployment levels to begin with.
  • But those jobs have been disappearing under the Obama administration with coal production form the Nation down to about 8-10 million tons of coal a year from 13-16 million tons a year before Obama and his EPA intruded into the market and industry.
Just another example of needlessly disrupting Americans’ lives and jobs for a plan that even the head of the EPA says will have minimal, if any, good impacts on the environment or so-called global warming. Just another example of an Obama policy that is all bluster and no benefit, just like Obama Care, Dodd-Frank, etc.

3) One of the reasons that Obama and his EPA are pushing for the destruction of the American coal industry is that he thinks it will set a good example for the rest of the world. Never mind the economic devastation of American families’ financial futures, he wants to set a good example, hoping that other countries will follow his lead to clean energy. Never mind that the rest of the world is planning on building at least 2,400 new coal fired power plants in the next few years, wiping out any minimal benefit of closing a handful of America coal plants.

And if he had read an April 9, 2016 article by Nancy Hayes on the website:

he would realize that the Chinese, the nation that is building many of those new coal power plants, are not likely to follow his symbolic lead to alternative and clean energy sources:
  • The Chinese national government has decided not to build any new wind turbines since existing electricity from existing wind turbines has apparently been wasted and has somehow caused damage to that nation’s electrical grid.
  • Earlier in April, the government in China, via a statement from its National Energy Administration, stopped approving all new wind energy power projects in the country’s windiest regions.
  • Although the turbines in these regions had the capacity for 71 gigawatts of electricity, much of it was wasted due to the wild fluctuations in how much and when the wind was available to produce electricity.
According to Myron Ebell, Director of the Center for Energy and Environment at the Competitive Enterprise Institute: "China is not the only country that has built so much wind capacity that their electric grid can't handle the wild fluctuations in output, and it won't be the last. The United States should learn from these incredibly expensive mistakes. Instead, Obama’s EPA plows ahead with regulations that will duplicate the worst outcomes—skyrocketing electric prices together with unpredictable interruptions in supply.”

One example where China, the leading offender when it comes to coal, today and into the future, will not be following Obama's example when it comes to wind power replacing fossil fuel power. Which means those coal miners throughout the U.S. made their sacrifices for nothing, at least in this case.

4) Let’s finish up today’s and this month’s review of the global warming fallacy with the following cartoon that reviews the actual, and eventually false, predictions on climate change over the past several decades:

Now you may see why people like myself are a little skeptical when people like Al Gore go hog wild on climate predictions that are proven wrong everyday, they have been wrong for decades.

So today we provided more evidence that the science is not settled, that Americans across the country are getting screwed from a financial perspective for actions that the Obama administration is taking that will have no positive societal benefit at all, and the climate predictions have always been wrong. More reasons next month on why it is perfectly sane to be a global warming doubter AND a believer in science.
