July, 2018, Part 1, I Am A Global Warming Doubter and A Believer In A Science: Forecasts That Went Horribly Wrong and The Massive Failure Of Paris

Every month we have enough material to return to a continuing theme in this blog, namely that “I am a global warming doubter AND a believer in science.” This became of interest because of people like Al Gore who fanatically and verbosely claimed that you had to be an idiot to not believe in manmade global warming. It has been my life belief that anyone that is that loud and that obnoxious is hiding something, that rather than argue facts and reality it is better to beat down and insult anyone who disagrees.

As we have dove into the whole issue of manmade global warming, or its new rebranded title of climate change, we found that Al Gore and people like him were guilty of a number of things:
  • Ignoring science and realities that did not support their opinions and positions.
  • Rather than have an adult conversation about climate, these types of advocates like Gore sank to the level of insulting those who dared look at ALL science by calling them a variety of names including racists, homophobes, terrorists, flat earth believers, and other slanderous names.
  • Continuing to insist that politicians step up their intrusions into our lives with higher taxes, more regulations, and more control on our freedoms and standards of living based on a shaky theory at best.
To see the past posts and the multitude of evidence that we have compiled that showed it is perfectly okay to be a global warming doubter and a believer in science, enter the phrase "global warming doubter” in the search box above or go through the monthly historical post listed on the right side of this page.

Thus, let’s see the latest facts and science that prove you can be a global warming doubter and a believer in science, regardless of what Al Gore proclaims.

1) As a trained professional statistician, it comes natural to me to go back in time to see how well a forecast predicted reality. Given how good, or badly, your forecasts performed allows you to improve your forecasting skills and accuracy. According to a June 23, 2018 article by Shawn on the Fix This Nation website, that is exactly what some folks have been doing for the major climate forecasts of the past thirty years:
  • The Wall Street Journal had climatologists Patrick Michaels and Ryan Maue compare climate forecasts from thirty years ago to today’s actual results.
  • James Hansen of NASA back in 1988 started a lot of this climate change/global warming nonsense when he declared he found a “high degree of confidence” in the relationship between human-produced CO2 and the “greenhouse effect and observed warming” of the atmosphere.”
  • Most of Hansen’s predictions said that the Earth’s temperatures would increase steadily over the next thirty years as humans threw more and more CO2 into the atmosphere.
  • However, only his Scenario C was close to being true and that forecast said that the Earth’s temps would NOT increase substantially in the coming decades.
  • Forecast models developed by the United Nations Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change on average forecasted twice as much warming than what actually happened as did other major “expert” forecasts.
  • Hansen also did forecasts that also lamely predicted that the number of hurricanes and tornadoes would increase as a result of CO2 that was going to be produced by mankind.
  • Of course, those forecasts were also epic failures with Michaels and Maue concluding that not only were Hansen’s forecasts wrong the reality was “the opposite may be true.”
  • Michaels and Maue also concluded that, “The list of what didn’t happen is long and tedious.”
The forecast failures were “long and tedious,” the predictions never came close to being accurate over the test of time. And yet, many liberals like Al Gore and Obama still insist that man made global warming and climate change is reality. When everything you claimed would happen did not happen when do you let go of the fantasy?

2) We have often discussed the reality that the infamous Paris Climate Agreement was a disaster and that, fortunately, Trump pulled the U.S. out of the agreement. The only people that were going to have to make sacrifices were Americans, that the big and growing polluters (e.g., China, India) and others had no fat in the climate fire. Obama sold the U.S. down the road to satisfy his own ego.

Trump took some serious heat from both inside and outside of the country for correctly pulling us out of the agreement but Nicolas Loris and Bryan Cosby, writing for the Western Journalism website on June 2, 2018, updated everyone on how well, really how badly, other countries were doing relative to their meager commitments within the agreement, one year after Trump’s withdrawal:
  • Despite the claim of climate alarmists that coal is bad for the environment and climate change, worldwide coal usage actually went UP 1% in 2017 despite the effort of the Climate Agreement signees to reduce coal usage.
  • A lot of this coal usage increase was because Asian countries’ increase in coal fired electricity.
  • World wide there are 1,600 coal fired electricity generating plants under construction, plants that will burn enough coal to produce 840,000 megawatts of electricity.
  • If the Paris agreement was any good I doubt that it would allow for the use of 1,600 NEW coal fired power plants.
  • And it is not just China and India increasing their usage of coal, smaller countries like Turkey and Indonesia have also struggled to meet their Paris goals since they need the cheap and quick use of coal to meet their growing economy needs.
  • Pakistan signed onto the Paris agreement but that agreement is quite useless: “Given the future economic growth and associated growth in the energy sector, the peaking of emissions in Pakistan is expected to take place much beyond the year 2030. An exponential increase of (greenhouse gas) emissions for many decades is likely to occur before any decrease in emissions can be expected.”
  • But it is not just Pakistan who is contributing nothing to the goals of the Paris Climate Agreement: “Germany, a world leader on climate action, has failed to cut emissions and has actually seen emissions rise during the past two years. Germany may even have to buy its way out of a binding European Union agreement to lower emissions in the coming years.”
  • Brazil expects its emission to continue rising until at least 2030, Japan will continue increasing its use of coal since nuclear in that country has a bad rep, and Poland and South Korea also plan on using more coal going forward.
But all of this proves how bad the whole agreement process was from the beginning: although many countries are falling short of the commitments they made just a few short years ago there are no ramifications or penalties. Even infamous NASA scientist James Hansen, see above discussion, called the whole process “a fraud” in 2015, claiming that, “There is no action, just promises.”

Commitments already being missed, the widespread and increasing use of coal across the world, and no penalties for failure. Trump got this one right.

Still a good thing to be a global warming doubter and a believer in science. More to follow.

Retro 5, Part 5, The Obama Presidency, The End Of An Error - The Unidstinguished List Of Obama Presidency's "Firsts"

We originally ran this post back in October at around the 100 day mark of the final days of the Obama Presidency. We ended up running about seven blog posts which did a deep dive into the activities, acomplishmentsand failures of this Presidency. We found very little in the way of accomplishments but dozens and dozens of cases of falures and disasters, from the economy to foreign affairs to the basic concept of integrity. We are going to rerun those post over the next week or so as we close in on an end of an error, the Obama Presidency.

Part 5, The Obama Presidency, The End Of An Error - THe Undistinguished List Of Obama Presidency's "Firsts"

As we near the end of the Obama Presidency, I thought it would be a good idea at the 100 day mark to review what he has done to and for this country over the past eight years. Before we do that, though, let me repeat my previous background statements on my past political actions:
  • I have never voted for a Republican Presidential candidate in my life and I have been voting since the the Nixon era.
  • Until 2010, I have never voted for a Republican for national office in my life.
  • I am not affiliated with nor do I associate myself with the Republican Party, conservatives or people like Donald Trump.
Okay, now that we understand where I am coming from, let me just say that in my opinion Barack Obama has been the most inept, most divisive, most narcissist and worst diplomat in my lifetime to reside in the White House. From the economy, to race relations, to the national debt, to foreign relations to government operations, to blatant disregard for existing laws and the Constitution, in just about any measure we are far worse off as a nation than prior to him coming into office.

We will breaking down the failures and disappointments of this administration into some broad categories that will take us a number of days to cover as we analyze “The Obama Presidency - The End Of An Error.” Three days ago we reviewed the dozens of lies and broken promises of this President and two days we talked about the dozens of times that the Obama administration violated laws, the Constitution, and judicial rulings.

Yesterday, we focused on how Obama and his administration has actively and aggressively divided Americans along sexual, racial, economic, and political lines. Specifically, rather than bringing people together, Obama stood silent and watched his political allies slander, degrade, insult, and divide the country to suit his needs, not the needs of the country and its citizens.

Today, we will focus on the many "firsts" of Obama and his administration, firsts that are often undistinguished, embarrassing, and a disaster:

Obama's Historical Firsts:

First President to apply for college aid as a foreign student, then deny he was a foreigner.

First President to have a social security number from a state he has never lived in.

First President to preside over a cut to the credit-rating quality of the United States.

First President to violate the War Powers Act.

First President to be held in contempt of court for illegally obstructing oil drilling in the Gulf of Mexico.

First President to force all Americans to purchase a product from a third party, via Obama Care.

First President to spend and waste over $800 billion on “shovel-ready” jobs when there was no such thing as “shovel-ready” jobs.

First President to bypass Congress and implement the immigration Dream Act through executive decree.

First President to order a secret amnesty program that stopped the deportation of illegal immigrants across the U.S., including those with criminal convictions.

First President to authorize and commit the assassination of an American citizen without due process of law.

First President to terminate America’s ability to put a man in space.

First President to have a law signed by an auto-pen without being present.

First President to unilaterally and illegally declare an existing law unconstitutional and refuse to enforce it.

First President to threaten insurance companies if they publicly spoke out on the reasons for their rate increases.

First President try to tell a major manufacturing company in which state it is allowed to locate a factory.

First President to withdraw an existing coal permit that had been properly issued years ago.

First President to actively try to bankrupt an American industry (coal).

First President to appoint 45 czars to replace elected officials in his office.

First President in sixty years or so to golf more than 300 separate times while in office.

First President to win a Nobel Peace Prize for doing NOTHING to earn it.

First President to keep a dog trainer on taxpayer funded retainer for $102,000 a year.

First President to incur a trillion dollar annual Federal budget deficit.

First President to incur trillion dollar annual budget deficits more than one time (four budget years).

First President to not meet the Presidency's annual budget deadline and schedule four out of five years.

First President to stand in front of the world, via the United Nations, and tell an outright lie, i.e. the Benghazi terror attack was caused by an obscure YouTube video.

Now, an Obama supporter may claim that the following firsts are positives in the face of the above disappointing firsts:

First President to win a Nobel Peace prize, which is a falsehood since he is the fourth, not the first.

First African-American American President - absolutely true.

Not a great list to leave behind as a legacy and as we approach the end of an error. Tomorrow we will discuss the many economic financial failures of this administration.

April, 2016, Part 3, I am a Global Doubter and A Believer In Science: The Science Is Still Not Settled, More Coal Jobs Lost, and More

  • Continuing to insist that politicians step up their intrusions into our lives with higher taxes, more regulations, and more control of our freedoms and standards of living based on a shaky theory at best.
To see the past posts and the multitude of evidence that we have compiled that showed it is perfectly okay to be a global warming doubter and a believer in science, enter the phrase "global warming doubter” in the search box above or go through the monthly historical posts listed on the right side of this page.

Thus, let’s see the latest facts and science that prove you can be a global warming doubter and a believer in science, regardless of what Al Gore proclaims:

1) Yesterday, we talked about how the “science is settled” assertion by global warming advocates is their rallying cry, their claim that you would have to be a fool to believe that manmade global warming does not exist and is not a threat to humanity because scientists believe it is. Yesterday, and many times before in this blog, we have quoted, cited, and discussed dozens, if not hundreds, of scientists that would dispute that assertion based on real science and the realities of today.

To that list of global warming doubters we can now add another scientist, Dr. Robert M.Carter, a geologist and professor emeritus at James Cook University in Australia and his recent quote: “We’re not dealing with a scientific issue. We haven’t been dealing with a scientific issue now for the past 15 or so years. We’re dealing with a determined political issue. It’s a campaign-cause.” In other words, global warming has become a political crusade, not a scientific crusade in the eyes of many scientists.

His quote comes from a recent article on the WND website which was discussing the soon to be released movie, “Climate Hustle.” That article can be read at:

2) We have previously discussed the reality that Obama’s Clean Power Plan, a renegade piece of regulation that will decimate the U.S. coal industry, have minimal effect on the environment, will dramatically raise electricity costs in this country, and will put the country at a severe economic disadvantage relative to the rest of the world. We have shown how this plan and other inane Obama energy initiatives have caused widespread unemployment throughout the traditional coal states of Kentucky, Wyoming, and West Virginia, again, for no significant environment impact.

But according to a recent Heritage Foundation report, it is not only the traditional coal states and their citizens that are being devastated by Obama energy policies:
  • Chuck DeVore, writing for Heritage on March 14, 2016, discussed the reality that Obama’s Clean Energy Plan will wipe out many Navajo Nation jobs.
  • According to Arizona State Senator Carlyle Begay, coal mining is critical to the economic vitality of the Navajo Nation: “The Navajo Nation’s unemployment rate is over 50 percent. Currently, revenue from coal represents 60 percent of the Navajo Nation’s general funds and operating budget. Absent political restrictions on the use of coal, coal mining and the Navajo Generating Station on the Navajo Nation’s land would be expected to boost its economy by over $13 billion over the next 25 years.”
  • The coal industry is responsible for over 2,500 of the best paying jobs within the Navajo Nation which has very high unemployment levels to begin with.
  • But those jobs have been disappearing under the Obama administration with coal production form the Nation down to about 8-10 million tons of coal a year from 13-16 million tons a year before Obama and his EPA intruded into the market and industry.
Just another example of needlessly disrupting Americans’ lives and jobs for a plan that even the head of the EPA says will have minimal, if any, good impacts on the environment or so-called global warming. Just another example of an Obama policy that is all bluster and no benefit, just like Obama Care, Dodd-Frank, etc.

3) One of the reasons that Obama and his EPA are pushing for the destruction of the American coal industry is that he thinks it will set a good example for the rest of the world. Never mind the economic devastation of American families’ financial futures, he wants to set a good example, hoping that other countries will follow his lead to clean energy. Never mind that the rest of the world is planning on building at least 2,400 new coal fired power plants in the next few years, wiping out any minimal benefit of closing a handful of America coal plants.

And if he had read an April 9, 2016 article by Nancy Hayes on the website:

he would realize that the Chinese, the nation that is building many of those new coal power plants, are not likely to follow his symbolic lead to alternative and clean energy sources:
  • The Chinese national government has decided not to build any new wind turbines since existing electricity from existing wind turbines has apparently been wasted and has somehow caused damage to that nation’s electrical grid.
  • Earlier in April, the government in China, via a statement from its National Energy Administration, stopped approving all new wind energy power projects in the country’s windiest regions.
  • Although the turbines in these regions had the capacity for 71 gigawatts of electricity, much of it was wasted due to the wild fluctuations in how much and when the wind was available to produce electricity.
According to Myron Ebell, Director of the Center for Energy and Environment at the Competitive Enterprise Institute: "China is not the only country that has built so much wind capacity that their electric grid can't handle the wild fluctuations in output, and it won't be the last. The United States should learn from these incredibly expensive mistakes. Instead, Obama’s EPA plows ahead with regulations that will duplicate the worst outcomes—skyrocketing electric prices together with unpredictable interruptions in supply.”

One example where China, the leading offender when it comes to coal, today and into the future, will not be following Obama's example when it comes to wind power replacing fossil fuel power. Which means those coal miners throughout the U.S. made their sacrifices for nothing, at least in this case.

4) Let’s finish up today’s and this month’s review of the global warming fallacy with the following cartoon that reviews the actual, and eventually false, predictions on climate change over the past several decades:

Now you may see why people like myself are a little skeptical when people like Al Gore go hog wild on climate predictions that are proven wrong everyday, they have been wrong for decades.

So today we provided more evidence that the science is not settled, that Americans across the country are getting screwed from a financial perspective for actions that the Obama administration is taking that will have no positive societal benefit at all, and the climate predictions have always been wrong. More reasons next month on why it is perfectly sane to be a global warming doubter AND a believer in science.

February, 2015, Part 1, Will The Center Hold: Suing The EPA, Texas Steps Up, and Arizona Really Steps Up

We occasionally do a review of the theme, “will the center hold.” Given the ever growing reach and encroachment of the Federal government and Obama administration into state matters and citizens’ lives, we have often reported on the increasing pushback against that overreach. From everything from Obama Care to Common Core to gun control to NSA spying, Americans are reasserting their right to tell the Federal government and Washington politicians that citizens in this country hold the power, not them.

Which has led us more than once to contemplate what would happen if Washington enacted a law or the President executed an executive order and the rest of the country simply ignored it? Would the center hold or would we be looking at serious fissures within the country?

For a few days lets review where the rest of the country is telling Obama and the Washington political class to stop their power grab and overreaching into our lives:

1) The Daily Caller reported back in October that 26 states are suing the Federal government because of the EPA’s attempt to overstep its authority and institute it’s so-call “Clean Power Plan,” a plan that will substantially increase the cost of electricity in this country for consumers and businesses.

The plan forces states to move away from coal as an energy source for creating electricity under the somewhat shaky premise that manmade climate change is going to be the death of all of us. For those readers who still think that man made global warming and climate change are a reality, I suggest you enter the term, “I am a global warming doubter” in the search box above to see hundreds of science-based sources and experts who would dispute the theory that man made activities are dramatically screwing up the planet.

The states are arguing that the plan is a Federal government takeover of state energy policy because it forces a shift away from coal regardless of what a state, its government and its citizens want to do. The argument also includes the position that the EPA’s authority to do this is not allowed under the Clean Air Act and the legislation that created the EPA.

If allowed to take place, many states will see electricity rates skyrocket and a multitude of coal mining jobs and coal mines be shut down, devastating many communities and whole states in the coal belt. This will stunt economic growth and put the U.S. at a competitive disadvantage in the world economy since other economic giants such as China, India, and others have no intention of curtailing their use of coal or any other energy source that fuels their economic growth.

In fact, we have previously repoted that these other countries are planning to build and open up at least 2,400 new coal burning plants in the near future. Just these new plants will overwhelm the handful of coal plants in this country that Obama wants to shut down from an environmental benefit perspective.

The good news is that the Supreme Court recently ruled in favor of the states' pushback. The Court said that the plan cannot be implemented until all law suits against it can be heard and litigated. A victory for freedom.

All for a climate theory that gets less and less credible everyday. Which raises an interesting question: what if the Obama administration decides to enforce this plan and 26 states ignore the directive? Will the center hold?

2) Probably no state has stood up in opposition to the Federal government and the Obama administration more than the state of Texas. Starting with former governor Rick Perry and his strong stand against the weak implementation of border patrol and security and gun control to the current governor, Texas has led the charge to push back the ever growing reach of the Federal government.

Current Texas governor, Greg Abbott, is now opposing Obama administration policies when it comes to so-called sanctuary cities. Sanctuary city local governments have decided that they can ignore Federal laws and regulations when it comes to apprehending and deporting illegal immigrants, giving them protection and sheltering them from the Federal government. The Obama administration has allowed this law breaking to go on under it's watch, probably actually encouraging it behind the scenes.

Well, apparently Abbott is not going to have any of it, recently claiming that sanctuary cities will "no longer be tolerated in Texas.” Abbott sent a letter to a Texas sheriff after the sheriff publicly said that he would decide on a case-by-case basis whether or not to abide by the law and turn over illegal immigrants to the Feds. Abbott sent a letter strongly objecting to this abuse of current law: “'Sanctuary City’ policies like those promoted by your recent decision to implement your own case-by-case immigrant detention plan will no longer be tolerated in Texas,. Your decision to not fully honor U.S. Immigration & Customs Enforcement’s (ICE) requests to detain criminal immigrants poses a serious danger to Texans. These detainers provide ICE with the critical notice and time it needs to take incarcerated immigrants into federal custody.”

“Your refusal to fully participate in a federal law enforcement program intended to keep dangerous criminals off the streets leaves the State no choice but to take whatever actions are necessary to protect our fellow Texans. Now more than ever, it is essential that state, federal, and local law enforcement work collaboratively to protect our fellow Texans and to ensure that our laws are upheld, not disregarded.”

The governor laid out actions he and the state of Texas could take in response to the renegade actions of this sheriff:

  • Passing laws that prohibit any policy or action that promotes sanctuary to people in this state illegally.
  • Enacting laws that make it illegal for a Sheriff’s Department to not honor a federal immigration detainer request.
  • Evaluating the extent to which local taxpayers should foot the bill for local decisions that increase costs for Texas’ health and education systems.
  • Amending the Tort Claims Act to ensure counties are fully financially responsible for the actions of any illegal immigrants who are released because the county’s Sheriff failed to honor an ICE detainer request.
Given that the Obama administration has not enforced the immigration laws that are being broken across the country, it makes you wonder what it would do if Abbott actually went after the Texas sanctuary cities like he threatened to do with this sheriff’s county. And if the administration tried to stop Abbott from shutting down sanctuary cities and Abbott refused to do so, would the center hold?

It would be interesting to see what a court would decide when a state official is trying to get a Federal law enforced and the Federal government tries to have a state official not enforce the Federal law. Interesting times when roles are reversed like this. We have obviously fallen down the rabbit hole when this is our reality in this country.

3) While Texas has been the biggest opposition to an increasingly large, inept, and dangerous Federal government, the state of Arizona is not far behind. The state government house of representatives passed a piece of legislation that will be taken up by the state senate in January, 20126, that if passed and signed by the governor would put Arizona in the forefront of ignoring potential edicts and orders from Washington.

Specifically, the proposed law calls for:

“1. Prohibits this state or any of its political subdivisions from using any personnel or financial resources to enforce, administer or cooperate with an executive order issued by the President of the U.S. that has not been affirmed by a vote of Congress and signed into law as prescribed by the U.S. Constitution.

2. Prohibits this state or any of its political subdivisions from using any personnel or financial resources to enforce, administer or cooperate with a policy directive issued by the U.S. DOJ to law enforcement agencies in this state that has not been affirmed by a vote of Congress and signed into law as prescribed by the U.S. Constitution.”

In other words, if a Washington action does not conform to the spirit and letter of the Constitution, than Arizona is going to do its very best not to support or conform to that action. Wow, that’s a big you know what to Washington and the executive order-mad Obama administration. Govern the right way, according to the Constitution, or get out of our state. Makes you wonder what the Feds will do if Arizona eventually passes this legislation and actually ignores and Obama or other Washington edict or order. Will the center hold?

Again, interesting times we live in. A state insisting the Constitution be followed or it will ignore Washington’s intentions, a state trying to get the Federal government to enforce Federal laws on immigration that the Federal government refuses to enforce, and 26 states basically telling the Feds to pound sand on what they consider an illegal power grab by the EPA.

Never have so many pushed back so hard on Washington which raises the scenario: what happens when Washington issues an edict and the rest of the country ignores it and yawns in its face?

January, 2016, Part 3, I Am A Global Warming Doubter and A Believer In Science: The States Rebel, The Feds Manipulate Data, Bill Nye Is Not A Climate Scientist and More

Thus, let’s see the latest facts and science that prove you can be a global warming doubter and a believer in science, regardless of what Al Gore proclaims:1) Patrick Michaels and Chip Knappenberger are climate scientists at the libertarian Cato Institute. In late 2015, they released a paper covering their climate research that examined the difference between actual, observed, measured global surface temperatures since 1950 and compared the actual realities to what over a hundred well known climate forecasting models predicted those temperatures would be in the future. The common and basic assumption in all of these forecast models was that as mankind threw more and more carbon into the atmosphere, the earth’s temperatures would rise. Their results should not be surprising to those of us who are global warming doubters and believers in science: for the past six decades, those models have constantly and grossly overestimated what the temperature would be in the future and thus, overstating how much global warming was going on. In their own words: “Everyone by now is familiar with the ‘pause’ or ‘slowdown’ in the rate of global warming that has taken place over the past 20 years or so, but few realize is that the observed warming rate has been beneath the model mean expectation for periods extending back to the mid-20th century—60+ years… During all periods from 10 years (2006-2015) to 65 (1951-2015) years in length, the observed temperature trend lies in the lower half of the collection of climate model simulations and for several periods it lies very close (or even below) the 2.5th percentile of all the model runs.”Michaels and Knappenberger went beyond their surface temperature analysis and decided to look at satellite and weather balloon data to see if the results above the surface were any different. Not surprisingly, the result is the same: the climate models predicted way more warming than actually occurred in the atmosphere as they did for surface temperatures. Michaels and Knappenberger summed up their findings: “This is a devastating indictment of climate model performance. ...For periods of time longer than about 20 years, the observed trends from all data sources fall beneath the lower bound which contains 95 percent of all model trends and in the majority of cases, falls beneath even the absolute smallest trend found in any of the 102 climate model runs. The amount of that over-prediction comports well with a growing body of scientific findings and growing understanding that the sensitivity of the earth’s surface temperature to rising atmospheric greenhouse gas levels… lies towards (and yet within) the low end of the mainstream assessed likely range.”“A devastating indictment.” Could not agree more and still people like Al Gore go off on what is clearly becoming an obsolete scientific farce.2) Let’s move from two true climate scientists, Michaels and Knappenberger, to a famous non-scientist. Bill Ney is the "Science Guy” and for a long time filled a valid societal function by getting kids interested in science. But then he decided to market himself as a climate expert and a big supporter of the whole man made climate change/global warming theory. But let’s clear up something right now. While people like Michaels and Knappenberger are real climate scientists, while Judith Curry of Georgia Tech is a real climate scientists and many others we have discussed in this blog are real climate scientists, Bill Nye by training and profession is NOT a climate scientist. In fact, Bill Nye is not a scientist, he is an engineer by training and his early work history.According to a recent Breitbart article, Mr. Nye has an undergraduate degree in mechanical engineering. Using that degree, he worked in the aerospace industry, none of which has anything to do with climate science. But he has appointed himself as a player propagating the global warming theory. In fact, he recently bragged that he was flying around the country with Obama on Air Force One, as the following tweet shows:
Verified account‏@BillNye

Heading down to DC to catch an #EarthDay flight on Air Force One tomorrow with the President. We're going to #ActOnClimate.
Seems pretty hypocritical that someone who views himself as an earth savior from global warming brags about getting on a huge, carbon spewing jet to go for a public relations ride. So we now have a global warming effort led by a lawyer and former politician, Al Gore, and a mechanical engineer, Bill Nye, neither of whom have any training, education, or experience in climate science.3) We have often made the case that this President has an enormous ego and thinks that he has never made a mistake. However, in regards to Obama’s EPA plans to regulate and suppress coal usage in this country, over half of the country in a way thinks that he has actually made a mistake in this area. Twenty seven states, led by West Virginia, deep coal country, and Texas have banded together to fight the climate rules that the President is pushing. The attorney generals of 27 states recently went in front of Federal judges to try to stop Obama’s Clean Power Plan, arguing that the President and his EPA have overreached in their desire to suppress the usage of coal for power generation in this country. There is also the reality that these rules and regulations will be suppressing jobs and economic growth for an effort that will have little impact on the environment: the rest of the world is on track to build 2,400 coal burning plants in the near future while Obama is worried about a handful of U.S plants that will kill a whole lot of coal miner jobs.4) A November 30, 2015 article by Barbara Hollingsworth, writing for the CNSNews website, discussed the accusations of German scientist, Dr. Friedrich-Karl Ewer of the University of Paderborn. The professor accused NASA’s Goddard Institute of Space Studies (GISS) of deliberately altering temperature records between 2010 and 2012 to produce the false reality that the Earth had been warming since 1950.Specifically:
  • He researched historical temperatures of 1,153 weather stations from around the world going back to 1881.
  • He found we he called “massive” manipulation by GISS between 2010 and 2012.
  • Ewert noticed that temperature data from weather stations in Iceland and Greenland had been changed after the fact.
  • Based on this manipulation, he then randomly looked at 120 weather stations around the world and manually compared the original archived data to GISS’ 2012 temperature records.
  • He found that the changing of published data to the original archived data was widespread.
  • He also found that since 1881, the original data points show four distinct cooling stages alternating with three warming phases over time, with the earth currently in a cooling phase.
  • He also concluded that there was a stronger warming period, based on government data, in earth’s history back in the early 1900s, long before carbon emissions had grown so much, as his following chart shows (click on the chart for a larger view):

(Source: Dr. Friedrich-Karl Ewert)

  • He also claimed that he found multiple statistical methods used by GISS to modify the data trend from cooling to warming: “Between the years 2010 and 2012 the data measured since 1881 were altered so that they showed a significant warming, especially after 1950…. A comparison of the data from 2010 with the data of 2012 shows that NASA-GISS had altered its own data sets so that especially after WWII, a clear warming appears – although it never existed.”
For all I know this professor could be no better informed or credible than Bill Nye. But it appears that he did a lot of detailed work and analysis that at least deserves a formal review and critique. That is what real scientists do, review and critique other scientists’ works to ensure they represent reality. That will do it for today’s proof that it is perfectly rational to be a global warming doubter and a believer in science. More tomorrow.
