July, 2020, Part 3, I Am A Global Warming Doubter and A Believer In Science: Will The New Dalton Minimum Cause Global Cooling?

Just about every month we have enough material to return to a continuing theme in this blog, namely that “I am a global warming doubter AND a believer in science.” This became of interest because of people like Al Gore who fanatically and verbosely claimed that you had to be an idiot to not believe in manmade global warming. It has been my life belief that anyone that is that loud and that obnoxious is hiding something, that rather than argue facts and reality it is better to beat down and insult anyone who disagrees.

As we have dove into the whole issue of manmade global warming, or its new rebranded title of climate change, we found that Al Gore and people like him were guilty of a number of things:
  • Ignoring science and realities that did not support their opinions and positions.
  • Rather than have an adult conversation about climate, these types of advocates like Gore sank to the level of insulting those who dared look at ALL science by calling them a variety of names including racists, homophobes, terrorists, flat earth believers, and other slanderous names.
  • Continuing to insist that politicians step up their intrusions into our lives with higher taxes, more regulations, and more control on our freedoms and standards of living based on a shaky theory at best.
To see the past posts and the multitude of evidence that we have compiled that showed it is perfectly okay to be a global warming doubter and a believer in science, enter the phrase "global warming doubter” in the search box above or go through the monthly historical post listed on the right side of this page.

Thus, let’s see the latest facts and science that prove you can be a global warming doubter and a believer in science, regardless of what Al Gore proclaims.

Two posts ago we discussed the Dalton Minimum, a solar condition that results in very low solar activity. The last time that the Dalton Minimum occurred, several hundred years ago, the Earth experienced a forty year span of extremely cold weather. Various research efforts on global warming have also pointed to the sun as a prime driver, of warming and cooling, of the Earth’s climate.

That previous post discussed the NASA research and tracking that points to another Dalton Minimum situation that is about to occur on the sun. The question that needs to be determined is whether the Dalton Minimum that is approaching will cause another period of extreme cooling of the climate.

This is critical since the last time this happened life on Earth was not pleasant:
  • The period from 1790 to 1830 of the last Dalton minimum resulted in extreme cold, severe crop failures, famine, and war.
  • Germany experienced a 2 Celsius degree decrease in air temperatures that destroyed the German food production.
  • The year 1816 experienced what is called “the Year Without A Summer” since temperatures were so low that England experienced snow in the middle of the summer.
  • There were big volcanoes and earthquakes during this Dalton Minimum period.
  • A Virginian of the time wrote: “In June another snowfall came and folks went sleighing. On July 4, water froze in cisterns and snow fell again, with Independence Day celebrants moving inside churches where hearth fires warmed things a mite.”
  • In Pennsylvania, there are documents that claim there was ice on ponds and lakes in the state in July and August.
  • In New England, wet washed clothes froze while outside on the line to dry.
  • Throughout the country, crops were frozen to death in June and when replanted, froze again in July.
  • All of this saw crop prices going sky high, e.g. oats that sold for $.12 a bushel in one year sold for $.92 a bushel a year later because of the cold temps and resultant crop failures.
  • The potato crop in Ireland froze in the ground leading to a famine.
  • England, France, and German had wheat crop failures which led to bread shortages which led to food riots.
  • Northern China experienced mass starvation while torrential rains in southern Asia created a cholera epidemic.
  • The year 1816 was nicknamed “Eighteen Hundred and Froze to Death.”
  • Other non-NASA research by a team led by Valentina Zharkova predicts that all four of the sun's magnetic fields will go out of phase in 2020 which will lead to decreased solar activity and another global cooling period.
Thus, it should be interesting. Every global warming forecast has been wrong. Al Gore had always been wrong. The UN climate people have always been wrong. Do we think that the next wave of climate forecasts, the ones based on other researchers and research, will do any better? We shall see if the Dalton Minimum is about to hit us again, the exact opposite of what global warming advocates predicted for decades.

Janiary, 2019, Part 1, I Am A Global Warming Doubter and A Believer In Science: Cooler Temps and Less Violent Weather

Every month we have enough material to return to a continuing theme in this blog, namely that “I am a global warming doubter AND a believer in science.” This became of interest because of people like Al Gore who fanatically and verbosely claimed that you had to be an idiot to not believe in manmade global warming. To see the past posts and the multitude of evidence that we have compiled that showed it is perfectly okay to be a global warming doubter and a believer in science, enter the phrase "global warming doubter” in the search box above or go through the monthly historical post listed on the right side of this page.

Thus, let’s see the latest facts and science that prove you can be a global warming doubter and a believer in science, regardless of what Al Gore proclaim.

1) Back in the 1970s, climatologists were predicting the onset of a new Ice Age. Just a few short years later that same profession started the global warming myth with its set of associated predictions. Over time, we now know that every one of those global warming predictions never came close to coming true and the havoc that global warming was supposed to cause never materialized.

As the saying goes, what goes around comes around and that also appears to be true with climate:
  • Warner Todd Huston, writing for the Godfather Politics website, reported on the climate over the past two years.
  • According to a report by Real Clear Markets, “From February 2016 to February 2018 (the latest month available) global average temperatures dropped 0.56°C.”
  • This is the biggest two year drop since the 1982 - 1984 period.
  • The data from the report comes from GISTEMP and their analysis, “2018: GISS Surface Temperature Analysis, NASA Goddard Institute For Space Studies.”
  • The website for their report can be found at: https://data.giss.nasa.gov/gistemp/).
  • According to the article, “This is the standard source used in most journalistic reporting of global average temperatures.”
  • Within the two year period, there was the largest five month drop in temps EVER, February to June, 2016.
  • And the fourth biggest five month period drop in temps EVER occurred between February and June, 2017.
  • The five month period from February to June, 2018 found that average global temps were below the 1980s average temperature.
  • And finally, February, 2018 was colder than February, 1998.
  • And given that temperature variability has decreased over time, these colder temps in the past few years is not likely due to sampling error alone.
Wow, could we be all the way back to global cooling being the next big thing? Too early to tell but the article correctly points out how global warming advocates behave when global cooling evidence becomes a reality: “My point is that statistical cooling outliers garner no media attention. The global average temperature numbers come out monthly. If they show a new hottest year on record, that’s a big story. If they show a big increase over the previous month, or the same month in the previous year, that’s a story. If they represent a sequence of warming months or years, that’s a story. When they show cooling of any sort—and there have been more cooling months than warming months since anthropogenic warming began—there’s no story.”

Which is why I am a global warming doubter and a believer in science: many climate scientists and the politicians and media types that support them will say nothing about this global cooling period since it does not fit the myth and objectives that they want.

2) For decades now we have been told by global warming advocates that we will see more and more severe weather via more and more intense hurricanes, tornadoes, droughts, and wildfires. Hurricane Katrina was the great rallying call for global warming advocates in that they predicted that Katrina was in the vanguard of more severe storms to come.

So what happened? Immediately after Katrina we went into a dozen years with fewer and milder hurricanes. As a resident of Florida since 2005, I did not experience a single hurricane until Irma, twelve years after moving into the state. Hardly the horrific forecast the advocates said would happen.

But it is not just bigger and more frequent hurricanes that were erroneously predicted by the global warming advocates. According to Todd Warner Huston, again writing for the Godfather Politics website:
  • The year 2018 was the first year since measurements began in 1950 that no violent tornadoes hit the U.S.
  • Let me say that again, there were NO violent tornadoes in the country in 2018.
  • Technically, it was the first year where there were no recorded EF4 or EF5, the worst kind, of tornadoes.
  • This runs contrary to global warming theory which always predicted more and more violent tornadoes.
  • Even the Washington Post, long the advocate and supporter of liberal based causes such as global warming admitted the truth: ”It was a quiet year for tornadoes overall, with below normal numbers most months. Unless you’re a storm chaser, this is not bad news. The low tornado count is undoubtedly a big part of the reason the 10 tornado deaths in 2018 are also vying to be a record low.”
  • The long term trend is also very positive in that the average number of violent hurricanes in a year is less than half the average it was back in the 1970s.
  • Even when the more moderate EF3 tornadoes are included in the measurement, 2018 was still a record low.
Cooler temperatures and less violent storms is the reality when hotter temperatures and more violent storms were the forecast. Missed by that much… which is a real lot.

That will do it for today but we are just getting started proving again this month that it is perfectly sane to be a global warming doubter and a believer in science...and reality.

July, 2016, Part 1, I Am A Global Warming Doubter and A Believer In Science: El Nino, A New Theory, and a List Of Global Warming Myths

Every month we have enough material to return to a continuing theme in this blog, namely that “I am a global warming doubter AND a believer in science.” This became of interest because of people like Al Gore who fanatically and verbosely claimed that you had to be an idiot to not believe in manmade global warming.

Ignoring science and realities that did not support their opinions and positions.
  • Rather than have an adult conversation about climate, these types of advocates like Gore sank to the level of insulting those who dared look at ALL science by calling them a variety of names including racists, homophobes, terrorists, flat earth believers, and other slanderous names.
  • Continuing to insist that politicians step up their intrusions into our lives with higher taxes, more regulations, and more control of our freedoms and standards of living based on a shaky theory at best.
To see the past posts and the multitude of evidence that we have compiled that showed it is perfectly okay to be a global warming doubter and a believer in science, enter the phrase "global warming doubter” in the search box above or go through the monthly historical posts listed on the right side of this page.

Thus, let’s see the latest facts and science that prove you can be a global warming doubter and a believer in science, regardless of what Al Gore proclaims:

1) Patrick J, Michaels, writing for the Cato Institute on July 1, 2016, reviewed the latest scientific data as it regards actual air temperatures as actually measured by satellites. His insights are important because a lot of global warming advocates were pointing to the recent hot weather as evidence that global warming was real. Global warming doubters were pointing to historical temperature trends which showed that higher temperatures should be expected since an El Nino weather pattern had formed in the Pacific and that historically, that raises temperatures in the U.S.

The satellites’ recordings include the following highlights:
  • Mr. Michaels sets up the science with the following El Nino summary: “For months we have been saying that, once they started dropping, the satellite temperatures—our only truly global measure—were going to go down with a vengeance, which is what usually happens after a strong El Niño event spikes a fever. El Niño is a dramatic slowdown (or even a reversal) in the trade winds that diverge surface water away from the South American coast, “upwelling” much colder subsurface waters. When that stops, global temperatures rocket upwards, but that also builds up more and more cold water to be unleashed when the trade winds resume.”
  • The satellite based temperature readings in the lower atmosphere are already showing a dramatic drop in the past four months as the El Nino starts to break up.
  • In fact, according to Roy Spencer of University of Alabama-Huntsville, who publishes the satellite data, the drop in temperatures the past in the last two months was the second-largest drop ever.
  • It missing being the biggest drop the record by only 0.01⁰C.
  • The existing record was set, wait for it, after the slightly bigger 1997-8 El Niño.
  • In the tropics, where El Niño is the strongest, the drop was the largest in the entire 37-year record of keeping track of temps by satellite.
  • Despite the current strong El Nino, the overall change in temps has been basically flat, subject to random error variation, over the past 20 years.
It is so much easier to be a global warming doubter when we have actual, government data to prove our point and so much harder to be a global warming advocate when data destroys pre-conceived notions of what they believe. We will keep an eye on this data over the next six months or so when we expect the fading of El Nino will further reduce overall air temperatures as measured by the satellites.

2) The website, www.ihavethetruth.com, probably does not have the reporting heft or reputation of say the New York Times and the Washington Post. So, it would be easy for global warming advocates to look at this tiny website and pooh pooh anything it says that would contradict what Al Gore told the advocates for global warming. In fact, they would probably ignore the following assertions by this website that was recently published on their site:
  • The global “truth” that people like Al Gore and Barack Obama like to spout is that 97% of climate scientists say the science is settled and that humanity is the prime suspect in driving up Earth’s temperatures. However, the article points out, correctly, given that we have already reported on this in previous posts, that this number was passed on a too small of a sample size of only 77 people, that was selectively and biasedly drawn from a much larger sample size who responded to a survey. You cannot base government policy and laws on such a small, skewed sample.
  • There are 35 “lies” in Al Gore’s global warming movie, “An Inconvenient Truth.”
  • Only 32% of the country is really worried about global warming which is about the same percentage of people that were worried about global cooling back in the 1980s.
  • If global warming is so bad and that it will eventually wipe out shore communities, why did Al Gore buy a California beach mansion a number of years ago?
  • Al Gore predicted back in 2008 that the entire North Pole could be melted by 2013 but it is still there and has been growing in ice size over the past few years.
The article goes through many more “facts” about global warming. What gives this obscure website credibility is that it sources every assertion it makes which allows the reader to easily go to the link that is the basis for the assertion, links that take you to far more famous websites and research sources. To check out the above, alleged global warming fallacies and others to judge for yourself, click on the following link:

I think you will be surprised how much information that Al Gore types are not telling you but are suppressing to keep their myths alive.

3) It is no secret that just about every global warming forecast over the past two decades has been a prediction disaster. These models have not come close to even remotely predicting what the Earth’s temperatures would be in the future.

They are so bad that anyone who thinks that today’s global warming forecast models will do any better has just not been paying attention to the disaster that is climate forecasting. All of which raises a very valid question: if you have had grossly incorrect forecasts since day one, why should we believe your forecasts today will do any better job of predicting the future?

But there is a new scientific study and theory out that explains global warming and global cooling in one grand theory. To me, a non-climate scientist, the new theory seems logical and and helps explain why the Earth’s temperatures have been going up (global warming) and then followed by those temperatures going down (global cooling) over the history of the entire Earth. Rather than me trying to explain the theory, let me quote a description of it from a recent article that was on the Daily Caller website: “Now comes a new study which challenges the role that CO2 plays in our planet’s average temperature. The paper, “Modulation of ice ages via precession and dust-albedo feedbacks” by Ralph Ellis, asserts that carbon dioxide’s main mode of operation on planetary climate has to do with its interaction with terrestrial plant life: as CO2 levels decline after an extended ice-age, plants die off in areas such as the high steppes of Mongolia, causing a big upsurge in dust storms which coat the Northern Hemisphere’s ice fields, lowering their reflectiveness (albedo) resulting in the Earth coming out of an ice-age. After about 5,000 years, the planet, now with high CO2 concentrations, goes back into an ice-age as the Earth’s 23,000-year precession cycle swings the Northern Hemisphere away from the Sun.

Ellis’ paper provides an explanation for what the UN’s Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) called, “one of the major unsolved questions in climate research” — that is, what caused the large CO2 variations in the past and how they were linked to climate. Of course, one would think that such a large unanswered question might be resolved before creating dozens of climate models that all assume a dominant role for CO2 as a direct agent in making the planet warmer or cooler depending on how much of it is present in the atmosphere.”

Here you have a comprehensive, logical, and testable theory about CO2 and how it affects both global warming AND global cooling. It is so much more viable and robust than just taking a few decades of temperature data and trying to extrapolate it out for several more decades. As a trained, degreed statistician, it is my view that the proposal by Mr. Ellis has likely far more statistical validity than the failed, simplistic historic global warming forecast models. And if he is right, than Al Gore et al are wrong and it becomes more realistic to be a global warming doubter and a believer in science, the type of scientific thinking espoused by Mr. Ellis.

More discussion tomorrow on why it is perfectly rational and sane to be a global warming doubter and a believer in science.

May,2016, Part 3, I Am A Global Warming Dubter and A Believer In Science: Past Forecasts Go Down In Flames, Ice Build Up At The South Pole and More

Every month we have enough material to return to a continuing theme in this blog, namely that “I am a global warming doubter AND a believer in science.”This became of interest because of people like Al Gore who fanatically and verbosely claimed that you had to be an idiot to not believe in manmade global warming.

1) Yesterday, we discussed the reality that despite Al Gore predicting that the North Pole could be ice free by 2013, his forecast could not be any further from the truth. Others of his ilk have also forecasted a similar disaster for the South Pole. However, according to NASA researchers back in 2014, on September 19, 2014, the five day average of Antarctic sea ice area exceeded 20 million square kilometers for the first time since 1979. This data finding came from NASA’s National Snow and Ice Data Center.

Now, some NASA scientists involved with the work said that this is now perfectly normal from a global warming theory perspective. That global warming is changing weather patterns which is causing the South Pole to get colder and expand its ice pack. Yes, global warming is causing more iced to form in the South Pole. Think about that for a minute, warming = more ice.

For all I know or do not know, they could be right: global warming is causing more ice at the South Pole. What I do have a problem with, though, from a scientific perspective, is that none of the historical forecasts of global warming predicted this situation, warming = more ice. Thus, it brings into doubt their theory since they obviously missed this phenomenon when they put their climate models together, which implies that they really do not understand what is going on. They provide many theories of why the South Pole is getting colder but that is all they have is theories.

Again, they may be right. But they have no idea why this is happening which implies that they do not understand the whole climate picture which means, contrary to what Al Gore says, the “science is NOT settled.”

2) Continuing with the South Pole ice pack expanding story, maybe what we are seeing is just the long term cyclical changes to the climate, that we are in a period of time when the planet is a little warmer while at the same time the South Pole is getting bigger with humanity’s use of carbon fuel having no or little impact on the long term cycle.

Consider a simple historical chart that was recently published on the Federalist Papers website:

Thus, if you believe the work done by these scientists, Cliff Harris and Randy Mann, the world and its climate has been much warmer in the past, long before mankind was using a lot of carbon based fuel sources. Their data shows that climate is a long term cycle with warming periods interspersed with cooling periods regardless of what species is dominant on Earth.
In fact, based on their data and analysis, whenever solar radiation has decreased and volcanic activity has increased, global temperatures suddenly drop, often within weeks or months. Over time, this has caused 75 major climate swings throughout the Earth’s history.
Their findings are consistent with the work of CERN scientists several years ago where in laboratory conditions they showed that solar activity has a much bigger effect on climate than anything mankind does. That research was summarized at:http://loathemygovernment.blogspot.com/2012/02/i-am-global-warming-doubter-and.htmlLook at ALL of the data, not just the data that proves a pre-determined conclusion, that is all global warming doubters are looking for.3) Let’s finish up today with a brief look back at the major climate forecast screw ups over time. We have previously discussed many of these so we know the sources are good but I recently came across this brief history of climate mania proven wrong:
  1. -Biologist Paul Ehrlich predicted in the 1970s that: “Population will inevitably and completely outstrip whatever small increases in food supplies we make,” and that “The death rate will increase until at least 100-200 million people per year will be starving to death during the next ten years.” Comments: While far too many people die from starvation every year, that is mostly caused by wars and bad politicians, not the climate devastation that Ehrlich predicted.
  2. -In January 1970, Life magazine reported, “Scientists have solid experimental and theoretical evidence to support…the following predictions: In a decade, urban dwellers will have to wear gas masks to survive air pollution…by 1985 air pollution will have reduced the amount of sunlight reaching earth by one half….” Comment: While true in many Chinese cities because of fast economic growth, that is certainly not the case in just about every other city around the world and certainly not the case in this country.
  3. -In January 2006 Al Gore predicted that we had ten years left before the planet turned into a "total frying pan." Comment: Wrong again, Al.
  4. -In 2008, a segment aired on ABC News predicted that NYC would be under water by June 2015. Comment: Not even close.
  5. -In 1970, ecologist Kenneth E.F. Watt predicted that “If present trends continue, the world will be about four degrees colder for the global mean temperature in 1990, but 11 degrees colder by the year 2000, This is about twice what it would take to put us in an ice age.” Comment: Even the global cooling scientists got it wrong.
  6. - In 2008, Al Gore predicted that there is a 75% chance that the entire north polar ice cap would be completely melted within 5-7 years. He at least hedged that prediction by giving himself “75%” certainty. Comment: Wrong again, Al.
  7. -On May 13th 2014 France’s foreign minister said that we only have 500 days to stop “climate chaos.” The recent Paris climate summit met 565 days after his remark. Comment: No chaos.
  8. -In 2009, National Aeronautics and Space Administration Goddard Space Flight Center head James Wassen warned that Obama only had four years left to save the earth. Comment: Obama could not even save his Presidency from incompetence never mind saving the world.
  9. -On the first Earth Day, its sponsor warned that “in 25 years, somewhere between 75 and 80 percent of all the species of living animals will be extinct.” Comment: Not quite.
  10. -And another Earth Day prediction from Kenneth Watt: “At the present rate of nitrogen buildup, it’s only a matter of time before light will be filtered out of the atmosphere and none of our land will be usable.” Comment: So at one point in this scientific mess nitrogen was the problem, not carbon. My, how times have changed.
That will do it for today, more proof that being a global warming doubter and a believer in science is a sane thing to be. Us doubters are all for analyzing a potential problem and taking the right steps to fix the situation if it is a problem. Al Gore types have already pre-determined what the problem is and how to fix it, which always involves us giving up our freedom and wealth and giving it to powerful interests that people like Al Gore represent. In some situations this is caused a shake down, in the global warming world it is called saving the planet from what could very well be a myth.

More global warming insanity tomorrow.

January 2016, Part 8, I Am A Global Warming Doubter and A Beliver In Science: Monthly Wrap Up

Every month we have enough material to return to a continuing theme in this blog, namely that “I am a global warming doubter AND a believer in science.” This became of interest because of people like Al Gore who fanatically and verbosely claimed that you had to be an idiot to not believe in man made global warming. It has bee

In my life belief that anyone that is that loud and that obnoxious is hiding something, that rather than argue facts and reality it is better to beat down and insult anyone who disagrees.

As we have dove into the whole issue of man made global warming, or its new rebranded title of climate change, we found that Al Gore and people like him were guilty of a number of things:

Thus, let’s see the latest facts and science that prove you can be a global warming doubter and a believer in science, regardless of what Al Gore proclaims, in our last post for this month under the theme that “I am a global warming doubter and a believer in science”:

1) Apparently, back in 1974 the Central Intelligence Agency issued a report that predicted that the Earth’s “climate is returning to that of the neo-boreal era… an era of drought, famine, and political unrest in the western world.” And what would cause these crises? The report went on to blame global COOLING for famines in the Soviet Union, droughts in South America, and flooding across the U.S.

Fast forward ahead 41 years and you have the President of the United States in Paris calling for a global effort to combat global WARMING. If we fast forward 41 years ahead will we be back to the global cooling scenarios? Just another example to prove that saying the “science is settled” is baloney.

2) While in Paris at the climate conference the President went on to push for a climate deal that would be an “act of defiance” against terrorism. Right, fix climate change and those Islamic crazies in ISIS will immediately start acting like rational human beings and lay down their arms, stop enslaving women and children, stop slaughtering Christians and Jews, and stop tossing homosexuals off tall buildings. It is that simple. Again, more baloney from the global warming advocate side.

3) The MRCTV website recently discussed another opinion poll that shows that Americans have far bigger and more important concerns than the potential issue of man made global warming and climate change. Dan Joseph wrote about a new Fox News poll:

  • When asked what they consider the top issue facing us today, 24% of respondents made terrorism the top issue in their minds.
  • This was up from 11% the last time Fox conducted the poll.
  • 21% said the economy was the top issue in their minds.
  • Only 3% said that climate change was the most important issue facing the country today, a measly three out of a hundred.
  • This was consistent with another poll we recently cited that showed at least sixteen issues being viewed as more important than climate change.
Another example of the Washington political class being out of touch with the desires and priorities of ordinary Americans. Obama and others within his administration are traveling the world and devoting their lives to an issue that might be a non-issue and which only 3 out of 100 Americans care about.

3) We have talked about the following comedy of errors before but we have a new set of characters to discuss now. According to a recent Heritage Foundation article, while at the Paris climate conference Obama stated that: “there is such a thing as being too late. And when it comes to climate change, that hour is almost upon us.” But we have apparently almost been “too late” before:

  • In 2011, Rev. Dr. Olav Fykse Tveit, the World Council of Churches general secretary, designated the UN’s UNFCCC COP17 the last opportunity for the international community to be responsible in addressing climate change.”
  • At the 2009 United Nations global warming conference in Copenhagen, former British Prime Minister Gordon Brown claimed that, “If we do not reach a deal at this time, let us be in no doubt: once the damage from unchecked emissions growth is done, no retrospective global agreement in some future period can undo that choice. By then it will be irretrievably too late.
  • At that same conference, Stavros Dimas, European Union environment minister, warned that “Copenhagen [is] the world’s last chance to stop climate change before it passes the point of no return.”
  • In 2007, Philip Clapp, head of the Washington-based National Environment Trust, said that 2007 was critical to reduce greenhouse gas emissions: “The scientists are telling us that this is the world’s last shot at avoiding the worst consequences of global warming.”
It seems it has always been almost too late to get the global warming issue addressed and under control. There is a children’s fairy tale for this sort of behavior: it is called Chicken Little. How many times are we to be told that disaster is imminent and disaster never comes close to occurring?

4) The Personal Liberty website back in late November, 2015 discussed another real scientist that had his doubts about global warming. At a Texas climate conference in late 2015, Princeton physicist Dr. Will Harper said political policies that upend the energy sector to achieve the stated goal of reducing CO2 levels are simply “nonsense:” “Policies to slow CO2 emissions are really based on nonsense. We are being led down a false path. To call carbon dioxide a ‘pollutant’ is really Orwellian. You are calling something a pollutant that we all produce. Where does that lead us eventually? Coal, formed from ancient CO2, is a benefit to the world. Coal is CO2 from ancient atmospheres. We are simply returning CO2 to the atmosphere from which it came when you burn coal. And it’s a good thing, since it is at very low levels in the atmosphere. We are in a CO2 famine. It is very, very low.”

I do not know if Dr. Harper is correct in this matter. But I am pretty sure he has more credibility and education than Al Gore and Barack Obama have in this area and thus, I would bet that the good Dr. is more accurate than the politicians mentioned in this sentence.

5) Brittany M. Hughes, writing for the MRCTV website on November 24, 2015, also dug up some historical publications that reviewed how scientists and “experts” of their time were convinced that based on science, global cooling was inevitable:

  • In a New York Times article from January 30, 1961, the first sentence read as follows: “After a week of discussions on the causes of climate change, an assembly of specialists from several continents seems to have reached unanimous agreement on only one point: it is getting colder.”
  • The title of that article was: “Scientists Agree World Is Colder.”
  • In that article, scientists from around the world blamed numerous factors for the forecasted global cooling including including the “shape of the Earth’s orbit around the sun,” “the tilt of the earth’s axis,” the solstices, the sun, “changes in transparency of the atmosphere,” dust spewed from volcanic eruptions, industrial smoke blocking sunlight, and the presence of too much or not enough ice in the Arctic.
  • The Ukiah Daily Journal (not quite the New York Times in prestige and reputation but still a historical perspective), in a November, 1974 article, wrote that the U.S. and the Soviet Union were thinking about damming up the Bering Strait in an effort to deliberately warm the Earth’s temperature and avoid a catastrophic ice age.
  • The article claimed that the earth was facing an ice age that could last anywhere from 200 to 10,000 years, and result in “rivers of solid ice again as far south as Yosemite in California and Cincinnati, Ohio.”
  • The article also claimed that period scientists had developed about 60 theories to explain the cooling phenomenon.
  • One proposed solution was that a man made space heater device needed to be deployed in order to “convert the American southwestern deserts into verdant green valleys” and “stave off worldwide famine.”
As with most expert opinions on climate over time, they were grossly wrong.

That will do it for today’s and this month’s global warming update. Over and over we prove that it is completely logical, sane, and rational to be a global warming doubter and a believer in science. We have also proven over and over that climate forecasting models are almost always totally incorrect, the claims of global warming advocates are almost always a fallacy (e. g., the demise of the polar bear population), and for sure, the science is not settled. Too many real scientists have shown that doubting the global warming theory is really good science. More next month.

January, 2016, Part 4, I Am A Global Warming Doubter and A Believer In Science: NASA Contradicts Obama, EPA Contradicts Obama and Long Range Forecasts Fail Again

Every month we have enough material to return to a continuing theme in this blog, namely that “I am a global warming doubter AND a believer in science.” This became of interest because of people like Al Gore who fanatically and verbosely claimed that you had to be an idiot to not believe in manmade global warming.

Thus, let’s see the latest facts and science that prove you can be a global warming doubter and a believer in science, regardless of what Al Gore proclaims:

1) Congressman Lamar Smith recently wrote an op-ed for USA Today to rebut the President’s proposed EPA regulations aimed directly at the U.S. coal industry: "To justify its proposal, the administration makes exaggerated statements and predictions." The Congressman contends that the plan will raise electric bills for every American family and business, suppress economic growth, and he reiterates Obama's own EPA analysis that the plan will come nowhere close to reducing the earth’s temperature by 2 degrees Celsius.

Regarding the EPA’s forecast of the impact, Smith stated: "If implemented, the EPA's own data show that the electricity regulation that is the cornerstone of the president's pledge would reduce global temperatures by only one-fiftieth of a degree Celsius." The Congressman also pointed out some realities that we have already published in this blog, namely that according to official U.S. government data and tracking, the weather had not gotten worse over time as a result of global warming: "President Obama often suggests that hurricanes, tornadoes and droughts have increased as a result of climate change. The facts are that hurricanes in the U.S. have not increased in frequency, intensity or damage since at least 1900. Government data also indicate little connection between climate change and tornadoes and droughts."

And the Congressman is not only anti-global warming but has proposed a different approach to dealing with our energy problems and issues: "A better solution is to rely on technological advances that have solved many challenges. Let's harness entrepreneurship and innovation and let technology lead rather than impose burdensome and ineffective regulations on the American people."

More fact reviews that make it okay to be a global warming doubter and a believer in science….and a believer in technology advancement via science, a path that has resolved many of mankind’s past problems.

2) One of the biggest downfalls in the belief that mankind’s activities are causing global warming is that the so-called experts have never been able to accurately predict what will happen either by expressing their opinions or publishing forecast model results. They have almost always been embarrassingly wrong. Be wrong enough times and people start believing anything you say since you have NEVER right.

So when Al Gore incorrectly predicts that the North Pole ice cap could be completely melted by 2015 (did not happen) or when we are told that polar bears will be extinct shortly (did not happen), or when Barack Obama says the hour for action has to be soon (probably also wrong) relative to global warming, consider the following top ten list of failed climate forecasts, as compiled by the Federalist Papers website, forecasts that were considered to be accurate since they were done by the “experts” of that time:

  1. In the 1970s, Biologist Paul Ehrlich predicted: “Population will inevitably and completely outstrip whatever small increases in food supplies we make,” and that “The death rate will increase until at least 100-200 million people per year will be starving to death during the next ten years.” Did not happen, technology increased the productivity of farmland and farming methods to help avoid mass starvation.
  2. Life magazine reported in their January, 1970 issue, “Scientists have solid experimental and theoretical evidence to support…the following predictions: In a decade, urban dwellers will have to wear gas masks to survive air pollution…by 1985 air pollution will have reduced the amount of sunlight reaching earth by one half….” Did not happen, sane and rational laws stopped the growth of air pollution in a relatively short time frame.
  3. In January 2006 Al Gore predicted that we had ten years left before the planet turned into a "total frying pan.Did not happen, as the frigidly cold winters of the previous two years prove.
  4. In 2008, ABC News predicted that NYC would be underwater by June 2015. Did not happen or come close to happening.
  5. Ecologist Kenneth E.F. Watt predicted in 1970 that “If present trends continue, the world will be about four degrees colder for the global mean temperature in 1990, but 11 degrees colder by the year 2000, This is about twice what it would take to put us in an ice age.” Did not happen but it is refreshing to see a climate expert predict wrongly on global cooling vs. predict wrongly on global warming.
  6. In 2008, Al Gore predicted that there is a 75% chance that the entire north polar ice cap would be completely melted within 5-7 years. Did not happen, in fact, the northern polar ice cap is getting larger, not disappearing.
  7. In May, 2014 France’s foreign minister confidently predicted that we only have 500 days to stop “climate chaos.” Did not happen, over 700 days later chaos has not started.
  8. In 2009, National Aeronautics and Space Administration Goddard Space Flight Center head James Wassen warned that Obama only had four years left to save the earth. Did not happen. In fact, seven years after Goddard’s prediction, earth is doing pretty well climate wise without any help from Obama.
  9. The sponsor of the first Earth Day predicted that “in 25 years [1995], somewhere between 75 and 80 percent of all the species of living animals will be extinct.” Did not happen, twenty years after the 25 years we nowhere close to the number of species have gone extinct.
  10. Another Earth Day prediction, this one also from Kenneth Watt: “At the present rate of nitrogen buildup, it’s only a matter of time before light will be filtered out of the atmosphere and none of our land will be usable.” Did not happen, back in the 1970s it looked like nitrogen was the bad guy as compared to carbon today.
The original article discussing these mega failures of prediction can be accessed at:

The bottom line is that today’s global warming and climate change alarmists are far more likely to be tomorrow’s Chicken Littles, much like the ten forecasters above became. That is not to say global warming as caused by mankind is not real. It is just that those that advocate for it ignore much of the realities and science that say it is a fallacy and berate those of us that look at all of the facts.

We have always called for a comprehensive adult conversation on the issue to ensure that we do not spend trillions of dollars on something that looks as ridiculous to Americans thirty years from now as the above ten predictions look to us today.

3) I often wonder if Al Gore regrets ever predicting that global warming could possibly wipe out an entire ice cap within five years. No global warming prediction has proven to be so visible and so wrong and so embarrassing.

The Federalist Papers website recently ran a report to show how very wrong the prediction actually was. It highlighted a recent report from NASA, a Federal government entity to be sure, on the polar ice caps. Highlights of the report's findings include the following realities:
  • The new NASA report found that Antarctic snow accumulation that began 10,000 years ago is adding more ice to the southernmost continent to outweigh the ice losses from thinning glaciers.
  • This finding contradicts the belief of the UN’s panel on climate change which claimed in 2013 that Antarctica is losing ice volume.
  • The NASA analysis estimated that Antarctic gained 112 billion tons of ice A YEAR from 1992 to 2001 and 82 billion tons of ice annually from 2003 to 2008.
  • Jay Zwally, a glaciologist with NASA Goddard Space Flight Center in Greenbelt, Maryland, and lead author of the study, which was published in the Journal of Glaciology, summed up the findings as follows: “We’re essentially in agreement with other studies that show an increase in ice discharge in the Antarctic Peninsula and the Thwaites and Pine Island region of West Antarctica. Our main disagreement is for East Antarctica and the interior of West Antarctica – there, we see an ice gain that exceeds the losses in the other areas.”
  • Zwally went on to say: “The good news is that Antarctica is not currently contributing to sea level rise, but is taking 0.23 millimeters per year away.”
So, the south pole is not shrinking, according to NASA. We have previously discussed other times in this blog how the north pole is not shrinking. We have previously reported that the polar bear population is bigger than it was decades ago. We have previously reported how global warming basically stopped twenty years ago. And that is why being a global warming doubter and a believer in science is still a sane, rational position to have.
So what did we learn today:
  1. Members of Congress and the EPA know that Obama's energy plans and regulations will have minimal, if any, impact on the earth’s temperatures.
  2. Past climate forecasts have been wrong in so many ways.
  3. NASA analysis proves that the south pole is actually grow in ice mass, contrary to any forecast that global warming advocates always claimed would happen.
More global warming doubting and science tomorrow.
