There is a lot going on in the world: Obama and Russiagate findings, Middle East powder keg, the Russian/Ukrainian war, etc. But through all this, the American political class continues to constantly deliver its own special brand of insanity, stupidity, wasteful taxpayer spending, and ineffective government programs.
1)Consider a generally accepted definition of “constituent”: Being a voting member of a community or organization and having the power to appoint or elect.
Pretty straightforward: politicians are elected because their constituents voted them into office. And yet, an Arizona politician from, Yassamin Amsari, recently showed incredible ignorance of a very basic definition in politics. She basically admitted that she did not understand the term "constituent" even though her constituents elected her to office.
Like many other Democrats in this country, she seems to have more sympathy for illegal immigrants than Americans in need. During a visit to an illegal immigrant detention center, she referred to the illegal immigrants in detention as her “constituents.” Not her voters, not Americans but illegal immigrants who violated our laws are her constituents.
Of course, when her ignorance was discussed, she blamed the “right wing media.” She then dug her hole deeper by claiming that “if somebody lives in the community, I represent them.” No she doesn’t, she represents citizens, not those who broke our immigration laws.
Notice that she did not visit a food bank that feeds hungry Americans, she did not visit a shelter that gives shelter to homeless Americans, she did not visit a medical clinic that helps Americans fighting drug addiction. She visited an illegal immigration detention center for criminals and claimed they were her constituents. Disgusting priorities.
2)We have often maintained that a primary function of any government entity is to protect the lives and property of the citizens they represent. This argument is usually in the context of violent street crime being placed on innocent civilians.
However, Biden added a different perspective to his tenet of protecting the lives of Americans:
Apparently the Biden administration reduced the testing thresholds for Federal air traffic controller applicants.
In other words, Biden made it easier for less qualified people to guide the plane you are riding on to the ground.
The change was made in 2023 when the Federal Aviation Agency (FAA) set a minimum test score to become a “best qualified” air traffic controller from 85% to 80%.
This reduction in proficiency was part of a larger set of FAA problems which included almost a third of air traffic control locations operating below recommended staffing levels.
Thus, rather than find a way to get more qualified people to staff these valuable safety positions the FAA just changed the proficiency levels to make up for the staffing shortage.
So the flying public was presented with a no-win choice: not have enough controllers on the job because the FAA could not find enough qualified people or have enough people on the job with substandard proficiency. Another Federal government failure to protect the lives of Americans.
3)Following on the theme that politicians are almost never successful in the programs and endeavors they undertake or they operate, be it anit-crime programs, education, programs, infrastructure building programs, FAA air traffic controller programs or building a presidential library as we below:
Barack Obama was from Chicago so it kinda makes sense that his Presidential library should be built in his home town.
But the cost, a whopping $850 million, and the disruption to the neighborhood that was unfortunate enough to be the site of his library has been enough to tick off those living around the site.
Besides the ridiculous cost, this monstrosity is taking up a whopping 19 acres of the Jackson Park area in Chicago.
It is scheduled to open in April, 2026, five years later than originally promised.
It’s construction cost is already three times higher than the original budget estimate.
Not incorrectly, locals have called everything, from a "concrete tomb” for its ugly design to a “monument to megalomania" to a “giant trash can” for its cost and magnitude for what was really a so-so Presidency and President.
And despite helping the local community which was originally promised, it has negative impacts for those living in the area as one activist pointed out: “We’re going to see rents go higher and families displaced. Every time large development comes to communities, they displace the very people they say they want to improve it for.”
Local apartments that once rented for about $800 a month now cost on average around $1,800, more than a 100% increase.
Home prices have jumped up to between $300,000 and $400,000 on average, pricing many locals out of both the rental home rental and ownership market.
And despite this huge, egomaniac effort, the site will hold no original Obama Presidency documents, unlike every Presidential library before him.
225 feet high, way over budget, way past completion date, huge disruption to the local community, another failure from another failed American politician.
4)We have often complimented Trump and Musk on their efforts to get excessive and crime riddled government programs under control and have them stop wasting taxpayer wealth. Fortunately, another source of that criminal and wasteful spending was recently busted up in the state of Minnesota:
Guhaad Hashi Said recently pleaded guilty to one count of conspiracy to commit wire fraud and one count of conspiracy to commit money laundering.
It was a result of his role in a massive fraud plan to drain a Federal government child nutrition program during the Covid years.
Acting U.S. Attorney Joseph Thonnpson commented on the fraud scheme: “The conviction of the 52nd defendant in the Feeding our Future case is yet another reminder of the vast reach of this fraud and the scale of the crisis we face in Minnesota. These crimes are not isolated events. They are part of a web of schemes targeting programs that are intended to lift up Minnesotans and bleeding them dry. From where I sit, the scale of the fraud in Minnesota is staggering, and every rock we turn over reveals more. We must be honest and clear-eyed about the scope of this problem, because ending it will take an unyielding, all-hands-on-deck effort from all of us.”
The conspirators set up a fake nutrition program that fed very few kids but submitted fake invoices to be reimbursed by the Federal government.
They claimed they were feeding 5,000 kids a DAY but in reality were serving a tiny fraction of that number.
They created false meal counts, false attendance records, and fake invoices.
In total, they garnered $2.9 million from their criminal enterprise in taxpayer wealth.
He faces up to 25 years in prison.
The good news is that this criminal effort has been shut down and hopefully a lot of the $2.9 million can be recovered. The bad news is that there are probably many other criminal efforts still operating and still pilfering taxpayer dollars. Hopefully, Trump and his administration can continue to root out and prosecute these perps for ripping off the American taxpayer.
Enough insanity for today: another criminally infested Federal government program, a monument to egomania in Chicago, sacrificing safety in the FAA, and an Arizona politician cares more about illegal immigrants than Americans in need.
