Never Ending Government Corruption, 2026, Part One

Later in December, 2025  we did  a series of posts on just how out of control the criminal  fraud being committed against government taxpayer funded programs has become. Billions and billions of dollars being funneled into criminal enterprises and never reaching the people who were most in need of those services.

The first of those posts can be accessed at:

https://loathemygovernment.blogspot.com/2025/12/never-ending-government-corruption-part.html

Obviously, many of those discussions were focused on the despicable corruption of government programs in  Minnesota, with most of the fraud apparently being  committed by Somali immigrants.  However, they are not the only people ripping off government programs and taxpayers:

1)Let’s start with a discussion reported by the Open The Books website:

  • According to Congressional reports, during 2024, Federal government  entities tallied $161.5 billion in improper payments.

  • This consisted of taxpayer wealth being sent to the wrong entity, money sent in the wrong amount, or money sent for the wrong reason.

  • This information was tabulated and presented by the Office of Management and Budget last November.

  • But that was just in 2024.

  • According to the analysis, Biden presided over $825.7 billion in wasted, criminal  fraud, criminal abuse, and duplicative payments in his four years as President.

  • When adjusted for inflation, Biden had the worst performance in improper payments of any President since record keeping began in 2004.

  • He set a record in 2021 when a whopping $281.4 billion was sent out improperly .

  • Medicare was the worst culprit in  misspending taxpayer wealth with a 7.7% mistake rate

  • $3.6 billion of Covid funds were sent to dead people.

Another day, another almost trillion dollars wasted by inefficient, ineffective, and criminally corrupted government programs.

2)But the Open The Books article discussed apparently did not cover the following Medicaid corruption and incompetency:

  • Ten years ago, Judicial Watch found that Medicaid sent $26 million in benefits to dead people in a single state.

  • A recent Federal government audit found that this type of wasteful spending still  exists in Washington.

  • For example, Illinois sent over $9.5 million of Medicaid funds to inmates in Illinois prisons.

  • Since 2016 the inspector general of Health and  Human Services found that Medicaid processes had made $289 million in improper payments to dead people.

  • But the payments to dead people are dwarfed by the overall Medicaid fraud and waste since the Government Accountability Office found that in 2024 about $31 billion  in bad payments.

So the fraud we have  discussed in detail previously was not  limited to Minnesota, it is a national problem of ineptness and stupidity.

3)A Federal  government  prosecutor, Bill Essayli,  recently accused the governor of California, Gavin  Newsom, of failing to properly oversee state government  spending on  homeless programs in the state. The focus is on an allegation that $24 billion was lost via corruption and incompetence in several state government homeless housing public programs.

This is not the first time that California programs have been suspected of  being infested with fraud. During Covid when unemployment claims spiked, the government programs were not ready to  cope with the surge which could have  resulted in fraud totalling at least $10 billion in bad unemployment  claims.

4)But it is not just street criminals, Somali immigrants, and organized crime gangs that defraud taxpayer funded government programs:

  • A Georgia state representative, Karen Bennett, was recently indicted by a grand jury.

  • She is alleged to  have made false statements related to Covid unemployment benefits back in the days of the pandemic.

  • Apparently she claimed her in-home therapy business, Metro Therapy Solutions, was closed because of the pandemic and she applied for and  received $13,040 in government benefits.

  • However, the business was mostly open during the pandemic and thus, she was not entitled to the payout.

  • She also  allegedly failed to mention  on  her Covid benefit form that she was working at another job during Covid.

  • But she is not alone in Georgia fraud since another state lawmaker, Sharon Henderson, is facing Federal charges that include theft of government funds and making false statements relative to getting pandemic benefits.

Sad when  the gatekeepers of taxpayer  wealth are  also the alleged  pilferers of taxpayer wealth.

So what did  learn about government  corruption  today:  politicians in at least one state are guilty of  corruption, California has lost tens of billions of dollars via criminal corruption in their government programs, and the Federal government has lost billions and billions of dollars by sending money to dead people, sending money to people in prison, and assorted other ways to waste away taxpayer wealth.

July, 2017, Part 1, The Unfolding Disaster That Is Obama Care: Republicans That Cannot Plan and Democrats Who Cannot Tell The Truth

Every month for years now we have had to discuss how bad Obama Care is turning out to be under the continuing theme, “the unfolding disaster that is Obama Care.” This month is no different. As the legislation continues to march through America, driving up health care and health insurance prices as it serves as dead weight on economic growth, it cements its rightful place as the worst piece of legislation Washington has ever produced.

It never had a chance to be successful since it really never addressed the underlying root causes of our ever increasing health costs in the country:
  • Americans eat too much of the wrong kind of food, resulting in obscenely high obesity rates for the country.
  • Our food chain is infested with overdoses of high fructose corn syrup, salt, sugar, and other unhealthy additives.
  • Americans smoke too much.
  • Americans do not exercise enough.
  • The country is in serious need of health care tort reform.
  • Barriers to insurance company competition across state lines need to come down.
  • Obama Care never “followed the money” to find out who is actually profiting from the ever escalating healthcare costs in this country and how to get those factors under control.
  • Obama Care never got the immense amount of fraud and abuse in current government healthcare programs, Medicare and Medicaid, under control in order to save money to efficiently fund other government health care initiatives.
  • Obama Care never put serious research money towards curing the major diseases that drive high healthcare costs such as high frequency cancers and dementia type diseases.
  • You cannot resolve any problem unless you understand and address the underlying root causes. No difference here: Obama Care legislation never addressed these listed root causes and thus, has no chance of ever being successful.
But it is not just missing the root causes of our healthcare costs that makes Obama Care so horrible. It resulted in millions of Americans losing access to their favored doctors, hospitals, and insurance policies. It has caused insurance premiums, deductibles and copays to escalate substantially. It will likely add trillions of dollars to the national debt. It has exposed millions of Americans to higher than necessary identity theft chances. It has created government bureaucracies that are wastefully spending taxpayer wealth and being exploited by criminal elements. It has stifled economic growth and job creation.

These are just a sample of the types of idiocy that we have been reviewing for the past several years in this blog relative to Obama Care., To read those past posts, just enter the phrase, “the unfolding disaster,” in the search box above.

1) Let me start this month’s Obama Care disaster review with a quick hit on Congressional Republicans. For like seven years they have correctly ranted and raved about how much of a disaster Obama Care is. They have correctly pointed out that none of the rosy promises Obama made about the legislation came close to becoming reality. Many of their successful election campaigns were based on how bad Obama Care was and how it needed to be repealed and/or replaced.

Thus, given that they had seven years to come up with a workable and working alternative to this rancid piece of legislation, one would have hoped that when they did regain control of both houses of Congress and the Presidency that would have done their homework and had a replacement bill ready to go the first day they could. That they would have negotiated out any differences within their party over the past seven years to have the best bill possible that would sail through to enactment.

But alas, as always when dealing with the political class, hope does not exist. When it was their turn at bat, they could not find their bat. When it was their turn to go for a touchdown, they could not find their helmet. They had nothing ready to go once the situation was perfect for them and as a result, their infighting has resulted in nothing to replace or repeal Obama Care. Heaven help us from all politicians and their inability to resolve any problem.

2) More than half of those who got health insurance under Obama Care did not get it through robust individual insurance policies purchased on the open market. They got Federal government insurance via Medicaid. While Medicaid is a low cost insurance option, it is also a low quality health insurance and health care option in so many ways, many of which we have previously discussed in this blog.

Betsy McCaughey is the chairperson of the Committee To Reduce Infection Deaths so she obviously knows something about health care and disease. In a July 5, 2017 article for the Heritage Foundation, she lays out her expert opinion on why Medicaid is so frigging bad for your health:
  • First off she destroys the myth that liberals and Democrats are spewing that Republican efforts to fix the damage done by Obama Care will get senior citizens evicted from nursing homes, calling it “sheer demagoguery.”
  • But she does imply that in one sense that would be a good thing in some cases since many Medicaid nursing homes are afflicted with “filth, rampant infections, and neglect—conditions routinely tolerated by our indifferent public officials.”
  • For example, New York state pays out some of the highest Medicaid rates in the country but according to the Federal government ratings a whopping 40% of New York state nursing homes provide inferior care.
  • This 40% is not even the worse in the country since 10 other states have higher rates of inferior care in their nursing homes.
  • Across the country one third of nursing home residents, often Medicaid patients, incur serious, often permanent injuries due to neglect according to a recent Federal government inspector general report.
  • The Federal government estimates that annually 380,000 Americans in nursing homes die from infections that they caught in those nursing homes.
  • So you can see, in one sense, getting kicked out of a sub par nursing home might IMPROVE your health.
But that is besides the point. Republicans efforts to fix the Obama Care damage does not “gut” Medicaid spending as liberals and Democrats claim, it just slows down the rate of growth in Medicaid spending. And if Washington was doing its job and cleaned up the massive inefficiencies and criminal fraud in Medicaid that results in horrible nursing home conditions and the criminal pilfering of the Medicaid program then everyone’s health would be a lot better, And their would be more than enough money to help those that truly need better help than what they are getting today.

And by the way, Medicaid spending growth has to be brought under control. As we have reported previously, in four state budgets today Medicaid spending accounts for over 30% of the entire state government budget. As Medicaid keeps growing in costs, there is less and less state government resources for roads, schools, and other needed services.

Medicaid is like a fifty year old pickup truck that was designed to tow two tons. It was never fixed up and kept in good shape over those fifty years. And then Obama Care came around, without upgrading anything within that old pickup truck, and told it to haul ten tons. As a result that fifty year old pickup truck is falling apart and costing more and more every year to do a job it was not designed to do. Fix the Medicaid truck, Washington or get a new one so that 40% of New York state nursing home patients do not live in squalor.

Depressing stuff to start off this month's Obama Care disaster review. Republicans that cannot plan ahead and Democrats who cannot tell the truth. Lord help us as we continue this week with the unfolding disaster that is Obama Care.

July, 2014 Political Class Insanity, Part 1: Corruption At The Export-Import Bank, Housing Still In The Dumps, Household Savings In The Dumps, And Medicaid Fraud Continues

It’s the beginning of another month which means it is that time again to review the latest lunacy, insanity, ineffective government programs, and wasteful spending of the American political class. I sincerely believe that we are currently living through a period in this country’s history where we are being served by the most ineffective and unproductive set of politicians that this country has ever had to endure.

Given that the latest approval rating for the U.S. Congress and the current President are at their lowest levels ever, it seems that a lot of America agrees with this assertion and observation. To prove our point, take a look at the following recent instances of insanity and see if you do not disagree:

1) The Federal government’s Export-Import bank is a Federal agency that supplies low cost loans and loan guarantees to other countries and companies in other countries in an attempt to have them purchase U.S. goods and services. The prime example and beneficiary of the Export-Import Bank is Boeing. Foreign airline carriers can get low cost loans from the American taxpayer to purchase airplanes from Boeing. This helps Boeing sell planes overseas and theoretically helps Boeing hire more American workers at its domestic airplane manufacturing plants.

But the questions that should be asked is why aren’t Boeing and Boeing shareholders doing this work, making these loans, taking these risks? Shouldn’t that be part of their business plan and responsibility? Why should the American taxpayer put their wealth at risk?

All good questions and pertinent since later this year the renewal of the chart for the Export-Import Bank is up for renewal and it is getting a lot of Washington attention. Some in Washington want to terminate the program since it is a prime example of crony capitalism at the expense of the American taxpayer. Others, most likely campaign funding recipients from companies like Boeing, want to keep the program alive and funded.

But let’s ask a different question: how well run is the operation? Not too well according to recent news reports:
  • The Wall Street Journal recently reported that four employees of the Export-Import Bank have been removed in recent months because of allegations of kickbacks, steering Federal contracts to favored firms, and other corruption.
  • The Heritage Foundation identified at least 74 instances in the past five years where bank executives were forced to act on the basis of “integrity” investigations by the Office of Inspector General.
  • Dozens of other fraud cases involving Export-Import beneficiaries have been referred to the Department of Justice for prosecution.
  • In a 2013 report to Congress, the Office of Inspector General (IG) characterized the Export-Import Banke as exhibiting “weaknesses in governance and internal controls for business operations.”
  • The latest updated report to Congress noted the dismissal of two bank employees and a letter of reprimand against another in a six-month period as a result of the IG’s investigations.
  • According to a 2013 government survey, only 42% of bank employees agreed with the statement: “My organization’s leaders maintain high standards of honesty and integrity.”
  • Only half of those surveyed agreed they can disclose a suspected violation of any law, rule or regulation without fear of reprisal.
  • These results are not surprising since as of March 31, 2014, 47 criminal judgments and 42 pleas were obtained in the preceding six months.
  • One example of the corruption and incompetence revolves around the fact that the bank approved a whopping 96 loan transactions in a two-year period for Gangland, USA, which purported to export electronics from Miami to South America. However, according to prosecutors, company owner Jose L. Quijano received more than $3.6 million in fraudulent loans from the bank.
  • The bank approved 18 loans involving $13.6 million to Leopoldo Parra, who pleaded guilty in 2012 to wire fraud and conspiracy to commit money laundering. According to prosecutors, Parra and his co-conspirators fraudulently obtained the loan proceeds and used them for personal gain.
We could go on and on with other documented cases of fraud, criminal negligence, and cronyism but you get the idea. It is impossible to believe that an organization run this poorly and this fraudulently has any chance of being a net positive to the American taxpayer.

Additionally, an in-depth article from Forbes in early May, 2014 pointed out that about 70% of the bank’s activity is solely dedicated to supporting Boeing, the bank only affects about 2% of the nation’s exports, it is likely a net negative to the Federal deficit, and it disadvantages many domestic companies. (http://www.forbes.com/sites/dougbandow/2014/05/05/close-the-export-import-bank-cut-federal-liabilities-kill-corporate-welfare-promote-free-trade/2/)

Shut it down and make companies like Boeing pay for their own customer financing and risk, regardless of how it affects campaign contributions to incumbent politicians.

2) This falls into the good news/bad news situation. More than four years after the Great Recession ended, the economy is still struggling to recover, making this post recession recovery the worst ever. Seems the Washington political class still has no clue when it comes to generating economic growth despite record lengths of time with record low interest rates, an $800 billion failed economic stimulus plan, and an energy revolution going on that helped reduce energy costs over the past several years.

But here’s some good economic news: last month, new home sales nationally surged by 18.6%. The bad news: those sales levels are still a whopping 63% below the levels enjoyed before the recession. They are also still way below where they were in the early 2000s, before the housing bubble starting to grow. The following chart summarizes the dire housing situation, courtesy of the political class:

New Home Sales Surge By 18.6% In May, Now Only 63% Below Pre-Crisis Highs

There can be no doubt that when it comes to economics and economic policy, our current politicians are insanely ignorant and ineffective.

3) Despite being years away from the latest recession, a recent survey from Bankrate of consumers found that just one in four Americans has no emergency savings in their household. Additionally, sixty-seven percent of the survey respondents have saved less than the recommended six months’ worth of expenses and half have saved less than three months’ expenses. The percentage of Americans with at least three months’ expenses in savings declined from 45% last year to just 40% this year.

According to Greg McBride, Bankrate’s chief financial analyst: “Americans continue to show a stunning lack of progress in accumulating sufficient emergency savings. Even among the highest-income households -- those with annual income of $75,000 or above -- fewer than half (46%) currently have a six-month savings cushion."

Given that the economy shrank a whopping 2.9% in the first quarter of this year, historically we are due for another recession soon, over twenty million Americans are still unemployed or underemployed, and we just proved that the political class has no idea how to manage economic policies and growth strategies, many Americans and their families are likely to be facing some severe financial times in the near future.

4) Let’s finish up today with another expensive example of wasteful spending of taxpayer wealth, courtesy of government incompetence and the political inability to operate a bureaucracy. Medicaid, the health care organization that the Obama administration wants to significantly increase in size, wrongly paid out more than $14 billion in 2013 to managed care organizations.

The fraudulently paid out expenses were often for treatments and services that were not necessary, were never performed or were not eligible for Medicaid funding and coverage. To put the fraud in perspective, according to the Government Accountability Office (GAO), $14 billion could have been used to pay for the brand new airport being built in Beijing, China and was equal to the how much the U.S. government spent on training Iraq’s military over the past eleven years. $14 billion is a lot of money, all of which vanished to do the ineptness of the Federal government.

According to the GAO, government entities at both the state and Federal levels have recovered "only a small portion" of the fraudulently paid out taxpayer wealth. Thus, the GAO has "little confidence that Medicaid can fix its processes and as Obama Care expands Medicaid enrollees, even more dollars will be "vulnerable to improper payments."

What sane person or organization expands its operations before fixing its operations that are currently losing billions of dollars to fraud and incompetence? The Federal government and the political class that operates it, of course.

That will do it for the insanity today. We now know that the Export-Import Bank needs to fade into history, given the rampant cronyism of its operations, politicians make very bad economists as measured by the pitiful state of the housing industry and the pitiful state of Americans’ saving profile, and Medicaid is still a hotbed of wasteful spending and criminal fraud, a situation that is likely to get worst going forward. More insanity tomorrow.
