December, 2023, Part 9, Political Class Insanity: American Taxpayers Pay For Hamas Terror Tunnels and Indian Writers, Free Tampons In Canada, and More

 A few last notes on American political class insanity for this month and this year:

1)In America today, millions of Americans are suffering:

• At any time there are about 600,000 homeless Americans living on the streets with tens of thousands of them being our armed services  veterans.

• It is  estimated that about 17 million Americans are in a food crisis because of high inflation and high food prices.

• Millions and  millions of Americans are without medical  insurance or adequate medical care.

• Millions and millions of Americans are in need of drug addiction treatment especially since Biden's border policies have allowed an unheard of amount of illegal drugs to flood into the country.

One would hope that American politicians would be focused on helping these Americans in need. But as always with our politicians, hope is never present.

Consider:

• Douglas Murray is a reporter for the New York Post and he was recently allowed to visit the Hamas terror tunnels that the terrorist group Hamas has constructed under the Gaza Strip.

• The sole purpose of these tunnels has been to build an underground network that could be used to attack and kill innocent Israeli citizens.

• And these are not just simple crawl spaces, these are sophisticated tunnels that are big enough to drive vehicles in.

• To  build such tunnels, it has to have taken billions of dollars, dollars that were intended for the poor citizens of Gaza but which were hijacked by Hamas leaders for their own enrichment and their desire to kill Israelis.

• And to probably no one’s surprise, Murray reports that over the past 16 years or so, the American taxpayers have donated about $400,000,000 to these heinous individuals.

An incredible waste of our tax dollars which help finance the fatal consequences for over 1,400 innocent Israeli citizens. Think how that $400 million could have been used to help Americans in need:

• That money could have provided about 230 nutritious meals to everyone of those 600,000 homeless Americans.

• That money could have provided drug addiction treatment to over 60,000 struggling Americans over a year’s time.

And yet the Washington political class decided it was better off to fund a terror organization halfway around the world than to help struggling American citizens. Disgusting.

2)But the stupid wasting of American taxpayer wealth does not end in Gaza:

• The U.S. State Department has provided American taxpayer dollars to a “queer” Muslim organization in India to provide “LGBTQWI” people in the region with a online platform to write.

• Yes, a platform to write for people half a world away, funded with U.S. taxpayer money.

• The money was funneled through a George Soros organization, “Creating Resources for Empowerment and Action.”

• It eventually went to the Queer Muslim Project which is an “online platform for queer, Muslim and allied voices.”

• Somehow this idiocy is supposed to “support the achievement of U.S. foreign policy goals and objectives, advance national interests, and enhance national security,” which is obviously boilerplate nonsense.

• Output from this effort will be presented at a “leading Mumbai literature festival.”

• This idiocy follows on the heels of another State Department program that partnered with the Queer Muslim Project which paid for a 10-week “creative incubator” for young LGBTQIA writers which resulted in, wait for it, a magazine.

This has nothing to do with queer or LGBTQWI issues or biases. Our reaction would have been the same if it involved sending money to straight, white writers in Ireland. Americans are hungry, homeless and in need of medical care and  sending money overseas for writing projects, wherever it is going for whatever group, alleviates none of their suffering. It is an insult to American taxpayers and an affront to those citizens in need.

3)But American politicians do not have a monopoly on stupid political acts, as witnessed by some insanity that happened up in Canada recently:

• In an act of stupidity that has the full support of Canadian Prime Minister, Justin Trudeau, the Canadian government now requires that free tampons and other products for female periods be placed in men’s restrooms in government buildings, airports, and military places.

• A Twitter account, @HoCVStaffer, posted the official tampon policy online, a policy that asserts that tampons are really important basic needs and by giving them away for free in bathrooms the hope is that people will feel less embarrassed or awkward about menstruation, a normal part of life.

• Somehow someone in the government including the prime minister thought this was a good idea and a good use of taxpayer wealth.

So much wrong and stupid with this policy:

• How is witnessing a tampon in a men’s room going to make anyone “less embarrassed?” 

• Was market research done to verify this policy or did someone in the government have too much free time  on their hands and  needed to justify their job?

• Since when is it the job of any government function to provide free tampons, or other personal health products, to anyone who walks by?

• As a guy, I am pretty sure that men will either ignore this policy or the smart ones will simply just scoop up all of the free feminine hygiene products and bring them home to their wives and other females in their lives, saving themselves expenses while ripping off the Canadian taxpayer.

• And keep in mind that it is not just the expense of the products that the taxpayers are paying for, there is a labor cost involved in stocking and restocking the supplies after they have been hoarded and taken home.

• I assume that Canada also has homeless, hungry, and medical needs  for their citizens which would have been much better served with this funding.

• I would also assume that if you polled every Canadian that “the need for free, taxpayer subsidized tampons in men's rooms” would not make the top 100 list of citizen concerns.

It constantly blows one’s mind that politicians and government bureaucrats can  waste so much taxpayer wealth on such stupidity.

4)One area that politicians excel at is their ignorance of basic economic principles. This is playing out again in California:

• California state politicians have enacted legislation to raise the minimum wage to $20 in the state.

• State politician Chris Holden introduced the law and claims that it will help fast food workers feed their families and improve their quality of life.

• Nice sentiment that is completely devoid of economic understanding.

• Two things are going to happen because of this law, the first of which is that fast food restaurant owners will have to increase their product prices to pay for their increased salary costs which is going to increase food costs which will wipe out at least some of the benefit of the pay increase.

• Secondly, fast food restaurant owners will find ways to reduce their now increased salary costs by any way possible such as replacing human workers with machines.

• Or they will do what many in-state Pizza Hut owners have already said they are going to do, which is to fire over 1,200 delivery drivers, thus, reducing their labor costs.

• These Pizza Hut restaurants will rely on companies like DoorDash, GrubHub, and others to make deliveries, relieving them of the costs of paying 1,200 employees to deliver.

• These 1,200 were from just a small geographic area, it is expected that Pizza Huts in other areas will also cut out their delivery staff.

So here is the result of this faulty economic reasoning by Holden and his cohorts in state government: “The good news is that you are now making $20 an hour. The bad news is that you no longer have a job.”  So much for these 1,200 employees having an easier time feeding their families and improving their quality of life

But we could have predicted this outcome of higher wages leading to  high unemployment. Consider what happened out in the Washington state area a few years ago:

Wages were raised and people lost their jobs because of it, a precursor to the “Good news is that you are making more money, the bad news is that you no longer have a job.” 

It happened in the Seattle area in 2015 and it is going to happen again in California in 2024 simply because most American politicians have no understanding of basic economic principles. As a result, their actions result in higher inflation and more unemployment. The exact opposite of what they wanted.

That will be it for today: economic ignorance in California, tampon idiocy in Canada, wasting money on writing projects in India, and funding terrorism in Gaza. Never underestimate the ability of today’s politicians to waste money on bad priorities that usually have minimal impacts on society but if they do have impacts. it is usually negative, be it death in Israel  or unemployment in California.

May, 2018: Why I Am A Global Warming Doubter and A Believer In Science

Every month we have enough material to return to a continuing theme in this blog, namely that “I am a global warming doubter AND a believer in science.”This became of interest because of people like Al Gore who fanatically and verbosely claimed that you had to be an idiot to not believe in manmade global warming. It has been my life belief that anyone that is that loud and that obnoxious is hiding something, that rather than argue facts and reality it is better to beat down and insult anyone who disagrees.

As we have dove into the whole issue of manmade global warming, or its new rebranded title of climate change, we found that Al Gore and people like him were guilty of a number of things:

• Ignoring science and realities that did not support their opinions and positions.
• Rather than have an adult conversation about climate, these types of advocates like Gore sank to the level of insulting those who dared look at ALL science by calling them a variety of names including racists, homophobes, terrorists, flat earth believers, and other slanderous names.
• Continuing to insist that politicians step up their intrusions into our lives with higher taxes, more regulations, and more control on our freedoms and standards of living based on a shaky theory at best.

Thus, let’s see the latest facts and science that prove you can be a global warming doubter and a believer in science, regardless of what Al Gore proclaims.

1) The Joe For America website recently did a review of all of the research and scientists that has come out that show that global warming never really existed or stopped long ago:

• According to the author of the article, Scott Osborn on April 7, 2018, “Over the last few years, global warming has taken a strong hit as proof of serious data manipulation has surfaced, and now scientists are coming out of the closet everywhere showing true data that man-made climate change never even existed. Hundreds of scientists involved in a plethora of recent scientific papers are admitting that the scare about global warming is based on hysteria and false science.”
• In 2018 alone, 46 peer reviewed research reports have been published to debunk the global warming theory.
• During 2017, 150 graphs taken from 122 research papers were also published in peer reviewed publications which showed that current Earth temperatures are not unusual relative to history, i.e. they do not “fall outside the range of natural variability.”
• The Global Warming Policy Forum explains that the contemporary warming of the 20th century “does not stand out in the 2500-year perspective” and is “of the same magnitude as the Roman Warm Period and the Medieval Climate Anomaly.”
• Global warming is not an issue according to a number of research reports including McGowan et al., 2018, Northern Alaska (Hanna et al., 2018), the Tibetan Plateau (Li et al., 2018), South Korea (Song et al., 2018), Antarctica (Mikis, 2018), to cite just a few among dozens of others.
• Global warming advocates often point to Greenland as being the leading indicator of worldwide global warming but a study by Mikkelsen et al., 2018 shows that Greenland temperatures going back over 150 years are lower now than they were in the 1930s.
• In fact, another study, Westergaard-Nielsen et al., 2018, examined the most recent and detailed trends based on MODIS (2001–2015) and concluded that if there is any general trend for Greenland it is “mostly cooling”.
• The article republishes some graphs of historical temperatures over many decades and the result is always the same: no big deal going on relative to global warming:

 

• A study by Cerrone and Fusco, 2018 found a large increase in the south pole sea ice and that south pole cooling has been going on since the 1990s.

More reasons why it is perfectly sane to be a global warming doubter and a believer in science.

2) Libertarian journalist, John Stossel, writing for the Constitutional News Network website on march 20, 2018, pointed out the joke that the Paris Climate Agreement was:

• As most know, Trump pulled the U.S. out of the agreement, that was never legally binding since Obama was too lazy to get Senate approval of the agreement as required by the Constitution, and correctly calling the agreement a “massive redistribution of United States wealth to other countries.”
• Of course, people like Al Gore, Barack Obama, and other global warming advocates went crazy to see the country pull out of their supposedly Earth saving agreement.
• But we know now, even admitted by people like Al Gore, that the agreement would not have done if anything to curtail global warming, assuming that it even exists.
• Manhattan Institute senior fellow Oren Cass actually read the Paris accord and concluded it was so bad that it landed “somewhere between a farce and a fraud.” 
• He went to state that the to get the accord, “They stapled it together and held it up and said, ‘This is amazing!'”
• And while Obama and John Kerry along with their cohorts in the mainstream press claimed that India and China, major greenhouse gas producers were also sacrificing, that was a big lie: “They [China and India] either pledged to do exactly what they were already going to do anyway, or pledged even less. China, for instance said, ‘we pledge to reach peak emission by about 2030.’ Well, the United States government had already done a study to guess when Chinese emissions would peak, and their guess was about 2030.”
• Even more comical was Pakistan which promised that after it reached an undefined peak in the undefined future, it would then begin to reduce emissions and undefined amount.
• According to Case, the U.S. as represented by Obama, was the only country that was serious about reducing this country’s greenhouse gas emissions (by 26%), killing off U.S. economy while the rest of the world committed to nothing and intended to do nothing.

Solving a problem that does not exist, way to go Barack.

3) Up until about 20 years ago the Earth’s temperature had been rising slowly. However, as we have shown and a multitude of scientists have shown, in the past two decades there has been absolutely minimal if any, global warming. This flattening out of the trend showed that all of the gloom and doom forecasts of global warming advocates were incredibly wrong and thus held no value in supporting what was becoming a myth, global warming.

But indeed, there was warming up until twenty years ago or so. While global warming alarmists said this was a horrible, horrible trend, there are some other scientists who observed that that long ago global warming might have actually been a good thing:

• According to a recent article on the Constitution website, Robert Murphy, an economist with the Institute For Energy Research, says that higher temperatures have resulted in better harvests and fewer elderly deaths in the winter.
• Murphy claims that one of the major climate forecast models, the FUND model, and the model Obama used to establish a “social cost of carbon” showed that global warming actually had a net positive benefit, “showed global warming was a net positive through about 3 degrees Celsius of warming — a full degree higher than what the U.N. considers “dangerous.”
• Environmental economist Richard Tol’s work concluded that global warming, at least short term, would provide a net benefit to society and humanity: “Tol’s paper examined projections from 27 models and found net benefits from “initial warming,” then net costs to society after that. Tol said net costs appear around 1.5 degrees Celsius above pre-industrial levels — that could be 40 to 50 years away.”
• Tol also concluded that, “Plants grow faster and tolerate drought better if there is more carbon dioxide in the air.” 
• Satellite data shows that the world has greened up over the past few decades which many researchers attribute to extra carbon dioxide being in the air: “Scientists on the CO2 Coalition, a nonprofit, publicly argue that higher atmospheric CO2 concentrations are more of a benefit than a burden. One of their members, scientist Craig Idso, has catalogued a slew of studies pointing to the benefits of more atmospheric CO2.”

So in essence, we are living in the best possible scenario from a climate perspective. The warming that did exist but which stopped growing about twenty years ago boosting farm and foliage growth. But it not get so high that it has caused catastrophic climate conditions on the Earth which means that we do not need any kind of international agreement on climate change control and that Trump was right to pull us out of it for the many reasons listed above. Hopefully no, based on all of the science and the realities we now know, people like Al Gore will please just ...go….away.

Thus, let’s see the latest facts and science that prove you can be a global warming doubter and a believer in science, regardless of what Al Gore proclaims.

Since Trump pulled the U.S. out of the Paris Climate Agreement that was negotiated under Obama, many global warming/climate change advocates have been going crazy. To stem their lunacy, let’s list out 26 reasons why pulling out of Paris was a good idea, starting out with some random but actual facts and realities that we have previously covered under this recurring theme and then adding in some other thoughts and wisdom from other sources on why pulling out of the climate agreement was the right call:

1) For almost the past twenty years, the earth’s temperature has remained basically constant, blowing away the integrity of every global warming forecast that has ever been put forth which a) predicted the earth’s temperature would be much hotter today than it is and b) never predicted that rising temperatures would stabilize like they have over the past two decades.

2) Despite the warnings that global warming would result in more intense and frequent hurricanes, that global warming would result in more intense and frequent tornadoes, that global warming would result in more intense and frequent wildfires, that global warming would result in more intense and frequent droughts, none of those dire predictions have come true if one looks at actual data and history.

3) Despite the warming in 2007 or so by Al Gore that there was about a three to one chance that by 2015 the North Pole ice cap would be completely melted by 2015, the ice cap is still alive and cold.

4) The polar bear population is larger than it was back when Al Gore was born, killing another global warming fear that the polar bears would become extinct because of manmade global warming.

5) As we have discussed many times, 97% of scientists do NOT think that mankind is having an extensive and fatal impact on the Earth’s temperature since the study that generated that statistic was bogus, the analysis of that study’s data was bogus, and the conclusions drawn from that flawed study and flawed analysis are bogus.

6) Although 2016 was a very hot year, out of character with the long term leveling off of rising temperatures over the past twenty years or so, that 2016 heat wave was likely caused by an El Nino, a regularly occurring natural phenomenon caused the high temps last year, not mankind.

7) CERN the premier scientific community on the planet showed back in 2011 that the sun’s cosmic activity and its impact on cloud formation was the primary cause of warming temperatures, not mankind.

8) While Obama committed the U.S. to pay $1 billion into the Green Climate Fund (which was an illegal and unConstitutional payment that was not approved by Congress) as part of the Paris Climate Agreement, the other top industrial countries, China, Russia, and China are committed to paying nothing into the fund. If the climate crisis is so real, shouldn't everyone in the world contribute something to saving mankind and not just the American taxpayer?

9) And given that the U.S. has led the world in reducing its carbon footprint over the past decade or so, why are we paying so much for having done so much while others are paying nothing for having done nothing to affect the climate in a positive manner?

10) At last count, India and China, just by themselves, are scheduled to build 2,400 coal burning electricity plants in the next several years, certainly not a friendly trend relative to manmade global warming/climate change. Why were they not forced to curtail this atrocity while American coal miners and the domestic coal industry were being squashed by the likes of the Obama administration.

11) Al Gore is the biggest global warming/climate change advocate in the world. However, when he was recently interviewed, he actually stated that the Paris Climate Agreement would not actually “help the climate:”

So if the biggest advocate of all says the agreement will not actually help the planet, why have the agreement at all and have the American taxpayer fund something that will have no impact.

12) Given that Al Gore claims that the Paris Climate Agreement would have no effect, the Daily Signal pointed that why then should the U.S. sacrifice trillions of dollars in economic growth and hundreds of thousands of jobs for no purpose while other industrial nations and economic competitors, e,g. China and India, would not have to make the same sacrifices?

13) Part of the agreement is to have countries like the U.S. and its taxpayers transfer hundreds of billions of dollars to poorer countries to help with their green energy projects and infrastructure development. Who really thinks that this climate money given to despots and dictators will actually be used for the intended climate purposes? 

14) Economist Larry Kudlow, interviewed in a recent Moneynews article, correctly pointed out that the climate agreement was illegal since it was never ratified by the Senate, a basic Constitutional necessity.

15) Kudlow also pointed out that while the U.S. has continued to reduce its carbon footprint over the years, Germany, a signer and support of the agreement, has been and will continue to raise its carbon footprint as it transforms its energy mix from nuclear to coal.

16) The Independent Journal Review recently ran an article that accurately described the reality of the agreement: “The Paris Accord is nothing more than a vague, non-binding commitment by nations to do something about carbon emissions. That may be admirable, but it places no serious definition on what 'something' is. The European Union proudly pledged ambitious targets, but so far isn't meeting them. China bravely committed that it would continue to accelerate its carbon emissions for the next ten years or so.”

17) And the article also pointed out how the U.S. was doing in reducing its carbon footprint: “But there is good news! Paris Accord or not, the United States has been leading the world in cutting carbon emissions - and dramatically so:

But the second positive note in the numbers is that the U.S. continues to lead the world in reducing carbon dioxide emissions. In 2015, U.S. carbon dioxide emissions fell by 145 million tons, by far the largest decline of any country in the world. In comparison, Russia was in 2nd place with a decline of 64 million tons from 2014. On the other end of the spectrum was India, which led the world with a 112 million ton increase in carbon dioxide emissions from 2014.”

Again, the American taxpayer has to pay for doing a great job in reducing its carbon footprint? Who negotiated this deal anyway

18) A Democrat in the Senate, Joe Manchin, actually supported Trump’s decision to pull out of the Paris Climate Agreement, saying that: “I do not believe that the Paris Agreement ensures a balance between our environment and our economy.” Give that Democrats in the Senate usually reject anything that Trump does, it is significant that at least one Democrat had the guts to speak out on his true position and convictions.

19) According to an article on the Angry Patriot Movement website, China has no restrictions on its coal mining operations and there are no restrictions on India’s use of coal while American coal miners go unemployed.

20) Even though Trump has offered to reopen negotiations on the tenets and requirements of the agreement, most of Europe’s leaders say they will not renegotiate an illegal and unConstitutional treaty, indicating that it was never about the climate in the first place, it was all about U.S. taxpayer money leaving the U.S. and that fact is non-negotiable in the eyes of European leaders.

21) The Independent Sentinel had a very insightful observation about the reality around the agreement: “While 195 nations say they support the agreement, not all have signed and most, if not all will not abide by it if history is precedent. Most nations don’t have to do a thing for more than a decade.”

22) Ross McKitrick, writing for Cato on April 26, 2017, had the following insight why it was right to pull out of the Paris Climate Agreement: “The first thing to note is that the same computer models that say global warming is a problem also say that Paris will not fix it. If one were to graph the standard warming projections over the next century with and without Paris, the two lines overlap almost exactly. Whatever greenhouse gas (GHG) concentration we would have reached in the year 2100 without Paris, we will reach it shortly thereafter with. 

For all its costs, the Paris treaty will have almost no effect on global warming, and by depleting global income it will make it harder for countries to adapt and innovate in response to whatever changes occur. Thus not only does Paris not solve the problem, it arguably makes it worse.”

23) McKitrick also reminded us that the agreement to keep the Earth’s global average temperature to two degrees C above pre-industrial levels was a completely arbitrary, made up, fictional number with no scientific basis or justification.

24) But the Agreement, according to McKitrick, also has some non-climate requirements that have nothing to do with climate such as requiring countries “to address extraneous themes like gender equity, biodiversity, poverty eradication, migrants, disabled persons, a “just transition of the workforce,” “creation of decent work,”” Really, a climate treaty that tries to resolve perceived social injustices around the world, when something tries to do everything it usually succeeds in doing nothing, making this a useless agreement.

25) A recent article by Benjamin Zycher of the National Review pointed out how nations will game the system: “Since emissions are closely correlated with economic growth, a nation can “achieve” its promise by overestimating future economic growth slightly; when future growth proves lower than projected, the same will be true for emissions. Thus will the “commitments” be met without any actual change in underlying emissions behavior at all.”

In other words, nations can intentionally overestimate their future economic growth, upon which their emissions commitments are based, and then meet their commitments when the more realistic and actual economic growth occurs, doing nothing to reduce a carbon footprint.

26) Zycher also had some good insights on China’s favorable treatment in the agreement: “The Chinese commitment is particularly amusing. They promise that their greenhouse-gas emissions will peak “around 2030.” How high will that peak be? No one knows. What will their emissions be after the peak? No one knows. Accordingly, a “renegotiated” Paris will change the promises, but not the outcomes. Suppose the Chinese promise an actual emissions cut of, say, 20 percent by 2030. There you have it, 26 reasons, facts, and realities why Trump was correct to pull us out of the Paris Climate Agreement. It is an agreement that will not make any difference for the climate, it will cost the American taxpayer trillions of dollars in actual cash, lost economic growth, and lost jobs, and it will allow foreign economies to grow while our economy suffers. Can anyone come up with 26 reason why we should have stayed in the agreement, given the realities listed above? Let me know.
