September, 2022, Part 3, Political Class Insanity: The Mayor Parties While NYC Tanks, Hank Johnson with Another Stupid Statement, D.C. Mayor Whines About Illegal Immigrants, and Biden's Horrid Economic Score Card

 Let’s continue our discussion from the past few blogs as we review the insanity, ineptness, and stupidity that American politicians continue to display and their hardships they impose on all Americans:


1)New York City is  not in good shape:


  • Homelessness is growing everyday.

  • Crime of all types has been rising by double digits amounts for the past few years.

  • Riders take their lives in their hands when riding the crime infested city subway system.

  • According to Orkin, there are probably 2 million rats in the city as sanitation goes lacking.

  • High paying jobs, especially in the financial sector, have moved out of the city and state, with a lot of those jobs reforming in Miami, Florida, a city and state without a local and state income tax, allowing workers to keep more of their hard earned wages.


The city is in crisis so one would hope that the local politicians in office would be doing all they could to resolve these issues. But apparently these crises take a backseat to Mayor Eric Adams social activities:


  • The mayor recently attended the upscale Michael Kors fashion show.

  • He hosted his own fashion show at Gracie Mansion with celebrities and well known fashion designers.

  • He also recently partied at the high end Aman New York Club.


Dangerous streets, dangerous subways, dwindling tax base, and skyrocketing crime and the mayor is hanging out with the fashion world dignitaries and other famous folks, Just another day and another politician with horrid priorities.


2)But it  is not just a big  city mayor that  is failing at his job. Consider the following and recent national economic numbers that Biden has wrought on the country:


  • Total household wealth has declined a whopping $6.1 TRILLION since Biden became President.

  • This means that on average every American citizen, including kids, is about $20,000 poorer since Biden took office.

  • The NASDAQ stock market index is down 26% and the S&P 500 is down 18% since Biden took office.

  • In January, 2021, when Biden took office, the average mortgage rate was 2.86% and today the average mortgage is more than double, over 6%.

  • In January, 2021, when Biden took  office, the annual  inflation rate was 1.4% and today the inflation rate is about six times higher, 8.3%.


You have to be really bad at your job or actually trying to fail to turn in  results like this. Unfortunately it does not matter why to most Americans as they struggle to buy food, gas, and utilities as inflation ravages household budgets, budgets that are a lot poorer than they were about two years ago.


3)Democrats are constantly pushing the country towards using only electric vehicles. California’s nutcase political class recently passed legislation that will require that all new cars sold in the state beginning in 2035 be only electric cars, no gas powered cars. Never mind that these cars are beyond the financial means of the majority of state residents or that flooding the state with electric cars will constantly crash the state’ electric grid or that electric cars, and other vehicles such as electric buses, have been known to spontaneously catch fire, fires that are very difficult to get under control.


Higher, unaffordable prices, electricity blackouts, and fires endangering lives, and yet the state’s politicians think that this is a good idea. And tragically, transportation batteries exploding into hot fires and endangering lives is not restricted to cars:


  • Eight year old Stephanie Villa Torres was recently riding her electric scooter in Queens, New York City.

  • Unfortunately and tragically, the battery powering her scooter unexpectedly burst into flames, resulting in her death.

  • This was the third fatality attributed to an electric scooter battery fire in the past year.

  • Stephanie’s brother suffered burns and smoke inhalation trying to save her.

  • The NYC Fire Department determined that the cause of the fatal fire was the lithium battery powering the scooter.

  • The Fire Department said the latest fire was one of many, many scooter fires in  the city in the past two years, at least 60 incidents.

  • The situation has gotten so bad that some landlords are banning scooters from their buildings.


Our kids are dying from this technology and yet California politicians and others are pushing this technology down the throats of Americans, forcing us to buy and use dangerous and unproven and unsafe products. Insanity.


3)Congressman Hank Johnson once made quite possibly the most inane and stupid comment by any politician of all time a few years ago. During Congressional testimony regarding U.S. armed forces on the island of Guam, he stated he was worried that the island of Guam could actually tip over if too many armed forces resources were stationed there. 


Think about that: a sitting U.S.  Congressman stated in public that he was worried a Pacific island could tip over. You could not make this up. 


But somehow Johnson is still a sitting Congressman. And he recently put forth another stupid sentiment:


  • He showed utter disdain for parents who take an interest and show concern for their kids’ education by attending board of education meetings and sometimes opposing education programs that they disagree with.

  • He lashed out and  categorized these concerned parents as “MAGA Republicans…after January 6.”

  • He managed to  insult broad groups of Americans, Republicans and parents and somehow tying tens of millions of Americans to the D.C. riot on January 6, 2021.


Tough to respect any view of someone who actually thinks an island can tip over but he really crosses a despicable line by attacking concerned parents. He is part of the American political class who thinks the government is in charge of our  kids’ lives and anyone who questions that perceived authority needs to be branded and wiped out. Disgusting behavior and attitude.


4)Probably thousands of times in this blog we have shown American politicians to be liars, inept, and hypocrites. So it should come as no surprise that the current mayor of Washington D.C. fulfills these last two traits:


  • As you probably know, the governor of Texas has gotten so fed up with the Biden administration letting millions of illegal immigrants cross into this country that he has begun busing some of those illegal immigrants, with their permission, to so-called “sanctuary states and cities” that have boasted for years that illegal immigrants are always welcome to their states and cities.

  • The Texas governor has decided to take advantage of their self-proclaimed sanctuary claim and reduce the humanitarian burden on his small and overwhelmed towns on the southern border.

  • Now, one would expect these cities and states to welcome the illegal immigrants into their fold, having claimed how compassionate they would be if immigrants came to them.

  • Well, that claim and boast is valid as long as illegal immigrants do NOT arrive in their states and cities, as illustrated by the mayor of D.C., Muriel Bowser.

  • Once Bowser was confronted with the reality of Texas busing illegal immigrants to her sanctuary city, she flipped out at the challenge of handling them: "We’re not a border town.  We don’t have an infrastructure to handle this type and level of immigration to our city. We’re not Texas.”


She obviously fails to see the hypocrisy in her statement. Small border Texas towns are even less equipped to handle over 2 million illegal  immigrants that have flooded into this country over the past year. These towns have been overwhelmed with crime, sanitation issues, and deaths from Biden’s ill fated and stupid immigration policies.


If Bowser did not want these illegal immigrants coming into her sanctuary city maybe 1) she should not have bragged that her city was a sanctuary for illegal immigrants and 2) helped Texas and Arizona cope with the flood of illegal immigrants. By sitting there and whining about illegal immigrants coming into her city she shows herself to be just another inept, hypocritical petty politician.


That will  do it for today: a mayor who whines about illegal immigration, a mayor who wines and parties with celebrities as his city goes down the drain, a Georgia politician still making stupid statements, and Biden’s insanely horrible economic record after less than two years in office.

September, 2022, Part 2, Political Class Insanity: Fentanyl Crisis, Biden Admits He Lied, Chicago Is Still Lawless and More

 Another look at the continued insanity, ineptness, and stupidity from all levels of the American political class:


1)One of the very basic tenets and responsibilities of any government entity is to protect the lives and property of the citizens that they serve. Needless to say, with crime and violence rising rapidly across the country it is pretty obvious that the political class is failing to execute this responsibility.


And one of the worst situations in this country, that is leading to ever increasing drug overdose deaths, is the flood of fentanyl that is flowing over the southern border. More American aged 18-45 are now dying from fentanyl than from suicides or car accidents:


  • Senator Steve Faines of Montana recently demonstrated how bad the problem is regarding fentanyl.

  • Recently his staff conducted a virtual sting operation relative to how easy it was to get fentanyl.

  • They created a fictitious social media account, went live with the account and within five minutes a drug dealer found their account and offered to sell them fentanyl.

  • The Senator then sent a letter to the largest social media companies in the country: “Criminal drug networks are mass-producing fentanyl-laced pills and exploiting the ongoing crisis at our southern border caused by President Biden’s total inaction to smuggle thousands of pounds of fentanyl into our states… Social media platforms like yours provide a convenient venue for dealers to anonymously and discreetly peddle these counterfeit pills to a young audience. With 4 in 10 of these pills containing a lethal dose of fentanyl, more and more of these online transactions are ending in tragedy.”

  • Given that a tiny bit of fentanyl, the size of a couple of grains of salt, can be fatal, the easy availability of fentanyl via social media platforms and other means is not good news for Senate staffs or kids surfing the web.


While the cartels get rich, the American political class is failing at a basic function, protecting the lives and property of citizens.


2)We had previously discussed the reality and history of Biden’s racial comments, sexual predator actions, and constant streams of lies:

One of his more outrageous lies was that he was arrested while trying to see South African leader Nelson Mandela. Recently, he actually admitted that he lied: "I said once — I said I got arrested. I wasn't arrested. I got stopped, prevented from moving." 


This was his original  lie: "I had the great honor of being arrested with our U.N. ambassador on the streets of Soweto trying to get to see him [Mandela] on Robbens Island."  However, The Washington Post noted that the city of Soweto is nearly 900 miles from the Robben Island prison.


Makes you wonder if he 1) will ever admit that his other lies were indeed lies and 2) will he ever stop lying? Just another example of how out of integrity most politicians are.


3)One of the great failures of the current set of American politicians is their inability, in this land of plenty, to resolve the ever growing homelessness and hunger problems that millions of Americans are suffering from. Biden and other Washington politicians have no problem allocating billions of our tax dollars to feed, house, clothe, and educate illegal immigrants while at the same time millions of Americans continue to be homeless, hungry, and fighting drug addiction.


A perfect and sorry example of this failure is unfolding in New York City:


  • Although the city government runs homeless shelters, according to Sal Salamon, an advocate for the homeless, those shelters are failing the homeless population in the city: “The city shelters, in his opinion, ‘are worse than prison’ — that’s one reason why so many people prefer a hard life on the streets. Some loudmouth runs shelters from the neighborhood who knows the mayor and hires their friends with city money.”

  • According to state senator Brad Hoylman:  “Conditions at the shelters are deplorable.” 

  • The NYC government annually spends $3.5 BILLION while failing to resolve the homeless problem in the city.

  • $3.5 billion means that the city, on average, was spending $9.6 million a DAY and still the problem gets worse and worse.


You have to be really incompetent to spend close to $10 million a day and be a failure. But never underestimate the ineptness of American politicians.


4)One of the country’s most inept politician is Lori Lightfoot, the mayor of Chicago. She has allowed to crime to skyrocket during her term and apparently has no idea how to address the problem. 


As a result, citizens and businesses are moving out of the city to protect themselves, their employees and their property. This is reducing the tax revenue base which will reduce city services which will damage the quality of life int he city which will drive more people and businesses out of the city which will reduce tax revenue and the financial death spiral is in motion.


Companies such as Boeing, Caterpillar and a major, major financial company, Citadel Management, are just a few of the businesses that have moved their headquarters out of Chicago. And they may not be the last:


  • Chris Kempczinski, MacDonald’s CEO, recently told the Economic Club of Chicago, that “our city [Chicago] is in crisis” and crime is “seeping into every corner of our city.”

  • And the numbers support his views since there have already been 479 murders in the city and crime in the city is up 38% vs. last year.

  • Kempczinski went on: “Everywhere I go, I’m confronted by the same question these days — what’s going on in Chicago? While it may wound our civic pride to hear it, there is a general sense out there that our city is in crisis….We have violent crime that’s happening in our restaurants. … We’re seeing homelessness issues in our restaurants. We’re having drug overdoses that are happening in our restaurants. So we see in our restaurants, every single day, what’s happening in society at large."

  • He explained that his company and others are having trouble recruiting top employee talent since people do not want to commute to a job that has an ever increasing chance of making them a victim of violence.


Not a good situation for the people of Chicago. Violence all around them and a shrinking tax base. And yet the mayor thinks they are doing a good job: "We rank third among 50 U.S. cities for violence prevention programs, services, and policies. And this, to us, is a very big deal. We are grateful for the recognition."  And yet, almost 500 people have  already been murdered in her city this year, almost two a day on average.


That is enough political  class insanity for today: a dying and out of touch mayor, a city spending billions of dollars with no return on that investment, a liar finally admits he lies, and the fentanyl epidemic proving that the American political class is failing at a basic component of their job.

September, 2022, Part 1, Political Class Insanity: California Continues To Self Destruct, Biden Threatens An Air Strike on American Citizens, and Bad Priorities In New York

 It’s a new  month and it is time to check in on the American political class and see what nonsense, idiocy, and other shenanigans they are up to:


1)We often report on how many local and state politicians are failing in their basic responsibility to protect the lives and property of the voters they represent. Nowhere has this failure been so prevalent than in the state of California and the city of San Francisco. Higher and higher crime rates and the resultant lowering of the quality of life.


San Francisco has been especially good at forfeiting the rights, lives, and quality of life of its residents to support the homeless and criminal elements in the city. But finally, it seems that the local business owners are finally demanding that the city politicians do their jobs:


  • These business owners have threatened to stop paying city taxes until the local government removes the homeless folks, homeless encampments, and the resultant trash around their business establishments in addition to increasing the police presence in the area.

  • Specifically, according to Fox News: “The Castro Merchants Association, which represents 125 businesses, sent a letter to city officials earlier this month outlining three demands: 35 shelter beds for “mentally ill and substance-abusing individuals who have taken up residence in the Castro,” monthly metrics on services offered to the homeless in the Castro and a devised plan following a homeless person’s refusal for services.”

  • Despite spending billions of taxpayer dollars on the various issues that are ticking off local businesses, that money has done nothing to alleviate the problems, because they do not have a decent plan to fix the problems.

  • A local business person summarizes the frustration: “If the city can’t provide the basic services for them to become a successful business, then what are we paying for? Whatever they’re doing isn’t working. We’re just seeing constant vandalism, constant drug use in public, people passed out on the sidewalk, people having psychotic breakdowns, and it’s just not something a small-business owner should have to deal with.”

  • Another business person’s experience: “Every day we wake up and have to help people on the street. We have to clean up feces on the street. We have to clear our people from doorways, so we can open our businesses. It’s not fair.”


Another failure to protect the lives and property of the people they serve by the local political class, an all too often situation across the country at all levels of government.


2)As we have pointed out hundreds of times in this blog, the American political class often seem to be useless, clueless, idiotic, and unable to resolve any problem. This was recently illustrated again in, of course, California:


  • The governor of California recently boasted about a recent law that requires  that by 2035 it be illegal to sell a new gas powered car in the state in response to the myth of manmade climate change.

  • Only new electric cars will be legal to be sold in the state by 2035.

  • Today the state of California is unable to generate enough electricity to serve the state’s homes and businesses, primarily because of the stupidity that the state politicians insist that much of the electricity used in the state come from unreliable solar and wind sources.

  • In the past couple of years this insistence on renewable power has resulted in rolling blackouts and brownouts BEFORE electric cars are prevalent in the state.

  • In a case of really really bad timing, shortly after the governor bragged about dooming gas power car sales in the state, the state government urged current electric car owners to NOT charge their electric vehicles over the Labor Day weekend because there was a very good possibility that the state’s electric grid would not be able to provide enough electricity for the demand that was expected because of the holiday weekend and above average temperatures.

  • The California Independent System Operator, which manages the power grid for about 80% of the state, issued a warning that said “extreme heat” would "likely strain the grid with increased energy demands, especially over the holiday weekend."

  • In addition: "Set thermostats to 78 degrees or higher, avoid using large appliances and charging electric vehicles, and turn off unnecessary lights." 


The whole situation would be hilarious if not so serious. The state political class will shortly require that every Californian purchase a very, very expensive electric vehicle if they want a new car, a new car that will become increasingly more expensive to charge and use as electricity to feed the growing fleet of electric cars becomes even  more expensive, a growing fleet that will cause more and more blackouts and brownouts since there is no apparent plan to fortify and grow the current state electric grid, which will make life for every California more unpredictable, expensive and inconvenient.


You could not have come up with a dumber plan if you tried. The current grid cannot serve the voters in California. Start adding millions and millions of electric cars to that grid and nothing but disaster will happen. As expected from the American political class.


3)Biden came into office by promising that he would bring “unity” to the country. And  almost immediately that promise went out the window in so many ways that we will not review here. 


But in a despicable and disgusting comment he recently threw out in the world, attacking a Constitutional right, the Second Amendment, he threatened to use Air Force F-15 jet fighters against any American that dared to exercise or defend their Second Amendment rights as promised in the Constitution:


  • In a recent speech in Pennsylvania, Biden sarcastically warned “brave right-wing Americans” who support the Second Amendment.

  • Specifically he said that Second Amendment supporters would “need something a little more than a gun” to fight the United States, giving the example of the government using an F-15 fighter as a response to Constitution supporters.


Biden usually just espouses gibberish but this is the first time in the history of the United States that a President threatened to attack peaceful Americans with U.S.  military weapons who have a different opinion than the President, Americans who are simply exercising their Constitutional rights.  This is a really, really scary development in the history of our democracy, the threat of using military force inside the country to resolve a political issue.


4)The  country is facing a load of really, really nasty problems:


  • At any point in  time, there are about 500,000 to 600,000 homeless Americans living on the streets.

  • Millions of Americans face hunger and food problems on a daily basis.

  • Over 100,000 Americans die every year from drug overdoses and that number is rising steadily.

  • Inflation is at 40 year highs and forcing middle and lower class families to suffer serious financial hardships.

  • Crime and violence is rampaging across the country, especially in big, Democratic Party controlled cities.

  • People and businesses are leaving high tax, high crime states like New York to find better lives in lower taxed and lower crime rate states.


But rather than address and try to resolve these major, major issues and challenges, American politicians address trivial and stupid issues because they have no clue on how fix the major issues.


The New York state political class recently spend time and resources to come up with some really useless pieces of legislation, useless in comparison to the real issues listed above:


  • The first piece of legislation requires that the word “inmate” not be used anymore to describe convicted criminals that are in state prisons and  jails.

  • The new word that has to be used is “incarcerated person.”

  • According to a state government politician, Gustavo Rivera: “For too long, we as a society have thought of incarcerated individuals as less than people. The use of the word ‘inmate’ further dehumanizes and demoralizes them.”

  • No, we did not think  of them as less than people, they are convicted criminal inmates in prison, pretty straight forward…except for politicians.

  • But the politicians’ insanity in the state did not stop with useless word games.

  • In another piece of stupid legislation, New York state politicians passed a law that would ban the sale of whipped cream, that comes in pressurized cans, to individuals under the age of 21 years of age.

  • Apparently, these cans contain nitrous oxide, i.e. laughing gas, which some kids inhale to get high.

  • Specifically, the law states: “For purposes of this section, the term ‘whipped cream charger’ shall mean a steel cylinder or cartridge filled with nitrous oxide (N2O) that is used as a whipping agent in a whipped cream dispenser…No person, corporation, partnership, limited liability company, firm or any other business entity doing business within this state shall sell or offer for sale a whipped cream charger to any person under the age of twenty-one.”

  • Violations of the law could result in hundreds of dollars in fines.

  • According to state politician Joseph Addabo: “Nitrous oxide is a legal chemical for legitimate professional use, but when used improperly, it can be extremely lethal. Sadly, young people buy and inhale this gas to get ‘high’ because they mistakenly believe it is a ‘safe’ substance. This law will eliminate easy access to this dangerous substance for our youth."


I am sure that some kids in New York are getting high with laughing gas. I am sure that some “inmates” got their feelings hurt because of their status as convicted criminals and being called inmates. But seriously! New York state and New York City are suffering through a violent crime wave of violence and murders. Fentanyl pills are flooding over the border and killing more and more Americans and New Yorkers. People are fleeing the city and state for areas that are safer for their businesses and families and enjoy lower taxes and more freedom. New York City subways are becoming criminal cesspools. The homelessness problem is getting worse every day.


Horrible, horrible priorities by politicians that cannot resolve the big problems but focus their time and taxpayer resources on stupidity like changing word descriptors and banning laughing gas in the form of whipped cream containers. 


That will do  it for today’s insanity: bad, bad priorities in New York, Biden threatens an air strike on American citizens, and California is just a mess, courtesy of its clueless political class.

August, 2022, Part 5, Political Class Insanity: The CDC Cannot Count, San Francisco realizes Defunding the Police Was Stupid, and the New York Governor Is Stupid

Time to check in on the American political class and see what nonsense, idiocy, and other shenanigans they are up to:

1) Readers of this blog know that we have very little respect for most government functions and the politicians and bureaucrats that oversee their operation. The reason is very simple: these government functions almost always do their jobs ineffectively, inefficiency and waste a lot of time and taxpayer wealth in the process.

And apparently the Centers For Disease Control is no different:
  • Apparently the CDC updated its covid death statistics recently.
  • One would hope that the CDC knows how to count because a lot of their advice and statistics were responsible for shutting down the country and ruining lives, business, and well being of millions of Americans.
  • But their latest update indicated that they had included 72,277 deaths due to covid in their analyses but that those 72,000 plus deaths should not have been counted.
  • The reduction in deaths due to the disease impacted the covid death totals in 26 states and spanned all categories of Americans.
  • They attributed the massive over counting of covid deaths to a :coding logic error,” i.e. their computer program had not been properly vetted before put in use.
  • Children deaths due to covid were reduced significantly and now stands at just 1,341.
  • The CDC now says that while children accounted for 19% of all covid cases reported and tallied by the CDC, only a tiny one quarter of one percent of those afflicted by covid actually died from it.
  • Which raises the obvious and disturbing question: did we really have to shut down schools for months and months at a time, denying our kids an education when the childhood death toll from the disease was so so small?While most states had overstated their covid death totals, apparently New York state severely under counted its nursing home deaths from covid, by possibly as much as 50%.
  • Recall that then New York governor Andrew Cuomo ordered covid infected senior citizens to be shipped into nursing homes which resulted in a massive amount of nursing home deaths from those already infected interacting with healthy but vulnerable nursing home folks.
  • Thus, while the New York state government says 17,425 people died from covid in state nursing homes the real figure, caused by Cuomo’s fatal decision, was likely between 35,000 and 40,000.
General incompetence from the Federal government to state governments. The CDC did not count correctly because its computer systems were flawed, a situation that should have been discovered and fixed prior to any pandemic outbreak and the draconian restrictions that followed. That flaw probably unnecessarily impeded the education of our kids and unnecessarily disrupted the lives of millions of American families.

And in New York, ignorance or arrogance led to the under counting, or possibly cover up, due to Cuomo’s ignorant sheltering of healthy, vulnerable senior citizens with infected senior citizens. Failures all around.

2) Far too many times we have discussed the reality that the whole “defund the police” effort has been a huge and fatal failure. Fatal because the defunding and the disrespecting of police officers in many major cities has led to violent and rising crime waves that led to the unnecessary deaths of innocent residents of those cities.

We have always asserted that “defund the police'' was no more than a political slogan with no plan, no details, and no experience to support the slogan and ill fated movement. As a result, major cities across the country are dealing with soaring crime rates, rising homicide rates, early retirement for the beleaguered police force, and difficulty recruiting new police officers.

Finally, though, the same idiotic politicians that supported and acted on defunding their police forces, have now realzied that they made a huge mistake that has led to death and destruction in their cities. Consider one of the biggest perps in the defund the police movement:
  • A couple of years ago, San Francisco mayor, London Breed, took a whopping $120 million out of her city’s police budget and used the money to fund addiction treatment for black drug users in the city.
  • Specifically: “We will redirect $120 million from law enforcement to support these priorities over the next two years. Let me repeat that. This is $120 million.”
  • She actually sounded proud that she had gutted her own police force.
  • The year after she reduced the police force budget, the city experienced an annual 30% increase in homicides, a record.
  • A year later, the homicide rate went up another 17%.
  • In one city neighborhood, the Tenderloin district, violent crimes went up 121% from 2020 to 2021.
  • Finally, in December, 2021, the mayor submitted an emergency funding request to the city council to send more money to the police force budget.
  • She finally realized that her defunding the police effort was a huge mistake: “I’m proud this city believes in giving people second chances [but] we also need there to be accountability when someone does break the law.   • As a result of the city government’s defunding the police hysteria, there are now 300 vacancies for city police officers after a whopping 50 resigned just in this past month alone.

Just like with covid, ineffective and stupid politicians and bureaucrats have endangered the lives and property of millions of Americans, an endangerment that has resulted in unnecessary death and destruction, a typical outcome of most efforts led by the American political class.

3) We have often discussed the real possibility that a major U.S. city or even a state government in this country is quite possibly already in a financial death spiral that will bankrupt that city or state. Cities most likely on the verge of financial collapse include Chicago (our best bet), New York City, Los Angeles, San Francisco and a few others.

States that we think will most likely soon enter into a financial death spiral include New York, Illinois, California, and New Jersey. This death spiral will likely unfold in the following manner:
  • High taxes drive out wealth generating and tax paying families and businesses.
  • This reduces the state government’s tax revenue stream that requires that government services be cut and taxes raised on the remaining families and businesses.
  • These increased taxes in turn drive out more tax paying families and businesses which results in more government service cutbacks, degrading the quality of life in the state, and more tax revenue shortfalls which causes more taxation and the death spiral is in place.
Once the financial death spiral starts it is very hard to reverse the trend. We have often discussed the reality that businesses and residents are fleeing high tax states like California, New York, New Jersey, and Illinois already. These states have lost Congressional seats recently because of their decreasing population and with that decreasing population their tax revenue streams are under stress. For example, according to moving companies, for every household moving into New Jersey, two households are moving out of the state.

Thus, one would hope that politicians in these cities and states would be smart enough to look at the numbers and realities and take steps to stop the out migration of families and businesses and the resulting loss of tax revenue. One would hope that is the case but apparently that is not the case in New York:
  • Current New York governor, Kathy Hochul, is running for reelection in the state in the fall.
  • She recently got her party’s nod as their candidate for governor.
  • As the current governor, you would expect that she would know the deteriorating condition of her state government’s finances and would be trying to at least maintain the current tax base of families and businesses.
  • But apparently that is not important to her as she recently announced that anyone in the state that disagrees with her policies, probably mostly Republicans (Hochul is a Democrat) should “Just jump on a bus and head down to Florida where you belong, OK? You are not New Yorkers.”
  • That is certainly not leadership, that is certainly not representing all of the residents of New York and is certainly not a way to stop the out migration of your tax base.
  • In the last year alone, over 45,000 New York residents moved to Florida to get away from the high taxation levels in the state and possibly the highly arrogant attitude of politicians like Hochul.
  • And it is highly likely that the majority of those 45,000 movers were productive and quite likely paying high levels of taxes to the state government since they had the means and desire to relocate their families a thousand miles away.
  • The state is expected to be short over $14 billion in tax revenue over the next five years so telling over 5 million of your taxpayers to jump on a bus and get out of town seems pretty stupid.
  • But the numbers and realities are worse than 45,000 residents going to Florida.
  • Over the past decade, 1;5 million New York residents have packed up and moved out of state.
  • Public opinion polls consistently show that high taxes are the primary reason while New Yorkers are leaving, be they Republicans, Democrats, liberals, conservatives, etc.
And taxes will just go higher and higher if Hochul’s arrogance and hatred drive millions of more taxpayers out of state, constantly accelerating a financial death spiral that is probably already underway in the state. Just pure stupidity to tell millions of taxpayers to leave your state if you dare to have a difference of opinion with her.

A true leader would look to get viewpoints from a wide variety of sources in order to make the right decisions for the most people they serve. Hochul is obviously not a true leader, she is just another political hack who cannot stand to have her opinion challenged, a trait that may make New York the first state government to go bankrupt, thanks to her “my way or the highway” approach to government.

So we have a politician telling her taxpayers to go away, we have a city finally realizing that defunding the police is a stupid move, and the CDC cannot count.
