The Tyranny Of Nancy Pelosi

Tyranny definition - oppressive or unjustly severe government on the part of any ruler.

Just a short post today, I am afraid that Nancy Pelosi's latest words speak for themselves. I usually find Nancy Pelosi to be somewhat harmless and out of touch with the reality of America and Americans. She has said some wild things over the past few years:
  • Regarding unemployment insurance, she stated that this is one of the best ways to create jobs. Thus, in her world, the more people out of work and collecting unemployment insurance, the more jobs will be created.
  • In one of her rants, she cried out that over 500 million Americans were applying for unemployment insurance every week. Given that there are only about 300 million people living in the country today, including kids and babies, it is highly unlikely that her number is correct.
  • Rather than debate the Obama Care legislation with integrity, she insisted that the legislation needed to be passed in order for us to see what was in it. Kind of like a wrapped birthday present. However, given the atrocities we have reported in this blog about the idiocy of Obama Care, it is pretty obvious no one would have wanted to open that birthday present.
I could go on and on but you get the idea (for more detail and to hear her speak these words directly, search this blog for the post that involved the debate whether her quotes belonged on the Twilight Zone or Comedy Central which was written on December 31, 2010).

However, a recent quote from her is deadly serious. As background, you may recall that Boeing wants to expand its operations in South Carolina, adding many more jobs to what it has down there now. Their South Carolina plant would be a non-union plant and would, I assume, result in some union jobs being lost in the Boeing Washington state operations.

The National Labor Relations Board has stepped in and filed a complaint against Boeing and it's South Carolina plans. This is obviously nothing more than a blatant attempt by this administration to take care of its political friends, the  unions.

Boeing is not moving jobs to South Korea, South Yemen, or South Vietnam. They are keeping them within the United States. Given how badly this administration has screwed up the economic situation in this country, one would have thought they would be grateful that an American company is trying to stay profitable and solvent and grow itself, adding jobs to a depressing hiring environment in America today. But no, this administration is forcing Boeing to devote resources and distractions to this phony National Labor Relations Board complaint, resources and energy that could better be used to grow its business and work force.

Into this depressing and oppressive situation steps Nancy Pelosi. In a recent interview on CNBC, in response to a question about Boeing, she outright stated that the South Carolina plant should be shut down if it was not a union operation. ( http://rightwingnews.com/democrats/video-pelosi-boeing-plant-should-unionize-or-be-shut-down/ ) This is very scary stuff.

When did it become the responsibility of anyone in government to tell a company, who is not in violation of any law, how to run its operations? Is it any surprise that American businesses are scared to expand and grow, not knowing what business taxes and regulations the political class is about to dump on them via such atrocities as Obama Care taxes? Now we add to that fear when a high ranking political official states that a business should shut down if it is not a union shop? More distractions, more fear, more red tape. No wonder the unemployment rate is staying so high.

I doubt that Nancy Pelosi knows anything about the Boeing business. I doubt she knows anything about any airplane business. I doubt she knows anything about running any kind of business. yet, her arrogance, her tyranny of wanting to shut Boeing down is just unbelievable and very scary. It is truly oppressive and unjustly severe government, that is acting only on political interests, not the country's best interest. And she says these things like she means it and would probably work to make it happen if she could.

Not only is this bad and a distraction for Boeing, but according to Lachlan Markay, who wrote about this disgrace for the Heritage Foundation,  the workers at the Boeing plant in question already overwhelmingly voted not to join a union:

"Pelosi may or may not know that workers at the South Carolina plant in question voted resoundingly (199-68) to decertify their union two years ago. Government policies that would close the plant for being a non-union shop would simply be punishing those workers for exercising their right to determine union representation for themselves."

Thus, not only is she running roughshod over Boeing for not acting in her best political interests, she is also running roughshod over the current South Carolina workers' freedom of choice at Boeing who have already voted by about a three to one margin to keep the shop non-union.

We are truly descending into a dictatorship when a small set of selfish, arrogant and tyrannical politicians can dictate where a business sets up shop and dictates that American workers have to join a union whether they want to or not. Pelosi has overstepped from her previous comedic quotes to a truly dangerous quote and attitude that should frighten every American. Between forcing Americans to buy products they may not need (Obama Care), the freedom restricting Patriot Act, oppressive taxation, politically motivated hassling and raiding of good American companies that have committed no crimes (e.g. Gibson Guitar), to this new desire to dictate how and where businesses operate, we are very close to succumbing to a tyranny where a few dictate the lives of the many.

We have experienced the beginnings of what that Pelosi world might be like. A divided country of citizens against citizens, sky rocketing national debt, high unemployment rates, and a general feeling of despair and hopelessness according to recent opinion polls. Freedom is being sapped out of the nation by the Washington political class, tyranny by a thousand cuts to liberty. And Nancy Pelosi just made a deep and dangerous cut with her Boeing comments.

There has never been a better time to get started with Step 39 from "Love My Country, Loathe My Government," a step that would institute term limits for all Washington politicians. Tyranny takes a while to take hold, term limits would help ensure that tyranny never had the time.
