January, 2014 The Unfolding Disaster That Is Obama Care, Part 4: Heartbreaking Stories Of Frustrated Americans and One Conniving U.S. Senator

This is the fourth post this month that covers the ongoing and unfolding disaster that is Obama Care. This is a very difficult series to write each month, something we have had to do since last August, not because of the type of material available but because of the volume of material available. A dysfunctional website, identity theft issues, millions of Americans losing access to their current and preferred insurance policies and doctors, Obama Care policies that do not allow access to the necessary medicines or the finest hospitals across the country, Americans losing jobs, job opportunities and work hours because of the legislation, politicians in Washington illegally excluding themselves and their staffs from mandates, the list of disasters seems endless.

And that list is ever growing with just a handful of the latest fiascos and insults to Americans listed below:

1) The first post this month relative to Obama care related the top ten broken Obama Care promises made by the President. Apparently, in Colorado, according to local Colorado reports, there are lies and deceptions going on in that state as it relates to Obama Care and millions of Americans that lost their preferred insurance coverage as a result of Obama Care.

In the case of Colorado, the state department of insurance compiled their state numbers and came up with about 249,000 state citizens that had lost insurance because of the legislation. However, in order to minimize political damage to one of the U.S. Senators from Colorado, Mark Udall, the Senator’s office tried to get the numbers revised downward, according to Complete Colorado, an online news website for the state.

Their findings and uncovered emails showed the following shenanigans:

- Since the 249,000 figure was produced by the Colorado Division of Insurance, a state government entity, it is unusual and probably unethical for Udall’s Senate office, a Federal government entity, to lobby and pressure that state agency to revise their estimate or revise their definition of what qualified as a cancellation.

- Colorado Complete showed a copy of an official state government email on the matter. The email was from within the Colorado Division of Insurance (DOI), Director of External Affairs Jo Donlin who accurately stated to her colleagues:

Sen. Udall says our numbers were wrong. They are not wrong. Cancellation notices affected 249,199 people. They want to trash our numbers. I’m holding strong while we get more details. Many have already done early renewals. Regardless, they received cancellation notices.

- But the harassment and political maneuvering did not end there. The day following this first email describing the harassment, Donlin sent a formal explanation of the Division’s numbers to a number of members of the Udall staff. Within hours, however, she had to send another email to her own organization then within hours, sent a follow-up to her colleagues in DOI and Governor Hickenlooper’s office because of pressure form the Senator’s office:

“Following my e-mail, I received a very hostile phone call from Udall’s deputy chief of staff. [Insurance Commissioner] Marguerite [Salazar] is on the phone with [Udall's] chief of staff right now. Happy Friday!

Disgraceful and out of integrity behavior from a U.S. Senator and his staff. He is obviously putting is political future ahead of the reality of the suffering of almost a quarter million Colorado citizens who lost access to their insurance protection, the very citizens he is supposed to be helping and protecting. Rather than helping and protecting he his trying to deceive and lie and falsify records. Despicable.

2) The Independent Journal has been tracking the Twitter traffic that has been going on relative to experiences with Obama Care’s rules, regulations, horrific website, and other disasters. They published their findings/tweets from the first few days after Obama Care went live a few months ago in a January 3, 2013 article.

The following comments from Americans burned by Obama Care give you a sense of frustration, anger, and fear that the legislation has caused:

No, you still can’t keep your doctor:

My old doctor's office is now telling my ACA insurance is not good enough. Now I have to find a new doctor that accepts Obamacare.

It’s even hurting people who aren’t even on Obamacare:

— GaYoncĂ©, MD (@Gay__MD) January 1, 2014

Wasn’t Obamacare supposed to shore up preventative care to save costs?

Preventative care? My doctor says they can no longer bill insurance for preventative labs, courtesy of #Obamacare. Rationed care, anyone?
— SpatulaMinus (@SpatulaMinus) January 1, 2014

A gal I know has a sleeping pill prescription. The pill was $5.51 for 30. Now her COPAY is $96.00 because Obamacare reclassified the med.

— Enidza Torres (@Uh_NID_Zuh) January 3, 2014

I know that this is not a statistically valid sample. But I do know that almost five million Americans have already lost insurance coverage because of Obama Care, that is a statistically valid number. And there can be no doubt that the vast majority of them are experiencing similar hassles and fear.

Rather than helping people, politicians like Udall in Colorado are too busy and preoccupied trying to cover up the Obama Care disasters and results to protect their own political careers. As this partial list shows, this is the type of hassles that millions of Americans are now facing all because of the Washington political class.

3) Another disaster from the whole Obama Care mess is the covering up and minimizing of that mess that many components of the mainstream press in this country have done. Rather than report the bad news about Obama Care and the suffering of millions of Americans, they often have only emphasized the insignificant good news tidbits, e.g. “the Obama Care website is not as bad as it used to be.” It is a shame from freedom of the press is not used to report reality but to protect political interests.

That is why we sometimes have to actually go to foreign press sources to find out what is going on in our own country. Such is the case relative to an early Janaury, 2013 article from Britain;s Daily Mail. That article also reported on some real life tragedies going on as a result of Obama Care, specifically hwo two Am,erican citizens were turned away from a Virginia hospital because they could not prove they actually had valid health insurance from Obama Care.

Details of the story include the following:
  • ‘They had no idea if my insurance was active or not!’ a coughing Maria Galvez told MailOnline outside the Inova Healthplex facility in the town of Springfield.
  • Given that neither she nor the hospital could confirm she actually had valid Obama Care insurance, they told her that she would have to pay for a chest x-ray upfront in order to get help, a cost that would exceed $500.
  • She decided she could not afford the upfront expense and left the hospital, still sick, without getting a needed chest x-ray.
  • ‘The people in there told me that since I didn’t have an insurance card, I would be billed for the whole cost of the x-ray,’ Galvez said, her young daughter in tow. ‘It’s not fair – you know, I signed up last week like I was supposed to.’
  • Apparently what she did not know is that even if she did have Obama Care insurance, the policy she thought she had signed up for, Blue Cross Plus Bronze, has a large, $5,000 annual deductible so she would have had to pay the $500 anyway. So much for Obama Care being “affordable.”
  • A similar situation frustrated Mary, an African-American, small businesswoman who asked that the reporter not use her last name in the story.
  • She was leaving the Inova Alexandria Hospital in Alexandria, Virginia with two family members: ‘I had chest pains last night, and they took me in the emergency room. They told me they were going to admit me, but when I told them I hadn’t heard from my insurance company since I signed up, they changed their tune.’
  • She said that a nurse advised her that her bill would go up by at least $3,000 if she were admitted for one day, an upfront cost she would have to pay given that they couldn’t verify her Obama Care insurance status.
  • Mary asked a couple of questions in the article that millions of Americans are asking themselves: ‘Why is this so complicated? I had my own private insurance last year, but they cancelled me in November. I’m not sure which end is up.’
  • The article goes on to quote from a Washington post article where they state that the Federal government, via Kathleen Sebelius, estimate that up to one third of the people that think they have signed up for Obama Care may not actually have insurance coverage. This equates out to about 700,000 Americans who are walking around thinking that they have health insurance coverage but really do not.
This legislation, as we have seen above, is making health ever more dangerous in this country rather than helping and protecting the well being of Americans. How far we have fallen when Americans’ health and welfare come out a distance second to political games, trickery, lies, and ineptness.
