More Proof That California Will Be The First State To Go Bankrupt

We have had a running  discussion for a number of years under the theory that  certain city and  state governments across the country are on a course to relatively quickly go  bankrupt. The states we think have the  best chance of winning the race to bankruptcy court include California, New York, New Jersey and Illinois. The cities with the best chance include New York  City, Los Angeles, Chicago,  and San  Francisco.

The bankruptcy trajectory is unfolding as follows:

  • State and city politicians continue to implement and manage government programs that are inefficient, ineffective, wasteful, or criminally  infested.

  • Rather than  become more  efficient, the politicians raise taxes which drives residents and businesses to leave and  relocate, reducing the tax base.

  • Faced with a reduced tax base,  rather than cut back  spending to match the reduced tax revenue, politicians typically raise taxes even more, which drives more residents and businesses out of  the state.

  • Eventually police fire,  education, and other city and  state services suffer from lack of funding which  reduces the quality of life and drives more folks out of the  city or state.

  • Eventually, taxes cannot be raised enough on a shrinking tax base to offset the government spending and debt obligations and  the financial viability of the government  entity crashes in bankruptcy proceedings.

Over the years, different states and  cities have jockeyed for the  lead in the race  to bankruptcy. They all share the death spiral scenario laid out above. City-wise, we now believe that New York City will be the next major city to go bankrupt, given the idiotic and naive governing theories of the recently elected communist mayor, Zohran  Mamdani. His communist-like ideas about governing have failed around the  world and historically but that is not stopping him.

However, in a recent post we made the very strong argument that California will be the first state government to go bankrupt. That argument and thesis can be found at the following link:

https://loathemygovernment.blogspot.com/2026/01/will-proposed-california-wealth-tax.html

Since we put up this post, we have  found some additional statistics and realities that reinforce our prediction that California will  indeed be the first state to go bankrupt:

  • For decades, California and its Silicon Valley was the tech center of the nation and world, creating wonderful products and services that served humanity very well.

  • The companies that created these services and products are now household names: Facebook, Google, Tesla, Twitter/X, Apple, etc.

  • This resulted in  incredibly rich companies  and individuals, wealth creation that resulted in fat tax streams for the state government.

  • However,  recent analysis has shown that the share of the nation’s technology workforce is dwindling relatively rapidly in California as companies and  individuals find better taxation and quality of life locations outside of the Valley and state.

  • According to recent  work done by the CompTIA State of the Tech Workforce, California’s share of the country’s technology workforce has decreased from 19% in  2019 to only 16% six years later, a 16% increase.

  • Not only has the  percentage of tech workers gone down substantially in the state, but the size of the national tech workforce has also decreased in the timeframe, giving California a smaller portion of a smaller workforce market.

  • According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, the technology workforce peaked at around 6 million  workers in 2023 but has shed over 90,000 jobs since then.

  • From  the  middle  of 2022 to the middle  of 2025, California lost 71,000 tech jobs.

  • The CompTIA analysis  predicts that by the decade’s end,  the California share of tech jobs will decline even  further to, 14% of the nation’s share.

  • San  Francisco has been especially hard hit by the cratering of tech positions with downtown office vacancies in the  city currently sitting at 35%.

With AI possibly shrinking down the other wealthy industry in the state,  the Hollywood industry, this declining status of the tech  industry fits right into the flight of jobs and wealth from the state. With high taxes, high crime rates, high regulatory interference in business, high  homeless rates, etc,. the tech  industry and its wealthy and high taxpaying  employees are finding better places to  live and work and create new wealth.

Since  the wealthiest 1% of California residents pay about 40% of  the entire state income tax stream, even small migrations and shrinkage of the tech  workforce and wealthy state residents out of the state will have  a major  negative impact on the state income tax stream and finances. This reinforces our assertion that California still leads the race to bankruptcy court.

And with wealthy residents and businesses leaving the state, housing values fall which reduces property tax dreams, retail sales fall which reduces sales tax streams, and the financial  death  spiral takes hold.

January, 2021, Part, 3, Political Class Insanity: Government Sanctioned Racism From Biden, Big Tech Tries to Squash Freedom Of Speech, Big Tech Vets Infest Biden Administration And Karma Punches Ted Wheeler

It is the beginning of another month which means it is time again to review the latest political class insanity from the American political class. Each month it takes us multiple posts to cover the wasteful spending, incompetent government organizations and employees, government programs that usually make a problem worse than resolving it, inane and idiotic politician comments, etc.

To review past posts on this insanity and idiocy, just click on the first few posts in each month listed to the right of this page. After reviewing just a handful of these insanity posts we think you will agree that we are currently being served by the worst set of American politicians ever to hold office in our entire history.

1) Ted Wheeler is the mayor of Portland, Oregon. For about a year or so he has coddled, kowtowed, ignored, and tolerated Antifa as its members ran rampant through his city night after night of law breaking behavior. His passivity has endangered peaceful citizens’ lives, businesses, and the future of the city as residents and businesses leave to get away from the violence and criminality. He was even forced to flee from his own apartment when these people showed up at his home.

Well, as I have always believed, there is always karma in life as a recent article on the Conservative and Free website pointed out karma belief relative to the good mayor:
  • Apparently the mayor was recently eating at an outside restaurant one evening.
  • For no reason, an Antifa thug came upon him and decided to punch the mayor for no reason, landing a punch on his shoulder.
  • On top of the attack, one of the accompanying Antifa members told the mayor, “You are going to be made to feel like the scum you are. F*ck you, f*ck you, shame on you."
  • According to the article: “The Mayor’s office stated that On Wednesday evening, during a non-work-related dinner with a friend in a designated outdoor area, Mayor Wheeler was confronted by a group of people. The Mayor had been seated for about five minutes when a group of people began shouting obscenities at the Mayor from the outside of the tent.”
  • The mob eventually forced themselves into the restaurant where the mayor was punched.
Another failure, as we have discussed so many times, where the local political class cannot carry out a basic, basic function of government: protecting the safety of its citizens and businesses. Wheeler has failed so dramatically that he cannot even protect himself from violence.

2) One of the most important human rights in society and country is freedom of speech. Everyone should be able to talk about their views as long as it does not advocate violence in any form on another human being. In this country, we have this right protected by the First Amendment.

Unfortunately, that right is under attack by so-called Big Tech, Facebook, Twitter, Google, etc. The Bill Of Rights protects our freedom of speech from government and political class violating it. But Big Tech has gotten so big that they are now on the verge of stifling free speech, adult conversation of issues, and acting like the great tyrants of the past, Hitler. Stalin, etc.

Over the past couple of weeks, these companies have taken serious, distressing and massive actions to shut down and censor anyone who does not have the same liberal/Democratic opinions of them, for example:
  • Ron Paul is a former Congressman who was likely the most Libertarian member of Congress ever, a strong advocate for the rights laid out in the Constitution and Bill of Rights.
  • He is an older gentleman so from a physical perspective he is a threat to no one.
  • For no apparent reason, his Twitter account was temporarily suspended for “repeatedly going against our community standards.”
  • According to Mr. Paul: "With no explanation other than "repeatedly going against our community standards" @Facebook has blocked me from managing my page. Never have we received notice of violating community standards in the past, and nowhere is the offending post identified. The only thing we posted to Facebook today was my weekly "Texas Straight Talk" column, which I have published every week since 1976."
  • The article that probably got him censored by Facebook was a discussion of tech company censorship.
So there you have it, Stalin and Hitler style. Dare to criticize the big tech companies and they will stifle your right to have an opinion. And no liberal and Democratic politician has stepped up to object to this suppression of free thought and opinion.

3) But maybe this tech censorship initiative should not surprise us since according to a January 10, 2021 article by Chuck Ross of the Washington Times:
  • At least 14 current or former high ranking employees from five different major technology companies will be serving in Biden’s Presidential administration.
  • Maybe not coincidentally, it is these five companies, Apple, Google, Amazon, Twitter and Facebook that have launched their own censorship efforts to quiet and squash the opinions and free speech rights of non-liberal citizens.
  • The top government lobbyist for Apple, Cynthia Hogan, was a chief advisor to the Biden transition team.
  • A former Twitter executive will be Biden’s chief spokesperson for the National Security Council.
  • Jessica Hertz, who was a director for Facebook’s regulatory team, will serve as White House staff director.
  • Emily Horne, former head of global policy communications for Twitter, will be the director of press and spokesperson for the National Security Council.
  • David Recordon, a former developer for Facebook, will be the director of technology for the Office of Management and Administration. Austin Lin, a former program manager at Facebook, will serve as Recordon’s deputy.
  • Jeff Zients, a former Facebook board member who served in the Obama administration, is Biden’s Covid-19 czar.
I could go on and on about others but you get the idea. The very type of people that either worked for or probably support the censorship efforts from these tech companies will be serving you and I in the Biden administration. Which means it is highly unlikely that Biden will properly respond to the growing censorship of American citizens by these tech companies who, it is my opinion, are not doing it out of a higher sense of consciousness but to preserve what is obviously their lucrative business monopolies.

When a competitor arises that immediately has a negative impact on their money printing machines, such as Parler, an alternative to Twitter and Facebook, these companies act in unison to shut down this potential monopoly upsetting company. These companies are willing to stifle free speech in this country, something that is vitally needed to address the many issues we are all facing, in order to keep themselves rich and powerful beyond any regular American’s wildest dreams.

4) One thing that irritates me to no end is the insistence by Democrats and liberals in this country that anyone or any action that they disagree with has racism at its core. This insistence that just about anything that rubs them the wrong way is racist minimizes the real racism in this country: if everything is racist then nothing is racist.

And at the same time, the refuse to recognize the many times when they are actually racist themselves, as Joe Biden recently illustrated:
  • According to a Daily Wire article by Ryan Saavedra on January 11, 2021, Joe Biden wants to get economic relief to American small businesses.
  • Sounds like a good idea on the surface, small businesses in this country have certainly suffered as a result of the pandemic.
  • But then you find out that his program will be intentionally racist in nature, since according to Biden: “Our focus will be on small businesses on Main Street that aren’t wealthy and well-connected, that are facing real economic hardships through not fault of their own. Our priority will be Black, Latino, Asian, and Native American owned small businesses, women-owned businesses, and finally having equal access to resources needed to reopen and rebuild.”
  • So, small business owners who happen to be white males need not apply.
  • So, Biden is not even in office yet and his racist past, as we have pointed out previously, is already underway.
  • You cannot single out a group of Americans because of their skin color, exclude them from a government program, and claim you are not a racist.
It is my understanding such behavior is against Federal law which means someone is probably and correctly going to sue him out of the gate for this racism against white business owners.

The good news is that, according to the article, his racism was met with heavy criticism. The bad news is that very few liberals criticized his racism even though they usually have a long history of complaining but faux racism but now ignore this real racism:
  • “White need not apply. Unbelievable. Would you want to also just round them up while you are at it.” - Obianuju Ekeocha
  • “Asians have the highest median household incomes of any racial group in America, and it’s not even close — $87K vs $65K for whites, the next highest group. Why should they get preferential treatment? Identity politics is garbage.” - Alliance Imitative Executive Director Noah Pollak
  • “Can we please just help Americans without further dividing us into competing subgroups?” - Ricochet Editor-in-chief Jon Gabriel
  • “This is actual institutional racism.” - Ricochet Editor-in-chief Jon Gabriel
  • “Discrimination based on race and sex of white men remains unlawful under federal law.” - Attorney Marina Medvin
  • “Are you implying minorities and women unlikely to own large businesses? That’s racist.” - Political commentator Wu Lebao
  • “Asians are doing economically far better than whites. One of the many flaws of the ideological ‘POC’ / ‘white’ model.” - Writer Rav Arora
  • “If you’re wondering what systemic racial discrimination actually looks like, the Harris Administration is about to give you a tutorial.” - Daily Wire columnist Matt Walsh
But nowhere in the reaction were the typical race baiters like Pelosi, liberal Hollywood types, liberal media people, etc. I guess racism in their minds only exists when it serves their political purposes.

There you have it, your next batch of political class insanity: the racism of Joe Biden, the tyranny, monopoly, and censorship from big tech, big tech’s infiltration of the political class, and a liberal mayor suffers the same pain that he has inflicted on his constituents.

January, 2018, Part 1, I Am A Global Warming Doubter and a Believer In Science: Warming Causes Cold And Scientific American Abandons Science Principles

Every month we have enough material to return to a continuing theme in this blog, namely that “I am a global warming doubter AND a believer in science.” This became of interest because of people like Al Gore who fanatically and verbosely claimed that you had to be an idiot to not believe in manmade global warming. It has been my life belief that anyone that is that loud and that obnoxious is hiding something, that rather than argue facts and reality it is better to beat down and insult anyone who disagrees.

As we have dove into the whole issue of manmade global warming, or its new rebranded title of climate change, we found that Al Gore and people like him were guilty of a number of things:

  • Ignoring science and realities that did not support their opinions and positions.
  • Rather than have an adult conversation about climate, these types of advocates like Gore sank to the level of insulting those who dared look at ALL science by calling them a variety of names including racists, homophobes, terrorists, flat earth believers, and other slanderous names.
  • Continuing to insist that politicians step up their intrusions into our lives with higher taxes, more regulations, and more control of our freedoms and standards of living based on a shaky theory at best.
To see the past posts and the multitude of evidence that we have compiled that showed it is perfectly okay to be a global warming doubter and a believer in science, enter the phrase "global warming doubter” in the search box above or go through the monthly historical posts listed on the right side of this page.

Thus, let’s see the latest facts and science that prove you can be a global warming doubter and a believer in science, regardless of what Al Gore proclaims.

1) Let’s put two facts on the table to start off today’s discussion. First, about a week ago the United States was in a semi-prolonged deep freeze due to a blast of Arctic air that was described as a “bomb cyclone.” There were absurdly low temperatures across much of the united States. Second, whenever something contrary to the global warming advocates occur you can be sure that the premier global warming advocate, Al Gore, is going to show up.

Which was the case after the frigid temperatures finally let up a little bit. Recall that Al Gore once said that there was an excellent chance that the entire North Pole ice cap could melt within five years. He made that statement in 2009. Obviously, he could not have been more wrong in that forecast, much like every single global warming forecaster and prediction has been so wrong since the beginning of time.

In order to protect his reputation, Gore tried to spin, really contort, the frigid temperatures to make himself not look foolish, citing global warming advocate scientist Michael Mann’s view of the bomb cyclone: “It’s bitter cold in parts of the US, but climate scientist Dr. Michael Mann explains that’s exactly what we should expect from the climate crisis.”

Wow! Global warming causes really cold weather, who knew?! Well, in reality, no one knew. Historically, no global warming scientist ever predicted that man made global warming would cause historically cold weather, not even close. Gore predicted the ice caps could be gone by now. Others predicted that coastal cities would be underwater because of global warming. You cannot claim you have credibility in any endeavor when your predictions of the future are all wrong by wide margins.

And as we have always accused Gore and those like him of doing, he cites one source that happens to agree with his spin and contortions while ignoring others in the scientific community might just have a more reasoned, unbiased, and scientific approach to the world, i.e. they use real data:

  • Ed Feulner, writing for the Heritage Foundation website on January 10, 2018, actually went to the effort of asking other scientists not named Michael Mann what was going on weather wise.
  • Mr. Feulner pointed out the reality that while Gore had predicted that there was an excellent chance the North Pole ice cap would have melted by four years ago, in reality, according to the National Snow and Ice Data Center, North Pole “ice growth during November 2017 averaged 30,900 square miles a day.”
  • Consider what Kevin Trenberth a scientist at the National Center For Atmospheric Research had to say about this topic: “Winter storms are a manifestation of winter, not climate change. The Arctic is greatly affected by climate change, and it has a feedback effect—but not in winter.”
  • Consider what University of Washington scientist Cliff Mass had to say: “The frequency of cold waves have decreased during the past 50 years, not increased. That alone shows that such claims are baseless.”
  • Mass went on to point out that people like Gore and Mann are not only always wrong in their climate and global warming predictions but they cause much more harm to basic scientific research and principles: “It is very disappointing that members of my profession are making such obviously bogus claims. It hurts the science, it hurts the credibility of climate scientists, and weakens our ability to be taken seriously by society.”
  • And let’s not think that the term “bomb cyclone” is a new term that was invented to describe this frigid weather in the context of climate change. In fact, it was coined over 40 years by Fred Sanders of MIT who studied such storms long before Al Gore and and bunch of others became global warming advocates.
  • And according to the article, this latest bomb cyclone is not a one time deal due to global warming/climate change since there are 50 to 60 so-called bomb cyclones every year but most of them occur too far out in the oceans to have any impact on us and they have been going on for a very long time.
Maybe mankind’s actions are screwing up the climate. Maybe Al Gore is right. But when you are wrong, as he and other of his ilk have been so many times, at some point you have to step up and say maybe we need to look at ALL of the science, ALL of the research, ALL of the data and not continue to do what the Al Gores of the world do, looking at only the science, research, and data that support what has been in increasingly shaky premise from the start.

2) One could expect Al Gore not to be too good at science, always ignoring scientific research that does not agree with his viewpoints even though his climate viewpoints and forecasts have ALWAYS been proven wrong. Gore is a politician, he is not a scientist by training so one could make the case he does not understand the scientific method of research and analysis.

But a publication like Scientific American should not fall into that same category as a non-scientist like Al Gore. One would hope that Scientific American would respect the scientific method of research and not fall victim to global warming/climate change hysteria.

Which is not the case since in light of the freedom protests and riots in Iran, Scientific American actually tweeted out that. “Climate change may have helped spark Iran’s protests.” Say what? I thought that high unemployment, high inflation, a repressive government regime, a corrupt ruling class, lack of basic human freedoms, suppression of women’s rights, etc. caused the riots in Iran. How wrong was I [sarcasm]?

Seriously, are you kidding me? Climate change causes people to riot? I would have expected a more reasoned, logical, and scientifically proven connection to be done by an institution like Scientific American. But no, like other wild global warming advocates, anything can be connected to global warming no matter how ridiculous the connection might be.

Fortunately, Twitter responses to this idiocy was swift, reasoned and often hilarious:

  • Terry Kern: “LMAO, are you really going there?
  • Dick Warlock: “Unabashedly idiotic. This is what our credible scientific reads have come to. Take your cult and get ratioed with it.”
  • Casaubon: “This is absolutely ridiculous.”
  • Jeremy Martin: “This is not a good example of correlation, much less causation. This argument simply isn't good.”
  • Caleb Howe: “lol.”
  • Reluctant Exister: “Factcheck: lol”
  • brent mohrman: “lol. I stubbed my toe yesterday on my dresser. Pretty sure that was the fault of climate change too, eh?”
  • Moinsd: “AHAHAHHA! That's good, you guys are competing with The Onion, right? :-D That's really good.”
  • neontaster: “Sighhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh.”
  • John Doiron: “Yeah, I'm guessing it's more government corruption, oppression, and a bad economy, but you go with that.”
  • And finally, Mujahed Kobbe (edited for taste): “Get the f*&# out of here with this sh%$.”
Pretty sad that even a once respected science journal would subjugate itself to the pseudo science of correlating every occurrence in the world to the global warming/climate change mythology. Never in the history of mankind has science been so perverted and so biased in investigating truth, where contrary opinions and research is ignored to fulfill personal and political aims. More to follow in the coming days, proving once again that is perfectly sane to be a global warming doubter and a believer in science.

The Obama Era, Part 6 - Memories From The Worst Presidency Ever?

Late last year I thought it might be a good time to review everything that I remember about the Obama administration. He has been in office for seven years, seven long years that in my opinion have been horrific in so many ways. This was someone who entered office with approval ratings that were above 70% and who represented the so-called“hope and change” that many Americans were seeking.

This theme unexpectedly took four days to cover, that is how many failures, lies, threats, and narcissism of this President. The first post can be accessed at:

http://loathemygovernment.blogspot.com/2015/12/the-obama-era-part-1-memories-from.html

Seven years later hope has become very scarce and change has almost always been for the worst. Now, before someone says that I am just a sour grapes Republican, conservative, or neo-con, understand that I have never voted for a Republican for President in my life (I started voting in the 1970s). Up until 2010, I had never voted for Republican for national office in my life. I fully support gay rights and respect a woman’s legal right to an abortion. Thus, none of what you are about to read over the next few days comes from a Republican sour grapes perspective.

But unless you have had completely had your head in the sand or elsewhere, this has been the worst Presidency that I have experienced in my lifetime. From horrid legislation (e.g. Obama Care) to a failed foreign policy (e.g. Syria) to daily lawlessness on the part of this administration (e.g. use of unsecured email accounts by high ranking administration members), the ineptness and ineffectiveness of this administration is mind boggling.

So what else will I remember from this Presidency in addition to the horror stories and disasters we already talked about, starting with the link listed above:

- I will remember this President continually telling me that Islam is totally good even though 450 out of 452 suicide bomber incidents worldwide last year were executed by Muslim suicide bombers.

- I will remember this President continually telling me that Islam is totally good even though Islamic radicals were responsible for the USS Cole bombing, the U.S. embassy bombings in Africa, the first World Trade Center attack, the second World Trade Center attack, the nightclub attacks in Bali, the recent attack in Paris, the mass shooting in San Bernardino, California, the armed services recruitment center attacks in Tennessee, the Fort Hood terror attack, the enslavement of women and children across the Middle East, the kidnapping and enslavement of children in Nigeria, the killing of homosexuals across the Middle East for simply being gay, etc.

- I will remember this President attending an Islamic mosque in Baltimore but attending any Christian churches or Jewish synagogues.

- I will remember how this President continues to insist that Muslims have been woven into the fabric of this country from the beginning but never provides any examples of great/epic Muslim Americans, probably because there are not any.

- I will remember this President issuing a Tweet on the White House Twitter account that had a picture of him throwing a football on Super Bowl Sunday as if he has any football ability.

- I will remember an Israeli public opinion poll that showed how very little respect the Israeli citizens have for this Presidency vs. previous Presidencies.

- I will remember how this Presidency illegally and secretly purged DHS ISIS files to hide the truth of how dangerous the ISIS movement is to Americans’ safety.

- I will remember how despite the reality that this Presidency will double the national debt in just eight years, by incurring a whopping $10 TRILLION in debt, and how the Federal government under this President continues to lose at least $600 billion a year from fraud and incompetence, this President still wants to raise taxes in 2017 and NOT cut spending.

- I will remember how this President became the first President ever to be sued in order to find out how much the American taxpayer actually has paid for his lavish and frequent vacations.

- I will remember how this Presidency was so lame in managing and enforcing our immigration laws that 500,000 foreign visitors overstayed their visa requirements in 2015.

- I will remember how this President illegally and unilaterally exempted the White House Office of Administration from Freedom Of Information Act requests.

I will remember a lot about this Presidency, almost all of it very forgettable, regrettable and often disgusting. And unfortunately, I will still have more bad memories to review tomorrow.
