October, 2021, Part 7, Political Class Insanity: Seattle's Police Force Might Get a Lot Smaller, Defund the Police Is A Bust, and California Politicians Still Have Horrible Priorities.

Before we get to today’s insanity, please consider the following proposition: as many of you know, the withdrawal from Afghanistan has been a historic and fatal endeavor. But the failure did not start just in the past few weeks, it has been a twenty year disaster. It has cost American taxpayers about a trillion dollars, has left thousands of our brave armed forces folks dead, maimed, or wounded and has resulted in an unknown but substantial number of civilian deaths.

Afghanistan has been a collective failure of multiple Presidential administrations and multiple sessions of Congress. Thus, please consider signing the petition below that calls for the immediate resignation of every member of Congress that has at least twenty years of service and the resignation of President Biden, Vice President Harris, and critical, and failed, members of the Biden Administration. They do not deserve to serve any longer given their miserable twenty year track record of death, destruction and waste in Afghanistan.

Also, if you are passionate about this topic and effort, feel free to pass the link along to others who might also feel the same way, i.e. incompetence should not be rewarded:

Biden and others need to resign for dereliction of duty, incompetence and total lack of empathy. Nothing short of resignation is acceptable. Thank you.

It is the beginning of another month which means it is time again to review the latest political class insanity from the American political class. Each month it takes us multiple posts to cover the wasteful spending, incompetent government organizations and employees, government programs that usually make a problem worse than resolving it, inane and idiotic politician comments, etc.

To review past posts on this insanity and idiocy, just click on the first few posts in each month listed to the right of this page. After reviewing just a handful of these insanity posts we think you will agree that we are currently being served by the worst set of American politicians ever to hold office in our entire history.

1) Seattle has been one of the most inept run cities over the past few years. They have let the homeless problem get out of control, they have defunded the police which has reduced the effectiveness and size of the police force which has resulted in increased crime. And last year they allowed anarchists to actually take over the center of the city for a few weeks. In short, the Seattle politicians have been totally ineffective in governing the city and providing a very basic function of government, protecting the lives and property of its citizens.

And it appears things are not going to get any better any time soon:
  • Like other idiotic politicians around the country, usually in liberal/Democratic areas, the city and state governments have required that every city employee get vaccinated for the covid virus regardless of their religious, personal and freedom views on forced vaccination.
  • Failure to get vaccinated would result in being fired from their jobs.
  • The Seattle Police Department estimates that up to 40% of the force may face termination for their refusal to get the vaccine.
  • Their termination could occur as early as October 18.
  • The force has already lost over 350 police officers since the anarchists took over the downtown area and another 400 could be forced to leave over the vaccine mandate.
  • A police union official summed up the feelings regarding the city politicians and the vaccine mandate: “I’m not sure how we answer those 911 calls. This isn’t alarmist, but this is reality here. And many of the people that I represent are just fed up, and this is the last straw with them as they feel that they’ve been targeted for just being cops here in the city, as they think that this mandate has been politicized. And there’s not much more trust in our elected officials anymore.”
What idiocy. Another case where a political solution is worse than the problem. How many people will die if the police force does not get 100% of their force vaccinated? I would be willing to place a big bet that it will be far less than the number of people that will be killed, maimed, and robbed when the decimated Seattle police force cannot properly respond to 911 calls from frantic, law-abiding citizens who are being victims of crime.

First, defund the police failed and now vaccinate the police will fail. Again, idiocy on behalf of the politicians up in Seattle.

2) Speaking of defund the police, far too often we have discussed what a disaster that knee jerk reaction was in liberal run cities across the country. From New York City to Minneapolis to Los Angeles and many other cities, crime and violence skyrocketed, murders were way up, and the decimated police forces’ morale and effectiveness decreased significantly.

The politicians in these cities defunded their police forces before having any viable replacement processes in place, assuming there even are replacement processes. It is like trying to design a new parachute AFTER jumping out of a plane as you plummet to the ground with no backup chute available.

Well, let’s check in with those cities and the knucklehead politicians that forced the defund the police idiocy at its citizens:
  • According to recent reporting by the New York Times, politicians around the country are...increasing police budgets, just a year after they created the stupid defund the police bandwagon.
  • The NYPD saw their budget increase $200 million.
  • The LAPD saw a 3% increase in their budget.
  • The Dallas mayor not only wants to restore cut police budgets but also INCREASE the number of police officers on the job and on the streets.
  • The Burlington, Vermont city government is handing out $10,000 bonuses to get current police officers to stay in their jobs.
  • According to the Times, “rising levels of crime in major cities last year, the exodus of officers from departments large and small and political pressures” as the reasons for these cities’ change of mind.
All of this is the good news. The bad news is how many law-abiding citizens were unnecessarily killed, maimed, attacked, and robbed because mostly liberal politicians across the country knee-jerked to a vocal minority of left wing nutjobs to defund the police without having a viable replacement. Their action resulted in skyrocketing violence, crime, and murder rates, just very, very short term, inane thinking.

3) Far too many times we have discussed the dire straits that California is in, mostly because of stupid decisions and laws passed by the state’s political class:
  • The state has the highest homeless population in the country, far higher than expected relative to its total population.
  • The state has some of the highest gasoline prices in the country.
  • The state’s utility rates are about 50% higher than the national average.
  • The state has a massive housing shortage as a result of idiotic state and local government building restrictions, contributing to the homeless population.
  • The state has almost a trillion dollars in unfunded future financial liabilities.
  • The state’s public schools severely under-educate its kids.
  • The state has one of the highest poverty rates in the country.
  • Businesses and residents are fleeing the state to get away from high taxes, high gas prices, high utility costs, over regulation by government, and a worsening quality of life (e.g. in at least San Francisco it is not against the law to defecate, urinate, or shoot up drugs in public.)
  • The state politicians’ infatuation with solar and wind energy is resulting in more and more rolling blackouts since these sources are not reliable, i.e. the sun gets blocked or the wind stops blowing, forcing businesses to shut down and people to be severely inconvenienced.
  • This out migration flight is reducing the tax base which will worsen the unfunded liability problem in addition to reducing the state’s representation in Congress.
It is a state in turmoil and decline. But never fear, governor Gavin Newsom and his Democrat controlled state legislature are working to fix things that are of primary importance to the state's residents:
  • The state political class has recently passed legislation to force stores to not have separate boys and girls sections in their store in order to not distress…. who knows who these days, they must have gender neutral store aisles.
  • In a relatively short time the state will forbid the sale of gas powered lawn mowers, chain saws, weed whackers, pressure washers, and golf carts in a vain attempt to reverse climate change.
  • The state will also forbid the sale of gas powered emergency generators so that when the electric grid collapses people will not be able to get any relief from a gas powered generator.
Talk about bad priorities. Probably over 150,000 homeless people in the state and they are worried about gender neutral store aisles. Millions of state residents who are poor, food challenged, homeless, and desperate and these politicians are worried about gas powered leaf blowers while China and India are building coal power plants by the hundreds a year. High gas pieces, high tax rates, high inflation and these politicians are worrying about this tripe.

It is obvious why these folks focus on these insignificant, artificial problems while residents are dealing with real, sometimes, life and death problems. It is simply because the current set of state politicians have no idea how to fix the messes and issues they mostly created.

Thus, they focus on little stuff, e.g. leaf blowers, to make it look like they are acting boldly when in fact, who cares? When someone cannot afford housing or food, when the electricity is out and their food is melting and the tempers are skyrocketing, they need solutions to their problems not gender neutral retail aisles.

That will do it for today: Seattle’s self defeating covid vaccine mandate, how defund the police has come full circle, and California politicians still worrying about the deck chairs while that iceberg looms large on the horizon.
