Every month we devote posts to just general political class insanity that is running rampant through the country. The members of the American political class continue to show that they are incapable of efficiently operating any level of government in this country.
Even their best efforts are almost always ineffective at resolving any problem facing Americans. They spend a great amount of time not trying to improve the lives of their citizens but continually ensuring their reelection and enriching themselves, their families, and their friends in the process, all at taxpayer expense.
1)We have always claimed that America has and will survive bad Presidents (e.g. Nixon, Carter, Obama, Biden) but that it will not survive a corrupted journalism industry. Once those that report the news begin to be biased, slanted, and out of integrity then those “journalists” become propagandists. And unfortunately, a lot of Americans already believe that is where the industry sits today:
According to a recent Gallup poll, a record low 31% of Americans say they have a great deal or a fair amount of confidence in the media to report the news “fully, accurately, and fairly.”
This is down from an also putrid level of 32% from last year.
In fact, the poll found that mass media is the least trusted group among 10 U.S. civic and political institutions.
Congress did not fare much better with only 34% expressing some type of confidence.
Independent voters and Republicans have the worst view of the media’s integrity with only 12% of self declared Republicans saying they have any level of confidence in the mass media.
Back in the early 1970s when Gallup first began asking about trust in the media, results usually showed between 68% and 72% of those polled had some level of trust in the media.
50 years later, those trust levels have dropped by over 50%.
When journalism loses its independence and integrity then it is no longer journalism, it is propaganda, much like Goebbels during the Nazi era and Pravda during the Soviet Union era. The trend in integrity is not good here.
2)Long ago, Joe Biden had to drop out of the Presidential race to become the Democratic nominee for President when it came to light that he was a plagiarist. Seems his Vice President, Kamala Harris, did not learn from that long ago embarrassment:
Researchers have found large sections of Kamala Harris’ book have been lifted word for word from other publications without credit being shown to the original authors.
It appears she clearly copied passages from such diverse sources including media reports, academic papers, Wikipedia, the Associated Press, the Urban Institute, and the U.S. Bureau of Justice Assistance without citing the sources in the book.
And apparently these stolen words were not just a sentence or two that she lifted and inserted in her book but long passages from sources other people had written.
Plagiarism is worse when a public official and politician allegedly does it, their whole credibility is brought into question. But this is just another example of what we have talked about over the years, politicians and credibility do not often go together.
3)But Harris’s tarnished reputation does not stop with her alleged plagiarism:
Harris’s husband is named Doug Emhoff.
He recently came under fire when allegations arose that he physically assaulted his former girlfriend at a public gathering in 2012.
The New York Post reported that the alleged assault took place at the Cannes Film Festival where he supposedly hit his girlfriend with such force that she spun around while waiting in a valet line.
Three friends of the former girlfriend have spoken out and supported the details of the assault.
If true, just another example of the political elite thinking that laws and rules of decency do not apply to them.
4)Liz Cheney is a former Congresswoman from Wyoming. She is no longer in office but has continued to spew her hatred for Trump. She was the Republican vice chairwoman on the Congressional committee investigating the January 6 riot.
But it appears that she may have misbehaved in her quest to put Trump in jail:
Investigators have possibly found out the reality that Cheney may have used the encrypted app Signal to secretly communicate with a committee witness, Cassidy Hutchinson.
She may have also secretly communicated with a Hutchinson friend, Alyssa Farah Griffin.
These alleged secret communications could be serious legal ethical violations.
The D.C. Bar rules make it very clear that a lawyer, Cheney, may not communicate with a person who is represented by another attorney without that attorney’s consent.
Congressman Barry Loudermilk summed up this alleged infraction: “Our investigation has uncovered unethical back-channel communications between former Rep. Liz Cheney and Cassidy Hutchinson just before Hutchinson changed her sworn testimony. Not only is communicating with a witness without their attorney present unethical, it undermines the integrity of an investigation.”
According to Congressional testimony, Hutchinson fired her current attorney shortly after the secret communications and hired new lawyers that Cheney recommended and then changed her testimony for the January 6 committee.
The new attorneys did not charge for their services.
These ethics violations and the influencing of testimony in front of a Congressional committee are despicable. But as always with the American political class, Cheney will not face any criminal or ethics penalties, because those in power are always above the law.
That will do it for today: Cheney is allegedly unethical, Kamala’s husband is allegedly violent, Kamala is allegedly a plagiarist, and the mainstream price is definitely viewed as unethical.
