As most folks have probably heard, a young dogged, 23 year old independent journalist, Nick Shirley, has blown the lid off of what could possibly the biggest defrauding of government programs and the American taxpayer in history out in Minnesota, His investigative video has been viewed by tens of millions of times, if not millions of times by now. He meticulously used government data and information to show that multiple child care centers in Minnesota were nothing more than fronts for Somalia criminal elements, and possibly state politicians, to line their pockets with taxpayer wealth that was intended to help suffering Americans most in need.
For those who have not heard of this despicable scandal, the following link is his compilation of likely crimes against the taxpayer that he uncovered:

A few observations:
1)It was quite refreshing to view the above video and realize that this is what real journalism looks like: research, investigate, and report. Three easy steps, not that hard. He brings data and information and uses that to guide his research and investigation, after which the corruption reporting easily drops out. Quite amazing that a 23 year old does journalism better than just about every other person in the mass media, corporate news business today. And it did it all with just an X/Twitter account and a YouTube account..
2)Corporate news media used to do real journalism like Nick did. Mike Wallace and his role in the “60 Minutes" CBS news show comes to mind where he and his staff would continually research, investigate and then report on corruption and criminal activity every Sunday night. The New York Times used to do real journalism as one of their writers, Seymour Hersh, did on uncovering the “Pentagon Papers“ scandal. The Washington Post used to do real journalism as two of their writers did, Woodward and Bernstein, did on uncovering the Watergate scandal.
But those days are long gone, with current corporate news media turning out suspect, unresearched, unsubstantiated, and biased news report, having forgotten how to research/investigate/report like 23 year old Mr. Shirley did.
3)While Mr Shiley has done a great service uncovering the widespread Somali related defrauding of the American taxpayer, other, non-traditional news sources have uncovered other, likely related crimes and corruption of Minnesota government programs:
Almost 80 people in Minnesota have been arrested and over 50 have been found guilty to the “Feeding Our Future” scandal.
Hundreds of state government employees have become whistleblowers, calling attention to the Somali- related fraud, but politicians and law enforcement in Minnesota not only ignored the warnings, but news reports imply that those whistle blowers were intimidated to stay quiet.
Thus, Mr Shirley is not an inexperienced young man playing with a video camera, what he has uncovered is consistent with other taxpayer fraud that has been going on and being ignored by the powers in charge for years in Minnesota.
4)As we have previously reported in this blog, while Minnesota is getting the most fraud and Somali attention courtesy of whistleblowers and Mr. Shirley, other Somali organized crime gangs also seem to be operating in Maine and Ohio. And news has broken in Washington state that similar scams and defrauding of the American taxpayer is also operating out there.
5)And how is Tim Walz, the governor, handling the situation? Is he following up on Mr Shirley's findings and whistle blower accusations to protect taxpayer wealth, is he mobilizing state government law enforcement resources to bring those likely guilty to justice, is he calling on other whistle blowers to come forward to help weed out the crimes? Rather than doing the right thing, he pulled out the tired, pathetic, and overused race card, calling Mr. Shirley a racist.
Such a pathetic politician and human being. If I was Mr. Shirley I would sue the governor for defamation since there has not been any proof that Mr. Shirley is a racist nor did Walz provide any evidence that Mr. Shirley is a racist in any such way. Playing the race card is so shallow and racist in its own right.
Congratulations to Mr. Shirley for not only exposing likely massive fraud in Minnesota day care centers but also refreshing our memory on what real journalism is supposed to look like which is nothing that passes for journalism today in the corporate media world. May he be careful and safe, exposing criminal elements like this can be very dangerous. And Boos to Walz who either has no idea what is going on or is complicit in the corruption and needs to deflect using race as a shield.
The following are some other recent posts to show that Federal government and other forms of political and government corruption are not restricted to Minnesota:
