August, 2018, Part 6, Political Class Insanity: Only Cuomo Has Never Been Great....And Never Will Be

It is another month which means it is again time to review the latest political class insanity from Washington and around the world. Political class insanity takes many forms including the wasting of taxpayer wealth, criminal fraud within government programs, inane and stupid political quotes and actions, the inability to create and implement effective and efficient government programs, stupid and ill performing economic policies and strategies, and other forms of insanity that continue to evolve and surprise and shock us.

Let’s get started:

We will make today’s political class insanity post quite simple, basing it on an absolutely stupid, recent quote from current New York state governor, Andrew Cuomo. Speaking at a recent event, Cuomo stated that: “America was never really that great.” Obviously he is afflicted with TDS, Trump Derangement Syndrome, since he is obviously playing off of Trump’s campaign slogan, “Make America Great Again.”

He immediately began taking serious heat, rebuttal, and anger from across the land since Americans do not take kindly to the trashing of the major, major accomplishments and contributions to humanity this country has had over the past two and a half centuries:
  • America turned the tide in 1917 and saved the western world from the German invasion forces sweeping through Europe.
  • American turned the tide in 1941 and saved the world from the Nazis and Japanese empire in World War II.
  • America reconstructed Europe that had been devastated by the second World War via the Marshall plan.
  • America showed the world how different cultures, races, and religions from around the world could come to America to live together in peace and prosperity.
  • America’s military and policies helped prevent communism, a failed societal, freedom, and economic system, from taking over the world.
  • America created the biggest middle class in the history of mankind, lifting untold millions of people out of poverty and into a life of comfort and security.
  • America showed the world how to go to the moon and be successful in space.
  • America invented the Internet that has had enormous positive impacts around the world in so many different ways.
  • America perfected the mainframe computer, personal computer, and smartphone via American technology companies.
  • America created and maintains the best and longest running democracy in the history of the world, treating every citizen as an equal member of society regardless of race, wealth, sex, or creed.
  • From Korea to Bosnia, America provided the manpower and military power to enforce the mandates of the United Nations to protect those that could not protect themselves.
  • American scientists created many beneficial medicines and vaccines, including the polio and Measles vaccines, which have saved millions and millions of lives around the world.
  • Americans contribute about $400 billion a year to worthy charities to help those less fortunate in our society.
  • Regardless of what politicians may claim, racism levels in America are very low relative to other countries around the world and until the Obama administration were steadily improving.
I am sure that I missed out on many, many other contributions that America has made to humanity, all of which makes Cuomo’s statement that much more ridiculous. I am not saying America is perfect. America abused both Africans they used as slaves and Native Americans. Civil rights were suppressed for generations. Gay rights were and are an ongoing battle. America is not perfect, But is by far head shoulders ahead of any other country, culture, or empire that has ever been on Earth.

But as I thought about Cuomo’s comments, I actually started to feel a little sorry for him. I thought how sad it is for a person to go through life always looking at the negatives and not the overwhelming positives this country has brought forth. And then it hit me: from Cuomo’s view, maybe things are not that good since as a Democrat he is looking at what his Democratic Party peers have done, and destroyed, over the years:
  • Democratic politicians have ruled Detroit for decades, taking it from the third largest city with the highest per capita income into a desolate set of abandoned houses and neighborhoods, a city whose population is well under half its size from just a few decades ago, has given the city the highest violent crime rate in the country, and a city whose former politicians have a good chance of currently being in jail or having already served time for corruption.
  • Democratic politicians have ruled Chicago for almost always, allowing the southern and western parts of the city to be turned into a battleground of drug gangs and violence that leaves hundreds of innocent Chicago citizens dead and wounded every year with no end in sight.
  • Those same Chicago Democratic politicians have reduced the city’s bond value to junk status.
  • Democratic politicians in San Francisco have turned that city into a third world cesspool of human feces, public urination, and drug abuse in the streets while focusing on outlawing drinking straws.
  • Democratic politicians in Baltimore and St. Louis have turned those cities into the highest murder rate cities in the country.
  • Democratic politicians who served in the governor’s mansion in Illinois likely have the highest rate of criminal convictions and jail time of any other state’s governors.
  • Democratic politicians in California, Illinois, and New Jersey have created some of the highest tax rates in the country and yet still have found a way to be in a three way race to bankrupt their states and the schools, services, and pension funds that depend on them.
  • Democratic politicians have turned Flint, Michigan’s water supply into a third world embarrassment, endangering the lives of the people that have voted for them for decades and have turned the city into the second poorest metro area in the country.
  • Democratic politicians have driven several California cities (San Bernardino and Stockton) into bankruptcy.
  • Democratic politicians in Hawaii, New York, and California have managed to attain the top homeless rates in the country within their state’s borders.
  • Democratic politicians in Los Angeles have created so much poverty that 40% of its citizens make so little income that they qualify for Medicaid.
I could go on, I could have talked about Cleveland, Newark, Trenton, Memphis, and other cities that have been controlled by Democratic politicians for a long time, all to the detrimental of their cities’ citizens. But you get the point: if I was Cuomo and my Democratic peers had turned their government domains into bankrupt, violent, murderous, poor, homeless, and unhealthy hell holes, I might think that America was never great. He would still be grossly wrong and an insult to Americans who actually made America great, prosperous, and safe, often at the cost of their lives, but at least I see his perspective.

I just choose to help make America live up to its ideals, warts and all. The millions and millions of people have been drawn to America’s beacon of freedom and opportunity cannot all be wrong. I trust their judgment over the bitter and depressing view of a childish, negative, and narrow minded TDS afflicted politician.

Barack Obama - Using Executive Orders To Endanger The Biggest Progressive Victories Of The Last 50 Years

Before we get into the latest unConstitutional action and lawlessness of Barack Obama, let me set the stage. I am over sixty years old, I have never voted for a Republican for President in my life, and up until 2010, I had never voted for a Republican for national office. Thus, I am not a Republican, I am not a conservative, and I am not a right winger.

But I am an American. I do believe in the tenets and spirit of the Constitution. I do believe in the rule of law. And that is why on any number of levels, I find the recent Obama executive action relative to illegal immigrants repugnant, lawless, unConstitutional, and extremely dangerous to freedom.

The most obvious danger from his unilateral action is that it is a direct violation of Article 1, Section 8 of the Constitution: "Congress shall have the power to....establish a uniform rule of naturalization." This could not be any clearer. This power and responsibility within our republic lies with Congress when it comes to immigration and naturalization laws. Not the President, not the executive branch, Congress. Clear cut and concise. Thus, even if the President goes through with this clearly illegal action, it will no doubt be thrown out be the courts based solely on this explicit provision within the Constitution.

Now, the President will likely say he had to act via executive action because Congress did not act. And he may be right, maybe Congress did not act. But that does not allow the President to do what he wants, to ignore whatever current laws say no matter how distasteful that reality is to himself and immigration supporters.

The Rolling Stones once sang that "you can't always get what you want," and that is the case here. Mr. President, you cannot always get what you want, so get over it. If this issue is so important to you, you should have done it legally six years ago when you and your party controlled both the White House and Congress.

If you had acted then, you could have gotten what you wanted in a Constitutional manner that would have been able to withstand any court challenge. Your inability to plan or prioritize is all on you and you missed your window.

But your reckless and illegal actions on immigration carry a much bigger, yet more subtle risk, and danger to our country. In two years you will be gone, out of office. If the Republicans continue to politically out maneuver and out perform Democrats in 2016, like they did in the recent 2014 midterm elections, there is a very good chance that the country will get a Republican President in 2016.

And what if that President is just as disrespectful of the Constitution and rule of law as you are, acting on his or her whims rather than established legislative history and foundations? We might see Roe Vs. Wade get ignored and abortion made an illegal act again, based on the whim of a Republican President.

We might see gays ousted from our military forces again, based on the whim of a Republican President.

We might see existing gun control laws treated merely as suggestions and not law, based on the whim of a Republican President.

We might see the Civil Rights Act or Voting Rights Act nullified, based on the whim of a Republican President.

You get the idea. Acting on a whim outside of the constructs of the Constitution justify others acting on their whims also. If Obama gets away with this illegal action, it opens the door for further illegal action, actions that may be contrary to what non-Republicans find important. And wouldn't that be the ultimate irony of the Obama administration: opening the door to undo fifty years of liberal, progressive, and Democratic victories and advances?

This is much bigger than a spat between a President and Congress. Obama is making himself bigger than the country, its laws, and the Constitution. If he gets away with it, there is nothing to stop future Presidents from having similar temper tantrums and going into emperor mode, ignoring existing laws and the will of the people. At that point, voting, freedom, representative government, and liberty become quaint and historical concepts that have been destroyed in this country.

Is there a need for comprehensive, compassionate, and doable immigration reform?Absolutely. Should both Congress and the President start acting like adults, get together, and bring such a plan to fruition? Absolutely. Will this happen? Not once the President has again fallen short of his leadership duties and role and has poisoned the waters of compromise and unity by ignoring the Constitution and current laws of the land.

And if you believe in a woman's right to an abortion, if you believe in gay rights, if you want at least existing gun control laws to remain in effect, if you believe in the right to vote and in civil rights for all, I strongly suggest you contact the White House and your Congressional representatives and pressure both parties to do immigration reform the right way.

Otherwise, the next time a President goes rogue and acts like an emperor it might be an issue that you are passionate about, an issue your fought hard to favorably resolve, and an issue your thought was a done deal, only to have it blown up on the whim of a President. At that point it is too late to protect what is important to you and your principles. Don't let the following historical perspective repeat itself in this country (Pastor Martin Niemoller, 1892 - 1984):

"In Germany, they came first for the Communists. And I didn't speak up because I wasn't a Communist.
And then they came for the trade unionists. And I didn't speak up because I wasn't a trade unionist.
And then they came for the Jews. And I didn't speak up because I wasn't a Jew.
Then they came for me and by that time there was no one left to speak up."

Speak up now before whims and egos of shallow men drive this country, bypassing the rule of law and the Constitution.
