January, 2018, Part 3, Political Class Insanity: John Kerry Enriches His Daughter, California Kills Jobs, and More

It is the beginning of another month which means it is again time to review the latest political class insanity from Washington and around the world. Political class insanity takes many forms including the wasting of taxpayer wealth, criminal fraud within government programs, inane and stupid political quotes and actions, the inability to create and implement effective and efficient government programs, stupid and ill performing economic policies and strategies, and other forms of insanity that continue to evolve and surprise and shock us.

Let's get started:

1) Nowhere do American politicians show their ignorance more than on economic matters. They almost always opt for the solution that satisfies their political intentions rather than the economic solution that is right. In fact, more often than not, their decisions on economic policy make a bad situation worse, not better. Consider some analysis of a recent economic action from California politicians:
  • Joe Crowe, writing for NewsMax on December 15, 2017, reviewed the recent action taken by California politicians regarding the minimum wage in that state.
  • The state has enacted legislation that will force companies to pay their workers at least $15 an hour by 2023.
  • An analysis of that law by the Economic Policy Institute, which looked at employment trends from 1990 through 2017, concluded from their analysis that each 10% increase in the minimum wage in California resulted in a 2% decline in jobs for minimum wage workers.
  • This led the Institute to conclude that this latest economic foray by state politicians will cost the state 400,000 jobs.
  • Most of the job losses will be in the food service and retail industries, typical industries that hire lower waged people. lower income people.
As always, when politicians meddle in economics and the free market they end up hurting the very people they say they are helping. Or as we have said many times, “the good news is that you have to be paid at least $15 an hour at your job,the bad news is you no longer have a job (because in this case in California 400,000 jobs are likely to be wiped out because of this new law.” Thus, 400,000 people will see their hourly wage go to zero, not quite what the politicians likely had in mind.

2) Corruption among the American political class seems to be a constant these days. We had the Clintons running a kickback crime syndicate using the Clinton Foundation as a front. Congresswoman Corrine Brown was recently sentenced to jail for defrauding her own charity. Earlier this week we discussed the case of Congressional candidate Shaun Brown who was recently indicted by a Federal grand jury for defrauding her own charity also.

And now we have a story from the Daily Caller website on how former Secretary of State John Kerry defrauded the American taxpayer:
  • We have previously reported on how the State Department funneled millions of taxpayer dollars to a charity operated by his daughter, Vanessa Kerry.
  • The latest report purports to confirm that Kerry knew all about this sham, non-competitive bid situation and did nothing to stop it.
  • The Daily Caller claims that Kerry privately lauded his daughter’s program back in 2014 but did nothing to stop the non-competitive bid renewal of the State Department contract at that time: “What we’re talking about here is a multi-million dollar effort that will strengthen the capacity of healthcare workers to deliver lifesaving HIV services,” Kerry said in December 2014, at a World AIDS Day event. “[I]t will build on the Global Health Service Partnership with Peace Corps and Seed Global Health.”
  • These Kerry comments from over three years ago is in direct conflict with the official State Department position that Kerry “played no role” in Department decision to funnel over $9 million to his daughter’s non-profit without any competitive bidding on the project being done.
Makes one wonder, in conjunction with the crime syndicate that his predecessor ran while Secretary of State, was there was ever a more corrupt, crooked State Department under any other President than the one under Obama?

3) The next embarrassment from the American political class is a little dated but worth reviewing anyway. It comes from the Biz Pac Review website in an article written by Carmine Sabia back on November 24, 2017 and is related to the recent sexual predatory issue surrounding not only politicians but journalists and Hollywood power houses:
  • Most people know by now that a number of Washington politicians have been outed or at least accused of being sexual predators and perverts.
  • One of the most accused those perverts was allegedly John Conyers, a Congressman from Michigan, who eventually resigned as a result of his actions and/or accusations against him from numerous women.
  • Mr. Conyers apparently, at least in the initial stages of the sexual predator scandals, was not going to resign and apparently found a way to justify the reason for not resigning, according to his lawyer: “Mr. Conyers is not going to resign. If everybody that was facing ‘allegations’ — including the President, members of the House and Senate — resigned, we’d have a lot of unemployed people walking around.”
  • The lawyerly statement is kind of admitting your client is wrong without admitting he is wrong, i.e. everyone else is being accused or is guilty of sexual harassment and worse so let’s not worry about my client’s alleged behavior, everyone else does it also.
  • The lawyer then tried to rebound off of this “everyone else is doing it” defense to claim his client is innocent of the numerous charges even though we know that taxpayer funds were used to settle a 2015 lawsuit of sexual harassment that a woman had brought against the Congressman.
I did not do anything but even if I did, a lot of others may have done the same thing so you cannot punish all of us. Which sounds like an adult version of the excuse you gave our mom when you were a kid, “everyone else was doing it,” e.g. jumping off a bridge, so it is okay. Pathetically insane.

That will do it for today’s insanity: group think...and sin in Washington, John Kerry’s “I see nothing imitation” when it comes to enriching his own family with taxpayer wealth, and economic ignorance in California and the death of 400,000 jobs. More insanity to come.

December,2017, Part 3, Political Class Insanity: Bribing Hollywood With Taxpayer Dollars, TSA Still Screwing Up and MOre

1) Most people know that Washington has been racked with sexual harassment and sexual predator accounts and stories over the past month or so. Congressman John Conyers and Senator Al Franken have already been forced to resign because of their disgusting behavior towards women. In the midst of this uproar, it has come to light that Congress has been managing a slush fund to secretly payoff people who have filed various types of lawsuits against Congressional members and staffs including sexual harassment suits. The whole situation has been despicable.

Now, according to a recent Newsweek article, we find out this little piece of insanity about another Congressman:
  • Congressman Bob Brady oversees the settlement process and payments done by Congress to cover sexual discrimination complaints and lawsuits.
  • His position on the House committee on administration gives him power over settlement payments with the taxpayer funded slush fund discussed above.
  • It turns out that the Congressman is now under investigation by the FBI for making false statements, conspiracy, and campaign fraud.
  • Court papers state that Brady paid a former judge $90,000 to drop out of a 2012 primary race.
  • That person has already pleaded guilty to falsifying campaign finance records to hide the $90,000 payment.
  • Ironically, Brady also sits on a Congressional committee that has responsibility over how campaign contribution money is raised, reported, and used for House of Representatives races.
  • According to the FBI, Brady and his associates, “were involved in the commission of several crimes, including conspiracy, false statements, producing false records, false campaign contribution reports, and violating limits on campaign contributions and expenditures. Brady’s email account is likely to contain evidence of these crimes.”
  • Some of those Brady associates were indicted last month.
As always, these are allegations that do not mean any laws were broken by Brady. But if true, we have another insane example of how corrupt, greedy, and amoral the politicians in America are today.

2) Let’s get into a recent report on one of favorite and most inept Federal government organizations, the Transportation Security Agency, TSA. We have often pondered which Federal government entity is the most corrupt, useless, and inept, with the Social Security Administration, The Defense Department, and the TSA usually vying for that dubious honor.

The following story of incompetence gives the TSA a boost towards that title:
  • An undercover operation by the Department of Homeland Security, the parent agency of the TSA, showed that TSA “screeners, their equipment, or their procedures failed more than half the time.”
  • In fact, when ABC News asked their news source if the failure rate was 80% or so, the answer that ABC received was that their estimate was “in the ballpark.”
  • During a recent hearing before the House committee on Homeland security, Congressman Mike Rogers told TSA Administrator David Pekoske that, “This agency that you run is broken badly, and it needs your attention.”
  • The test apparently found trouble with just about all aspects of the TSA procedures including problems with screeners, screening equipment, and “associated procedures.”
So almost two decades after it was formed, the TSA still fails far more times than it is successful. After spending hundreds of billions of dollars, the TSA still fails far more times than it is successful. And after groping millions of Americans’ bodies, the TSA still fails far more times than it is successful. At least for today, I think you would agree that the TSA is the most inept Federal government entity.

3) Most state governments, especially those that have been dominated by Democrats over time, are not in the greatest economic or financial condition. They have underfunded pension and retirement plans for government employees, they are in deep debt, and have shrinking tax bases. The state of New York is one of those states. Although not in quite in the same dire situation of other blue states like Illinois, New Jersey, and California, I am sure that their physical infrastructure, schools, and debt situations could use every last dollar that is possible.

But according to the New York Post, in a November 9, 2017, the current governor of New York, Andrew Cuomo, is diverting a lot of those much needed state taxpayer funds to his liberal friends out in Hollywood, trying to entice them to use his state to film their movies there:
  • In a recent year, Cuomo arranged for a whopping $420 million of New York taxpayer money to be spent to entice Hollywood to film in the the state of New York.
  • That brings the five year total to $1.2 billion.
  • This makes the state of New York, and its taxpayers, the second most generous state to Hollywood over the past five years with only Louisiana paying out more than $1.2 billion.
$1.2 billion is a lot of taxpayer money, and to be honest with you, I would bet that there is no financial way in the world that this was a good investment from a financial break even perspective for the taxpayers in New York. Consider some logical numbers:
  • $1.2 billion over five years means that Cuomo is giving Hollywood, on average, about $240 million a year of taxpayer wealth.
  • This comes out to about $4.6 million a week on average.
  • Or breaking it down further, it comes out to about $650,000 every day of the week for 52 weeks.
I would assert that there is no way that the taxpayers in New York are getting back $650,000 a day, $4.6 million a week every day and every week for an entire year in sales taxes, fuel taxes, and income taxes from Hollywood shooting movies in the state. It makes no financial sense. And they would need $650,000 a day just to break even, never mind generating additional funds.

So why does he do it? Very simple, he gives Hollywood state taxpayer wealth and Hollywood gives him back substantial monetary contributions to his election campaigns:
  • Recently, Universal pictures Chairman jeff Shell hosted a fundraising event for Cuomo at his California home.
  • Invitees to the affair included Disney CEO Robert Eiger and CBS chief executive Les Moonves.
  • Hollywood based folks have previously given his election efforts $860,000 and California studios have chipped in another $400,000.
  • Previously, alleged sexual predator Harvey Weinstein had given Cuomo $111,000 in political donations that Cuomo only hesitantly returned after it was disclosed that Weinstein might be a really bad character.
Pretty sweet deal: use taxpayer money to fund your election campaign by first laundering it through Hollywood studios and executives 3,000 miles away. If this was a drug deal, it would be a felony, Since it is a politician’s operation, it is okay.

This is why we put Step 7 in our book, “Love My Country, Loathe My Government.” That step would make it illegal for anyone to contribute to a politician’s election campaign unless they lived in that politician’s domain of responsibility.

In this case, no one in Hollywood could give Cuomo’s election campaign any money unless they lived and voted in New York. If this tenet was in place, I highly doubt that Cuomo would be generously giving out state taxpayer to people so far away from his home state since they would not be able to reply in kind.

Another day, another bunch of scummy political antics, laundering taxpayer money through Hollywood, more TSA’s failures, and another alleged corrupt and low life politician. More insanity to follow.

The Disgusting and Despicable Sexual Perversion Behavior Of Politicians And Others Of Influence, Part 6

Readers of this blog know that we have never had a high opinion of most people in the American political class. We currently have a Congressman serving in Congress who once thought that the entire island of Guam could tip over. We have a Congresswoman who publicly said her home district of Houston sat 50 feet under sea level (it does not) and who thought the Constitution was 400 years old. We once had Speaker of the house who once proclaimed that the Obama Care legislation had to be passed BEFORE we found out what was in it. We once had a President who appears to have been a sexual predator. We currently have a President who has made many derogatory comments about women.

But it seems that in the past few weeks the bad news about our leaders in both the political class and the press that covers it has exploded from a sexual harassment, sexual predator, and general sleaziness perspective. These are the people that shape our laws, report our news and impact our lives everyday but have the integrity and morals of a dead rock.

Unfortunately, we are going to review the current, sorry state of these people over the next few days, keeping the details short and not too graphic but discussing enough to likely repulse you and realize how important it is to get these people out of office, out of our lives, and implement term limits to reduce the arrogance and ignorance that pervades our political life today.

When reviewing the following instances of alleged transgressions, keep in mind that we still do live in America where you are innocent until proven guilty. Claims of sexual misconduct are not realities of sexual misconduct. However, the overall trend is not good when it comes to the integrity and morals of those in power in the government and in the press.

1) I thought, and had hoped, with would have been done with sordid topic a few days ago. However, since our last post, when we assumed we were done with the sexual predators and perversions in politics, journalism and elsewhere, a whole new set of developments have arisen that require one more post.

Since we last spoke, the following major developments in Congress occurred:

  • Congressman John Conyers, the longest serving member of Congress, resinged because of his sexcually perverted and aggressive behavior.
  • Senator Al Franken resigned from the Senate after an ever growing list of women came forward to accuse him of groping them and other perversions.
  • Congressman Trent Franks suddenly resigned, not so much for groping and forcing himself on women, but because he felt bad for discussing birth surrogacy with two women.
I have a feeling that that the dropout count in Congress is not going to end with these three.

2) But as we have previously pointed out, sexual perversion in politics is not restricted top the national folks. According to Joseph Curl, writing for the Daily Wire on November 16 2017:

  • David Alcorn is a Democratic candidate for Congress out in Arizona.
  • He was arrested in mid-November and charged with felony stalking.
  • The arrest happened after a woman accused him of watching her and sending her a picture of his genitals.
Nice guy, and he also wants to serve in Congress and write and enact laws that affect each and everyone of us. Heaven help us.

Most people probably have not heard about this politician’s disgusting genital behavior because the mainstream media, CNN, MSNBC, ABC, CBS, and NBC have devoted an entire zero minutes to his felony arrest on their news shows.

According to a search of the television database TV Eyes, CNN, MSNBC, ABC, CBS, and NBC have given zero on-air coverage to Alcon’s arrest. The networks have also not published any stories about Alcon’s scandal on their websites in the past week. However, ABC,CBS, and NBC spent more than 79 minutes talking about Republican Roy Moore who has been accused of sexual harassment but nothing has been proven and he has not been arrested for a possible felony crime.

3) We have also pointed in these posts that Hollywood big shots are not escaping the reality that many of the most famous and powerful people in show business, e.g., Harvey Weinstein, John Lassetter, Kevin Spacey, are also sexual predators and harassers.

The latest from Hollywood regarding sexual perversion comes from an Independent Journal Review article by William Vaillancourt that was published on December 6, 2017:

  • The Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s office has now verified that it indeed does have audio records from 1993 when Corey Feldman, child actor star at the time, provided the names of alleged Hollywood sexual predators.
  • Previously, the Sheriff’s office claimed they could not find the records.
  • The Sheriff’s office says they found the audio records in storage and have turned them over to the LA Police Department for their investigation.
They provided no comment on what was on the recordings given there was an ongoing and alleged sexual juvenile abuse investigation underway.

Previously, Feldman had accused actor Jon Grissom of molesting him as a child back in the 1980s.

Keep this and other Hollywood perverts in mind the next time some ignorant Hollywood actor, actress, or director lectures you on politics, reality and moral behavior. Their hypocrisy is overwhelming when it comes to integrity, respecting others, and being condescending.

4) Let’s finish up this topic with some quick hitters on this topic. Apparently, so much sexual perversion by politicians has been going on that news outlets are compiling lists. Let’s start with a recent USA Today article:

  • A former aide to Congressman Blake Farenthold has accused him of sexual harassment.
  • The aide “accuses Farenthold of making sexually charged statements toward her and engaging in off-color behavior.”
  • She reportedly told another Congressional staffer that Farenthold told her that he had had “sexual fantasies” and “wet dreams” about her.
  • The accusations and suit were settled in 2015 using taxpayer money.
  • Congressman Ruben Kihuen has been accused by a former campaign female of repeated and unwanted sexual advances.
  • She claimed that he twice touched her thighs without her consent and was not comfortable complaining about him so she ended up quitting the campaign.
Buzzfeed reported that another woman had also complained about the Congressman.

According to the Constitution.com website:

  • Texas legislator, Borris Miles, has been accused by a young Texas legislative female intern, of profanely and disgustedly accosting her several years ago.
  • The intern claims she was standing on the street when a car pulled up with Miles in the car who asked the intern: “Bitch, you want to f___ with me tonight?”
  • She refused his disgusting advances at which point he cursed her out in front of witnesses.
  • According to the article, Miles has a long history gun waving and violently threatening others experiences.
  • The article goes on to identify another Texas politician, Carlos Uresti, as being allegedly another sexual predator.
  • According to witnesses questioned in the article, Uresti hit on staff members, journalists, and who know who else.
The disgusting and witness accounts regarding Miles and Uresti, which are extensive, can be read at:

https://www.thedailybeast.com/you-want-to-fck-with-me-tonight-horror-stories-from-the-texas-capitol

That will do it for our review of the disgusting and despicable behavior of many powerful people in our politics, press, and Hollywood. We will restate our reason for reviewing their bad behavior: these people write and enact our laws, they report on issues of our times, they shape our culture and they are hypocrites of the highest order. Their lack of integrity, brains, common sense, and common decency should give us all pause and question if we really want these types of low lifes affecting our lives as much as they do.

The Disgusting and Despicable Sexual Perversion Behavior Of Politicians And Others Of Influence, Part 3

We once had a Speaker of the House who once proclaimed that the Obama Care legislation had to be passed BEFORE we found out what was in it.

1) Earlier this week we discussed the reality that there was a very high potential that current Congressman John Conyers was a serial sexual harasser. Now, according to a November 28, 2017 article from the Patriot News Daily website, people in Washington knew about his alleged behavior for years and did nothing about it:
  • ABC News person Cokie Roberts recently appeared on ABC’s weekly news program, “This Week,” and told the world that Conyers despicable harassment behavior was no secret.
  • She explained that up until very recently, those in the know in Washington tried to protect their own when it came to sexual haraassment and seuxal predaotr men in high positions of power.
  • Specifically, “The fact that people are willing to be public can change things. I mean, we all talked about this for years.”
  • She went on to explain that Conyer’s behavior towards women was no secret: “Don’t get in the elevator with him, you know, and every female in the press corps knew that, right, don’t get in elevator with him.”
Everybody knew what a scumbag he was towards women and nobody did anything about it, says one from the liberal end of the political spectrum. Many of Roberts peers in the press crucified Trump for his behavior and attitudes towards women over the years and yet they remained quiet about an alleged liberal deviant Congressman that they knew about for years.

If there is one thing I absolutely cannot stand and that is hypocrisy and if what Roberts is right, then the Washington and New York press corps are the height of hypocrisy and cannot be trusted ever again to present news in a balanced and fair way on any topic or issue. Not when they protect sexual harassers they are in political alignment with.

2) Let’s stay with Congressional sexual harassment and discuss another Congressman who was recently a potential seuxal harasser:
  • According to a piece on the the Twitchy website on December 1, 2017, current Congressman Blake Farenhold has been identified as a sitting member of Congress who recently settled a sexual harassment suit.
  • According to the article, the American taxpayer helped in the settlement by supplying the $84,000 settlement payout.
  • Farenhold’s former communications director, Lauren Greene, brought the suit against the Congressman.
  • She sued in December, 2014 and alleged gender discrimination, sexual harassment, and creating a hostile work environment.
  • Specifically, “Greene claimed in the lawsuit that another Farenthold aide told her the lawmaker had “sexual fantasies” and “wet dreams” about Greene. She also claimed that Farenthold “regularly drank to excess” and told her in February 2014 that he was “estranged from his wife and had not had sex with her in years.””
  • When she voiced a complaint, the Congressman allegedly fired her and she instituted her suit which was dropped when both sides reached a settlement, apparently using taxpayer money to do so.
  • While the Congressman did issue a statement on this topic, he hid behind existing law and basically saying nothing, "The Congressional Accountability Act prohibits me from answering that question"
We are a nation that is $20 TRILLION in debt and we are using whatever scarce funds we do have to pay off the sexually deviant behavior of sitting politicians. Pathetic.

3) Several posts ago we discussed in detail the sexual harassment and sexual deviant behavior of current Senator Al Franken. We reviewed his tendency to grope women’s private parts, forcing them to kiss him, embarrassing them in photos, and other deviant behavior involving rape and the death of a gay man Philadelphia:

Well, it appears that the accusations against his behaviors from other women just keep on coming, as illustrated by a recent article by The Hill:
  • An Army veteran has recently come forth to accuse the good Senator of touching her inappropriately during a USO tour back in 2013.
  • At the time, Stephanie Kemplin was deployed and serving her country in Kuwait.
  • While taking a photo with him, Ms. Kemplin accuse Franken of cupping her breast with his hand, as she related to CNN: "When he put his arm around me, he groped my right breast. He kept his hand all the way over on my breast. I've never had a man put their arm around me and then cup my breast. So he was holding my breast on the side. And I remember thinking — is he going to move his hand? Was it an accident? Was he going to move his hand? He never moved his hand. It was long enough that he should have known if it was an accident. I'm very confident saying that."
  • A spokesman for Franken issued the following statement: "He has never intentionally engaged in this kind of conduct. He remains fully committed to cooperating with the ethics investigation."
  • But despite this statement, Franken himself issued a contradictory statement when he said that, “I know I’m going to have to be much more conscious in these circumstances, much more careful, much more sensitive, and that this will not happen again going forward.”
So what is the truth Senator, you have “never intentionally engaged in this kind of conduct” or “this will not happen again going forward?” Kind of hedging your bet around the truth here. Given that this Army person was not the only one to describe to this type of behavior, I think that trying to say you “never intentionally engaged in this kind of conduct” is quite the stretch.

More deviant behavior still to come in the following days.

The Disgusting and Despicable Sexual Perversion Behavior Of Politicians And Others Of Influence, Part 2

We once had a Speaker of the House who once proclaimed that the Obama Care legislation had to be passed BEFORE we found out what was in it.

1) We started this series of posts off with the story of how people in Congress were quite pathetic when it comes to sexual harassment. The number of people included in that circle of perversion seems to get larger every day with the Independent Journal Review, in an article by Sam Dorman on November 21, 2017, describing the alleged sexual predator behavior of Congressman John Conyers:
  • One of the Congressman’s former staff members, who was allegedly fired for not submitting to his sexual overtones, received a financial settlement because of his behavior.
  • This is just one person of several who apparently had been harassed sexually by Conyers, according to documents obtained and written about by BuzzFeed News.
  • The article ways that not only did Conyers harass these women but he also had members of his staff fly in women that staffers felt he was having affairs with.
  • According to Mr. Dorman’s article: “Several of Conyers's staffers signed affidavits for Congress's Office of Compliance describing how, among other things, the congressman touched one woman in a sexual manner and grew angry when she was near him with her husband: "In her complaint, the former employee said Conyers repeatedly asked her for sexual favors and often asked her to join him in a hotel room. On one occasion, she alleges that Conyers asked her to work out of his room for the evening, but when she arrived the congressman started talking about his sexual desires. She alleged he then told her she needed to “touch it,” in reference to his penis, or find him a woman who would meet his sexual demands.”
  • Furthermore: “She alleged Conyers made her work nights, evenings, and holidays to keep him company. In another incident, the former employee alleged the congressman insisted she stay in his room while they traveled together for a fundraising event. When she told him that she would not stay with him, she alleged he told her to “just cuddle up with me and caress me before you go. “Rep. Conyers strongly postulated that the performing of personal service or favors would be looked upon favorably and lead to salary increases or promotions,” the former employee said in the documents. Three other staff members provided affidavits submitted to the Office Of Compliance that outlined a pattern of behavior from Conyers that included touching the woman in a sexual manner and growing angry when she brought her husband around."
Again, if these accusations are true, and since this Independent Journal Review was written, additional disgusting stories from other women have emerged relative to Conyers, keep in mind that these are the types of amoral people that write and enact the laws of our land. Pathetic.

2) But sexual misconduct and harassment by politicians is not confined to Washington. According to a recent Breitbart article written by Katherine Rodriguez on November 21, 2017:
  • California State Assemblyman Raul Bocanegra has announced he will resign his legislative seat after six women accused him of unwanted sexual advances and unwelcome sexual statements directed towards them.
  • Apparently he continued this behavior even though the state Assembly Rules Committee had previously disciplined him for the same type of sexual harassment back in 2009.
  • The article also mentions that there has been an increase in sexual harassment throughout the entire state legislature.
  • The women say he initiated “unsolicited physical contact and emailing them soliciting dates” and “He grabbed me with one hand, grabbed my head and shoved his tongue into my mouth,” one of the women, Sylvia Castillo, told the Times this month. “With his other hand, he put it up my dress. I put my hand down to stop him from trying to grab at my crotch.”
As a result of the accusations, he has decided to resign next year and not seek reelection. Given his history of such behavior and his former disciplining by his peers, you decide who is telling the truth.

3) But it is not only politicians who have shown up to be sexually perverted, but major news and press people are also just as disgusting. According to Ben Kew, writing for Breitbart on November 21, 2017, a major CBS TV newsman was recently fired for sexual harassment:
  • Long time, important CBS newsman Charlie Rose was recently fired after eight women accused him of sexual harassment.
  • According to CBS News President David Rhodes: “A short time ago we terminated Charlie Rose’s employment with CBS News, effective immediately. This followed the revelation yesterday of extremely disturbing and intolerable behavior said to have revolved around his PBS program. Despite Charlie’s important journalistic contribution to our news division, there is absolutely nothing more important, in this or any organization, than ensuring a safe, professional workplace — a supportive environment where people feel they can do their best work. We need to be such a place.”
  • Some of the women's allegations include lewd phone calls, walking around naked in their presence, and grabbing women's breasts, buttocks, and genitals.
  • This ends a 40 year career in journalism.
  • In this case, Rose made it pretty clear that these were perfectly valid accusations:“I am greatly embarrassed. I have behaved insensitively at times, and I accept responsibility for that, though I do not believe that all of these allegations are accurate.”
Keep in mind these these people in the press and in elected office have a great impact on our lives. They write and enact our laws, report on news from around the country and around the world which leads one to ask the simple question: given the amoral behavior of these people, the secrets they have kept for years and/or decades, and their overall lack of integrity and compassion, why should we believe anything they say in any facet of their lives?

More disgusting behavior still to come.

January, 2017, Part 6, Polticial Class Insanity: MIllennials Depressed, Congress Wasting Time, and More Minimum Wage Nonsense

Today and for all of the insanity posts this month, let’s start off with a welcome piece of honest political dialog. It comes from a State Department spokesperson. Mark Toner, who is about to start the daily State Department press briefing. In a joking matter, he makes the following quote: "Welcome to the State Department. I think we have some interns in the back. Welcome. Good to see you in this exercise in transparency and democracy."

He then burst out laughing at his own quote, indicating he also knew what a joke the Obama administration has been, especially Mr. Toner’s State Department, when it comes to cover ups, lack of transparency, denial of Freedom of Information Act requests, the prosecution of whistleblowers, etc. But at least it was a little refreshing to finally hear some actual honesty out of Washington as we see from the actual clip of the news conference:

http://www.againstcronycapitalism.org/2016/08/when-even-the-state-department-spokesperson-cant-keep-a-straight-face-about-things-anymore-video/

With that context of honesty, let’s see what other insanity has been going down:

1)  If millennials are the future of the country, then the country is in a for a rough time. According to an annual opinion survey that was done by Country Financial Group last November:

  • Its annual financial security index found that millennials, those aged 18 to 34, had the lowest score of all age groups, 60.9 out of 100, regarding their financial optimism.
  • This score was even lower than the millennials pessimistic responses to the 2016 survey, making them the only age group to score lower on their 2017 expectations.
  • Gen X respondents had an index score of 66.6, Baby Boomers came in at 69.2, and those age over 65 had the highest optimism for the country’s financial state at 71.2.
  • Furthermore, about one out of three millennials do not think they will ever have enough money to retire comfortably, about half of them have not set any money aside in either bank accounts or investment accounts, and 29% felt unsure that they would be able to pay off their debts.
Given that Obama’s economic policies have restricted national economic growth, that most of the Obama recovery jobs have been part time or short term contract opportunities, that a record number of millennials are still living at home or with relatives, and wage and income growth has been mostly stagnant over the past eight years, it should not be a surprise that those just starting out on their own economic journeys are not optimistic on the financial future of the country or themselves. Horrific economic management by Washington in general and Obama in particular.

2) My father’s side of the family did not arrive in this country until 1914, almost fifty years after the Civil War and slavery ended in this country. My mother’s side of the family did not arrive in this country until 1920, about 55 years after the end of the Civil War and slavery. Thus, no ancestor on either side of my family had anything to do with slavery. And I would bet that there are millions of similar stories and families like mine across the country.

But that reality did not prevent the Congressional Black Caucus from again issuing a demand that white people like myself pay so-called reparations to African-Americans TODAY, none of whom were alive during the Civil War and the slavery era. According to the Washington Examiner: “Specifically, Michigan Rep. John Conyers and his fellow CBC members have “re-introduced legislation that would set up a commission to consider whether reparations should be paid to black Americans for slavery.”

Such insanity, such stupidity, for the following reasons:

  • As we mentioned above, all white people, and black people, who took advantage of slavery, died long, long ago and many of the current non-black citizens of this country have ancestors who arrived in this country long after slavery ended.
  • No African-American living today was ever a slave in the old South and thus, none of them suffered the ills of slavery.
  • Using this argument by the Congressional Black Caucus, reparations should be paid to the families of the 600,000 or so mostly white soldiers who fought and died to end slavery in this country, a reality that the Caucus never seems to grasp or champion.
  • According to the article, “Moreover, according to The Root magazine, known for its usually unapologetically pro-black stance on the issues, even some free black Americans “bought and sold other black people, and did so at least since 1654, continuing to do so right through the Civil War.”
  • And finally, “even one of the most leftist papers in existence, The New York Times, admitted two years ago that were a reparations bill passed into law, payments would “have to come from taxpayers, who have no culpability for those past crimes and little, if any, of the benefit.”
Rather than working on real problems facing African Americans today, e.g. higher than average African-American unemployment rates, failing inner city schools, urban violence in cities like Chicago, etc., these politicians keep introducing a bill that is stupid and has no chance of ever passing. Einstein once said that the definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results and this reparations non-issue fits that definition to perfection.

3) Given the sad state of the economy in many parts of the country and the historically weak economic recovery orchestrated by the Obama administration, it is pretty obvious, as we have pointed out many times, that the American political class does a pretty lousy job when it comes to economic policy and strategies. This inability was recently illustrated again by a Young Conservative website article by Andrew Miller on January 4, 2017. Mr. Miller reviewed how the political class in California had passed legislation to jack up the minimum wage in that state to $10.50 an hour with the intention to get it to $15 an hour by 2021.

In their minds this will provide a better life for California workers since they would be taking home more money. But the fault in their logic is that this assumes that businesses that employ these California workers can actually afford to pay higher wages. What if they cannot? This reality never seems to enter politicians’ minds when they start messing with economic realities.

However, the article illustrated one of these realities. Houman Salem is the founder and owner of a small fashion design and clothing manufacturer in San Fernando, California. While most of the clothing industry has sent their manufacturing offshore to cheap labor countries overseas, Mr. Salem should be congratulated for keeping Americans workers employed in California in the manufacturing segment of the economy.

But that noble effort was recently endangered by the new minimum wage increase drive by California politicians, as witnessed by an article Mr. Salem had published in the LA Times:

After two years in business, my company now has more than 150 clients from all over the world and 18 employees. It’s what’s known as a cut-and-sew house, part of the garment industry that generates about $17 billion in annual economic activity in Los Angeles County, including $6.9 billion in payroll, according to a 2016 industry report by the California Fashion Assn. This is the epicenter of apparel design and manufacturing in the United States; domestically manufactured clothing is more expensive, but retail and wholesale customers who care about quality and working conditions have historically been willing to pay for it.

Unfortunately, the industry is on a downward trend. Los Angeles County used to have more than 5,000 apparel factories; today, my company is one of roughly 2,000 — and many (e.g. American Apparel) are looking for a way out. One Los Angeles Times headline, quoting a California State University economist, warned that “the exodus has begun.”

So what did Mr. Salem do from a good business perspective? He has moved his operation out of California to Nevada which has a lower minimum wage than California in order to keep his business financially viable. Thus, bad economic policy by bad politicians had the following negative effects:

  • While California residents now have the advantage of a higher minimum wage, they have a disadvantage of not having a job or wage at all as California businesses like Mr. Salem’s move to where they can stay financially viable as a business.
  • Remaining California businesses lose the economic benefit of customer actually having a job, if at a lower salary, further depressing the local economy.
  • State and local government lose the tax inflows that these now unemployed citizens would have provided if the minimum wage had not been raised.

All of these California losses are now Nevada’s gain in Mr. Salem’s case, thanks to the continued economic ignorance of America’s politicians.

That will do it for today’s insanity: more economic ignorance from politicians, Congressional members focusing on an inane and stupid priority at the cost of other worthy efforts, and young Americans looking at the future pessimistically. More insanity tomorrow.
