Retro 6, Part 6, The Obama Presidency, The End Of An Error - Gross Economic Mismanagement

We originally ran this post back in October at around the 100 day mark of the final days of the Obama Presidency. We ended up running about seven blog posts which did a deep dive into the activities, acomplishmentsand failures of this Presidency. We found very little in the way of accomplishments but dozens and dozens of cases of falures and disasters, from the economy to foreign affairs to the basic concept of integrity. We are going to rerun those post over the next week or so as we close in on an end of an error, the Obama Presidency. 

Part 6, The Obama Presidency, The End Of An Error - Gross Economic Mismanagement

As we near the end of the Obama Presidency, I thought it would be a good idea at the 100 day mark to review what he has done to and for this country over the past eight years. Before we do that, though, let me repeat my previous background statements on my past political actions:

• I have never voted for a Republican Presidential candidate in my life and I have been voting since the the Nixon era.
• Until 2010, I have never voted for a Republican for national office in my life. 
• I am not affiliated with nor do I associate myself with the Republican Party, conservatives or people like Donald Trump. 

Okay, now that we understand where I am coming from, let me just say that in my opinion Barack Obama has been the most inept, most divisive, most narcissist and worst diplomat in my lifetime to reside in the White House. From the economy, to race relations, to the national debt, to foreign relations to government operations, to blatant disregard for existing laws and the Constitution, in just about any measure we are far worse off as a nation than prior to him coming into office.

Today, we will focus on the total mismanagement of the economy by the Obama administration. Now, I bet that many Obama supporters will try to point out what a fine job that Obama did in the economic realm over his Presidency, that:

• He has gotten the U3 unemployment rate down to about 5%. 
• He has presided over an economic recovery that is one of the longest ever. 
• He has seen steady, if low, job growth over the past six years. 
• He came into office with a nation suffering from a deep recession. 

But he had the following economic tailwinds to help the recovery, tailwinds that no other recession President ever enjoyed:

• Obama spent over $800 billion on a (failed) economic stimulus plan. 
• He enjoyed record low energy prices during his term that should have significantly spurred consumer and business economic growth, employment, and activity. 
• He had the support of trillions of fake dollars that the Federal Reserve pumped into the economy. 
• The Federal Reserve kept interest rates at low, low levels for a record long time.

Despite these unprecedented tailwinds, he still managed to botch the recovery since:

Over 43 million Americans still require Federal food assistance every month, 13 million more Americans than who were on food assistance rolls when Obama took office despite six years of the Obama economic recovery.

Growth in household incomes and wages has been basically stagnant during most of the Obama economic recovery period.

Job growth during the Obama economic recovery period has been concentrated in low wage areas of the economy, e.g. food services and retailing, which is a major factor in the lack of household income and wage growth.

According to a recent Gallup poll and a different analysis by the Federal Reserve Board, over 40% of U.S. households could not easily cope with an unexpected $400 household expense.

According to a recent Chapman University survey, more than a third of U.S. households have no savings to speak off despite six years of Obama’s economic recovery.

More Americans over the age of 65 than ever have elected to stay in the workforce, possibly because they have not yet recovered from the recession, six years into the Obama recovery period.

More American millennials than ever are still living at home since many of them cannot find a job that enables them enough wage power to live on their own.

The labor participation rate is at a forty year low as Americans cannot find a suitable full time job, causing many of them to drop out of the workforce.

There are more than 94 million American adults who are not in the workforce, an all time record.

More than six million Americans are working at part time jobs because they cannot find suitable full time jobs.

A more suitable measure of unemployment, the U6 unemployment rate, which more realistically takes into account frustrated Americans who have dropped out of the workforce is almost 10%, double the now outdated U3 unemployment rate.

Annual GDP growth never came close to the long term average during this recovery, with the Obama recovery never attaining at least a 3% annual GDP economic growth rate in any single year, an unprecedented, lower than average performance relative to historical trends.

The Obama administration has doubled the national debt load from $10 trillion to about $20 trillion during its tenure, adding more debt than all previous Presidencies COMBINED, a debt load that will restrict robust economic growth into the future.

The Obama administration has done nothing to reduce the long term growth in the national debt, which will place incredible economic pressure and strains on future American workers, businesses, and households.

The Obama administration has raised the key economic measure, national debt to GDP ratio, to over 1.00, a historically and dangerously high level, making the country’s debt load dangerously high and comparable to Greece’s.

The Obama administration spent over $800 billion on a failed economic stimulus program, that did nothing to promote long term economic growth (e.g. no substantial infrastructure was put in place despite the infamous “shovel ready jobs” slogan.)

The Obama administration implemented a series of inane, ill fated and amateurish economic programs that failed miserably including Cash For Clunkers, Cash For Appliances, and Cash For Insulation.

The Obama administration’s economic policies have done nothing to improve the employment plight of minorities despite being the first African-American President.

The Obama administration gave away billions and billions of dollars to a multitude of alternative energy companies, most of which had political and fundraising relationships with Obama, and almost all of them went bankrupt with no societal benefits in return.

The Obama administration added thousands and thousands of new Federal government regulations which wasted business and business owners' time and effort, distracting them from growing their business and overall economic growth, and placed bureaucratic, taxation, and legal burdens on businesses and industries across the nation while simultaneously raising the cost of doing business in America, costs that could have better been used to grow businesses and the economy.

The Obama Care regulations forced employers to reduce many of their employees to part time status which has greatly contributed to the stagnation of household income growth and forced those business owners to waste time, effort, and resources complying with the burdensome Obama Care bureaucracy and regulations.

Horrible, horrible economic management despite the four major tailwinds we listed above. So yes, Obama did get the outdated U3 unemployment rate down to about 5% but that accomplishment was attained with low wage jobs and in the face of millions of Americans dropping out of the workforce from frustration. 

Yes, he did preside over one of the longest economic recoveries of all time but he did it by doubling the national debt and generated far less economic growth than most other economic recoveries that were shorter in duration.

And yes, he did come into office in the midst of a recession but so did other Presidents, almost all of whom managed the country out of the recession into far more robust recoveries.

Overall, very forgettable economic strategies and management despite incredible conditions that should have had the economy soaring. More failures tomorrow.

As we near the end of the Obama Presidency, I thought it would be a good idea at the 100 day mark to review what he has done to and for this country over the past eight years. Before we do that, though, let me repeat my previous background statements on my past political actions:

• I have never voted for a Republican Presidential candidate in my life and I have been voting since the the Nixon era.
• Until 2010, I have never voted for a Republican for national office in my life.
• I am not affiliated with nor do I associate myself with the Republican Party, conservatives or people like Donald Trump.

Okay, now that we understand where I am coming from, let me just say that in my opinion Barack Obama has been the most inept, most divisive, most narcissist and worst diplomat in my lifetime to reside in the White House. From the economy, to race relations, to the national debt, to foreign relations to government operations, to blatant disregard for existing laws and the Constitution, in just about any measure we are far worse off as a nation than prior to him coming into office.

We will breaking down the failures and disappointments of this administration into some broad categories that will take us a number of days to cover as we analyze “The Obama Presidency - The End Of An Error.” Three days ago we reviewed the dozens of lies and broken promises of this President and two days we talked about the dozens of times that the Obama administration violated laws, the Constitution, and judicial rulings. 

Yesterday, we focused on how Obama and his administration has actively and aggressively divided Americans along sexual, racial, economic, and political lines. Specifically, rather than bringing people together, Obama stood silent and watched his political allies slander, degrade, insult, and divide the country to suit his needs, not the needs of the country and its citizens.

Today, we will focus on the many "firsts" of Obama and his administration, firsts that are often undistinguished, embarrassing, and a disaster:

Obama's Historical Firsts:

First President to apply for college aid as a foreign student, then deny he was a foreigner.

First President to have a social security number from a state he has never lived in.

First President to preside over a cut to the credit-rating quality of the United States.

First President to violate the War Powers Act. 

First President to be held in contempt of court for illegally obstructing oil drilling in the Gulf of Mexico.

First President to force all Americans to purchase a product from a third party, via Obama Care.

First President to spend and waste over $800 billion on “shovel-ready” jobs when there was no such thing as “shovel-ready” jobs.

First President to bypass Congress and implement the immigration Dream Act through executive decree.

First President to order a secret amnesty program that stopped the deportation of illegal immigrants across the U.S., including those with criminal convictions.

First President to authorize and commit the assassination of an American citizen without due process of law.

First President to terminate America’s ability to put a man in space.

First President to have a law signed by an auto-pen without being present.

First President to unilaterally and illegally declare an existing law unconstitutional and refuse to enforce it.

First President to threaten insurance companies if they publicly spoke out on the reasons for their rate increases.

First President try to tell a major manufacturing company in which state it is allowed to locate a factory.

First President to withdraw an existing coal permit that had been properly issued years ago.

First President to actively try to bankrupt an American industry (coal).

First President to appoint 45 czars to replace elected officials in his office.

First President in sixty years or so to golf more than 300 separate times while in office.

First President to win a Nobel Peace Prize for doing NOTHING to earn it.

First President to keep a dog trainer on taxpayer funded retainer for $102,000 a year.

First President to incur a trillion dollar annual Federal budget deficit.

First President to incur trillion dollar annual budget deficits more than one time (four budget years).

First President to not meet the Presidency's annual budget deadline and schedule four out of five years.

First President to stand in front of the world, via the United Nations, and tell an outright lie, i.e. the Benghazi terror attack was caused by an obscure YouTube video.

Now, an Obama supporter may claim that the following firsts are positives in the face of the above disappointing firsts:

First President to win a Nobel Peace prize, which is a falsehood since he is the fourth, not the first.

First African-American American President - absolutely true.

Not a great list to leave behind as a legacy and as we approach the end of an error. Tomorrow we will discuss the many economic financial failures of this administration.

Broken Promises and/or Lies

These disappointments are related in that many times it is tough to tell whether the President actually believed the things he promised and then failed to deliver them (incompetence) or he just outright lied in order to get what he wanted. I cannot tell which is which, which is why the following incidents of broken promises and/or lies are grouped together:

Obama promised if you like your doctor, you can keep your doctor under the Obama Care legislation. This was not a truth since millions of Americans lost access to their current and favored doctors as a direct result of Obama Care’s tenets.

Obama promised if you like your current health insurance policy, you can keep your current health insurance policy. This was not a truth since millions of Americans lost access to their current and favored health insurance policies as a result of Obama Care tenets.

Obama promised that the average American family could see their annual health insurance costs go down by up to $2,500 a year. This was not a truth since Obama Care policies costs, for both the premiums and deductibles, have been going up every year since the legislation was passed and was often much higher than the insurance premiums and deductibles people had prior to the Obama Care legislation taking effect.

Obama promised that getting access to an Obama Care health insurance policy was going to be a really simple online process which it was not. The Obama Care online processes, were slow, inaccurate, difficult to navigate, and opened up millions of Americans to a high chance of identity theft.

Obama promised that Obama Care would “bend the cost curve” of health care costs in this country but health care costs in this country and the cost of Obama Care policies continue to grow significantly year over year.

Obama promised that enacting the Obama Care legislation would not add a single dime to the Federal government deficits or the overall national debt but the legislation will likely add at least a trillion dollars to the national debt over the next ten years.

Obama promised to go through the Federal budget line by line to weed out wasteful spending which he did not do.

Obama promised to reduce the annual Federal government deficit by 50% by the end of his first term. Instead, he presided over four consecutive Federal budget deficits that exceeded a trillion dollars year, multiple times larger than any previous annual Federal deficit.

Obama promised to devote every waking moment of his life to serving Americans if elected President, foregoing private time, recreation time, and vacations and he then spent the next eight years playing over 300 rounds of golf, attending a record number of political fundraisers and taking exotic vacations around the world.

Obama promised that all Obama Care negotiations would be aired on C-SPAN which they were not.

Obama promised that all pending legislation would be put up on the Internet for public review for five days before he signed it but that never happened.

Obama promised we would have our troops out of Afghanistan by 2014 but two years after that deadline U.S. troops are still in the country. 

Obama promised that he would close the terrorist prison camp at Gitmo but it is still open and many of those terrorist suspects that he has released have returned to the world of terrorism around the world.

Obama lied to the world, to the nation and the families of those who were killed by a terrorist attack at Benghazi, falsely and willingly claiming that the cause of the terror attack at our consulate at Benghazi was an unknown YouTube video.

Obama promised to operate the most transparent Presidency ever and ended up operating one of the most secretive administrations of all times, ignoring Congressional requests and subpoenas, blocking and delaying many, many legitimate Freedom Of Information Act requests, persecuting and prosecuting more government whistleblowers than all previous Presidents combined, and spying on and hounding legitimate journalists.

Obama promised that his economic stimulus plan would create a plethora of “shovel ready jobs” but ended up creating very few legitimate and enduring jobs.

Obama falsely claimed that the Supreme Court had never overturned any law that Congress had passed.

Obama promised that lobbyists would be excluded from high ranking positions in his administration, a promise that never occurred as many lobbyists ended up taking jobs high up in his administration.

Obama stated that the IRS was not targeting or violating the First Amendment rights of anyone but it is now apparent that the administration conspired with the IRS to block any political groups or citizens that were not consistent with the views of the administration.

Obama lied when he said that he did not say there was a red line that would result in dire consequences if the Syrian government used chemical weapons on its citizens when he actually did say there was a red line that should not be crossed.

Obama promised that he was not spying on innocent Americans but it was later clear that his administration, via the NSA, was spying on just about every American’s electronic communications.

And his biggest lie or broken promise of all: “I, Barrack Hussein Obama, pledge to preserve, protect and defend the Constitution of the United States of America.”

Let's stop our broken promise/lies list here but let me give you one more source of Obama lies. The Politifact website, an organization that is supposed to be an unbiased source for facts and realities, tends to give Democrats and liberals the benefit of the doubt when it comes to political statements. Thus, whenever it declares that a liberal or Democrat has lied, you know it must have really passed the smell test. Obama promised to reduce the annual Federal government deficit by 50% by the end of his first term. Instead, he presided over four consecutive Federal budget deficits that exceeded a trillion dollars year, multiple times larger than any previous annual Federal deficit.

Obama promised to devote every waking moment of his life to serving Americans if elected President, foregoing private time, recreation time, and vacations and he then spent the next eight years playing over 300 rounds of golf, attending a record number of political fundraisers and taking exotic vacations around the world.

Obama promised that all Obama Care negotiations would be aired on C-SPAN which they were not.

Obama promised that all pending legislation would be put up on the Internet for public review for five days before he signed it but that never happened.

Obama promised we would have our troops out of Afghanistan by 2014 but two years after that deadline U.S. troops are still in the country. 

Obama promised that he would close the terrorist prison camp at Gitmo but it is still open and many of those terrorist suspects that he has released have returned to the world of terrorism around the world.

Obama lied to the world, to the nation and the families of those who were killed by a terrorist attack at Benghazi, falsely and willingly claiming that the cause of the terror attack at our consulate at Benghazi was an unknown YouTube video.

Obama promised to operate the most transparent Presidency ever and ended up operating one of the most secretive administrations of all times, ignoring Congressional requests and subpoenas, blocking and delaying many, many legitimate Freedom Of Information Act requests, persecuting and prosecuting more government whistleblowers than all previous Presidents combined, and spying on and hounding legitimate journalists.

Obama promised that his economic stimulus plan would create a plethora of “shovel ready jobs” but ended up creating very few legitimate and enduring jobs.

Obama falsely claimed that the Supreme Court had never overturned any law that Congress had passed.

Obama promised that lobbyists would be excluded from high ranking positions in his administration, a promise that never occurred as many lobbyists ended up taking jobs high up in his administration.

Obama stated that the IRS was not targeting or violating the First Amendment rights of anyone but it is now apparent that the administration conspired with the IRS to block any political groups or citizens that were not consistent with the views of the administration.

Obama lied when he said that he did not say there was a red line that would result in dire consequences if the Syrian government used chemical weapons on its citizens when he actually did say there was a red line that should not be crossed.

Obama promised that he was not spying on innocent Americans but it was later clear that his administration, via the NSA, was spying on just about every American’s electronic communications.

And his biggest lie or broken promise of all: “I, Barrack Hussein Obama, pledge to preserve, protect and defend the Constitution of the United States of America.”

Let's stop our broken promise/lies list here but let me give you one more source of Obama lies. The Politifact website, an organization that is supposed to be an unbiased source for facts and realities, tends to give Democrats and liberals the benefit of the doubt when it comes to political statements. Thus, whenever it declares that a liberal or Democrat has lied, you know it must have really passed the smell test.
