August, 2022, Part 4, Political Class Insanity: Economic Ignorance In DC, Senator Warren Rues Not Having a Penis and Financial Death Spiral Signs In 10 Cities

 Time to check in on the American political class and see what nonsense, idiocy, and other shenanigans they are up to:

 

1)A number of years ago we wondered how someone could be in Congress and still be so ignorant of the government and the world. That person was New York Congresswoman, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez. This is a person with a college degree in economics. And yet she was not anywhere close to understanding the basic definition of unemployment, a concept that is probably taught in the first week of high school economics. 

 

She was also running for Congress when she issued the ignorant comment that the three branches of the U.S. government were the Presidency, the Senate, and the House of Representatives. Seems she did not know that the Supreme Court has been a branch of the Federal government since the late 1700s.

 

But she is not the only person in DC spouting off nonsense:

 

  • Inflation in June was 8.5% and inflation in May was also 8.5%.

  • By  definition this means that prices in general in June, 2022 were 8.5% higher than they were in June, 2021.

  • Similiarly, prices in May, 2022 were 8.5% higher than they were in May, 2022.

  • Pretty simple, right?

  • But still  too complicated for Joe Biden, who boldly announced that inflation was 0% in June, meaning that prices in June 2022, were about the same as in June, 2021.

  • Yes, the rate of inflation in June, 2022 was the same as the rate of inflation in May, 2022 but that does not mean the rate of inflation in June was zero, unbelievable that he thinks so.

  • But the idiocy is not restricted to Biden since his Transportation Secretary, Pete Buttiege recently stated that those people who were upset about skyrocketing gas prices could eliminate that hassle of high priced gas by buying a $60,000+ electric car.

  • Never mind that the majority of Americans cannot afford to buy an expensive electric car, they would still have to pay for electricity to charge there electric car, they will likely have to purchase an expensive battery to replace the original battery in their electric vehicle when the original dies, and there is a remote but real chance that electric car is going to spontaneously catch fire, making Buttiege’s statement pure stupidity,

  • But not to be outdone by being out of touch with reality, Biden’s Energy Secretary, Jennifer Granholm, recently said that homeowners can avoid paying for high priced fuel to cool and warm their houses by spending tens of thousands of dollars to equip their homes with solar panels.

  • When families are struggling just to put food on the table because of the high inflation of Biden’s inane economic policies, telling them to simply payout tens of thousands of dollars for solar panels is ridiculous.

 

Just more examples of how those in Washington are both ignorant and stupid when it comes to basic economic policies and are so out of touch with the struggles of most American families as they try to cope with Biden’s decades high inflaiton results.

 

2)I decided to  break out Senator Elizabeth Warren’s latest insane statement and attitude from the above examples because it merits a distinction for possibly being the worst statement ever made by a U.S. Senator. The good Senator wanted to run for President in 2020 but did not get the chance that eventually went to Biden.

 

Now, one might think that she did not win because she did not connect with enough voters, that maybe her views were not popular enough, maybe she did not raise enough campaign cash or any number of other rational reasons why she lost out to Biden.

 

But the good Senator has convinced herself that there was another reason why she did not win the nomination for President:

 

  • In a recent interview with an NBC correspondent, she claimed that she finished third in the Democratic primaries because she does not have a penis.

  • Yes, according to her reckoning, it was not her ideas, her lack of chemistry with voters, insufficient campaign funds that denied her the nomination but her lacking of a male sex and urination organ.

  • According to the Senator: “Everyone comes up to me and says, ‘I would have voted for you if you had a penis.”

 

Wow, that political excuse is a first. Give her credit for originality. I do not remember “everyone” commenting at the time that they would have voted for her if she just had a penis. Even if she believes this nonsense, stating it out loud to a news person has to be one of the dumbest political statements ever made. Insanity.

 

3)We have often made the case that people want to be free and will take whatever action they think necessary to fulfill that goal and need:

 

  • They want to be free from oppressive taxation levels that rob them of their hard earned cash and hinder them from running their lives as they see fit.

  • They want to be free from excessive government regulations that inhibit economic growth and prosperity.

  • They want to be free from fearing for their lives and property from high crime rates and violence.

 

Many times we have pointed out that this desire to be free of high taxes, high regulation, and high crime rates  is driving people out of certain states and cities where these conditions exist. This out migration has been most pronounced in high tax, high crime states like Illinois, California, New York and New Jersey.

The out migration has been high in cities like Chicago, Los Angeles, San Francisco, New York City and other high tax/high crime cities.

 

The problem with this type of migration is that it tends to be the higher income, wealthier residents that are leaving these states and cities. This out migration reduces the tax base which results in government tax revenue shortfalls which results in higher taxes which results in more out migration and the financial death spiral is in place.

 

So let’s revisit this situation and see if anything has changed. Redfin, a major real estate brokerage company, recently released a report that identified the 10 U.S cities that Americans seem most desperate to move out of. The top ten cities suffering out migration issues are really no surprise:

 

  1. San Francisco

  2. Los Angeles

  3. New  York City

  4. Washington DC

  5. Seattle

  6. Boston

  7. Detroit

  8. Denver

  9. Chicago

  10. Minneapolis

 

Many of these cities, especially the ones at the top of the list and Chicago, were our favored  picks to be the next major city to declare bankruptcy as the financial death spiral kills off the financial viability of a city’s government. And most of these cities are high taxation, high government regulation, and high crime centers, not very conducive to a high quality of life experience.

 

People want to be free, a sentiment that never seems to make sense to the above big city mayors and politicians who let crime run rampant, keep raising taxes, and keep interfering in people’s lives with higher and higher levels of government regulation.

 

That will do it for today: the financial death spiral phenomenon is alive and possible in at least 10 U.S. cities, a female U.S.Senator laments out loud her lack of a penis, and Washington people are still ignorant and elitists when it comes to economic realities for most Americans, realities that they do not face on a day to day survival basis.

August, 2022, Part 3, Political Class Insanity: Biden Parties While The Nation Suffers, Summers Cause Childhood Obesity, Defund the Police Is Still Stupid and More

 Time to check in on the American political class and see what nonsense, idiocy, and other shenanigans they are up to:

 

1)Let’s be honest, the country and the world are not in great shape these days:

 

  • American consumers are suffering through inflation rates that have not been experienced in four decades.

  • Gas prices and food prices are rising even  quicker than the overall inflation estimate.

  • Russia and Ukraine are still at war.

  • China is threatening to invade Taiwan.

  • In this country, we are in a recessionary period from an economic perspective.

  • Drug overdose rates are skyrocketing since Biden has opened up the southern border.

  • Millions of Americans are hungry, homeless or fighting drug addiction.

 

And where has the President of the United States been during these crises:

 

  • Apparently he has been hanging out on vacations at his home and beach house in Delaware.

  • According to former CBS White House journalist, Mark Knoller, Biden has spent more time away from D.C, either at his homes or on vacation, than any of his three predecessors at the same point in their Presidencies.

  • In the 19 months or so that Biden has been in the White House, he has visited his Delaware residences for vacation 49 times covering 150 days.

  • Thus, he has spent about one out of every four days in Delaware since becoming President despite the crises facing the country and world listed above.

  • The number of days spent away from DC and the number of trips to his homes is higher than what Trump, Obama, and Bush did.

 

Another set of pathetic priorities from a career Washington politician. The country is suffering and Biden is riding his bike around the beach, so sad.

 

2)Jamaal  Bowman is a New York city area Congressman. He calls himself a socialist and since getting into Congress he has called for any number of detrimental actions to be taken against police forces:

 

  • He has called for the dismantling of the current criminal justice system which includes defunding the police and defunding the criminal justice system, that are “terrorizing our communities.”

  • He also attacked Republicans besides attacking the police: "Republicans want to defund every government program except for those that actively terrorize black and brown people." 

  • He then went further and not only wanted to defund the police but in an October 2019 tweet he stated: “it’s time to disarm the police.”

So, in his mind it is not the drug cartels, the drug dealers, the criminal elements, or other unsavory people that are a danger to his voters but the police and the judicial system. Since he has come into office, however, and repeatedly called for the police to be defunded and disarmed, the following developments have happened in his Congressional district:

  • In three of the precincts in his district, there have been 3,396 violent crimes, up from 2,609 in the same timeframe last year, about a 30% increase in crime in a single year.

  • One of those precincts actually saw a 74% increase in violent crime year over year.

  • Some of the violent crime categories in that precinct were up over 100%.

Yeah, defunding the police and disarming the police is such a good idea when crime rates are going through the roof. How can anyone be so wrong about the obvious? 

As we have discussed so many times in this blog, “defunding the police'' was one of the most stupid, harebrained, and dangerous ideas to be put forth by the American political class in modern times. It was never more than a slogan with no substance behind it. As a result, Americans are being killed, maimed, and robbed because of empty minded Congress people like this.

3)American politicians just don’t come up with empty minded and dangerous slogan, they actually sometimes get arrested for being potential criminals:

  • A Federal grand jury recently indicted former California Congressman, TJ Cox, on 28 criminal charges.

  • These charges include 15 counts of wire fraud, 11 counts of money laundering, one count of financial institution fraud, and one count of campaign contribution fraud.

  • He faces up to 55 years in prison and a $1.5 million fine if convicted on all charges.

  • He is accused of stealing over $3 million in fraudulently obtained loans and investments for different business ventures among other alleged crimes.

  • He also allegedly handed  out over $25,000 to family and friends as part of an effort to get around campaign finance laws.

The good news  is that he may have gotten caught breaking the law and will face stiff penalties if found guilty. The bad news is that it is a pretty safe bet that many other national, state, and local politicians are doing similar things and will likely get away with their self enrichment criminal acts. Just look at how rich long term Washington politicians have become, far richer than what they could have possibly earned from just their Congressional pay.

4)We have often talked about and debunked the myth that manmade global warming and its current marketing facade, climate change, is just that, a myth. We will not go into the proof we have laid out for this position so many times, a position supported by real science, but rather focus on the latest insanity as it relates to another climate change myth.

Supporters of the climate change myth over the years have expressed a number of crazy ideas as it relates to climate change: beavers building dams cause climate change, middle class families maintaining well groomed lawns around their homes cause climate change, dark colored roofs on homes cause climate change, etc. If there is any way to correlate anything to climate change mania, certain liberal leaning folks will try to make the connection even if it is a ridiculous correlation and has nothing to do with causation.

The latest climate change insanity is as follows:

  • It is summertime in the country which means the temperatures will be hot, much like they have been hot for summers for eons.

  • Which is where the next faulty correlation analysis comes from. 

  • Recently, a TV newscaster asserted that the reason that so many of our kids are overweight and obese is because of climate change.

  • Yes, it is too hot outside, because of manmade climate change, for kids to go out and frolic about and be active and lose weight.

  • The person put no proof forward supporting her claim, just that 1) it is hot outside, 2) it is too  hot for kids to go outside, 3) kids are fat and thus, voila, climate change causes obesity.

Could it maybe be that we made it too comfortable for kids to be inside, that we as a society let our kids sit in front of a video game for hours on end because we as a nation are too lazy to be good parents? Could it be that life has gotten so expensive that both parents have to go to work everyday, leaving the kids home in the house for their own protection? Have spoiled our kids by getting them smartphones at a very young age which results in them staring at the screen and doing social media all day long rather than going outside?

So many reasons why American kids are overweight, reasons that have a rational and scientific basis vs. it's hot outside and thus, climate change makes kids fat. Ridiculous.

That will do it for today’s insanity: more climate change myths, Biden parties while the country suffers, defund the police is STILL a stupid, fatal idea, and another American politician may have gotten caught making himself rich rather than focusing on helping his voters.

August, 2022, Part 2, Political Class Insanity: A Mayor Goes To Jail, China Has More Credibility Than Biden, and More

It's another month so let’s check in with the American political class and see the recent insanity, ineptness, wasteful spending, and other disgusting behaviors that our politicians have been up to:

1) At any time in this country there are between 500,000-600,000 homeless Americans on the streets. There are millions of Americans who are in danger of being hungry. There are millions of American drug addicts that are in desperate need of drug addiction services.

And yet American politicians and American government officials continue to waste money on nonsense like this:
  • In a recent Senate hearing, the U.S. Department of State’s Chief Diversity and Inclusion Officer, Gina Abercrombie-Winstanley, was questioned by Senator Marco Rubio.
  • Specifically, he questioned why American taxpayer money was spent on a film festival, in Portugal of all places, that promoted incest and sex with minors.
  • The State Department spent $10,000 promoting the Queer Lisboa film festival.
  • According to the Washington Free Beacon:“The festival’s offerings included P.S. Burn This Letter Please, a documentary about drag culture in post-war New York City, Saint-Narcisse, a film about incestuous twins, and Minyan, a movie about a 17-year-old Jewish boy who leaves his parents to explore New York City’s gay scene and eventually has sex with an adult bartender.”
  • Rubio asked the obvious question: “How would promoting a drag queen film festival in Portugal advance our national interest? And how much taxpayer money was spent putting on this film festival?”
  • Unbelievably, Abercrombie-Winstanley did not have an answer: “Thank you for the question, Senator. I will take it back to get an answer for you. I do not know.”
Seriously, it does not matter what the film festival topics were about. This type of wasteful spending on any film festival, especially one in Europe, should never occur as long as there are homeless, hungry, and addicted Americans in need of help. That $10,000 could have given 3,000 Americans a decent hot meal, based on current homeless shelter food costs, certainly a much better use of wealth than on a European film festival. Insanity.

2) Joe Biden has had a pathological history of lying about himself, his background and his history:
  • He said he marched with Nelson Mandela in South Africa and got arrested for doing so….but he did not.
  • He said he went to a mostly black university for his undergraduate studies….but he did not.
  • He said he drove a large semi tractor trailer truck…but he did not.
  • He said he taught Constitutional law for decades…but he did not.
  • He said he wrote some original work…but he did not, he plagiarized others' work.
We could go on and on about his lies but you get the idea, his whole career is built on lies. He recently had telephone talks with the Chinese Premier, Xi Jinping:
  • Biden claimed that he talked about such issues as forced labor and genocide with Xi.
  • The official White House summary of the talks support Biden’s assertion that these topics were discussed.
  • But the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs claims that those topics never came up during the discussions.
  • Specifically according to Fox News: The Chinese MFA denied the alleged conversation entirely, saying, “According to White House Press Secretary, ‘genocide’ & ‘forced labor’ came up in last night’s call between Chinese & US Presidents. That is disinformation. A similar message was pushed separately in which the MFA called the alleged conversation “pure lies” and “false information."
The sad part is I am just as likely to believe the Chinese Communist regime than the American President, given Biden’s history of lying and false assertions. And that is a very sad commentary on the credibility of the American political class.

3) Referring back to the millions of Americans who are homeless, hungry, and drug addicted, one would hope that the politicians in Washington would be laser focused on alleviating the suffering of these folks. And as always, that hope would be misplaced, as we see that Washington politicians are focused on a non-issue that occurred over a hundred years ago:
  • Members of the House of Representatives are working on an effort to rescind the Medals of Honor given to U.S. soldiers who were involved in the 1890 Wounded Knee massacre.
  • That incident involved the killing of 250 Native Americans, many of whom were women and children.
  • The U.S government was attempting to annex the Great Sioux Reservation, in violation of the 1868 Treaty Of Laramie.
This was obviously a horrible chapter in American history. But it occurred 132 years ago. No one is alive who was involved in the incident. I would bet that 99.9% of Americans have no idea what this is about. And yet, the Washington political class is wasting time and resources on this idiocy.

I would bet that if you polled a sample of Americans, this non-issue does not make the top thousand list of issues that we need to address in this country. And yet these are the priorities of Washington politicians, likely because they are not smart enough or focused enough to resolve the real issues facing real Americans.

4) Turns out that American politicians are not only inept with bad priorities but some of them are just flat out criminals:
  • A former Georgia mayor, Jason Lary, was recently sentenced to 57 months in a Federal prison and fined almost $120,000.
  • He was found guilty of planning to steal almost $925,000 out of $6.2 million in COVID relief funds that were intended for his city.
  • The specific charges were wire fraud, Federal program theft, and conspiracy to commit Federal program theft.
  • This was what the judge had to say: “What he did was deplorable. Absolutely deplorable. At the time of the greatest medical and economic catastrophe in generations, Mr. Lary, instead of being the honest and respectable mayor that he was elected to be … used that as an opportunity to steal.”
  • According to the prosecutor: “Lary betrayed the trust placed in him by the citizens of Stonecrest by stealing the very funds meant to help his constituents weather the COVID-19 pandemic. The people of Stonecrest deserved better, and corrupt officials can expect severe consequences for using their offices to commit crimes.”

Another day, another American politician enriching himself or his friends and family.

That will do it for today’s insanity: wasting taxpayer wealth in Portugal while Americans suffer, a communist regime has more credibility than an American President, Congress works on a 132 year old incident, and another American politician goes to jail for his greed.

August, 2022, Part 1, Political Class Insanity: The Idiocy and Stupidity of Many U.S. City Politicians and the Great Migration To Safer Lives

It's another month so let’s check in with the American political class and see the recent insanity, ineptness, wasteful spending, and other disgusting behaviors that our politicians have been up to:

1) We have all too often talked about how the local, county, and state politicians in Chicago, Cook County, and the state of Illinois have failed the residents of the city of Chicago. It has turned the city into a lawless and very dangerous place to live. For a number of years, more people have been killed and wounded in Chicago than in any other U.S. city.

And apparently the carnage is still underway:

  • During a single recent weekend, an amazing 66 Chicago residents were shot.
  • Four of those 66 died from their wounds.
  • And the shootings do not just happen in the early morning night hours: “Police told Fox News Digital that three people were shot in the 0-100 block of East 108th St. at around 2:30 p.m. on July 23, which is outside the Universal Community Missionary church,” it added.
A very, very basic principle of any government entity is to protect the lives and property of the citizens it has responsibility for. Any other accomplishments that are attained by politicians, but who cannot protect their citizens’ lives, do not matter if they cannot fulfill this basic “protect life” tenet. Thus, it is no wonder that people and businesses are fleeing the city, it is just not a safe place to be anymore.

And as people and businesses leave the city, the tax base and the tax revenue goes down. This results in higher taxes and fewer government services which drives more people out of the city. And this financial death spiral concept is why we still believe that Chicago will be the next major city to go bankrupt due to the ineptness of the politicians that have been running it.

2) The real estate company, Redfin, recently published a report that showed the ten cities across the country that Americans are most desperate to relocate out of:

  1. San Francisco
  2. Los Angeles
  3. New York City
  4. Washington DC
  5. Seattle
  6. Boston
  7. Detroit
  8. Denver
  9. Chicago
  10. Minneapolis
A quick sanity check of what these cities have in common in many ways should not surprise us:
  • All of these cities are in high tax states which are made worse by additional, onerous city and county taxes.
  • Crime rates, homicides, and violence have been rising sharply in many if not all of these cities.
  • Many of these cities implemented the inane “defund the police” theory which made their citizens less safe as police resources were reduced.
The quality of life has been declining for years in many of these cities e.g. San Francisco and Denver have made it not a crime to defecate, urinate or shoot up illegal drugs in their cities resulting in a horrible and unhealthy environment out in the streets.

People and businesses just want to be free to go through their existence, free from onerous taxes, onerous government regulations and to feel safe and secure in their homes and out in the streets. If those requirements are not met, they are going to execute plans to attain those goals, a trend that the Redfin data prove to be true.

And as we stated in the first point above, as residents and businesses leave an unsafe, highly taxed city, they take their tax base contributions with them which reduces a city’s tax revenue which means higher taxes and fewer government services which drives more people out of those cities and the financial death spiral is then in play.

The Redfin data proves this point when you look at the cities where these people are fleeing to:

1. Miami, FL
2. Tampa, FL
3. Phoenix, AZ
4. Sacramento, CA
5. Las Vegas, NV
6. Cape Coral, FL
7. San Diego, CA
8. North Port, FL
9. San Antonio, TX
10. Dallas, TX

What do these cities have in common:
  • Seven out of the ten cities are in states where there is no state income tax unlike the cities being fled listed above which are in states which all have that extra state income tax burden.
  • To my knowledge, these cities did not go through anywhere close, if at all, the defund the police craziness the cities like Chicago, NYC, and the others went through, which helped keep police resources available and on the job.
  • Many of these cities where people are heading to are in states with far fewer business regulation burdens than other states which makes them attractive to businesses and their employees.

People want to be free and safe. And will take matters into their own hands if those two principles cannot be met where they currently live. The Redfin data proves it.

4) I was a little surprised that Portland did not make the Redfin top ten list when it comes to residents leaving. The city has been racked by riots and lawlessness and a very big homeless population problem. Thai has resulted in highly frustrated residents as they try to keep themselves, their families, and their property safe:
  • The city is infested with broken down cars, piles of uncollected garbage, and RVs in residential areas of the city, much of which is driven by the homeless population.
  • A recent local TV news station recorded the despair of some of the city residents - Christinia Hartnett: “I want to cry. I just want my house back. My lawn is now becoming a public bathroom. I live in a nightmare neighborhood.”
  • Resident David Berkson: “It’s really scary.”
  • There are a whopping 1,900 homeless encampments just in a single Portland neighborhood.
  • “Tess” has lived in the same neighborhood for 35 years and told the TV news crew that she has had to install security cameras around her home and boarded up her front windows after they were smashed by some homeless people: “Scared because I don’t know what they’re going to do next.”
  • Cliff Pearce, an employee at the city’s Bucket Brigade Sports Bar and Restaurant, said that customers have to avoid people overdosing on drugs on the sidewalks in front of the bar.
  • Unfortunately, the political class and people running the city government appear clueless in how to fix the problem and provide the basic service of protecting the lives and property of its citizens.
  • For example, the city’s housing director, Shannon Callahan, is about to step down from that post but actually proclaimed the following tripe in anticipation of her leaving the job:“I can truly say that the work we do at Portland Housing Bureau, alongside our community partners and jurisdictional partners, changes lives for the better. It has been a privilege to work with the dedicated, passionate, and exceptional team of public servants at the bureau.”

Has she really changed lives for the better? I don’t think so. The homeless population has grown despite whatever policies she put in place and the crime and fear of the rest of the city seems to have grown substantially. So out of touch with reality in her own city.

Again, surprisingly Portland did not make the top ten list of cities where people are fleeing from given the failures of the local politicians.

5) But Seattle did make the bad top ten Redfin list and that should not be surprising. The city politicians for a number of years defiled their police department, disrespected them, criticized them and as a result a number of things have happened:
  •  So many people are getting out of Seattle because of safety and quality of life concerns that the city made the top ten of cities where people are leaving.
  • And the disrespect that local politicians have shown the Seattle police force has resulted in a crisis situation:
  • City police staffing levels have gotten so low that the city has had to put aside millions of dollars to bribe police officers to both stay on the force or join the force.
  • Over 400 police officers have left the police force over the past few years because of horrible working conditions and no support from city politicians.
  • Even the mayor admitted that the current depleted force has caused a crisis "where basic services cannot be delivered swiftly and effectively."
  • As of a few short months ago there were only 954 police officers on the city force, the lowest number in over 30 years.
  • A smaller force requires a lot more overtime and stress on current officers which lowers morale and which leads to more officers leaving the workforce.
All of which shows what a stupid idea defunding the police was, a concept that Seattle politicians implemented with a vengeance. As a result, the police force shrunk, police resources shrunk, crime skyrocketed and Seattle made the dubious top ten list of cities that most people want to flee from. Stupidity of politicians exists in the four corners of the country.

That will do it for today. People want to be free and be safe, businesses want their employees to be happy and be safe. Apparently, that message has not reached many politicians across the country and as a result, many of the nation’s largest cities are facing a mass out migration crunch that will make life more miserable, less safe, and more expensive for those that remain behind. And eventually, those cities will collapse into bankruptcy as their tax base dwindles and their population of productive citizens goes elsewhere.
