February, 2020, Part 5, Political Class Insanity: Bloomberg Lies, San Francisco Corruption, and A Senate Democrat Says Screw The Constitution

It is another month which means it is again time to review the latest political class insanity from Washington and around the world. Political class insanity takes many forms including the wasting of taxpayer wealth, criminal fraud within government programs, inane and stupid political quotes and actions, the inability to create and implement effective and efficient government programs, stupid and ill performing economic policies and strategies, and other forms of insanity that continue to evolve and surprise and shock us.

Let’s get started:

1) Over the recent past we have posted way too many posts on how screwed up San Francisco is. This is a city where it is now not against the law to defecate, urinate, or shoot up illegal drugs on the streets of the city. This is a city where they had to put together a five person hazmat cleanup team whose sole purpose is to go around the city daily and clean up human defecation and urination on the streets. They even have a phone app where citizens can notify them of locations where they need to come and clean up.

Well, it seems the guy in charge of this operation has gotten himself in a bit of a jam:

• The Public Works director of the city, Mohammed Nuru, has been arrested and is being held on a whopping $2 million bail.
• His arrest is a result of an FBI investigation.
• He named himself “Mr.CleanSF” on Twitter but apparently got his hands a little dirty when he first agreed to help the FBI in their investigation and then backed out of the agreement.
• He is being accused of accepting expensive gifts from a developer, offering up a bribe, and slipping a friend insider information.
• Given he was in charge of an annual $312 million budget, he was probably making some good money from a salary perspective but apparently that was not good enough.
• His alleged transgressions were enough to get multiple FBI agents involved who sought and got wiretaps, all of which resulted in a large bail figure so there is likely something foul smelling in this city, both literally and figuratively.

2) Mike Bloomberg is really, really rich. As a result he has decided that if he spends hundreds of millions of dollars, he may be able to buy his way to the Presidency. He has already spent almost $300 million of his own money with little results in the Democratic race for President. We have lamented how many hungry and homeless Americans that $300 million could have fed but that is a discussion for another day.

But Bloomberg is also a regular politician, having been mayor of New York City for three terms, besides being very rich and is certainly not below outright lies when it comes to political campaigning. In a recent ad he admonished Trump for putting illegal immigrants that sneak into this country in cages and how horrible Trump is. 

But there is a small problem. The video he used in the ad to prove Trump is inhumane turns out to be AP video footage from 2014 when Trump was not President, Obama was. Now, is Bloomberg that devious that he would lie to us or is he and his staff so inept that they did not check the vintage and date of the video footage? In either case, not a trait one wants for President, a pathetic liar or just plain incompetent.

3) We do not talk a lot about Hawaiian Senator Mazie Hirono, she is one of the quieter members of the Senate. But when she does talk, she almost always puts her foot in her mouth. We once reported that when she was asked how to increase voter turnout, she went into a detailed explanation that asserted that Democrats were smarter than the rest of us: “I wish I had the answer to that because one of the things that we, Democrats, have a really hard time is connecting to people’s hearts instead of [their heads]. We’re really good at shoving out all the information that touch people here [pointing to her head] but not here [pointing to her heart]. We have a really hard time doing that and one of the reasons, it was told to me at one of our retreats, was that we Democrats know so much. That is true. And we kind of have to tell everyone how smart we are and so we have a tendency to be very left brain.”Yeah, Senator, you Democrats are so smart. As I write this, Democrats in Iowa are trying to figure out how to add since they still don't know who won the Iowa caucuses last night. So smart. If you want other examples of her ineptness, just enter her last name in the search box above.But according to a recent article on the Freedom Outpost website by Alicia Luke, she apparently doesn't understand the Constitution and the rule of law or doesn’t care about either. According to the article, “Sen. Mazie Hirono said that she does not “care” about the “legal” and “constitutional defenses” that President Trump’s legal defense used during his Senate impeachment trial.So according to the Senator, if we do not like someone or someone is a political opponent we can just discard their legal and Constitutional protections and principles: “I don’t care what kind of nice, little, legal, Constitutional defenses that they came up with.” This is a sitting U.S. Senator saying screw the Constitution, we need to get rid of Trump despite his legal protections as a U.S. citizen and throw him out of office regardless of his defense or facts of the case.If this type of dangerous and stupid thinking does not smack of Orwell’s “1984” I do not know what does.So “Mr. Clean”in San Francisco gets his hands dirty, Bloomberg lies about illegal immigration, and a sitting U.S. Senator does not care about the principles of the Constitution. Insanity.

February, 2020, Part 4, Political Class Insanity: My Email To Nancy Pelosi

Madam Speaker:

I am 66 years old and:

- I have never voted for a Republican for President in my life.
- I did not vote for Trump.
- Rarely vote for a Republican for national office.
- When I lived in New Jersey I was a registered Democrat for a while.

Having said all that, your actions after the State of the Union message last night were disgusting and despicable. You ripped up the names and spit in the face of all of the Americans that were mentioned in the speech, from American heroes to Americans who suffered tremendous loss and tremendous success. You slapped the face of white and African Americans, of males and females, young and old. What possessed you to do such an evil, repugnant action? Is the hate in your heart so venomous that you would take it out on regular, real Americans? If this is what the Democratic Party represents today, then the points I made above are now null and void. I would never associate myself with such low life, childish behavior. You are an insult to your office and to the country.

February, 2020, Part 3, Political Class Insanity: Democrats Attack The First Amendment, Biden Like Illegal Immigrants More Than Americans and More

It is another month which means it is again time to review the latest political class insanity from Washington and around the world. Political class insanity takes many forms including the wasting of taxpayer wealth, criminal fraud within government programs, inane and stupid political quotes and actions, the inability to create and implement effective and efficient government programs, stupid and ill performing economic policies and strategies, and other forms of insanity that continue to evolve and surprise and shock us.

Let’s get started:

1) One thing that American politicians never to seem to understand is that we enjoy having the protection of the First Amendment, the ability to have freedom of speech unencumbered by restrictions that these same politicians want to put upon us. The First Amendment might be the greatest document ever written by humanity when it comes to freedom but that in no way stops politicians from wanting to pen it up, criminalize it, restrict, and eventually do away with it.

The latest example of this restriction of freedom comes from Democratic Presidential candidate Elizabeth Warren. Warren wants to “to create civil and criminal penalties for knowingly disseminating false information about when and how to vote in U.S. elections.” She also wants to put a national security expert in charge of sniffing out and punishing those who spread such information.

So many problems with this: 

• What criteria will be used to determine what is “false information” vs. just being misinformed?
• If a politician like Warren disagrees with your opinion, does that make it false and thus subject you to prosecution?
• Will there be degrees of false information dissemination, is one level a misdemeanor and one level a felony and who determines what the right level and punishment is?
• How is the national security expert to be selected and what will be their duties and restrictions vs. the First Amendment rights of every American?

Words like censorship, dictatorship, and George Orwell come to mind, allowing a politician to judge who is honest and who is a political opponent that needs to be shut down? Orwell warned us when he said,”Big Brother is watching.” We ignore his words and trust Warren, a politician who has a long history of lying, at our own risk.

2) But Warren is not the only politician that wants to restrict our freedom. Congressman Adam Schiff was the primary ring leader in the circus that was the impeachment of Trump. Even though Trump has not proven guilty of anything Schiff said in this opening statement to the Senate that the decision to remove Trump cannot be left to the election and voters exercising their First Amendment rights.

In other words, Trump’s political opponents need to take Trump out and cut tens of millions of Trump voters out of the equation and violate their Constitutional rights. Rush Limbaugh summed this idiocy quite nicely: “Meaning we can’t wait for the American people to decide because you people don’t know enough to throw the guy out. The Democrats have to be in charge of this. Your vote doesn’t count anymore.”

The hypocrisy of politicians has no end and no morals. Democrats are scared that they do not have an answer to the Trump Presidency, just looking at their leading candidates to be President can prove this point, and they have no trepidations about squashing our voting rights to get their political objectives satisfied. Pathetic and disgusting attack on freedom.

3) Not only Warren trying to take away our First Amendment rights but residents of the state of Virginia are having their First Amendment rights under attack by state politicians:

• State Democrats in the Virginia legislature have actually put together some potential legislation that would criminalize any criticisms of state politicians and government workers.
• Specifically the legislation states that “If any person, with the intent to coerce, intimidate, or harass any person, shall use a computer or computer network to communicate obscene, vulgar, profane, lewd, lascivious, or indecent language, or make any suggestion or proposal of an obscene nature, or threaten any illegal or immoral act, he is guilty of a Class 1 misdemeanor.”
• The legislation is specific who cannot be criticized and includes the governor, lieutenant governor, attorney general, and just about every other Virginia state official and politician.
• The wife of a Republican Virginia politician sums up this First Amendment attack: “Wow on cue, now they are after the 1A! Dems are trying to set up special rules exclusive to the Elite ruling class, to protect themselves from criticism! What is considered harassment? Is Governor Infanticide/KKK Hood trying to avoid being held accountable? Are we no longer allowed to demand justice for the alleged rape victims of LG Fairfax? This is some straight up communist censorship!”

A few days ago we discussed the incident involving New York Senator Chuck Schumer where he had a problem on a plane when an airline stewardess politely asked him to get off his cell phone so a plane could take off. After objecting to having to obey the rules that regular citizens are bound by, he called the stewardess a “bitch” for treating him like a regular customer. 

This mentality, rules and laws do not apply to politicians, is being reenacted in Virginia: we are above the law and the rules that apply to regular citizens, we need to be treated special. And in the process, they continue to trample the First Amendment.

4) In the latest example of how politicians care more about illegal immigrants than U.S. citizens, consider the criminal justice views of Joe Biden. In a recent interview Biden insisted that he would not deport illegal immigrants who are arrested and found guilty for drunk driving in this country. Yes, in his view it is not only okay for you to be here in this country illegally but if you get behind a wheel of a car while drunk and hurt or kill someone you can still stay in the country.

The reaction to this idiocy was swift including this response from Mothers Against Drunk Driving: “Drunk driving is the #1 killer on America’s roads that should be punished to the fullest extent of the law, regardless of the offender’s immigration status. MADD supports the victims of these crashes and their wishes in all drunk driving cases.”

That should do it for today: pompous politicians who do not want to be criticized, the attacks on the First Amendment and Biden continuing to coddle illegal immigrants.

February, 2020, Part 2, Political Class Insanity: The Insanity of a Minimum Wage Laws, Omar Maybe Married Her Brother and More

It is another month which means it is again time to review the latest political class insanity from Washington and around the world. Political class insanity takes many forms including the wasting of taxpayer wealth, criminal fraud within government programs, inane and stupid political quotes and actions, the inability to create and implement effective and efficient government programs, stupid and ill performing economic policies and strategies, and other forms of insanity that continue to evolve and surprise and shock us.

Let’s get started:

1) This first piece of insanity falls unto the “karma” category. Ilhan Omar is a first term Congresswoman from Minnesota. She has been a very vocal and hateful individual during her first term, showing herself to be very anti-Jewish, anti-Israel, and implying that anyone that has a different opinion of her is a racist. Obviously she is entitled to her opinion but it is my theory that if you spew hate about the world, fate/karma will eventually come get you:

• She is currently under investigation by the FBI for possibly marrying her brother to circumvent immigration laws of this country.
• A rumor to this effect has been circulating for a while but Omar always denied she had married her brother and attributed the rumor to, of course, a right wing conspiracy theory.
• Reports say that the FBI has documents that show she married Ahmed Nur Said Elmi, a British national, who was in reality her brother in order to get him a green card for entry into this country.
• Shortly after he got into the country they got a divorce.

She is obviously innocent until proven guilty but if she indeed married her brother it is a clear violation of existing law. Should be interesting to see if Pelosi, Nadler, Schiff, etc. look to impeach her and remove her from office since she is one of their kind, all Democrats.

2) The Wall Street Journal recently reported that Michael Bloomberg has already spent $300 million of his own money to run for President. For his $300 million he is still in fourth place and polls less than 10% in opinion polls.

Now, he may eventually win the Democratic nomination and he may actually become President. But the amount of money he is spending so far is obscene. Rather than spending this money for this vanity, ego boosting run for President this funding could have: 

• According to the Feeding America charity organization, on average it costs $2.94 to provide a homeless American a decent meal which means that Bloomberg’s $300 million could have provided two meals a day for an entire year to the entire homeless population in California.
• According to the government’s Drug Abuse website, on average, it costs $6,522 a year to help a drug addicted American to be treated for their addiction which means that Bloomberg’s $300 million could have been used to relieve the drug addiction suffering of almost 46,000 Americans for a year.
• The $300 million could have paid for about 57,000 Americans to have an Obama Care annual bronze health insurance policy.

Look, it’s his money he can do whatever he wants with it. But it is so sad that our political processes have gotten so screwed up that billions of dollars are spent every year on mostly failed political campaigns while millions of Americans are hungry, homeless, and drug addicted. 

3) Many of our more recent political class insanity posts have dealt with the myriad problems that are going down in California. From an obscene financial hole that state spending has resulted in to defecating, urinating, and shooting up drugs on city streets without any criminal penalties to raging homelessness to other problems too numerous to list, the very fabric of a civilized society seems to be bursting apart throughout the state.

Add to that chaos idiocy and stupidity that the San Francisco District Attorney dropped on the city’s police department:

• Radical leftist district attorney Chesa Boudin recently decided not to prosecute a person who slammed a bottle into a city police officer’s face while attacking two police officers.
• The attacker was shot and seriously wounded as a result of his attack on the officers.
• Needless to say that this withdrawal of charges did not sit well with the police officers throughout the city: “The District Attorney has informed me that at this time he will withdraw charges against the suspect,” Police Chief Bill Scott wrote to his officers Friday. “The DA indicated that this withdrawal is not a dismissal of the case. This unprovoked attack was a violent, criminal act. I want you to know that we remain committed to working with the DA to see that justice is done in this case for our officers.”
• In addition, Tony Montoya of the San Francisco Police Officers Association said, “Chesa Boudin just gave a green light to every criminal in San Francisco that it’s now OK to attack a police officer. He must be held accountable for his reckless decision that will further endanger every officer in San Francisco.”

If you do not prosecute people for defecating in the streets, you get more defecating in the streets. If you do not prosecute people for shooting up illegal drugs in the street, you get more people shooting up illegal drugs in the street. And if you do not prosecute those that violently attack police officers, you get more violent attacks on police officers. It is a pretty straightforward equation. But somehow that reality is lost on California politicians.

Thus it is no surprise that citizens and businesses are fleeing the state and why out-of-state organizations have begun pulling their conventions and business meetings from the state, it is just too crazy and dangerous.

4) Politicians do a lot of ignorant and stupid things but they seem to excel at totally not understanding simple economic theory and principles. One area where they constantly screw up is trying to force higher and higher wages on the market and the businesses that operate within that market. What usually happens is that many businesses cannot afford the higher wages politicians force on these businesses so these businesses do what they have to do to survive and be profitable:

1. They raise prices which wipes out some of the benefits of higher wages since local workers now have to pay higher prices in local restaurants, stores, movie theaters, etc.
2. They reduce the hours they afford to workers to make up for the higher wages they have to pay.
3. They find ways to operate more efficiently which usually involves mechanizing business functions that no longer require a human body to do.
4. They go out of business since they cannot absorb or adapt to the new, forced higher wage requirements.

In all of these cases, the workers who got the higher wages are very often worse off than before politicians interfered in the marketplace. In the worst case scenario it goes as follows: the good news is you got a pay raise, the bad news is that we had to eliminate your job because we cannot afford to pay you the pay raise.

These scenarios are now playing out at Target department stores:

• A few years ago the company announced it would get store workers to at least a minimum wage of $15 an hour by the end of 2020.
• But as the wages at Target have inched up over the years since then with the aim of getting to $15 an hour, people started seeing their work hours getting slashed.
• It is so bad that some employees are making less money than they did a few years ago even though they have a higher hourly wage now.
• Take the case of employee, Heather, who told CNN: “I got that dollar raise but I’m getting $200 less in my paycheck. I have no idea how I’m going to pay rent or buy food.”
• Other Target employees, Caren and Michael, also told CNN their hours were cut significantly.
• As a result of getting a higher and higher hourly wage but less hours she lost her health insurance, forcing her to quit her job, while Michael had to pick up a second job just to make ends meet because of his reduced hours.
• One of the drivers behind the fewer hours is that Target has begun deploying self checkout lines which require fewer employees and less expense, see point 3 above.
• A former store manager told CNN: “They really cut those hours back from them with the introduction of self-checkout.” 
• Also, by cutting back the hours to under 30 per week as the self checkout lines take over, the company saves even more money since they do not have to pay health benefits anymore.

So, everything was going along pretty good. People had good jobs in a clean and pleasant work environment, they were making enough money and getting enough work hours to pay their bills, they were getting health insurance from the company, and everyone, employees, management and stockholders, were happy. But along comes the class of politicians who are fixated on the $15 an hour mantra and as a result, employees are making less overall money despite a higher hourly wage, some had to quit, some had to take on another job, and many lost their health benefits. 

All because some politicians do not understand the basic economic principle that nothing is free in this world and all actions, good and bad, have a price and consequences. Nevertheless, they continue to force an artificially high wage on the market and the market, as always, reacts strongly and quickly.

That will do it for today: an alleged crooked Congresswoman, Bloomberg’s expensive folly and bad priorities, disrespecting police officers in California, and the pitfalls of the $15 livable wage myth continues to disrupt and have negative consequences for Americans.
