May, 2022, Political Class Insanity, Part 5: Political Class Failure In Chicago, New York City, and Washington

It is the beginning of another month which means it is time again to review the latest political class insanity from the American political class. Each month it takes us multiple posts to cover the wasteful spending, incompetent government organizations and employees, government programs that usually make a problem worse than resolving it, inane and idiotic politician comments, etc.

To review past posts on this insanity and idiocy, just click on the first few posts in each month listed to the right of this page. After reviewing just a handful of these insanity posts we think you will agree that we are currently being served by the worst set of American politicians ever to hold office in our entire history.

1) It was always our contention that a very, very basic function of any government entity is to protect the lives and property of its citizens. No matter how well the potlicial class executes other parts of their jobs, failure to protect citizens makes their tenure a failure.

And nowhere has this failure been so prevalent than in the city of Chicago. Every year, the violence in crime in the city continues to escalate and result in more and more deaths of innocent citizens. And the latest crime numbers from the city show that the local political class has STILL not figured out how to protect and serve its citizens:
  • During a recent weekend, 23 people in Chicago were shot.
  • Five of those shot died from their wounds.
  • One of those who died was standing in his kitchen when gunfire penetrated into his home.
  • These five deaths brought the total homicide total in the city to 195, about one and a half people murdered every day on average in Chicago.
More violence, more deaths and the current sitting politicians, including the mayor, Lori Lightfoot, continue to have no clue how to combat the death trend in the city, making them all a failure.

2) But it is not just Chicago that is experiencing a continuing and growing trend in violent crime:
  • New York City has suffered a substantial increase in violent crime in the city.
  • This has resulted in increased police and private security at luxury stores on Madison Avenue.
  • These increased security measures include high end stores locking their doors and dimming their lights during business hours.
  • NYPD reports that in the Madison Avenue precinct, burglaries are up 47% over last year and in the first four months or so there have been 470 theft reports, about four theft reports per day on average in just this single precinct.
  • According to the New York Post: “The shoplifters, who often go un-prosecuted under soft-on-crime Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg, are “just the tip of the iceberg” and “following orders” for a much larger crime syndicate, Bauer said.”
  • Additionally: “These gangs are more aggressive and violent than in years past,” the National Retail Federation reported in its 2021 security survey, noting that 69 percent of outlets witnessed an increase in organized retail crime over the past year.
  • Across the entire city, grand larceny is up 54%, shoplifting is up 81%, and petty larceny is up 42%.
Another example of the political class and the government it operates who cannot protect the lives or the property of its citizens. Insane.

3) At any time in this country there are millions of Americans who are homeless or hungry. We are setting records every year for Americans being killed by drug overdoses. Many families today cannot get vital baby formula for their young children. A lot of Americans are in need.

However, rather than use $2 million of taxpayer wealth to help those Americans in need, consider a higher priority that Washington politicians are focused on:
  • The American political class in Washington sent $2 million of our taxpayer wealth to the country of El Salvador as an anti-gang and anti drug cartel effort.
  • The money was used to fund the Police Athletic Outreach youth outreach program in that Central American country.
  • This program originated back in the 1970s with the supposed goal of reducing crime, illegal drugs, and the unstable government in Central America.
  • Since then the American taxpayer has spent a whopping $456.8 million on these drug reduction and prevention programs in other countries.
  • Since record amounts of illegal drugs are now streaming across the border, it is probably a safe bet that this half a billion dollars has not been effective.
  • But to add insult to injury, Washington decided to spend an additional $800,000 to research whether or not just this recent $2 million expense was effective.
Seriously, American kids in Chicago are getting gunned down in the city streets and inside their homes and Washington spent half a billion dollars on kids around the world? Washington spent half a billion dollars outside the country and has no idea if that half a billion dollars was spent wisely? How many homeless, hungry, and drug addicted Americans could have seen real positive improvements in their lives vs. a failed drug prevention program in Central America?

Bad and sad priorities. Of course, I would bet that some friends of Washington politicians, election campaign donors, got a huge chunk of these dollars as the use of taxpayer money to fund politicians reelection campaigns goes on, unimpeded.

Failed politicians in Chicago, failed politicians in New York, and failed [politicians in DC, failures to protect lives, property, and our tax dollars.
