Every month we devote posts to just general political class insanity that is running rampant through the country. The members of the American political class Far continue to show that they are incapable of efficiently operating any level of government in this country.
Even their best efforts are almost always ineffective at resolving any problem facing Americans. They spend a great amount of time not trying to improve the lives of their citizens but continually ensuring their reelection and enriching themselves, their families, and their friends in the process, all at taxpayer expense.
1)We have made the case countless times that it is highly likely that the Social Security program will eventually go bankrupt. It is now paying out more in benefits than it is collecting in taxes. Unless drastic action is taken soon then in about 8 years or so the so-called trust fund will be empty and if nothing changes, all Social Security recipients will see an immediate decrease of over 20% in their monthly payments.
The vast majority of Washington politicians that have recently served in Congress and the White House and those currently serving have neither the brains, the guts, or fortitude to do the right things to put the process on a fiscally sound basis. Thus, it is refreshing when a member of the Washington political class actually talks the truth about the dire conditions that the system is in:
Senator Tommy Tuberville finally went public with the concern that recent government reports show that the Social Security system has trillions of dollars in unfunded liabilities.
Specifically: "No, most people won't get Social Security. It's just unfortunate. It was a tax that was levied on the American people years ago, sold a bill of goods. Hey, we're going to take care of your retirement.”
This is especially bad news since it was recently reported that the average amount of savings that Americans say they will need to retire comfortably is $1.46 million, up more than 50% then what they thought was necessary in 2020 (I guess Biden’s failed and inflationary economic policies are to blame for that whopping increase).
In another report, it appears that all 50 state governments have not put away enough cash reserves to serve their future pension needs, about $21,000 shortfall for all current and future pensioners.
Oh, and by the way, including Social Security, Medicare, and other future Federal government debt and fiscal promises, the current tax stream will be about $93,100,000,000,000 short of its debt obligations.
More from the good Senator: "If you would have taken the money that you put in Social Security and put it in a 401k, it would have been worth 10, 15, 20, 30 times what it is today. It's unfortunate, this place up here. The federal government does not know how to handle your money, but they want more of it."
What a mess, a mess that is going to have significant impacts on the fiscal, health, and quality of life of tens of millions of Americans in a very short timeframe. And just about everyone in DC has neither the brains or willpower to make the difficult decisions to avoid this looming catastrophe.
2)We have also made the case many, many times that by allowing upwards of 8-9 million illegal immigrants to enter the country, immigrants that are un-vaccinated and un-vetted, that Joe Biden has put untold millions of American lives in danger from gangs, drugs, crime, and disease.
And given reports from the Centers For Disease Control (CDC), the disease aspect of Biden’s failed immigration policies is getting stronger:
As we previously reported, the city of Chicago, a final landing place of many, many illegal immigrants, is in the midst of a measles outbreak.
According to the CDC, 84% of the measles cases identified have occurred to illegal immigrants from Venezuela.
The remaining 16% of the cases in the city have come from illegal immigrants from Peru and Chile.
The CDC estimates that 72% of those infected with measles are un-vaccinated.
One of the very, very basic functions of any government entity is to protect the lives and property of the citizens they are serving. Obviously that tenet makes no sense to Joe Biden. Otherwise he would not have allowed 8-9 million of un-vaccinated and un-vetted illegal immigrants to enter the country and settle in among the citizens he is supposed to protect.
3)Biden has not only failed from an immigration perspective, but his economic policies are just as bad: higher food prices, higher energy prices, trillions added to the national debt, the list is pretty long including the most recent economic hardship he has imposed on the country:
A recent study found that in the country’s largest 50 metro areas, renting a home is now more cost effective than owning a home.
This is likely driven by the fact that a standard 30 year mortgage is now almost three times more expensive than it was when Biden took office.
This reality is not only hurting home sales but the negative impact sifts down into negative ramifications for housing construction, renovations, and other related industries.
This reality obviously puts a crimp in the American dream of owning one’s own home.
Bankrate, the study’s sponsor, estimates that it costs almost 37% more to own vs. renting.
Bankrate found that in those 50 metro areas, a median priced owned home of about $400,000 incurs a monthly cost of $2,703 vs. an average rental cost in those areas of $1,979, a 37% difference.
Another day, another sad tale of Biden’s economic policies.
4)As we stated above, a very, very basic government function is to protect the lives and property of the citizens it serves. Apparently, that function is not taken too seriously by the political class in Chicago:
According to a recent news report by NBC 5 in Chicago, a woman resident of the city recently had to scare off three potential home invaders that tried to rush into her home when she let her dog out.
She immediately called 911 to report the attempted robbery and the 911 operator told her to stay out of her home and wait for the police to respond.
After a while she called 911 again when the police did not show and ended up calling several times when no one came to help her.
On her seventh call she insisted on talking to a supervisor since the police had not shown up yet.
Her story continues in her words: “A gentleman got on and said sorry to say we have no units to send you…then there was an awkward pause. He also recommended I call my alderman and I said why – and he said encourage him to hire more police. The dispatcher also asked me if I would consider defending myself …if I had a weapon or considered getting one.”
It was not until FOUR HOURS later that police officers finally showed up, a totally unacceptable performance.
When NBC 5 spoke to the Chicago Police Department they said that her call was not prioritized relative to other 911 calls.
Another “defund the police” disaster. If a political class in a government entity cannot protect lives and property then whatever else they succeed in doing is not worthwhile if people die and lose their possessions. A four hour wait on a situation that could have gotten violent quite easily is a total failure of government services and the politicians that oversee those services.
Enough insanity for today: underfunded and understaffed Chicago police endanger its citizens, Biden’s failed economic policies continue to strain American household budgets and spread disease, and a Senator finally admits the obvious: Social Security is a bad deal that is getting worse every day while just about everyone in Congress and the White House have neither the intelligence or desire to fix the situation.
