One would hope that a member of Congress would appreciate the concept of freedom. That every American should be able to express and hold any opinion they want as long as it does not harm others or impede the right of others to have a different opinion no matter how much one disagrees with another American’s viewpoint.
But always, hoping that a member of Congress does the right thing is almost always a failure and disappoints the average American. Consider this recent anti-freedom, anti-First Amendment assertion by Michigan senator, Elissa Slotkin:
“I want to look at these signature cases, and not just focus on the president, but on the people who enabled him. I want young people coming out of school to say, should I go work for the Trump administration? Like, that sounds fun, I might get an opportunity. I want them to be like, Lord, that might be buying myself a ton of problems that I don’t want, and so let me avoid participating in that. I want that deterrence message sent.”
It is unbelievable that a member of Congress should be filled with so much hate, that they would threaten young Americans before they even choose what career path they may want to pursue. The following is my response via her official Senate email inbox:
Senator:
I am not a Trump voter and, in fact, I have never voted for a Republican President and I am 73 years old. However, I was appalled as a freedom loving American when in a recent interview you threatened to harass, prosecute and persecute young Americans who might want to consider a career in politics and who are Republicans.or a conservatives. That is Soviet Union/ dictatorship thinking, depriving Americans their First Amendment rights simply because they have a different opinion than you. Disgusting misuse of government resources, we are talking about Nazi like tactics to persecute those that you disagree with, much like the Nazis went after Jews backing 1930s Germany.
Democrats like yourself are so quick to invoke fascism and Nazism when in fact this type of attitude you showed is exactly what your types accuse others of. Appalling, disgusting, despicable, these words do not capture my disappointment that a sitting member of Congress would have such contempt for regular American citizens. It is trash talk like this that will likely force me to vote Republican the next time around, at least they are not going to go after young Americans' career choices.
I cannot add anything more. Just more hate from within the liberal wing of the American political class.
