January, 2025, Part 10, Political Class Insanity: New Jersey Senator Goes To Prison, Condoms For Gaza, Americans Are Struggling Financially and More

 Every month we devote posts to just general political class insanity that is running rampant through the country. The members of the American political class continue to show that they are incapable of efficiently operating any level of government in this country.


Even their best efforts are almost always ineffective at resolving any problem facing Americans. They spend a great amount of time not trying to improve the lives of their citizens but continually ensuring their reelection and enriching themselves, their families, and their friends in the process, all at taxpayer expense.


1)We have talked about this political corruption before but this episode has finally came to an end:


  • Bob Menendez was once a long term U.S. Senator from New Jersey.

  • He was convicted of 16 counts of corruption and bribery for shady dealings with the Egyptian government which led to the FBI finding almost half a million dollars in cash and many gold bars in his home.

  • As a result of his conviction, a judge recently sent him off for 11 years in prison.

  • He claimed he was innocent and blamed Biden for political lawfare.


Whatever happened, for the first time in a long time a corrupt politician is facing real penalties for his corruption. It’s a good day but many more crooked politicians also need to meet the same fate.


2)We have talked about absolutely stupid wastes of taxpayer dollars over the years including some real disgusting wastes during the Biden Presidency. Taxpayer money was sent overseas to support LGBTQ+ programs around the world. He sent about $200 billion to the Ukranains to fight the Russians, 50% of which has been possibly lost to corruption.


But the latest news out of the Biden administration may be the most inane and disgusting waste of taxpayer money:

  • This waste of taxpayer money involved Biden allocating $50,000,000 that was focused on condom distribution in Gaza.

  • Let me say that again so it really sinks in: with millions of Americans homeless, hungry, in need of medical care, and struggling to survive, Biden wanted to spend $50 million on condoms for Gaza.

  • Not only was this a stupid effort, condoms for Gaza, but apparently the terrorist group running Gaza, Hamas,, repurposed the condoms to help deliver IED devices that they then floated into Israel where the IEDs did extensive and expensive damage to schools, farmland, and infrastructure.


Thus, the program was not only a stupid waste of taxpayer dollars but it caused millions of dollars in damage to a U.S. ally.


3)More data became available recently which shows how devastating Biden’s failed economic policies were and still are:


  • A news survey from Bankrate found that 59% of respondents could not afford an unexpected $1,000 expense.

  • Think about the precarious situation these folks are in: if they need major car repairs, a new kitchen appliance, a medical  emergency, they are in dire financial straits.

  • In other words, given Biden’s inflation policies the majority of Americans are living paycheck to paycheck.

  • Since Biden took office, egg prices are up 182%.

  • Since Biden took office, ground beef prices are up 41%.

  • Since Biden took office, chicken prices are up 30%.

  • Since Biden took office, milk prices are up 18%.


Thus, it is no surprise 59% of Americans are struggling financially.


4)So, up above we talked about how the Federal government squandered $50 million on condoms for Gaza. While that is horrific, it doesn't compare to the ineptness and waste of the following Federal government project:


  • The Federal government is working on building a new Air Force One jet for Presidential travel.

  • The  delivery date for the new jet has been  pushed back  to 2029  despite the fact that this effort began way back  in 2018.

  • The jet was supposed to be delivered by 2024 at a cost of $3.9 billion but the date has obviously slipped five years and the price tag is already up to $5.3 billion.

  • Boeing, the contractor for the jet, has already absorbed over $2 billion in cost overruns.

  • Since the plane has not been  totally built yet and the delivery is four years away, you know that that $5.3 billion cost is going to go even higher.


Wow, who would have expected it, a major government project that will not meet both its delivery schedule and its budget? Everyone.


5)Wasteful spending and non-delivery is not restricted to Federal government projects:


  • Six years ago, in  2019, the city of Albuquerque, New Mexico spent $4 million on solar panels.

  • The plan was to install these solar panels on seven municipal government buildings.

  • However, six years later many of these 1,000 solar panels have not been installed and are just laying about.

  • Even  worse, the panels that were actually installed on two buildings have never worked.

  • Panels on  another building are functioning only 6% of their capacity.

  • The original plan in 2019 was to have ALL of Albuquerque’s government buildings being powered by 100% renewable energy by 2025.

Another government project that cost a lot and never got fully implemented, great.

In summary: an  American politician is going to jail for a long time, the “Condoms For Gaza” program was stupid to begin with and was just a wasteful, inane idea, Americans are struggling to survive and pay basic expenses, and government projects never seem to be on schedule and on budget, be it a new Presidential plane or a few solar panels in New Mexico.

The Financial Death Spiral Gathers Steam In Chicago and California

 Whether people realize it or not, there is a great migration movement sweeping the country. People and businesses are leaving high taxation, high government regulation and high crime states and cities for safer cities and states with higher quality of life attributes. 


This migration of residents and businesses out of cities and states results in a reduction in the tax base which reduces government revenue which results in lower government service quality and higher tax rates which causes more residents and businesses to leave and the financial death spiral is in place. Where the death spiral ends is yet to be determined but it will not be pretty.


1)We have often talked about the failure of the Chicago political class to protect the lives and property of the results of that city. Chicago has no clue how to reduce crime and violence. Chicago violence, crime, and homicide rates continue to climb to ever higher rates and the local politicians seem to have no solution on how to fix the problem.


As a result, residents of the city, and the rest of Illinois, continue to flee the city for safer and less taxing areas. Boeing recently moved their Chicago headquarters to Washington D.C. Caterpillar recently announced it will be moving its headquarters to Texas. A major investment company, Citadel, recently announced it is moving its operations to Miami since the owner of the investment firm says he no longer wants to expose his employees to the violence of Chicago.


And the out migration continues:


  • The owner of 13 Chicago businesses has decided that he no longer wanted to expose his employees to the violence of Chicago.

  •  Gary Rabine is the owner of the businesses and finally gave up on the city to protect the safety of his employees.

  • Specifically: “We would do thousands of jobs a year in the city, but as we got robbed more, my people operating rollers and pavers we got robbed, our equipment would get stolen in broad daylight and there would usually be a gun involved, and it got expensive and it got dangerous.” 

  • The violence and crime against his employees and property has caused his operating costs to more than  double for additional security and insurance expenses.

  • More from Mr. Rabine: “What happened eventually is we said enough is enough. We stopped doing work down there, we stopped doing work for the gas company, the electric company, the south side, the west side, and eventually all over Chicago. Those companies now work in other places. They work over the border in Wisconsin, the outer suburbs of Chicago, where they feel safer. If you want a great culture in your company, you have to have people that love being on the team and they don’t want to live in a violent area. They don’t want to live in a place where their kids can’t walk to school safely and their wives and kids can’t go shopping in a beautiful environment like Michigan Avenue, which was once the safest place you could ever go shopping.” 


We have often claimed that a very, very basic function of any government entity is to protect the lives and property of its residents and businesses. Failure on this function renders anything else a government entity does moot and insignificant. Which means that Chicago politicians continue to be a failure and insignificant.


2)Regarding the withdrawal of the Citadel investment business out of the city referenced above:


  • Hedge fund billionaire, Ken Griffin, recently announced that he was relocating his investment firm to Miami to get away from the violence of Chicago.

  • Griffin is worth $29 billion and has been a long term charity donor having donated hundreds of millions of dollars over the years to causes in Chicago and the state of Illinois, donations that are now in danger.

  • Griffin has previously referenced the high rate of violent crime in Chicago: “If people aren’t safe here, they’re not going to live here,” he said of the state of affairs. I’ve had multiple colleagues mugged at gunpoint. I’ve had a colleague stabbed on the way to work. Countless issues of burglary. I mean, that’s a really difficult backdrop with which to draw talent to your city from.”


People want to be free: free from high taxes, free from over regulating government, and free to be safe in their lives and businesses. Obviously, that is not happening in the crime ridden, ineptly ruled city of Chicago and state of Illinois.


3)But Chicago is not the only place in the country where people and businesses are moving to safer, less taxing locations to improve their quality and safety of life. We have previously discussed the reality that many large and small businesses have been fleeing the high crime, high taxation state of California. These fleeing companies have included Tesla, Toyota, and Charles Schwab. 


And the out migration has not stopped:


  • Chevron recently announced that it is moving its California headquarters to Texas, a state with low taxes and a very favorable business environment, the exact opposite of California.

  • It announced that it will be paying the relocation costs of some employees.

  • The move comes after being located in California for 140 years so it was obviously not a move taken lightly.

And the latest news from Chicago and California prove that the death  spiral theory is still valid and in place in Chicago and California. The race to bankruptcy should be a hoot to follow.

June, 2022, Part 5, Political Class Insanity: Biden's Slipping Cognitive Ability, Biden's Failing Presidency, and Ignorance In Illiinois

It is the beginning of another month which means it is time again to review the latest political class insanity from the American political class. Each month it takes us multiple posts to cover the wasteful spending, incompetent government organizations and employees, government programs that usually make a problem worse than resolving it, inane and idiotic politician comments, etc.

To review past posts on this insanity and idiocy, just click on the first few posts in each month listed to the right of this page. After reviewing just a handful of these insanity posts we think you will agree that we are currently being served by the worst set of American politicians ever to hold office in our entire history.

1) As we have discussed so many times over the years, people in government, be they government bureaucrats or the politicians that oversee government operations, never seem to have the brain power to fix what they often have broken. Name one thing that the Federal government does well, efficiently, and effectively and I could name dozens of other efforts that are abject failures.

We are living through one of those failures now. We are in the midst of an inflationary spiral that we have not experienced since the Carter Presidency over 40 years ago. And, as usual, the Presidential administration currently running things has no clue how to fix the problem:
  • Jennifer Granholm is Biden’s Secretary of Energy.
  • Obviously, you would hope she would be part of the solution when it comes to the fact that gas prices have more than doubled since Biden became President.
  • In a recent interview on CNN, she decided to distract the country from the reality of $5.00 gas per gallon with the following nonsensical comparison: “If you were in Brazil, you’d be paying the same amount for gas at the pump — over $5. If you were in Canada, you’d be paying over $6. If you were in Germany, you’d be paying over $8. So this is happening around the world.”
  • But most places around the world do not have the energy source potential and multitude of energy options that we have in this country.
  • And many places are paying far less than what we are paying today.
  • And really, Madame Secretary, who cares what the rest of the world is paying, what people in Brazil are paying?
  • We only care what we are paying and obviously you have no solution to fix what Biden has broken, rather than coming up with solutions you are coming up with inane and stupid comparisons to cover up your incompetency.
  • Or as what the CNN interviewer asked: “Understood, secretary. We’re talking about the United States, though. We’re talking about the United States right now and what the president can do.”
But we shouldn't expect anything more from this failed government employee. She had previously blamed OPEC for the high gas prices, just like the failed Carter administration did back over 40 years ago.

2) But this blaming someone else for your problem syndrome is not surprising. Biden was Vice President when Obama blamed everyone in the world for his inability to get anything done, e.g. it was Bush’s fault, it was automation’s fault, it was Bush’s fault, it was the Japanese tidal wave’s fault, it was Bush's fault.

And apparently Biden continues on the “it’s not my fault” trend. With inflation at 40 year highs, with gas prices more than doubling during his short tenure in office, with food prices making it difficult for families to feed their kids, Biden refuses to accept responsibility for this disaster.

According to the Washington Post, a liberal, far left wing news organization that rarely criticizes any Democrat: “Biden has privately grumbled to top White House officials over the administration’s handling of inflation, expressing frustration over the past several months that aides were not doing enough to confront the problem directly.”

A President that blames everyone else, like his aides, for the problems he either created or cannot resolve is not a leader, he is a child blaming the dog for eating his homework. Be it Obama, Biden, Granholm, or most others in Washington, they all have rarely come across a problem that is their fault or a problem they can resolve.

3) It is our opinion that Biden continues to be in the midst of a significant cognitive decline. Whether it is dementia, senility, or whatever, his actions and words do not encourage confidence that he has the ability to lead, resolve problems, or show any empathy for Americans on an individual basis or national basis. Listening to him struggle to explain anything is painful and again, does not inspire confidence.

During a recent event he tried to offer condolences to a family who had just lost a beloved family member. In typical Biden manner, he completely botched his words relative to the deceased individual: “My sympathies to the family of your… uhhh… CFO who dropped dead very unexpectedly.”

Pretty heartless and cold thing to say to the family sitting in front of him. He did not even have the decency, or maybe did not have the ability, to show empathy and be prepared to say more than “...uhhh….CFO who dropped dead very unexpectedly.” This sentiment and stupidity was so bad that his deaf signer dropped her hands and stopped translating his words into sign language, that is how awful his statement was.

The Internet was quick to pick up on how cold hearted and bad his behavior was in yet another embarrassing string of embarrassments:
  • “What’s the American sign language sign for ‘dropped dead’?”
  • “What an asshole”
  • “Shame on anyone who put this man in charge and doesn’t regret it”
  • “This and Pelosi mentions that we’re at war with Iraq…Say it with me people ..Term Limits “Look at how compassionate this man is. Blessed he’s at the helm. LOL”
  • “I mean with these markets, who’s CFO wouldn’t just drop dead?”
  • “This is quite the masterclass on statesmanship and decorum no?”
  • “I can hardly make it through the cringe in these clips of Biden.”
  • “This is the guy who represents us on the world stage.”
  • “Yesterday Karine Jean-Pierre was appalled that anyone would question Joe’s mental abilities lmao”
  • “I know we say this all the time, but imagine if Trump spoke like this, how the media would cover it” “One More Unacceptable Absurd Insane Leftist Moment In The Obama Puppet Master World We Live In”
  • “Just when you think you can’t be shocked by this idiot anymore you get this. Unbelievable!! Hahahaha”
  • “So, Bo and your previous wife, “dropped dead?” Ignorant career insensitive politician.”
  • “What a shitty way to phrase say that. I voted for this guy.”
  • “If anyone is curious we our country is currently up sh*t creek, watch this newest video of our dually selected President”
  • “Can you imagine he drop dead suddenly tough stuff” How are people even listening to this geriatric dementia ridden gravy brain”

4) We have often discussed the reality that states with high government taxes, massive government regulation, high current and future debt levels, high cost of living levels, high crime rates, and inept politicians are quickly losing residents and businesses to other states.

This out-migration of people and businesses continue to reduce those states’ tax bases, thus reducing tax revenue, resulting in less government services and more ineffective government services. The most egregious states guilty of abusing their residents and businesses continue to be Illinois, California, New York, and New Jersey. These states are at the beginning of a financial death spiral, as we discussed in detail at the following link:


But despite the realities of this out-migration, local politicians continue to not grasp the reality that their actions are causing the high cost of living, the high taxes, the high crime rates etc. And as a result of their ignorance, they are unable to change the migration patterns and are continually surprised when it continues to happen:
  • Heavy equipment operator, Caterpillar, has had its corporate headquarters in the state of Illinois for a very long time.
  • The company recently announced that it is moving its corporate headquarters out of the state and relocating it to low tax, business friendly, low crime Texas.
  • And yet, Illinois Senator Tammy Duckworth was shocked at the announcement: "I’m shocked and disappointed by Caterpillar’s decision to move its HQ from Illinois. While this will only directly affect about 1.5 percent of IL-based employees, I'll keep working to encourage Caterpillar to preserve jobs and follow through on its promise to hire even more Illinoisans."
  • This move comes on the heels of Boeing announcing that it was also moving its corporate headquarters out of Illinois.
  • Illinois Congressman, Jim Durkin, seems to be one of the few politicians associated with Illinois who gets it: "I’ve heard it once, I’ve heard it a thousand times of what these manufacturers are paying and there’s really little for them to do. They’re getting no relief from local governments nor from the state. … When it comes back to it, it’s the cost of doing business in Illinois."
A recent survey of 700 CEOs recently rated Texas as the best state for business while it rated Illinois as the 48th best state for business. Thus, it should not be a surprise that companies, like residents, will flee to states where government and politicians make life difficult and expensive. But somehow it is always a surprise for out of touch politicians.

That will do it for today: out of touch politicians, a failing Biden Presidency and a failing President’s cognitive ability.
