Even though we have spent a lot of our recent posts discussing how DOGE and Trump are identifying and eliminating stupid and wasteful spending of the Federal government. However, that does not mean that the American political class had stopped doing stupid and inane things, be it wasting taxpayer wealth, enriching themselves and family members, implementing stupid government programs, etc.
We usually called these failures “political class insanity.” Thus, let’s catch up on the insanity that American politicians have continued to indulge in:
1)It seems just about everyday there is another DC politician redirecting or just plain taking money that does not belong to them:
California Congresswoman, Maxine Walters, is the latest alleged culprit of another politician's self enrichment scheme.
After an investigation by the Federal Election Commission, Maxine Walters has agreed to pay a $68,000 fine as a result of her violating several election rules.
These violations occurred during her 2020 reelection campaign.
Her campaign accepted excessive campaign contributions from seven people totalling $19,000 even though the lawful cap is $2,800.
The campaign was also found guilty of making “four prohibited cash disbursements.”
As always, it is good news that this violation of law was caught and restitution was made. The bad news is that we have no idea how much of this type of graft continues to go on in Congress that does not get caught and prosecuted.
2)Several years ago, in East Palestine, Ohio, there was a very serious railroad derailment that resulted in dangerous chemical gases being released into populated areas. The Biden administration, despite having a whole Transportation Department, seemed to ignore the disaster which risked the lives and health of local residents and animals:
Seven months after 115,000 gallons of toxic vinyl chloride burned in the East Palestine area, Biden finally issued an executive order related to the situation.
The order sent FEMA executive Jim McPherson to the area to assess the local area’s unmet needs since many local residents were sickened by the derailment.
As a result of the Freedom of Information Act, government documents showed that various government organizations (FEMA, the White House, the EPA, the DOJ and the National Security Council) all had serious concerns about health, toxins and the unmet health needs of local residents even though the Biden administration continued to insist that everything was just fine, no need for concern.
Lesley Pacey of the Government Accountability Project was able to get access to the government documents: “It showed that FEMA knew health care was the No. 1 issue. They also knew that they called this plume a really toxic plume. They knew that there would be the potential for cancer clusters. It was only discussed internally, and it actually was discussed all the way up to the White House. There’s White House officials and National Security Council officials discussing the dangers of the cancer cluster potential and the health issues and discussing whether or not to release the unmet needs report to the public and to the media.”
The results and concerns were never released.
Also, the FEMA director who went to the disaster site never met with any local residents to get their experiences and concerns.
So sad that government officials, whose only priority should be the safety and welfare of the citizens they serve and who are paying their government salaries, would lie and deny the dangers that they helped cause.
3)There is little doubt that the Biden Presidency was one of the worst, if not the worst, in many, many decades. Failed economic programs, failed illegal immigration problems, failed foreign diplomacy efforts, rampaging inflation, the sowing of hate in the country, escalating crime rates, etc.
For anyone that was caring, observing, and not hating Trump, it was obvious that Biden was in significant cognitive decline from Day One of his Presidency. Whether it was dementia or other mental malady, he was not capable of being the most powerful person in the world, leading the most powerful country.
Many, many times we have discussed instances of his behavior that constantly reinforced the reality of his cognitive decline. And now, a whistle blower has revealed yet another example of why he never should have been President:
A Secret Service whistle blower recently revealed to Senator Josh Hawley that Biden got so disoriented while in office that he literally would “get lost in his closet.”
The whistler blower was part of Biden’s security detail.
According to Hawley: “He told me that Biden used to get lost in his closet in the mornings at the White House. The President of the United States. This is outrageous.”
Investigators in Congress have launched several inquiries into how out of touch Biden was during his Presidency and who was making the decision that affected the world.
At least one of those inquiries will question Biden’s personal doctor and try to find out whether the doctor covered up Biden’s declining mental capability.
He got lost in his own closet and yet we are supposed to believe he was able to lead the country? Seriously?
4)We have not checked in with the murder, violence, and mayhem on the streets of Chicago for a while. As readers of this blog know, we have constantly pointed out how the political class in the city, its county, and its state have for many years failed miserably to provide a safe environment for city residents.
And it seems that situation has not changed despite changes in city government politicians:
During a Memorial Day weekend, 24 people were shot on the streets of the city.
Three of those 24 who were shot died form their wounds.
And yet, the current city mayor, Brandon Johnson, thought this was good news since “only” 24 people got shot, less than previous years during the same time period.
Specifically: “Violence is down in Chicago. Violence is down in Chicago. We are saving lives. We are investing in people, building the safest, most affordable, big city in America. It’s not a tagline; that’s an actual objective of mine.”
Despite the mayor’s claim, 139 city residents have been killed in the first five months of this year.
So yes, the murder rate is down but it is still high. The amount of violent crime is down but it is still high. In fact, both of those realities are still worse than the same crime measure in most other major cities including New York and LA. The problem is not solved, it is in decline but it is far from “the safest, most affordable big city in America.” Not even close.
That will do it for today’s insanity: another member of Congress gets caught in a corruption scheme, Biden lied to Ohioans and endangered their lives, Biden gets lost in his own closet, and Chicago is still not safe.
