How American Liberals and The Washington Political Class Created Trump Mania

Unless you have been living under a rock lately, you probably know that Donald Trump has been very successful in gathering Republican delegates in his quest to become President of the United States. This has upset many people, media types, politicians, and pundits all along the traditional political spectrum. And upset is actually a pretty tame description given how crazy and out of their minds some people, especially liberals, are going.

Many of them, liberals, are having trouble dealing with the reality that someone so non-politically correct as Trump might become President. Many of them are having trouble dealing with the reality that someone who is so honest might actually become President. Many of them are having trouble dealing with the reality that a non-politician might actually become President. Many of them are having trouble dealing with the reality that someone so arrogant and crude might actually become President. Many of them are having trouble believing the reality that anyone could actually support someone like Trump. The whole situation repulses them, throws them into a tizzy that blows their minds.

But while liberals are going nuts over the Trump phenomenon, they fail to get underneath what is actually driving that phenomenon. Trump has somehow tapped into a strong undercurrent of unrest, resentment, disgust, and rebellion that is brewing in this country. According to one Gallup poll, over 70% of Americans view the current political class in Washington as corrupt. Another Gallup poll found that 69% of Americans view “big government” as the biggest threat to the country. Trump is neither a member of the political class or a member of big government, he is viewed as an outsider, one who might actually be independent enough to overcome these poll results and the disgust they represent.

But I think there is something more subtle also going on beyond the what these polls reveal.

A lot of Americans have kept their mouths shut over the past seven plus years of the Obama administration despite a tidal wave of insults and slurs from liberals and many Washington politicians that have been cast out against anyone who dared to have a different position on the issues than them. They have had to endure crudity and obscenities and they stood by quietly and absorbed the blows.

But along comes Trump and these Americans have found someone that seems to understand them, that that seems to understand how tens of millions of Americans have been slandered by liberals and Democrats for years. Someone who seems to understand that the President of the United States stood silently by, giving at least his tacit acceptance, as common American citizens and politicians with a different and legitmate position were viciously pummeled by his political allies.

Which leads to the following theory: the Trump phenomenon was created by and fed by liberals, Democrats, and the President of the United States. It was also fed by ordinary citizens who stood silently on the sidelines as their friends, family members, and neighbors were obscenely attacked and slandered by liberals and Democrats over the past seven years. To prove my point, especially the point where the President purposely allowed Americans to be personally and obscenely attacked, take the following quiz:

When the campaign manager of Democrat’s Jerry Brown’s gubernatorial campaign called his Republican opponent, Meg Whitman, a whore, Obama was silent. Were you silent also?

When TV host Montel Williams publicly hoped that Republican Congresswoman Michele Bachman would commit suicide by decapitating herself, Obama was silent. Were you silent also?

When Ed Schultz, an on air commentator for the Democratic leaning MSNBC news channel, called Laura Ingraham of Fox News a slut, Obama was silent. Were you silent also?

When HBO TV host Bill Maher, a major donor to Obama’s 2012 Presidential Super PAC, said on air that Republican Sarah Palin “would f*** Rick Perry if he was black,” Obama was silent. Were you silent also?

When Bill Maher called Republican Sarah Palin disgusting and derogatory female anatomical names that I will not repeat here, Obama was silent. Were you silent also?

When Playboy magazine’s online website offered a detailed analysis on why and how each of ten Republican women in politics should be hate raped, Obama was silent. Were you silent also?

When a rap artist gave a Minnesota concert that was billed as the “F*** Michele Bachman” concert (spelling out the entire f-word), a Republican Congresswoman from Minnesota, Obama was silent. Were you silent also?

When a Democratic operative insulted Ann Romney, and millions of other American women, by slandering and demeaning her as a stay at home mother, Obama was silent. Were you silent also?

When Democrat Speaker Of The House Nancy Pelosi called opponents to Obama Care unpatriotic for simply having a difference of opinion with many politicians in Washington, Obama was silent. Were you silent also?

When Democrat Charles Rangel slandered millions of ordinary Americans who opposed Obama Care by calling them racists for simply having an honest difference of opinion with many politicians in Washington, Obama was silent. Were you silent also?

When Democrat Shelia Jackson Lee slandered ordinary Americans who opposed Obama Care by associating them with the Ku Klux Klan, Obama was silent. Were you silent also?

When White House czar Van Jones called all Republicans a**h***s, Obama was silent. Were you silent also?

When Louis Farrakhan said in Miami last year that the time has come for 10,000 black volunteers to step forward to kill white Americans, Obama was silent. Were you also silent?

When Democrat Alan Grayson called all Republicans knuckle dragging Neanderthals, Obama was silent. Were you silent also?

When union boss and Democratic supporter Jimmy Hoffa, Jr. stated that his union was at war with the Republicans and Tea Party and that those people "need to be taken out," Obama was silent. Were you silent also?

When Democratic Congressmen Mike Doyle and Henry Waxman and Vice President Joe Biden slandered ordinary Americans opposed to unfettered and destructive government spending and debt by calling them terrorists (those people that bomb and kill and innocent civilians), Obama was silent. Were you silent also?

When ordinary Americans objected to the building of a Islamic mosque near the World Trade Center property because of the horrible memories of 9-11 and Democrat Nancy Pelosi said THEY should be investigated for simply having an opinion on the mosque, Obama was silent. Were you silent also?

When Democratic Congressman Steve Cohen likened Republican critics of Obama Care to the Nazis and their propaganda minister Joseph Goebbels, Obama was silent. Were you silent also?

When Democratic Congresswoman Maxine Walters said ordinary American citizens can go to hell simply for having a difference of opinion with her, Obama was silent. Were you silent also?

When Martin Bashier of leftist MSNBC News showed a video of Mitt Romney’s campaign bus that was interspersed with video clips of buses blowing up in balls of fire, explicitly wishing that the Romney bus also blow up and those inside die a fiery death, Obama was silent. Were you silent also?

When Martin Bashier of leftist MSNBC News said someone should defecate into Sarah Palin’s mouth, Obama was silent. Were you silent also?

When liberal Professor Richard Parncutt of the University of Graz said he wanted to execute other human beings that are global warming deniers for simply having a different opinion than his and Obama's on global warming, Obama was silent. Were you silent also?

When liberal newspaper columnist Donald Kaul wrote an article for the Des Moines Register where he called for the killing of gun owners and “dragging legislators who disagree with gun control behind pickup trucks until they get the message,” Obama was silent. Were you silent also?

When liberal Erik Loomis, PhD, assistant professor of history at the University of Rhode Island decided that he wanted the death of National Rifle Association (NRA) CEO Wayne LaPierre, branding the gun rights group he heads as a terrorist organization: "[I] want Wayne LaPierre's head on a stick," Obama was silent. Were you silent also?

When Karen Lewis, head of the Chicago Teachers’ Union shared some violent rhetoric of her own: “Do not think for a minute that the wealthy are ever going to allow you to legislate their riches away from them. Please understand that. However, we are in a moment where the wealth disparity in this country is very reminiscent of the robber baron ages. The labor leaders of that time, though, were ready to kill. They were. They were just – off with their heads. They were seriously talking about that,” Obama was silent. Were you silent also?

When liberal Elizabeth Ashack, an economist at the Department of Labor, said that all Christians are Nazis, Obama was silent. Were you silent also?

When Democratic Indiana state representative Vanessa Summers publicly stated that a fellow legislator’s 18 month old son was a racist, Obama was silent. Were you silent also?

When Bernie Sanders said that any American believes that the Social Security process is hurtling towards insolvency (which it is) is a liar, Obama was silent. Were you silent also?

When Democratic activist Sarah Noble said that all men should die or get f***ed, Obama was silent. Were you silent also

Maybe now you see that if someone was constantly being called a whore, a slut, an a**h***, a racist, a member of the KKK, a liar, a racist, unpatriotic, a terrorist, derogatory female body parts, a Neanderthal, and a Nazi, they might be attracted to a Presidential candidate that seems to understand their frustrations.

Maybe now you see that if someone was constantly being told to kill yourself, f***yourself, die in a bus crash, just die, have someone defecate in your mouth, go to hell, get hate raped, get taken out, and get decapitated, they might be attracted to a Presidential candidate that seems to understand their frustrations.

Additionally, maybe now you see that if someone was constantly being blamed for events that happened long before they were born and long before their family even came to this country, that someone was being blamed for the ills of the world because they were born a certain skin color, that someone should be killed for simply being white, and that you achieved success in life not because of your hard work and efforts but because of an inane concept called “white privilege,” they might be attracted to a Presidential candidate that seems to understand their frustrations.

And if your answers to the quiz above were that you also remained silent as your neighbors, family members, and friends were being attacked by politicians, media types, and others, then you along with Obama helped create the Trump phenomenon. So stop fretting about Trump, stop lashing out to those that are supporting Trump, stop being part of the problem, stop casting and supporting the insults and slander, and start being part of the solution.

Insist that the personal attacks stop and set an example by discussing only the issues and not the looks or intelligence of those that have a different opinion than you. Insist that your political representatives do the same. Otherwise you are part of the problem, you are part of the divisiveness in the country, you created the mania that is Trump.

Hate Week, Part 5: The Summary ... And A Solution

Alright, we have gone through five days of political hate so let's summarize the examples we have uncovered. At the end of the list I think it will be pretty clear that the hateful speech, the slander, the slurs, and condescension is rampant and probably the main reason why politicians never get anything done. They are still reacting to the previous insult that was flung their way by a political opponent. making them too busy to actually do any governing:
  • Democrat Speaker Of The House Nancy Pelosi called citizens opponents to Obama Care unpatriotic for simply having a difference of opinion with many politicians in Washington.
  • Democrat Charles Rangel slandered millions of Americans who opposed Obama Care by calling them racists for simply having an honest difference of opinion with many politicians in Washington.
  • Democrat Shelia Jordan Lee slandered millions of Americans who opposed Obama Care by associating them with the Ku Klux Klan.
  • Union boss and Democratic supporter Jimmy Hoffa, Jr. stated that his union was at war with the Republicans and Tea Party citizens and that these people "need to be taken out."
  • Democratic Congressmen Mike Doyle and Henry Waxman and Democratic Vice President Joe Biden slandered American citizens opposed to unfettered and destructive government spending and debt by calling them terrorists (those people that bomb and kill innocent civilians).
  • When ordinary Americans objected to the building of an Islamic mosque near the World Trade Center property because of the sad memories of 9-11, Democrat Nancy Pelosi said THEY should be investigated for simply having a passionate opinion on the mosque.
  • Democratic Congresswoman Maxine Walters said all Tea Party American citizens can go to hell simply for having a difference of opinion with her.
  • The campaign manager of Democrat’s Gerry Brown’s gubernatorial campaign called his Republican opponent, Meg Whitman, a whore.
  • Democratic White House czar Van Jones publicly called all Republicans a**h****s.
  • Democrat Alan Grayson called all Republicans knuckle dragging Neanderthals.
  • Liberal TV host Montel Williams publicly hoped that Republican Congresswoman Michele Bachman would commit suicide by decapitating herself.
  • Ed Schultz, an on air commentator for the Democratic enforcers at the MSNBC news channel, called Laura Ingraham of Fox News a slut.
  • Liberal HBO TV host Bill Maher, a major donor to Obama’s 2012 Presidential Super PAC (a $1 million donor), said on air that Republican Sarah Palin “would f*** Rick Perry if he was black.”
  • Liberal Bill Maher called Republican Sarah Palin disgusting and derogatory body part names that I will not repeat here
  • Playboy magazine’s online website offered a detailed analysis on why and how each of ten Republican women in politics should be hate raped.
  • Democratic Congressman Steve Cohen likened Republican critics of Obamacare to the Nazis and their propaganda minister Joseph Goebbels.
  • A liberal rap artist gave a Minnesota concert that was billed as the “F*** Michelle Bachman” concert (spelling out the entire f-word), a Republican Congresswoman from Minnesota.
  • A Democratic operative insulted Ann Romney, and millions of other American women, by slandering and demeaning her as a stay at home mother.
  • Martin Bashier of MSNBC News showed a video of Mitt Romney’s campaign bus that was interspersed with video clips of buses blowing up in balls of fire, explicitly wishing that the Romney bus also blow up and those inside die a fiery death.
  • Liberal Professor Richard Parncutt of the University of Graz wants to execute other human beings that are global warming deniers for simply having a different opinion than his.
  • Liberal newspaper columnist Donald Kaul wrote an article for the Des Moines Register where he called for the killing of gun owners and “dragging legislators who disagree with gun control behind pickup trucks until they get the message.”
  • Liberal Erik Loomis, PhD, assistant professor of history at the University of Rhode Island decided that he wanted the death of National Rifle Association (NRA) CEO Wayne LaPierre, branding the gun rights group he heads as a terrorist organization: "[I] want Wayne LaPierre's head on a stick."
  • Liberal Karen Lewis, head of the Chicago Teachers’ Union had some violent rhetoric of her own to share: “Do not think for a minute that the wealthy are ever going to allow you to legislate their riches away from them. Please understand that. However, we are in a moment where the wealth disparity in this country is very reminiscent of the robber baron ages. The labor leaders of that time, though, were ready to kill. They were. They were just – off with their heads. They were seriously talking about that.”
  • Liberal Elizabeth Ashack, an economist at the Department of Labor, thinks that all Christians are Nazis.
  • Democratic Indiana state representative Vanessa Summers publicly stated that a fellow legislator’s 18 month old son is a racist.
  • Democratic Brooklyn City Councilwoman and African-American Laurie Cumbo is ticked off that so many Hispanic people have gotten into two housing projects, so ticked off that she wants to separate the races and cultures into their own ghettos, kind of sounds like segregation.
  • If you believe the reality of the sad state of the Social Security Administration’s dire financial straits, you are a liar according to liberal leaning U.S. Senator Bernie Sanders.
  • Republican Senators are too stupid to understand the multi-syllable words I am using, according to Democratic White House Press Secretary Josh Earnest.
  • All men should die or get f**ked, according to Democratic activist Sarah Noble.

Unpatriotic, racists, Klan members, Neanderthals, need to be taken out, terrorists, go to hell, whore, slut, a**h***s, self decapitation, f***, female body parts, hate rape, Nazis, Joseph Goebbels, being a housewife, blowing up a bus, execute those with a different opinion, head on a stick, drag behind a pickup, truck, Nazis (again), too stupid to understand my big words, die, and get f**ked. Not sure anything will ever get done when insults and slurs like this are flying about.

But wait you may say? How come you only picked on Democrats and liberals and their hateful speech and insults? Good question. I narrowed my hate week examples to Democrats and liberals for two reasons:

  1. In my experience and readings, Democrats and liberals are far more likely to revert to childish name calling and insults vs. Republicans, especially when they do not get their way. Rather than discuss contrary points of view, they are much quicker to go the insult and hate route, in my opinion. As a person who detests both parties and who has almost always voted Libertarian for over forty years, I think I have a pretty independent and unique view of both parties and their behavior.
  2. Democrats are far more hypocritical in their actions and thoughts as they keep telling themselves and everyone else that they are the more sensitive, more forgiving, more open to new ideas than Republicans and conservatives.  But as you see from the summaries above and the discussions we have been having over the past five days, that self perception of kindness and welcoming diversity could not be any further from the truth. Or as William F.Buckley, Jr. said long ago: “Liberals claim to want to give a hearing to other views, but then are shocked and offended to discover that there are other views.” To which they then call holders of these other views racist, Nazis, sluts, whores, etc.
Who is to blame for all of this hatred and divisiveness? I blame both the American political class and Americans voters like you and I that have allowed the political class to pervert our democracy processes, resulting in politicians that always get reelected without performing any worthwhile service to society.

In the process, they divide and conquer Americans, keeping us fighting amongst ourselves rather holding their feet to fire to lead the country in an adult and caring manner. Or as we described in "Love My Country, Loathe My Government:"

The two political parties within the same political class pick their friends (special interest groups) and pick their enemies in order to get their friends excited about reelecting the same tired politicians over and over. By pitting citizen against citizen, the political class is able to continue to get elected without making any serious or courageous decisions to help freedom or benefit the country. The endgame is to get elected regardless of who they make out the enemy to be: "Elect me or those people might take control!" Or, according to an Orwell quote: "The primary aim of modern warfare is to use up the products of the machine without raising the general standard of living." In other words, by working up our own special interest groups and pitting them against their special interest groups, we can divert attention and from the real problems and use the conflict to stay in power.

That is the reality going on in this country today., The real enemies are not overseas, the real enemies are the politicians who will do anything to get reelected and enrich themselves even if it pits one American against another.

So the next time you root for a politician that calls any American a slut, a whore, a racist, etc. for simply having a different opinion, realize that you are now part of the problem. Until we truly value diversity and start listening to each other as adults and respectful human beings, the hate will continue and nothing will ever get accomplished by the worst, most childish and most useless set of politicians to ever serve in office.

Help Break The Cycle Of Hate - "Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that."

For two reasons, I wanted to revisit a previous post in this blog that has been one of our most popular. First, during this holiday season, a season that should be one of peace and joy, we are mourning the loss of two New York City police officers who were assassinated on the streets of Brooklyn last weekend. Second, I believe this action is symptomatic of a larger disease in this country, a disease of hate.

This disease has a carrier, or carriers, namely the American political class. Never in my life have I seen such hate and venom directed at political opponents as I do now from those in office or those trying to put people in office. These co-called leaders are anything but that: they are panderers to their political handlers and allies, there are shallow, hate spewing individuals whose hate eventually gets translated into violence.

This post reprinted below was done as a result of the Connecticut school shootings. Its theme was that maybe we needed more hate control in this country before more gun control. The same concepts apply today, maybe we need more hate control today before we go down the road of empty political slogans. An old saying goes something like this: “never mistake slogans for solutions.”

Politicians and race baiters give us nothing more than slogans that satisfy their needs and egos but are not solutions. As you read the following plea for hate control, ask yourself if you yourself are ready to stand up in the face of hate and in the process hopefully help to control hate. Or are you satisfied simply to follow the follies and slogans of today’s politicians? Those are truly two opposite paths.

How About More Hate Control Before More Gun Control, Part 1 - Maybe Hatred Is The Real Root Cause Of Mass Shootings

Be forewarned: there is some bad language and implied bad language in the following so please pass if this might offend you. These are not my words but actually the words of our politicians and their supporters.

Today is the first of a four part series regarding the Newtown, Connecticut shooting where innocent kids and teachers were needlessly slaughtered be a deranged young man. Let me state a few facts up front:
  • I was tremendously saddened by this senseless act of violence.
  • I do not know how a young man can become so separated from compassion and reality and have so little respect for life that he would kill innocent children and teachers.
  • I am not a psychologist and have no understanding from a psychology/scientific perspective of the root causes which trigger a young man to execute this type of terror, and neither do 99.9% of the people with an opinion on this matter and 100% of those in the Washington political class.
  • I am not a member of the NRA and have never fired a gun, never mind owning one.
  • I am a fervent defender of the U.S. Constitution including the Second Amendment.
Today I want to consider a concept that I have not seen discussed in the media and certainly not by those in politics that want to strip law abiding, common sense citizens of their right to bear arms. The concept involves the idea that maybe we should do a little hate control BEFORE we recklessly and senselessly go off on a gun control tangent, a tangent that will likely increase crime and gun play, not reduce it (more on this latter concept tomorrow).

Let’s be honest, there is a lot of hate and venom circulating in the country today. Much of it is fomented by the political class as they foolishly try to incite their supporters and degrade their opponents in the most dehumanizing and disrespective ways possible.

The more you dehumanize others, the easier it is to see them as less worthy of their opinion and their life. Maybe if we started respecting each other a little more, taking some of the hate and venom out of our politics, thought processes, and speech, incidents like the shootings in Newtown, in south Chicago, in the ghettos of Detroit, etc. might be become a little less frequent if we respected each other a little more.

This increase in respect and humanizing of other human beings should start with our so-called leaders, However, as we have pointed out many times in this blog, these so-called leaders are a big cause of the problem, not the solution. They have had a busy, and disgraceful past couple of years degrading and abusing the opinions, lives, rights, and very existence of the citizens they are supposed to be serving:
  • Democrat Speaker Of The House Nancy Pelosi called citizen opponents to Obama Care unpatriotic for simply having a difference of opinion with many politicians in Washington.
  • Democratic Congressmen Mike Doyle and Henry Waxman and Vice President Joe Biden slandered American citizens opposed to unfettered and destructive government spending and debt by calling them terrorists (those people that bomb and kill innocent civilians).
  • When ordinary Americans objected to the building of a Islamic mosque near the World Trade Center property because of the sad memories of 9-11, Democrat Nancy Pelosi said THEY should be investigated for simply having a passionate opinion on the mosque.
  • Democratic Congresswoman Maxine Walters said all Tea Party American citizens can go to hell simply for having a difference of opinion with her.
When you viciously and unfoundedly associate ordinary citizens with racism, call them terrorists, question their patriotism, when you wish they would go to hell, and then threaten to take them out/exterminate them, you have dehumanized them in the eyes of your political supporters, making it easy to imagine them actually going away permanently.

Maybe this type of hate and venom and dehumanizing goes through the head of a young man when he decides to go off and actually follows the advice that those people “need to be taken out.” When your so-called leaders call for this type of behavior and language, it can’t be wrong, can it?

But our political class, and their direct supporters, also direct their hate and venomous words towards other politicians:
  • The campaign manager of Democrat’s Gerry Brown’s gubernatorial campaign called his Republican opponent, Meg Whitman, a whore.
  • White House czar Van Jones publicly called all Republicans a**h****s.
  • Democrat Alan Grayson called all Republicans knuckle dragging Neanderthals.
  • TV host Montel Williams publicly hoped that Republican Congresswoman Michele Bachman would commit suicide by decapitating herself.
  • Ed Schultz, an on air commentator for the Democratic leaning MSNBC news channel, called Laura Ingraham of Fox News a slut.
  • HBO TV host Bill Maher, a major donor to Obama’s 2012 Presidential Super PAC (a $1 million donor), said on air that Republican Sarah Palin “would f*** Rick Perry if he was black.”
  • Bill Maher called Republican Sarah Palin a disgusting and derogatory name that I will not repeat here.
  • Playboy magazine’s online website offered a detailed analysis on why and how each of ten Republican women in politics should be hate raped.
  • Democratic Congressman Steve Cohen likened Republican critics of Obamacare to the Nazis and their propaganda minister Joseph Goebbels.
  • A rap artist gave a Minnesota concert that was billed as the “F*** Michelle Bachman” concert (spelling out the entire f-word), a Republican Congresswoman from Minnesota.
When you label others as sluts and whores and suggest they should be raped or be killed, either by themselves or a fiery bus explosion, you set another stage for dehumanization. If you political opponents are just sluts and whores, no big deal if they go away, right?

I maintain that this type of disgusting, hateful behavior is an influence in our society and not an influence for good. It infects the undertone of how we view others. It reduces the amount of respect we have for others, making it easier to abuse others, possibly violently.

It usually does not cause someone to go off and actually start killing others but it certainly cannot help. It also cuts short the ability to listen to each other and appreciate the diversity of opinion each brings to a potential solution of a problem.

If I have allowed the political class and their ardent supporters to frame you as a racist or a slut or a terrorist, I am unlikely to consider any good you can bring to my life or to a solution of a problem. If I think it is a good thing that you self decapitate or die in a bus explosion, you will probably not get my attention when it comes to working towards a better society.

As a result of this hateful divisiveness the political class has driven into our society, we despise others that have a different opinion from ours. Major issues, such a failing public schools, a lost war on drugs, skyrocketing national debt, high health care costs, illegal immigration, etc., never get resolved. The hate prevents us from listening to each other, from calibrating our view of the world with others’ views of the world.

And possibly in the case of Newtown, we go beyond not listening and we start shooting. Not because guns are legal but because we have allowed the political class to desensitize us to each other as human beings.

But it is not only politicians that spew the hate and venom, hate and venom that others take to heart, hate and venom that their children take and internalize. Consider just some recent examples that have appeared in the news:

- Consider the hateful speech and intentions of Professor Richard Parncutt of the University of Graz regarding other human beings that are global warming deniers, those daring to have a different opinion than his: “In this article I am going to suggest that the death penalty is an appropriate punishment for influential GW [global warming] deniers... They [global warming deniers] are already causing the deaths of hundreds of millions of future people. We could be speaking of billions, but I am making a conservative estimate… With high probability it will cause hundreds of millions of deaths. For this reason I propose that the death penalty is appropriate for influential GW deniers.”

Different opinion, therefore you should die. I wonder what he would do to people like me, given our opinions on global warming; should we die also or just suffer some horrible disease since we are not influential enough:

http://loathemygovernment.blogspot.com/2012/11/wishing-al-gore-would-shut-up-why-i-am.html

http://loathemygovernment.blogspot.com/2012/11/wishing-al-gore-would-shut-up-why-i-am_10.html

As an aside, in 2009, the CIA opened up a new division, The Center on Climate Change and National Security. The purpose of this group was to examine the impact of global warming from a national security perspective. A few months ago, with little fanfare, they disbanded the organization. Is the CIA also worthy of Professor Parncutt’s death penalty or was it just common sense that this global warming organization was not longer viable or needed?

- Pulitzer nominated newspaper columnist Donald Kaul recently wrote an article for the Des Moines Register where he called for the killing of gun owners and “dragging legislators who disagree with gun control behind pickup trucks until they get the message.” Don’t agree with my opinion? Thus, we should have more killing and more torture for those that dare to have a difference of opinion. How does this stop the cycle of hate that starts with the political class?

- Erik Loomis, PhD, assistant professor of history at the University of Rhode Island decided he needed to get into the hate and venom game also when he recently stated on Twitter that he wanted the death of National Rifle Association (NRA) CEO Wayne LaPierre, branding the gun rights group he heads as a terrorist organization:
"[I] want Wayne LaPierre's head on a stick." A little hateful, a little violent?

- Karen Lewis, head of the Chicago Teachers’ Union recently had some violent rhetoric of her own to share: “Do not think for a minute that the wealthy are ever going to allow you to legislate their riches away from them. Please understand that. However, we are in a moment where the wealth disparity in this country is very reminiscent of the robber baron ages. The labor leaders of that time, though, were ready to kill. They were. They were just – off with their heads. They were seriously talking about that.”

And this person is associated with educating young minds and kids. Don’t like someone or are jealous of their wealth, that in all probability was garnered via honest hard work and sweat, than just off with their heads.

I maintain that you cannot have such hate and disrespect and venomous speech floating around and it not have a negative impact on how we treat each other, how it dehumanizes others. I am not saying the Newtown shooting was directly caused because of this poisonous environment but it certainly did not help. Was the shooter seated around his dinner table through the years when slurs and demeaning things were said about others, how others that were different from him were worthy of being “taken out.“

And it certainly does not allow us to sit down and go face-to-face with others to leverage everyone’s knowledge and skills to confront all of our problems from school shootings to high debt, high illiteracy levels, failing public education, a failing health care system etc.

But if we solved all of our problems, on what issues would our politicians run on? And that, my friends, is the root cause of most of our problems, from school shootings to the lack of a national energy problem, our shameless politicians need the hate and venom to frame and finance their continual reelection effort.

So tonight, when you are sitting around the table with your family, how about a little more hate control and a lot more respect for others in front of our kids. Again, it couldn’t hurt.

And tomorrow if you should come across someone who thinks other human beings need to be taken out, killed, dragged behind a truck or hate raped simply for having a difference of opinion, may I suggest you walk away? Engaging in such a discussion with these types of people just spreads and intensifies the hate and gets yourself muddy, as the old saying goes: “Never mud wrestle with a pig because you both get dirty and the pig likes it.” Walk away, stay clean, and let the hate spewer stew in his own mud. Help break the cycle of hate.

************************************

Hate killed those two New York City police officers this past weekend, hate that in at least some part was started and propagated by the American political class and their allies in the race industry. Stating today, may I suggest we all start living the words of Martin Luther King Jr. and not today's news hounds and their latest slogans: "Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that."

Screwed Up Government Priorities, Case #2 - "Meanwhile, oil continues to spew into the Gulf.."

Yesterday we discussed the first in a series of posts regarding how screwed up our government's priorities are. We saw that while the political class spends almost $16 billion a year in local earmarks for their local states and districts and to generate campaign funds for their re-election, the same political class spends only about $2 billion a year on cancer research, a set of diseases that kill hundreds of thousands of Americans every year. How screwed up is that priority: better to get re-elected then save American lives.

Meanwhile, oil continues to spew into the Gulf...

Today we will look at a second set of screwed up priorities, namely the whole situation with the BP oil spill disaster in the Gulf Of Mexico. As an upfront disclaimer, let me state that I find the actions of BP leading up to, during, and after the explosion on their oil rig to be shortsighted, despicable, and inadequate. They took short cuts and probably violated a number of Federal safety statues and laws. Over 60 days later they still have not plugged the leak and really have no other plan in place to stop it for at least another couple of months. They should be held accountable for the damage and safety violations to the fullest extent of current law.

Meanwhile, oil continues to spew into the Gulf...

Unfortunately, over the past week or so, the political class has gotten itself and their egos involved in the process. A White House meeting was held with Obama and his staff and the Chairman and CEO of BP. CEO Tony Hayward later went over to get beat up at Congressional hearings by Congress people that probably had no idea of what they were talking about except that it made them feel good in front of the cameras. And, there is no doubt that Hayward probably deserved some of the beat down since it is obvious that under his watch, BP was not prepared for what happened. However, rather than beat up the head of the cleanup, could we have not waited a little while to crucify him in public? Would not his time have been better spent working on the problem, the continuing spill, rather than jetting to DC? There is plenty of time to get a pound of flesh after the hole is plugged.

Meanwhile, the oil continues to spew into the Gulf...

Anyway, Mr. Hayward is not the only one who should be crucified because of this disaster. What about Interior Secretary Salazar. I would like to get him on the stand and ask him the following questions:
  • Mr. Secretary, the Associated Press has reported that an internal investigation has uncovered at least one of your employees responsible for oil rig safety has admitted that he used crystal meth and may have been under the influence the next day at work and that others have admitted to being users of illegal drugs. Did that have anything to do with safety laxity on your watch?
  • Mr. Secretary, the Associated Press has reported that an internal investigation has uncovered numerous occurrences where your employees received hunting and fishing trips and other gifts from the same companies that your department was supposed to be regulating and inspecting. Did that have anything to do with safety laxity on your watch?
  • Mr. Secretary, the Associated Press has reported that an internal investigation has uncovered numerous occurrences where your inspectors were actively inspecting oil company sites for safety at the same time they were negotiating for jobs at those very companies. Did that have anything to do with safety laxity on your watch?
  • Mr. Secretary, an Associated Press report mentions a 2008 report by the Interior department's inspector general that "decried a culture of ethical failure" and conflicts of interest at the responsible Interior agency. Did this culture have anything to do with the safety laxity on your watch and how have you addressed this problem?
  • Mr. Secretary, the Associated Press has reported that an internal investigation found that some local employees in your Lake Charles, La. office had a significant amount of pornography on their government computers. Did that have anything to do with safety laxity on your watch?
  • Mr. Secretary, the Associated Press has reported that your department conducted sixteen fewer safety inspections at the BP oil rig than it should have. Did that have anything to do with the safety laxity on your watch?
  • Mr.Secretary, the Associated Press has reported that safety regulation of the Gulf wells is so lax that "some key safety aspects on rigs are decided almost entirely by the companies doing the work." Did that have anything to do with the safety laxity on your watch?
  • Mr. Secretary, the Associated Press has reported that the overall BP safety plan and the safety plan specifically for the rig that exploded never had a chance of being successful, even on paper, and was riddled with inaccuracies, falsehoods, and inadequate preparation for the disaster. Who is responsible for such a lousy plan and document and will there be repercussions for those responsible?
Meanwhile, oil continues to spew into the Gulf...

Secretary Salazar is not he only person I would want to grill as an American citizen. I would allow Congressman Henry Waxman and Senator Jeff Bingaman, the chairman in Congress who chair committees on energy, to be put on the stand together for the following questions:
  • Gentlemen, given the myriad of failures discussed with Mr. Salazar above, how come your committees were so lax in their oversight of the energy safety issues on Gulf drilling rigs?
  • Gentlemen, given that your committees are responsible for Gulf drilling rigs, have either of you ever been on an oil rig?
  • Gentlemen, given that your committees are responsible for Gulf drilling rigs, are either of you familiar with the Federal safety regulations? I particularly address this to you, Mr. Waxman, since you have already admitted you have not read the entire Cap And Trade legislation even though you are a co-sponsor. Have either of you read the safety regulations of oil rigs?
  • Gentlemen, according to a recent Washington Post article that was summarized in the June 25, 2010 issue of The Week magazine, there are currently only 62 inspectors assigned to oversee 4,000 oil rigs in the Gulf of Mexico, or about one inspector for every 64 wells or so while in 1985 there were 55 inspectors for about 400 oil rigs or about one inspector for every seven or eight rigs. Do you accept some of this responsibility for underfunding the need to have more inspectors?
  • Gentlemen, Washington has been abuzz about energy and climate change legislation lately. Wouldn't it be wiser in the short term to worry about the continued leak than to focus on a long term energy/climate bill?
Meanwhile, oil continued to spill into the Gulf...

And finally, I would like to sit with President Obama and ask him a few questions:
  • Mr. President, you have proclaimed that you and your administration are on top of the situation but since the spill began it has been reported that you traveled to California three times for political fundraisers, played at least seven rounds of golf, took two vacations, participated in several photo ops with athletic teams, and did not meet with Hayward until about the eighth week of the crisis. Is that your definition of being on top of the situation?
  • Mr. President, Tony Hayward has taken a lot of heat this weekend because he took time off to attend a yacht race back in Europe. Should you have taken the same amount of heat for taking time off to go to a baseball game Friday night even though the oil leak continues?
  • Mr. President, will you prosecute, fine, fire, or take an disciplinary action against government employees who failed in their assigned duties to oversee and regulate the drilling activities in the Gulf?
  • Mr. President, why is it taking so long for local governments to get help and permission to stem the tide of oil that is washing over their shores? Why didn't the Army Corp. of Engineers have a contingency plan ready rather than deny permission for sand berms and other actions until they "studied" the implications? Shouldn't that study have been done prior to the disaster?
  • Mr. President, why have you not asked for a waiver of the Jones Act so that willing countries can donate their equipment to help with the clean up? Could it be you want to delay the clean up and prolong the problem in order to get the legislation passed that you want?
  • Rather than publicly browbeat the very people technically and logistically responsible for stopping the leak last week, would it have not been a better approach to lay off for just a little while and let them focus on stopping the leak and then bring them to Washington for your photo op and thrashing of BP, after the leak was stopped?
Meanwhile, oil continues to spew into the Gulf...

Let's face, this is a disaster of epic proportions. From BP's shortcuts to save a little money and time and flaunting of standard safety protocols to the inadequate Federal oversight and focus on not stopping the leak the leak at all costs, we have never seen anything so disgusting in our lives. And where are the government's priorities? Congressmen and women anxious to show their indignation on television when it was obvious most of them did not know what they a were talking about. Other politicians trying to get their favorite energy and environmental legislation passed while losing focus on the core problem: stop the darn leak. That should be the only priority right now. The TV grandstanding, the press conferences, the feigned indignation, working for passage of legislation, that can all wait under we stop the leak.

Meanwhile, oil continues to spew into the Gulf...

This is just another reason why term limits (Step 39 in "Love My Country, Loathe My Government") and ousting the incumbents in November is so important. Long time politicians get to comfortable in their positions and allow laxity to enter into their administering and governing. Regulations are passed but not enforced. Employees are hired but no trained or supervised properly. A crisis occurs and the political class looks at a way to leverage the disaster rather than fixing the disaster. Not only should the top management at BP be replaced but Salazar, Waxman, Bingaman, and all politicians sitting on the committees responsible for oversight of the Gulf drilling need to be removed from their committee and subcommittee posts (Step 34). In real life, if you screw up, there are consequences. Should be the same way in government. Allow an epic environmental disaster to occur on your watch, a disaster that was totally preventable, get removed from your committee post.

Meanwhile, oil continues to spew into the Gulf...

2009 Year End Review: The Good, The Bad, And The Ugly - Today = Bad

Yesterday we reviewed some of the good things the political class did in the second half of 2009 (there were not very many). Today we will review some of the less than glorious antics, quotes, and actions the political class has done to the country and its citizens in the second half of 2009, "The Bad." Tomorrow we will review the incredible waste of taxpayer dollars and government resources the political class has squandered. Each day I will pick the very best good, the very best bad and the very best ugly.

Before we start, please note two things. First, all of the instances of political activity I will review have already been discussed and analyzed in previous posts to this blog. Thus, for more detail on anything listed and discussed in the next three days you can review the past posts. Second, everything discussed in the three posts come from credible news sources, these are not facts and stories I made up or are coming from highly partisan sources. Typical sources include CNN, the Associated Press, the New York Times, The Week Magazine, Reason magazine and other news sources. While I will not identify the sources again in these review posts, you can refer to the original posts to get the date and source referenced for the information.

So let's review some of the less than glorious antics that the political class served us with in the second half of 2009:
  • Ginny Brown-Waite, a Congresswoman from Florida, was actively investing in bank stocks at the same time she was sitting on the House banking committee to determine which banks got what levels of bailout money and support from the American taxpayer through the Federal government. This is a blatant conflict of interest. Ordinary Americans would probably have gone to jail for insider trading if they did the same thing, apparently conflict of interest and insider trading activities do not apply to Congressional members.
  • Senator Hillary Clinton apparently also does not understand conflict of interest theory. She helped pass a bill that allowed a mall developer in New York state to get preferential tax treatment, shortly after the developer made a significant donation to Bill Clinton's foundation.
  • Hawaiian Senator Daniel Inouye's staff helped a bank in Hawaii get bailout money from the FDIC after the the FDIC determined the bank was not worth saving. Turns out that the Senator had invested heavily in the bank and stood to lose a load of money unless the bank was saved by the American taxpayer.
  • Senator Chris Dodd of Connecticut received substantial campaign donations from Fannie Me and Freddie Mac. Two things wrong here. First, Dodd was chairman of the Senate banking committee responsible for overseeing the activities of Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, a clear cut case of conflict of interest. Second, how do two Federal organizations that exist now solely because of taxpayer support and bailout money get to use taxpayer money to support specific candidates for office? Shouldn't government organizations remain non-partisan and not a piggy bank for the politicians who are supposed to oversee them?
  • Ex-Congressman William Jefferson of Louisiana was convicted of taking bribes and was sentenced to 13 years in prison. You may recall that Mr. Jefferson was caught with frozen bribe money in his home freezer. This continues the hall of shame tradition of the political class who recently included Congressman Randy Cunningham who was sentenced to eight years in prison for taking $2.4 million in bribes, Congressman Bill Ney who was sentenced to two and a half years in prison for taking bribes, Congressman James Traficant who was sentenced to seven years in prison for taking bribes, and the majority of ex-Governors of Illinois who are either serving prison time, have served prison time, or may soon face prison time.
  • 60% of the Congressional members sitting on the House Armed Services Committee received campaign contributions from the very companies that they had previously earmarked pork barrel budget money for.
  • Congressman Charles Rangel of New York is being investigated for a number of ethics violations including, but not limited to, non-declaration of rental income, certain assets, and other income.
  • In the area of "who really cares about this bill", Congresswoman Anna Eshoo of California and her staff are working on legislation to Federally regulate the sound volume on television commercials. Never mind that TV watchers can mute the sound, change the channel, leave the room to get something to eat, fast forward on their DVR machines, or just ignore the TV for 60 seconds. Why work on Iraq, Afghanistan, soaring deficits, unemployment, failing public schools, etc. when the TV commercial sound volume issue is so pressing????
  • In the same vein as Ms. Eshoo's contribution to America, Congressman Jim Moran and his staff are investigating whether erectile dysfunction television commercials should be banned. I did not know this was so important either. As with Ms. Eshoo, let's ignore real issues facing America and work on E.D. commercials.
  • And it never ends. Congressman Thaddeus McCotter and his staff is working on legislation to provide up to $300 a month in income tax deductions so that the unemployed do not have to put their pets up for adoption. Maybe if his staff and he were working on how to get America working again, there would be no need for this ridiculous program that would never be able to be tracked and would be rife with fraud.
  • The fence along the border between America and Mexico was the work of the entire Congress. In a 2009 report we learned that the construction of the fence is seven years behind schedule, it will cost $6.4 billion to maintain the fence over the next twenty years ($870,000 a day!), and there have been at least 3,000 breaches of the fence where illegal immigrants were able to enter the country despite this billion dollar fence.
  • As we have referenced any number of times these past months, the new Washington D.C. visitors' center was completed but only after it overran it's construction budget by 50%.
  • California Congressman Henry Waxman was quoted as saying: "I certainly don't claim to know everything's that's in this bill" in referring to the massive cap and trade legislation that is likely to come before Congress in 2010. The troubling aspect of this statement is that Waxman is the official co-author and writer of the bill!
  • Recently, who could forget the blatant bribes that Henry Reid allowed to enter the recently passed health care reform bill where a handful of Democratic Senators were able to get breaks for their individual states in the hundreds of billions of dollars in exchange for their final vote in support of this lame bill.

And the winner is: I have to give it to the Mexican border fence. In typical political class tradition, it is a program that does not work (the fence is constantly breached, allowing illegals to enter), it is over budget and seven years behind schedule, and it will waste taxpayer money to the tune of $870,000 a day for the next twenty years. The entire political class worked on this one and they all merit mention on this disaster. This does not belittle the conflict of interest, waste, illegal actions, and other missteps mentioned above. They all waste time, energy, and taxpayer dollars for no discernible benefit to the vast majority of Americans.

As mentioned previously, many of the steps in "Love My Country, Loathe My Government" would prevent these travesties. These include term limits for politicians, a ground up review of all Federal programs and projects to see if they serve any useful purpose, an annual code of ethics statement and vow for each sitting politician, a rule to prevent any Federal project to exist unless it materially benefited a large number of citizens from at least five states in order to reduce local earmarks, and campaign finance reform that would allow only individual citizens to contribute to political campaigns (conversely, forbidding unions, PACs, businesses, etc. to contribute.)

Tomorrow we will look at "The Ugly" wastes of earmarks and other Federal programs that solve no problems for the majority of Americans and serve only to get incumbents re-elected.

Ghost Of Nixon Past - Part 1

Having been away on vacation for a week has caused me to fall behind in responding to more shenanigans from the Washington political class. They are a never ending source of amusement, disgust, and wastes of money. However, tonight's post is very serious. A disturbing trend is becoming evident with the Obama administration. It appears that rather than debate, discuss and compromise on the issues, the Obama administration would rather try to intimidate those that have the audacity to disagree with them. Three examples are listed below and come from a letter I sent to my Democratic Senator this morning:

************************************************************************
Senator Nelson:

I have never voted for a Republican for national office in my life so this is not coming from a disgruntled Republican voter. I would like to know your view on the following topics that I view as a tremendous threat to freedom in this country:
  • It is no secret that Obama and the White House are out to do a hatchet job on Fox News. It is obvious that Fox has not been a supporter of the administration on any number of fronts. However, isn't the right to disagree in this country sacred? This administration is beginning to feel like Nixon's with the start of an "enemies list" headed by Fox News. I never watch Fox News but shouldn't they have a right to pursue their views without government coercion. What is your view?
  • Recently it looks like this enemies list concept has extended to Henry Waxman who is investigating salaries at insurance companies who are opposed to the current health care reform bills. Do you agree with Waxman that the government should coerce those who disagree with the government's policies by attacking private market companies? Would it not be better to discuss and debate rather than attack like Obama and Waxman are doing?
  • In the summer, Speaker Nancy Pelosi called those who disagree with the President as Un-American. Do you agree with Pelosi that those who show peaceful dissent are not true Americans? Do you agree with her that mature debate of differing opinions is against the country?

These are very troubling government actions regardless of who is in power and who these attacks are directed at. Kind of starting to feel like Iran where the government suppresses dissent and oppresses those who disagree. I would like a specific reply on how you support or actively oppose these freedom threatening actions by Obama, Waxman and Pelosi. Remember the words of Martin Luther King: "An injustice anywhere threatens justice everywhere."

***********************************************************************

I also remember some of the words and antics of the Nixon administration. Nixon also had an enemies list like this adminstration and also had Spiro Agnew to try to bully and intimidate the press people who dared to disagree with Nixon's policies, much like the attack dogs that Obama has put after Fox News. The duration of the Nixon administration was not pleasant if you remember. The more he attacked the press and their right to publish the news as they saw fit, the more the country became divided, culminating in Watergate, impeachment, and a country whose ills were not addressed for a long time.

I have not yet heard back from the Senator which is no surprise. I seldom get any response from him, not even form letters or emails. Typical of the political class, "Hey. I am in office and am too important to deal with you until the next election." I will keep you posted on any response I receive, should make for some funny and convoluted spin. I will also keep you posted on any response I get from the White House since I copied the letter to them. I have NEVER received any kind of response from them despite Obama's pledge to have the most open administration ever. Just like his pledge to get us out of Iraq, close Guantanomo, fight for gay rights, etc., etc., etc., he is coming up short on this pledge also.

I labeled this post as Part One, I think there will be very many more Nixon-like actions from this administration, none of which contribute to freedom in this country.
