A National Day of Prayer For Law Enforcement Officers, Past, Current and Future

We will take a day off from reviewing the latest insanity from America's political class to provide a prayer for law enforcement officers across the country. As you may or may not know, it seems that it is open season on the lives of police officers across the country. Upwards of nine officers have been intentionally gunned down in the past week or so.

Reasons for this violence against those that protect us can be debated but two things are clear. Many radical activists in the minority communites across this ocuntry have not been shy about wanting to harass and murder police officers. Second, the President has been despicably silent about this violence and the threat of violence against law enforcement officers across the country.

When leaders do not provide leadership sometimes the worse of society comes forth since leaders do not step up to tamp down the violence.

Tomorrow, September 4, 2015, churches around the country will open at noon for a National Day of Prayer For Those that Protect and Serve. In other words, they are showing more caring and leadership than the current residence of the White House.

If you believe that those that serve and protect are brave, vital members of our communities, than please consider offering this prayer tomorrow for their safety and also say a little prayer that somneone, somehow within the political structure of this country find the courage to actually speak out for the safety of these brave men and women.

Dear Heavenly Father,

We come before you with humbled hearts. We pray Your protection over all our law enforcement as they faithfully serve our communities. We lift up to You the family of Deputy Darren Goforth and all the families of our first responders and our military who have lost loved ones. Comfort them and provide them with Your peace that surpasses understanding in the midst of unimaginable grief. God, we ask for Your healing over our communities. Let us come together and unite in peace and prayer.

In Your Name, we pray.

Amen.

Thank you.

September, 2015, Political Class Insanity, Part 1: Bad Presidential Priorities, An Inept IRS, An Inept EPA, and More

It is the start of another month which means it is time for our monthly review of the latest political class insanity that continually spews forth from America’s politicians. Their actions, words, quotes, incompetency, and general ineptness continue to reinforce our theory that we are currently being served by the worst set of politicians in the history of the nation.

As you read about the latest shenanigans and ineptness of the political class, keep in mind what should be their priorities in these difficult times and compare this list to what they are actually working on:
  • NBC recently reported that ISIS forces are getting larger and stronger despite the Obama administration spending billions of dollars on a failed air campaign and military strategy.
  • The stock market is in free fall.
  • Job creation is barely keeping up with population growth.
  • Wage growth is anemic, growing just .2% in the second quarter, the lowest quarterly growth since 1982.
  • The labor participation rate is at the lowest level in decades because the Obama economy cannot generate enough jobs.
  • Thousands of veterans are still not getting the medical care they were promised by the Federal government.
  • A record number of police officers have been assassinated in the past week.
  • 45 million Americans are still receiving monthly Federal food assistance.
  • Our borders still leak and thousands of illegal immigrant criminals continue to walk our streets.
  • Major programs such as Medicare, Medicaid, and Social Security are hurtling towards insolvency and lose hundreds of billions of dollars every year to fraud and mismanagement.
  • Our kids are still getting lousy public educations at most public schools.
  • The IRS and other government functions seem to be getting their computer systems hacked on a regular basis, exposing tens of millions of Americans to identity theft potential.
  • Obama Care is a failure along so many dimensions as health care costs continue to soar despite the Obama promise that they would decrease.
  • Annual Federal deficits, while down, are still about half a TRILLION a year meaning that even though the Federal government is collecting more in taxes than ever before, it still cannot run a balanced budget.
Again, keep these real crises in mind as you read what our politicians are actually doing.

1) The Obama administration recently announced that the President has decided to rename Mount McKinley in Alaska to its original name, Denali, which means “the great one.” He will personally make this announcement during a three day trip to Alaska.

If you asked any American to name the top 100 issues and problems facing America today, do you think that anyone of them would say, “We need to rename Mount McKinley?” Doubtful, yet this Presidential administration thinks that this is news worthy and worthy of the President’s time in the face of all of the above listed crises. Pathetic.

2) According to a story in the June 12, 2015 issue of The Week magazine, the FBI has secretly and probably illegally been operating a small fleet of low flying planes that circle above U.S. cities while they conduct video and cell phone surveillance. According to the article, 11 cities have been targets of the FBI’s secret air force and the surveillance usually was done without a judge or court order of permission.

Given that the FBI tried to hide the existence of the planes by creating 13 fake companies, one has to be suspicious that what they were doing was illegal. The FBI defended the program by claiming that the planes and their surveillance equipment only tracked specific individuals and there was no mass surveillance. Right, we are supposed to trust you when you set up 13 fake companies to cover your tracks. Smacks of Orwell’s 1984. Lying government officials and politicians allowing them to get away with it, breaking of laws, and possible violations of the Fourth Amendment.

3) According to a blurb in the July 24, 2015 issue of The Week magazine, the Federal government actually spent $2 million on a program whose purpose was to encourage wives to nag their husbands to give up chewing tobacco. The cynic in me would say that American wives do not need $2 million to nag their husbands about a disgusting habit. The realist in me says that maybe that $2 million could have been better spent treating our armed forces veterans who are not getting the medical care they need rather than wasting it on an inane idea like this.

4) If the EPA ever found out that you threw a partially filled paint can in the garbage you would probably be fined for pollution. However, when the EPA’s incompetence results in its employees accidentally spilling 3 million gallons of toxic wastewater, wastewater containing arsenic, lead, and other pollutants, into a major river, there are no consequences, no employee gets fired, no employee pays a fine, etc.

This is what happened out west when 3 million gallons of mustard colored pollution ended up in the Animas River that flows in Colorado and New Mexico. Just another Federal agency that is so inept that they make any existing situation worse or in this case, actually create a brand new problem.

5) What kind of country are we creating for our kids? The current set of Washington politicians have never been able to create economic policies and strategies that create a robust, growing economy and as a result, this is what they are doing to our young adults according to an article in the August 21, 2015 issue of The Week magazine:
  • The percentage of young adults, aged 18 to 34, that are living with their parents at home has increased to 26% from 24% in 2010 despite what Obama called a successful economic recovery.
  • The unemployment rate for these folks is now 7.7%, more than two percentage points higher than the overall national unemployment rate.
  • A whopping 56% of these young adults say they have had to delay a major life event, e.g. buying a house, getting married, etc., due to their high level of student debt and the lack of well paying jobs.
This is not the American dream, this is American survival, all courtesy of a political class that is inept and ignorant when it comes to managing for a robust and growing economy. And it is our kids and the next generation of Americans that are paying the price with living standards and expectations that are not growing like they have done historically from one generation to the next.

5) In the August 28, 2015 issue of The Week magazine, we find out that the IRS has admitted that a hack attack of its computer systems back in May is far worse than what the IRS originally reported. Apparently, identity thieves accessed 334,000 personal files, not the 114,000 files that the IRS admitted to in May.

According to the article the hack occurred back in November, 2014 but the IRS did not realize what had happened until seven months or so later. In one of the great understatements of the year, Congressman Peter Roskam stated: “The revelation that the IRS didn’t understand this security breach for months is not confidence inspiring.” Ya think? No word on whether anyone in the IRS lost their job for this level of incompetence. Probably not, if history is any guide.

That will do it for today, we are just getting warmed up. But today we learned that IRS is still clueless when it gets its records robbed and hacked, finding out months after the fact that it screwed up. Our young adults are getting screwed by an Obama economy that is neither robust nor conducive to hiring recent college graduates. The Feds spent $2 million to encourage wives to nag their husbands. We have the FBI operating its own private, and probably illegal, air force. And finally, we have a President who thinks renaming a mountain is more important than anything else in our list of real problems listed above.

Months change, the insanity changes, but the politicians that create the insanity remain the same. Unfortunately.

Why The Iran Nuclear Weapons Deal Stinks

As most concerned Americans know, President Obama and Secretary of State John Kerry reached a tentative agreement with the Iranian government several months ago to theoretically halt the march of the Iranians to becoming a nuclear arms power. In the next few weeks, Congress will debate and then vote on whether to approve the deal.

Rather than trying to sell the deal to the American people on its merits and upsides, and perhaps showing some leadership in the process, this administration has continued its long established ways of demeaning, ridiculing, and name calling those that have concerns or doubts about the deal.

The President has called those that oppose the deal "crazies" even though the majority of Americans who have an opinion about the deal do not want it approved. Which is just the typical condescending attitude that this President has had against anyone who dares disagree with him. John Kerry has been out of sight and out of mind the past few weeks, obviously not trying to sell the deal to America either.

As a result, a number of thoughtful people have put forth, in very concise, easily understandable ways, why this is a bad deal. Why the President has not addressed these points  rather than just say they are wrong and to blindly trust him, is another example of the absence of leadership skills of this Presidency.

Judge and comment for yourself after reading the following rebuttals to the proposed deal. If you believe that these rebuttals are an accurate description of reality of the deal and worry of the major consequences such a putrid deal will do the the Middle East and our own security, I strongly suggest that you call your Congressional reps right away and deal them to reject the deal.

If you think that the President can be trusted and that he is not shopping for a foreign policy legacy win, i.e. he will do anything to make it look like a winning deal just to enhance his legacy, then you can sit back and watch a new nuclear arms race unfold in the Middle East, watch Iran hype up its terrorism activities across the world, and watch Iran work on how to put its eventual nuclear weapons on the tip of an intercontinental missile. And the President calls us that oppose this deal the crazies.

The first set of logical objections to this deal come from the website of former Congressman Allen West:

1. Iran is the number one state sponsor of Islamic terrorism and has not evidenced any desire to curtail their activities. In fact, given the Ayatollah’s comments, sounds to me like they want to ratchet it up.

2. The JCPOA [the tentative deal] does not gradually relieve economic sanctions against Iran; it does so immediately to the tune of $115 billion in unfrozen assets released to the number one sponsor of Islamic terrorism.

3. In year five, the JCPOA allows the U.N. ban on conventional weapons for Iran to expire, which means the number one state sponsor of Islamic terrorism can legally buy and sell arms. Iran, however, has already entered into talks with Russia and China to purchase new aerial refueling tankers and fighter jets, and the Chinese are seeking an exchange of the fighter jets for oil. And incidentally, General Qassem Suleimani, who heads the Iranian Quds Force – a designated terrorist organization – violated an international travel ban by going to Russia to meet with their defense minister and Russian president Vladimir Putin.

4. In year eight, the JCPOA lifts the U.N. weapons ban on ballistic missiles for Iran, a country where the leadership chants “Death to Israel” and “Death to America.”

5. In year ten, Iran can return its centrifuges to full operational capability and enrich uranium. In the meantime, Iran has the authority to do its own inspections, and the original requirement of immediate, “no notification” inspections has been replaced with a 24-day advance notification process.

6. Finally, in year fifteen, the number one state sponsor of Islamic terrorism is allowed to build new nuclear reactors. We’re not stopping them; merely delaying.

The second source debunking the details of the deal come from Michaela Dodge writing for the Heritage Foundation. She specializes in missile defense, nuclear weapons modernization and arms control as policy analyst for defense and strategic policy in The Heritage Foundation’s Allison Center for Foreign Policy Studies. Her recent writings include the following top line realities:

  • Recently, over 900 rabbis formally announced their opposition to the deal.
  • Almost 200 retired U.S. generals and admirals signed a joint letter urging Congress to reject the deal while the White House could only round up 30 former military leaders to support the deal.
  • Even though the majority of Americans and Israelis polled are in favor of a diplomatic answer to the Iranian problem, the majority of them do not want THIS deal to be the diplomatic answer.

She then goes on to rebut specific points of the deal, much like Mr. West did above, providing concrete examples of why this is a bad deal:

1) “This deal blocks every pathway Iran might take to obtain a nuclear weapon.” This statement is untrue. A piece of paper cannot stop a determined country from obtaining a nuclear weapon. The cash-strapped regime in North Korea is a great example.

To make matters worse, the deal does not dismantle Iran’s uranium enrichment infrastructure, which was developed in defiance of Iran’s international obligations.

The deal effectively rewards years of Iran’s violations of its international obligations with billions of dollars to fund terrorism and lifts sanctions on advanced technologies and materials usable in Iran’s nuclear program, including Tehran’s ballistic missile program.

The deal even opens a path for Iran to buy functioning parts of a nuclear weapon.

2) “It ensures that centrifuges are removed except for a handful.” Usually, a handful does not mean thousands, as is the case with the number of Iranian centrifuges the deal leaves untouched.

Additionally, the deal allows Iran to continue research and development of more advanced types of centrifuges, including letting Iran operate them by hundreds. None of the centrifuges will be destroyed. And they are only a part of the problem. Maintaining skilled people who know how to manage the centrifuges is just as serious.

Should Iran decide that the deal is no longer in its interest, it will be in an excellent position to restore its capabilities fast.

The United States will not be able to impose a sanctions regime that would be as rigorous as the existing regime, which is a result of years of labor and hundreds of trips of U.S. officials to foreign banks.

Once cash starts flowing, it will be immensely difficult to re-impose these sanctions. Sanctions relief is front-loaded, further reducing Iran’s incentive to not follow through with all its obligations.

3) “But this deal does not rely on trust. It relies on verification.” How will members of Congress know if Iran is cheating, let alone the American people, since the administration has failed to provide documents outlining details of verification? In fact, neither Secretary of State John Kerry nor Secretary of Energy Ernest Moniz has read these documents.

Just last week, it became clear that Iran will be allowed to use its own inspectors to investigate sites suspected of conducting nuclear weapon work. This is akin to letting a fox guard a chicken coop. The verification regime is particularly weak when it comes to undeclared/covert activities and activities that do not involve radioactive material.

Iran can hold up inspectors for months and will be provided information about where covert activities are occurring, making it easier to cover them.

Iran has been lying, cheating, and covering up its nuclear activities for years. Americans and the International Atomic Energy Agency, responsible for deal’s verification, have been surprised more than once in the past regarding Iran’s illicit nuclear activities.

4) “We are not giving away anything in this deal in terms of our capacity to respond if they chose to cheat.” Obama will be putting future American presidents in a tough position.

This is because Iran will be able to spend billions of dollars on terrorist activities—and the United States and allies will be on the receiving end of these activities. Tehran will be able to obtain advanced weaponry from Russia and China, certainly complicating U.S. options should Iran decide to cheat.

A couple of points of emphasis to add unto the points made above:

  • North Korea became a dangerous nuclear power despite having virtually no economy and being one of the poorest nations in the world. Imagine how much easier it will be for Iran to become a nuclear power once we give it over $100 billion to spend as it pleases.
  • Effective economic sanctions will never be reimposed since China and Russia, two of the five members of the United Nations Security Council will not allow it since they will benefit economically from the deal and politically in their quest to grow their power and influence at the expense of the United States.
  • The Obama/Kerry negotiating team was so weak that they could not even negotiate the release of four American citizens being held in Iranian jails despite giving the Iranians over $100 billion in sanctions relief. This point alone establishes how poorly the U.S. negotiated for this deal.
  • News reports have stated that the Saudis are already in the market to purchase nuclear weapons, lord knows they have enough money to do so, likely buying their nuclear weapons technology from the Pakistanis, because of how threatened they feel about this deal.
  • Does anyone really think the the North Koreans and the Iranians care about and will respect an eight year ban on selling the Iranians missile technology? News reports are already circulating that the North Koreans and Iranians are already in negotiations for the selling and buying of long range missile technology.
  • Why would any good negotiator make a deal with an opponent while that opponent continues to threaten death to the the negotiator's interests? Despite the deal, Iranian citizens and high ranking government officials continually still go on record to vow "Death to America" and "Death To Israel?" And Obama wants to give them $100 billion to spend as they like? Insanity.
  • And finally, given this President's track record of lies and deceptions, who can believe anything he says? In fact, if not for a lucky happenstance, we would not know that there are at least two secret agreements that came out of the negotiations that Obama and Kerry had no intention of sharing with Congress or the American people event though the were legally required to so.
I once worked for a boss who had the following great advice: never be so in love with a deal that you cannot walk away from it. This is advice that Obama and Kerry should have used but did not. In their blind haste to get a deal done, any deal done, to build any kind of legacy, they were weak, anemic negotiators vs. the Iranians, bad salesman of the deal to the world and America, and probably have lied about the untold downsides of the deal. Strike one, strike two, strike three.

This is a bad deal for America, a bad deal for the world, a bad deal for humanity. Call your Congress men and women and them to kill this deal and go for a real diplomatic solution, not a politician's solution. And stopp calling Americans crazies, it is so un-Presidential...and this case, plain wrong.

Part 5, Bonus Post: Illegal Immigrants Killing American Citizens is NOT A "Little Thing"....Despite What A Congressman Thinks

A little while ago we discussed the terrible tragedy where a young American citizen, Kate Steinle, was gunned down by an illegal immigration who had seven felony convictions and who had been deported five times. If that was not enough heartache for Ms. Steinle’s family and friends, an Illinois Congressman, Luis Gutierrez, described her cold blooded killing as a “little thing” that got in the way of his political aims for illegal immigrants. As we observed at that time, this is just a cold hearted, despicable thing to say especially when Ms. Steinle’s parents. family members, and boy friend were in mourning for this senseless death.

But this is how far the country has fallen away from respecting those with different opinions and the rule of law. The Congressman views her death as a little thing in the context of his political aims and ambitions. Cities and the politicians across the country who operate them have decided that the rights of illegal immigrants are more important than observing current Federal law and the lives of American citizens.

Thus, I thought it worthwhile to take some discussion time to identify and honor those American citizens that have suffered and died as a result of politicians who think that the the status of illegal immigrants is more important than the lives of American citizens. I am not saying that all illegal immigrants are violent or criminals, the majority are likely not.

But it is important to understand that because the Washington political class has not sealed the border, that Washington politicians have not enforced standing immigration law in so-called “sanctuary cities,” and that local politicians give haven and refuge to illegal immigrants in sanctuary cities, many of whom are criminal elements, Americans are dying. And the mainstream media for the most part of ignored or downplayed these deaths to facilitate the work of people like Congressman Gutierez who thinks that a single, unnecessary American citizen death at the hands of illegal immigrant who never should have been on an American street is a “little thing.”

Note: we thought we would finish this theme a few days ago after four posts but we have come across another set of murders, rapes and other violence as a result of illegal immigrants today or two to complete the discussion.

1) Last week we discussed the Congressional hearings that were recently held and the stories of three American families who had lost loved ones to acts of violence committed by illegal immigrants. As if losing a loved one was not enough agony for these families, the reality is that most of the crimes that we have discussed over the past week were perpetrated by illegal immigrants who had extensive criminal records, had been arrested and convicted of past crimes, and still were allowed to illegally walk the streets of this country, eventually resulting in the unnecessary deaths of American citizens.

Luis Gutierrez is a Congressman from Illinois who is a big advocate for illegal immigrants. He had the nerve and coldheartedness to publicly state that the death of a young American citizen, Kate Steinle, by an illegal immigrant who was a seven time felon and five time deportee was a “little thing.” Despicable that he would put his political agenda ahead of the loss of life of a young American woman.

During the Congressional hearing referenced above, he spoke in very antagonistic terms against those that dared to disagree with his coldness and lack of sympathy for Ms. Steinle’s unnecessary death. The reaction of one of the mothers at that hearing, who had lost a son to an act by an illegal immigrant, Brandon Mendoza, is repeated below:

“As I sat in the hearing room and heard testimony by Jim Steinle and listened to testimony from Jessica Vaughn, it not only broke my heart but also brought back some very familiar, gut-wrenching reactions to additional preventable deaths in America at the hands of criminal illegals allowed to stay in this country as my son’s killer was.

As each of the panel's members began speaking, they vocalized their sincere condolences to Jim Steinle and proceeded to go over their thoughts and their support of stopping the federal funding to Sanctuary Cities as one way to prevent some of the tragic deaths that happen as illegal criminals are released back onto our streets with the high percentage of committing another crime.

When Luis Gutierrez was given the floor to speak, it was apparent by his demeanor that he was not happy. Just the tone of his voice made my skin crawl. As he started ranting and raving about previous statements he had made and then took great effort to spit Jessica Vaughn’s name out of his mouth, all the while raising his voice to a hate-filled scream, I, along with Sabine Darden, Laura Wilkerson and Maria Espinoza, left the hearing room. Not only was I disgusted with his behavior and lack of empathy for the real reason this hearing was taking place, but I was shocked at his demeanor and screaming voice. Sabine, Laura and myself have all lost a child at the hands of an illegal criminal and to see this so called Representative of the people of Illinois speak with such hate and disregard for the victims families in the room was unacceptable. I can’t imagine what Jim Steinle was thinking. Video doesn’t lie Mr. Gutierrez. If he was embarrassed for being quoted while dismissing Kate Steinle’s death as a ‘little thing,’ then shame on him. This hearing was not the time or place to dig himself out of the hole his mouth put him in.

I am asking, as an American citizen who has lost my son Sgt. Brandon Mendoza at the hands of an illegal criminal, that Luis Gutierrez be stopped from being allowed to use precious hearing time as a way to air his displeasure and obvious hate for a witness at hearings he is unfortunately a part of. Especially when that witness is merely repeating words that have come out of his mouth.

This was my first trip to Washington, D.C. and the time spent in the hearing listening to Mr. Gutierrez has left me with a very bad taste in my mouth. I wonder if the people of Illinois who elected him to represent them really know what a rude, uncaring, egotistical jerk they have erroneously elected to be in Washington, D.C.”

Could not have said it better myself. In the area of illegal immigration, as in other areas affecting Americans' lives and families, the Washington political class could not care less about the country or those that live there and support the Federal government. They are mostly concerned only about their own enrichment and perpetual stay in elected office, constituents and their families be damned. To them, we are all just a “little thing” in their ego trip.

More details on the Congressional hearings can be found at:

2) Let’s look at some official government reports on illegal immigration to see how bad the numbers and reality really are:
  • Government Accountability Office report, GAO-050646R, was released on May 9, 2015.
  • That report analyzed crimes committed by 55,322 illegal immigrants who entered the country illegally and were in some type of jail or prison at all levels of government during fiscal year 2003.
  • These illegal immigrants were arrested a total of 459,614 times, averaging about eight arrests per illegal immigrant.
  • 97% of them had more than one arrest, while 26% had over 11 arrests.
  • These 55,000 or so criminals had perpetrated almost 700,000 crimes, an average of 13 crimes per illegal immigrant.
  • 10% of these criminals were arrested for committing 26 or more crimes.
  • 12% of their crimes were for violent crimes such as murder, robbery, assault and sex-related crimes, 15% were for burglary, larceny, theft and property damage, 24% were for drug offenses, and the rest were for DUI, fraud, forgery, counterfeiting, weapons, immigration and obstruction of justice.
  • A whopping 80% of the arrests occurred in just three states: California, Texas, and Arizona.
  • Keep in mind that these staggering crime totals were just for the illegal immigrants that were in jail or prison at the time of the study, it does NOT include illegal immigrant criminals that were still walking the streets.
These crimes were totalled up over twelve years ago. I would bet money that twelve years later, there are more illegal immigrant criminals in the country and that these 2003 numbers, staggering as they are, are probably less than the number of crimes being committed today by illegal immigrant criminals.

I make that claim since according to House Judiciary Committee reports, in 2013 the Obama administration released over 36,000 convicted illegal immigrants criminals onto the streets of America and in 2014 released another 30,558. The Committee also made these observations and conclusions:
  • The crimes that these 66,000 plus people were involved in included “dangerous drugs, assault and domestic violence, stolen vehicles, robbery, sex offenses, sexual assault, kidnaping, voluntary manslaughter, and even homicide.”
  • More than 25% of these released illegal immigrants criminals were classified as “level 1s” which is the worst of the worst of criminal elements, according to the administration. And in 2013 alone, the Obama administration didn’t even bring removal proceedings against an additional 68,000 criminal illegal immigrants who had been convicted of everything from homicide to sexual assault.
  • Thus, in just two years, the Obama administration allowed more than 130,000 violent criminals to continue to be here on our streets illegally, more than double what the GAO quantified back in 2005.
Does Congressman Gutierrez think that these heinous and violent crimes committed by these illegal immigrant criminals are “little things?”

Americans who want a secure border and rational and sane immigration rules and laws are not racists. We think that any unnecessary deaths, in this discussion unnecessary citizen deaths by criminal and violent illegal immigrants, are horrible and not a little thing. We think these unnecessary murders and violence are an absolute disgrace relative to Federal government incompetence and local government’s sanctuary cities and tolerance of criminal illegal immigrants.

To attack and slander Americans who blame the current system for letting multiple felon illegal immigrants to walk our streets is the height of absurdity. Just another example of where logic an adult conversations is choked off by politicians that have their own agendas and personal careers placed ahead of what is right for the welfare and safety of the rest of us.
