October, Part 5, Political Class Insanity: More Delusions, More Lies, More Bad Priorities

It is another month which means it is again time to review the latest political class insanity from Washington and around the world. Political class insanity takes many forms including the wasting of taxpayer wealth, criminal fraud within government programs, inane and stupid political quotes and actions, the inability to create and implement effective and efficient government programs, stupid and ill performing economic policies and strategies, and other forms of insanity that continue to evolve and surprise and shock us.

Let’s get started:

1) It is my opinion that when a left leaning media outlet like the Washington Post dares to be critical of any Democrat or liberal politician, then I sit up and take note. And that is exactly what I did when the Post printed an article by Mark Thiessen that actually dared to criticize Barack Obama as it related to the ill fated, poorly structured, and failure of a nuclear arms deal with Iran:

  • Mr. Thiessen actually wrote: “When it comes to the Iran nuclear deal, the Obama administration increasingly appears to have been a bottomless pit of deception.”
  • He then commences to list the deceptions.
  • First off, Obama intentionally failed to tell about the secret side deals he made with the Iranians when it came to inspections of Iranian nuclear weapon facilities.
  • These side deals were uncovered only when two Republicans accidentally found out about them at a meeting with the International Atomic Energy Agency.
  • Then it became known that Obama had secretly sent a plan to Iran loaded with $400 million in Swiss francs, euros, and other currencies on the same day Iran released four American hostages.
  • Obama then sent two more secret flights carrying $1.3 billion in cash.
  • And most recently, Republicans on the Senate Permanent Subcommittee on Investigations have found out that Obama tried to secretly use U.S. banks to convert $5.7 billion of Iranian assets.
  • This happened after he told Congress Iran would not get access to the U.S. financial system.
  • He then lied to Congress about what his administration had actually done.
  • Specifically: “In July 2015, Obama Treasury Secretary Jack Lew assured the Senate Foreign Relations Committee that, under the nuclear accord, Iran “will continue to be denied access to the [U.S.] financial and commercial market” and that “Iranian banks will not be able to clear U.S. dollars through New York, hold correspondent account relationships with U.S. financial institutions, or enter into financing arrangements with U.S. banks.” A few weeks later, one of Lew’s top deputies, Adam Szubin, used the exact same words in testimony to the Senate banking committee.”
  • Despite this testimony, on February 24, 2016, Obama’s Treasury Department granted a license to help Iran convert those Iranian assets and then proceeded to try and convince two U.S .banks to carry out the deal.
  • In a June, 2016 letter to two Senators, Obama’s Treasury Department declared that, “The U.S. Department of Treasury is not working on behalf of Iran to enable Iranian access to U.S. dollars elsewhere in the international financial system, nor are we assisting Iran in gaining access to dollar payment systems outside the U.S. financial system. The Administration has not been and is not planning to grant Iran access to the U.S. financial system.”
  • In summary, according to the article: “In other words, the Obama administration: (1) told Congress it would not allow Iran access to U.S. financial institutions; (2) issued a special license allowing Iran to do exactly that; (3) unsuccessfully pressured U.S. banks to help Iran; (4) lied to Congress and the American people about what it had done; (5) admitted in internal emails that these efforts “exceeded” U.S. obligations under the nuclear deal; (6) sent officials, including bank regulators around the world to urge foreign financial institutions to do business with Iran; and (7) promised that they would get nothing more than a slap on the wrist for violating U.S. sanctions."
Wow, talk about lying to Congress and the American public. And yet, nobody went to jail, nobody got impeached, nobody had a career cut short even though the lying on just this issue was blatant, recurring, and illegal. And yet Joe Biden recently reiterated the myth that the Obama administration was “scandal free.” Another whopper of a lie and more aspects of a so lame nuclear weapons deal with Iran.

2) We have given hundreds of examples of politicians acting badly. Examples of blatant lies, greed, idiocy, incompetence, bad priorities, and legislative and governance failures. And delusion, as shown again by losing 2016 Presidential candidate Hillary Clinton:

  • For over two years Hillary has blamed a whole variety of reasons why she lost the election, never once really blaming herself for her own failures.
  • And she has recently emerged again with a whole set of weird observations and excuses for her failed campaign.
  • First, she claims that Trump is “obsessed” with her even though he hardly ever mentions her name, indicating a certain level of delusion and paranoia on her part.
  • She views him as a “corrupt human tornado,” ignoring the corruptness of her public life, from lying about so many things (e.g. she did NOT land under sniper fire in Bosnia as she claimed), operating a money laundering scheme known as the Clinton Foundation while Secretary of State, breaking laws and government security protocols by operating and using an unsecure computer server in her home, etc.
  • She claimed that Trump’s victory was “illegitimate,” a belief which has no basis in reality when you consider he had well over 60 million votes and won the Electoral College.
  • She then said she refuses to accept another four years of a Trump Presidency as if she has anything to say about it relative to 120 million voters.

Delusional, bitter, and still bitching two plus years after the fact that she lost to a political novice. Please just go away and leave us alone, we need people in office that come up with forward looking solutions not backward looking resentment.

3) Let’s finish up today with another loony idea and another bad set of priorities, this all from current Democratic Presidential candidate Elizabeth Warren. According to Ryan Saavedra, writing for the Daily Wire website:

  • Warren believes that inmates in prison are “entitled” to get transgender surgery that is paid for by American taxpayers.
  • She made this assertion and view during a recent interview on CNN.
  • This is a reversal of a previous stand where she said it was wrong to have taxpayers pay for this surgery.
  • Specifically: “I believe that everyone is entitled to medical care and medical care that they need and that includes people who are transgender who, um, it is time for them to have [transgender] surgery. I just think that’s important.”
  • She had recently proclaimed that if elected, “I will direct the Bureau of Prisons to end the Trump Administration’s dangerous policy of imprisoning transgender people in facilities based on their sex assigned at birth.”
So much insanity with this, tough to figure out where to begin:

  • Do these prisoners only have a right or are “entitled” to transgender surgery at taxpayer expense while they are in prison or should they get it when they are out of prison?
  • Why are only prisoners, people who have broken the laws of society, entitled to taxpayer funded transgender surgery and not those peaceful citizens that have broken no laws?
  • Why do prisoners have the right to this non-life saving, optional surgery when tens of millions of Americans have no access or cannot afford access to life sustaining medical and health care in this country, shouldn’t that be a higher priority than a minuscule set of people in prison who are not in need of life saving surgery?
  • Where in the Constitution does it say that these folks in prison have a right or are “entitled” to this type of surgery?
As we have said so many times in this blog, current politicians have such a sad and pathetic set of priorities. Millions of American are homeless and hungry, untold millions are in need of drug addiction help, our roads and bridges are falling apart, Social Security and Medicare are hurtling towards financial insolvency, our public schools for the most part do a terrible job educating our kids, issues far more important and far reaching than transgender surgery for prisoners.

These are some serious issues to be faced and addressed in this country. But Warren, like most of her peers in the political class, have no clue how to fix them, As a result they fixate on trivial matters such as funding transgender surgery with taxpayer money, an issue, if it even is an issue, that affects a tiny, tiny fraction of Americans.

More bad priorities, more delusions, and more lies from the American political class, a pretty standard day in the neighborhood.

September, 2019, Part 4,Political Class Insanity: More Wasteful Spending, More Biden Lying, and More Obama Failures

1) In our last post we started talking about the annual “Waste Report” publication that Senator Rand Paul publishes every year. This report identifies and tracks how billions of taxpayer dollars are wasted every year on idiotic programs and projects. This year the Senator identified $50 billion in wasted taxpayer wealth. Other examples include the following spending atrocities:
  • The Department of Veterans Affairs spent $8 million on solar panels that were never used.
  • The Pentagon lost $28 million on heavy equipment that was somehow lost in Afghanistan.
  • The State Department spent subsidizing the Pakistani film industry. In my opinion it would be a waste of $100,000 to subsidize our domestic film industry never a foreign film industry.
  • Half a million dollars were spent studying frog mating calls in Panama, probably one of the most inane and stupid wasteful spending we have ever covered in this blog.
  • The Feds also spent a whopping $10 million on “green growth, whatever that is, in Peru.
As we pointed out in a recent post, there are millions of Americans who are hungry, homeless, and in need of drug addiction treatment and yet the buffoons in Washington spend tax money on this nonsense every year. How many Americans could have been fed if we did not spend half a million dollars on some frogs in Panama? How many homeless shelters could be staffed if we let Peru worry about its own “green growth?” Such bad priorities.

2) One thing you can always rely on is for politicians to lie. We often mused whether these people actually believe the huge whopper lies they tell us or if they think we are too stupid to know or find out they are lying. In fact, we did a whole post on the dozens of lies of Barack Obama at the end of his Presidency, a list that was very impressive in its scope and depth of lying:

Joe Biden, currently the frontrunner to become the Democratic Party Presidential candidate, just got himself caught in another huge lie:
  • Biden was recently interviewed by NPR radio in which he boldly stated: “Immediately, that moment it [the invasion of Iraq during the bush Presidency] started, I came out against the war at that moment.”
  • He seems pretty sure of himself, came out “immediately” against the invasion.
  • But even CNN, the lover of everything Democratic, liberal and Obama-related, called him out on this lie.
  • According to CNN, quoting Biden from a 2003 speech: “Nine months ago, I voted with my colleagues to give the president of the United States of America the authority to use force and I would vote that way again today. It was the right vote then and would be a correct vote today.”
When CNN calls a liberal a liar, you know it was a whopper of a lie. And this clown still wants to be President.

3) One of the great pieces of life advice I ever received was from a work colleague who said: “Never be so in love with a deal that you cannot walk away from that deal at anytime.” That advice has served me well, basically telling me that if you get too close to a deal, to enamored with a deal, to in need of a deal, that you end up getting a blind spot, get taken advantage of, and you do something stupid.

Such may have been the case in a recently uncovered set of shenanigans that Obama pulled in the midst of trying to make a deal with Iran and its nuclear weapons program, a deal that endangered the lives of a lot of people and fortunately he got lucky, no one got hurt:
  • James Mattis, former Secretary of Defense under Trump, recently discussed a terror attack that almost happened because Obama refused to admit he could not walk away from a deal.
  • Mattis claims that if the terror attack had not been thwarted it would have been the “worst terror attack since 9/11.”
  • The attack was planned by, funded, and coordinated by the Iranian government.
  • The plan was to bomb Cafe Milano, a high end restaurant right in Washington DC, a restaurant that was often frequented by rich, famous, and important people including the Saudi Arabian ambassador.
  • According to Mattis, who also held high level intelligence positions under Obama: “Attorney General Eric Holder said the bombing plot was ‘directed and approved by elements of the Iranian government and, specifically, senior members of the Qods Force.’ The Qods were the Special Operations Force of the Revolutionary Guards, reporting to the top of the Iranian government.”
  • Mattis says that the Obama administration knew this for a fact, they had the intelligence data to prove it, and “had recorded Tehran’s approval of the operation.”
  • Mattis says that, “Had the bomb gone off, those in the restaurant and on the street would have been ripped apart, blood rushing down sewer drains. It would have been the worst attack on us since 9/11. I sensed that only Iran’s impression of America’s impotence could have led them to risk such an act within a couple of miles of the White House, Absent one fundamental mistake — the terrorists had engaged an undercover DEA agent in an attempt to smuggle the bomb — the Iranians would have pulled off this devastating attack. Had that bomb exploded, it would have changed history.”
  • Nasty stuff, a foreign government sponsoring terror right in our own capital city.
  • And yet, Obama did nothing in response, treating it as a small time criminal matter and not a major terror threat.
  • And the reason for this tepid response is that Obama was too in love with a potential deal to walk away from it, namely he was desperate from a legacy perspective get a nuclear arms deal with Iran.
  • If he had responded strongly, and correctly, to a terror threat on our shores, the Iranians might have walked away from Obama’s nuclear arms treaty dream.
  • Mattis thought Obama should have walked away from the Iranians and for his opinion he got fired: “In my view, we had to hold Iran to account and strike back when attacked. But there was a reason for the administration’s restraint. The administration was secretly negotiating with Iran, although I was not privy to the details at the time.”
  • Obama eventually got his treasured Iranian nuclear deal but it turned out to be a bomb, as Mattis points out: “In my military judgment, America had undertaken a poorly calculated, long-shot gamble. At the same time, the administration was lecturing our Arab friends that they had to accommodate Iran as if it were a moderate neighbor in the region and not an enemy committed to their destruction. As long as its leaders consider Iran less a nation-state than a revolutionary cause, Iran will remain a terrorist threat potentially more dangerous than Al Qaeda or ISIS.”
And Mattis, and Trump, were right. Obama claimed that this agreement would force the Iranians to curtail their nuclear actions, reduce their worldwide terrorism actions, and make life better for ordinary Iranians. But none of Obama’s objectives were achieved: the lives of ordinary Iranians got worse, not better, leading to scattered rioting against the Iranians rulers and, if anything, Iranian terror activities across the Middle East and the world of went up, not down, and the Iranians had no trepidations about attacking us on our own turf while negotiating with Obama.

Never be so in love with a deal that you cannot walk away. Some advice that Obama failed to adhere to which resulted in Obama downplaying an act of war and showed the Iranians what a lack of a backbone he had. This realization and Obama’s desperation led to the one sided, corrupt, and failed nuclear arms deal, potential harm to Americans from a domestic terror attack be damned.

Wasting Americans’ tax dollars, lying to Americans, and endangering Americans for a Presidential ego trip, insanity.

July, 2018, Part 2, Political Class Insanity: Bill Clinton Buries the FBI Deeper and More Obama/Iran Shenanigans

1) We recently did a post on how far down the corruption rabbit hole the FBI and Justice Department have fallen as a result of the Obama administration:

https://loathemygovernment.blogspot.com/2018/06/the-disgrace-and-dishonor-of-fbi.html

And now, courtesy of recent Bill Clinton remarks, we have more proof that they may have been even more corrupt than we thought possible:

  • Prior to the 2016 Presidential election, Bill Clinton had what was supposed to be a secret meeting with then Attorney General Loretta Lynch on the tarmac of a Phoenix airport.
  • Most people probably rightly believed that the meeting was to force Lynch to go easy on Hillary Clinton’s use of an unauthorized and unsecured computer server in her home that broke both Federal law and government guidelines and edicts on computer security.
  • Obviously, if Hillary Clinton violated Federal law and was put under investigation and possible arrest by the Justice Department, her chances of becoming President would be nil.
  • So why did Bill Clinton risk this obvious conflict of interest visit with Lynch?
  • Apparently he thought it was no big deal meeting with her, according to testimony he gave recently to government investigators since he says the FBI already knew about the illegal and unsecured computer server and had no problem with it: “WELL WHAT I DIDN’T WANT TO DO IS TO LOOK LIKE I WAS HAVING SOME BIG HUDDLE-UP SESSION WITH HER YOU KNOW….[b]ecause it was a paranoid time, but...I knew what I believed to be the truth of that whole thing. It was after, all my server and the FBI knew it was there and the Secret Service approved it coming in and she just used what was mine."
  • In other words, what is the big deal about the meeting, everyone knew about the computer, no need to beg with Lynch to overlook the violations and law breaking.
This testimony, if true, is mind boggling on how corrupt the FBI, the Justice Department, and Hillary Clinton were and still are:

  • If the FBI already knew that Hillary had an illegal and unsecured server, then was the entire FBI investigation into her use of such computer a total sham since they knew up front it existed and Comey’s public comments back in July, 2016 were just a cover up to a pre-ordained result?
  • If the FBI knew the computer server existed prior to even starting their supposed investigation, did they already know she was using it illegally for work related government emails?
  • Does that mean Hillary lied to the FBI when they asked her during their “official” investigation if she was using the server for secret government documents knowing that it was a big charade since the FBI already knew the answer to the question?
If Bill Clinton is right, and the FBI knew long before they started their Hillary investigation that she had an unsecured, illegal server, then the corruption of the FBI and Justice Department goes even deeper than already known, another blotch on Obama’s legacy.

2) Obama thought that the nuclear arms deal he cut with Iran would be one of his crowning achievements. But let’s face it, he had no crowning achievements and the Iranian deal is no different. Almost immediately after the deal was inked, it became apparent that Obama and John Kerry were horrible negotiators and gave the Iranians everything they wanted and got nothing in return.

The Freedom Outpost website recently ran a summary of how badly Obama and Kerry performed relative to the Iranians:

  • In a recent interview with an Iranian newspaper, Hojjat al-Islam Mojtaba Zolnour, chairman of Iran’s parliamentary nuclear committee, claimed that the Obama administration gave 2,500 Iranian officials and family members U.S citizenship as part of the nuclear deal, a little piece of news that Obama never shared with the rest of the country.
  • You know, the country that continually claims “Death To America,” Obama allowed 2,500 of those types of people to not only get into the country but granted them citizenship.
  • But this is just the latest affront to Americans and the poor negotiating talent of Obama and Kerry: remember when Obama secretly sent a plane to Iran containing an astounding $400 million in foreign currency cash to get the return of four American hostages, an action that violated official government policy to not negotiate with terrorist countries.
  • But Obama then doubled down by subsequently secretly sending TWO planes with another $1.3 billion.
  • We now know via two American politicians who found out at an International Atomic Energy Agency meeting that Obama secretly cut secret side deals with the Iranians relative to easing inspections on Iran’s nuclear operations, a little detail that Obama never shared with Congress.
  • Last month it came to light that Obama’s administration secretly tried to illegally use U.S. banks to launder $5.7 billion for Iran and then lied to Congress about it.
What a disgrace and a failure of negotiating. Iran got everything and Obama and Kerry secretly basically gave it do them just to build what turns out to be a false Obama legacy. And then lied about it to Americans and Congress. Insanity.

A great piece of advice I received long ago in the business world was that you should never be so in love with a deal that you cannot walk away from. Obviously, Obama and Kerry never heard this advice and as a result the world got stuck with a terrible deal that never stopped Iran from running wild in e Middle East with their intrusive terrorism efforts and proxies and never really slowed down their missile and nuclear arms efforts.

That will do it for today’s political class insanity: an Obama Presidency that lied so many times relative to the Iran nuclear deal and Bill Clinton testifying that the FBI and Secret Service knew about Hillary’s illegal server before they stated to “investigate” whether or not she had and used an illegal computer server, proving again how corrupt the FBI became during the Obama years. More insanity to follow.

Why The Iran Nuclear Weapons Deal Stinks

As most concerned Americans know, President Obama and Secretary of State John Kerry reached a tentative agreement with the Iranian government several months ago to theoretically halt the march of the Iranians to becoming a nuclear arms power. In the next few weeks, Congress will debate and then vote on whether to approve the deal.

Rather than trying to sell the deal to the American people on its merits and upsides, and perhaps showing some leadership in the process, this administration has continued its long established ways of demeaning, ridiculing, and name calling those that have concerns or doubts about the deal.

The President has called those that oppose the deal "crazies" even though the majority of Americans who have an opinion about the deal do not want it approved. Which is just the typical condescending attitude that this President has had against anyone who dares disagree with him. John Kerry has been out of sight and out of mind the past few weeks, obviously not trying to sell the deal to America either.

As a result, a number of thoughtful people have put forth, in very concise, easily understandable ways, why this is a bad deal. Why the President has not addressed these points  rather than just say they are wrong and to blindly trust him, is another example of the absence of leadership skills of this Presidency.

Judge and comment for yourself after reading the following rebuttals to the proposed deal. If you believe that these rebuttals are an accurate description of reality of the deal and worry of the major consequences such a putrid deal will do the the Middle East and our own security, I strongly suggest that you call your Congressional reps right away and deal them to reject the deal.

If you think that the President can be trusted and that he is not shopping for a foreign policy legacy win, i.e. he will do anything to make it look like a winning deal just to enhance his legacy, then you can sit back and watch a new nuclear arms race unfold in the Middle East, watch Iran hype up its terrorism activities across the world, and watch Iran work on how to put its eventual nuclear weapons on the tip of an intercontinental missile. And the President calls us that oppose this deal the crazies.

The first set of logical objections to this deal come from the website of former Congressman Allen West:

1. Iran is the number one state sponsor of Islamic terrorism and has not evidenced any desire to curtail their activities. In fact, given the Ayatollah’s comments, sounds to me like they want to ratchet it up.

2. The JCPOA [the tentative deal] does not gradually relieve economic sanctions against Iran; it does so immediately to the tune of $115 billion in unfrozen assets released to the number one sponsor of Islamic terrorism.

3. In year five, the JCPOA allows the U.N. ban on conventional weapons for Iran to expire, which means the number one state sponsor of Islamic terrorism can legally buy and sell arms. Iran, however, has already entered into talks with Russia and China to purchase new aerial refueling tankers and fighter jets, and the Chinese are seeking an exchange of the fighter jets for oil. And incidentally, General Qassem Suleimani, who heads the Iranian Quds Force – a designated terrorist organization – violated an international travel ban by going to Russia to meet with their defense minister and Russian president Vladimir Putin.

4. In year eight, the JCPOA lifts the U.N. weapons ban on ballistic missiles for Iran, a country where the leadership chants “Death to Israel” and “Death to America.”

5. In year ten, Iran can return its centrifuges to full operational capability and enrich uranium. In the meantime, Iran has the authority to do its own inspections, and the original requirement of immediate, “no notification” inspections has been replaced with a 24-day advance notification process.

6. Finally, in year fifteen, the number one state sponsor of Islamic terrorism is allowed to build new nuclear reactors. We’re not stopping them; merely delaying.

The second source debunking the details of the deal come from Michaela Dodge writing for the Heritage Foundation. She specializes in missile defense, nuclear weapons modernization and arms control as policy analyst for defense and strategic policy in The Heritage Foundation’s Allison Center for Foreign Policy Studies. Her recent writings include the following top line realities:

  • Recently, over 900 rabbis formally announced their opposition to the deal.
  • Almost 200 retired U.S. generals and admirals signed a joint letter urging Congress to reject the deal while the White House could only round up 30 former military leaders to support the deal.
  • Even though the majority of Americans and Israelis polled are in favor of a diplomatic answer to the Iranian problem, the majority of them do not want THIS deal to be the diplomatic answer.

She then goes on to rebut specific points of the deal, much like Mr. West did above, providing concrete examples of why this is a bad deal:

1) “This deal blocks every pathway Iran might take to obtain a nuclear weapon.” This statement is untrue. A piece of paper cannot stop a determined country from obtaining a nuclear weapon. The cash-strapped regime in North Korea is a great example.

To make matters worse, the deal does not dismantle Iran’s uranium enrichment infrastructure, which was developed in defiance of Iran’s international obligations.

The deal effectively rewards years of Iran’s violations of its international obligations with billions of dollars to fund terrorism and lifts sanctions on advanced technologies and materials usable in Iran’s nuclear program, including Tehran’s ballistic missile program.

The deal even opens a path for Iran to buy functioning parts of a nuclear weapon.

2) “It ensures that centrifuges are removed except for a handful.” Usually, a handful does not mean thousands, as is the case with the number of Iranian centrifuges the deal leaves untouched.

Additionally, the deal allows Iran to continue research and development of more advanced types of centrifuges, including letting Iran operate them by hundreds. None of the centrifuges will be destroyed. And they are only a part of the problem. Maintaining skilled people who know how to manage the centrifuges is just as serious.

Should Iran decide that the deal is no longer in its interest, it will be in an excellent position to restore its capabilities fast.

The United States will not be able to impose a sanctions regime that would be as rigorous as the existing regime, which is a result of years of labor and hundreds of trips of U.S. officials to foreign banks.

Once cash starts flowing, it will be immensely difficult to re-impose these sanctions. Sanctions relief is front-loaded, further reducing Iran’s incentive to not follow through with all its obligations.

3) “But this deal does not rely on trust. It relies on verification.” How will members of Congress know if Iran is cheating, let alone the American people, since the administration has failed to provide documents outlining details of verification? In fact, neither Secretary of State John Kerry nor Secretary of Energy Ernest Moniz has read these documents.

Just last week, it became clear that Iran will be allowed to use its own inspectors to investigate sites suspected of conducting nuclear weapon work. This is akin to letting a fox guard a chicken coop. The verification regime is particularly weak when it comes to undeclared/covert activities and activities that do not involve radioactive material.

Iran can hold up inspectors for months and will be provided information about where covert activities are occurring, making it easier to cover them.

Iran has been lying, cheating, and covering up its nuclear activities for years. Americans and the International Atomic Energy Agency, responsible for deal’s verification, have been surprised more than once in the past regarding Iran’s illicit nuclear activities.

4) “We are not giving away anything in this deal in terms of our capacity to respond if they chose to cheat.” Obama will be putting future American presidents in a tough position.

This is because Iran will be able to spend billions of dollars on terrorist activities—and the United States and allies will be on the receiving end of these activities. Tehran will be able to obtain advanced weaponry from Russia and China, certainly complicating U.S. options should Iran decide to cheat.

A couple of points of emphasis to add unto the points made above:

  • North Korea became a dangerous nuclear power despite having virtually no economy and being one of the poorest nations in the world. Imagine how much easier it will be for Iran to become a nuclear power once we give it over $100 billion to spend as it pleases.
  • Effective economic sanctions will never be reimposed since China and Russia, two of the five members of the United Nations Security Council will not allow it since they will benefit economically from the deal and politically in their quest to grow their power and influence at the expense of the United States.
  • The Obama/Kerry negotiating team was so weak that they could not even negotiate the release of four American citizens being held in Iranian jails despite giving the Iranians over $100 billion in sanctions relief. This point alone establishes how poorly the U.S. negotiated for this deal.
  • News reports have stated that the Saudis are already in the market to purchase nuclear weapons, lord knows they have enough money to do so, likely buying their nuclear weapons technology from the Pakistanis, because of how threatened they feel about this deal.
  • Does anyone really think the the North Koreans and the Iranians care about and will respect an eight year ban on selling the Iranians missile technology? News reports are already circulating that the North Koreans and Iranians are already in negotiations for the selling and buying of long range missile technology.
  • Why would any good negotiator make a deal with an opponent while that opponent continues to threaten death to the the negotiator's interests? Despite the deal, Iranian citizens and high ranking government officials continually still go on record to vow "Death to America" and "Death To Israel?" And Obama wants to give them $100 billion to spend as they like? Insanity.
  • And finally, given this President's track record of lies and deceptions, who can believe anything he says? In fact, if not for a lucky happenstance, we would not know that there are at least two secret agreements that came out of the negotiations that Obama and Kerry had no intention of sharing with Congress or the American people event though the were legally required to so.
I once worked for a boss who had the following great advice: never be so in love with a deal that you cannot walk away from it. This is advice that Obama and Kerry should have used but did not. In their blind haste to get a deal done, any deal done, to build any kind of legacy, they were weak, anemic negotiators vs. the Iranians, bad salesman of the deal to the world and America, and probably have lied about the untold downsides of the deal. Strike one, strike two, strike three.

This is a bad deal for America, a bad deal for the world, a bad deal for humanity. Call your Congress men and women and them to kill this deal and go for a real diplomatic solution, not a politician's solution. And stopp calling Americans crazies, it is so un-Presidential...and this case, plain wrong.

July,2015, Part 3, Politicians Say The Darndest Things: Obama and a Nuclear Deal With Iran Edition

Ever so often we run a series of posts under the theme, “Politicians say the darndest things.” It is a parody of an old television show, “House Party,” where host Art Linkletter would ask simple questions of young kids and wait for their often funny responses. This segment of his show was called “Kids Say The Darndest Things.”

Unfortunately when kids say silly or dumb things, it is funny. When politicians say silly or dumb things, there are usually serious ramifications across the land that often involve stupid laws, wasteful spending, self delusion of a politician’s intelligence or abilities, or a continued lack of faith that today’s politicians are smart enough to get anything right.

The past two days we have discussed general idiocy that has come out of several politicians' mouths lately. Today, will be the final update to our series, "politicians say the darndest things," and we will focus on the proposed nuclear arms deal that the Obama administration has put together with several other countries and the main protagonist, Iran.

The intent of the deal was to prevent the country of Iran from becoming a nuclear power. By promising to give up their pursuit of nuclear weapons, Iran is to be granted a number of benefits including the release of over $100 billion worth of assets frozen around the world.

There are a number of concerns about this deal:

  • Will Iran use these now unfrozen assets to help make the lives of their citizens better or will they use these assets to continue to spread terrorism around the Middle East and around the world?
  • Will this Iran deal cause others in the Middle East to move toward becoming nuclear weapon ready also since they do not trust Iran to not continue to pursue nuclear weapons or to increase their conventional weapon aggression against them, resulting in a nuclear arms race because of an agreement that was supposed to contain the spread of nuclear weapons?
  • Will Iran actually live up to the terms of the agreement and not pursue nuclear weapons as promised in the text of the deal?
All very serious questions but today we will focus on politicians' quotes as it relates to the last point. You see, the world and the U.S. have been down this path before with a renegade country known as North Korea. Twenty years or so ago, the President of the U.S., Bill Clinton, thought he had a nuclear arms containment deal with the North Koreans, much like Barack Obama thinks he has a nuclear containment deal with the Iranians today.

As we look and compare the quotes from the two Presidents, their promises and bold predictions seem eerily similar. The question arises is that given that North Korea completely blew off the deal, using it as cover to develop its nuclear weapons development and capability, are the similarity in Presidential quotes a precursor to the Iranians doing the exact same thing, i.e. taking a President of the United States for a fallacy ride?

You decide, starting with a press release from Congressman Peter Roskam  who introduced a Congressional resolution that has been backed by 176 House members expressing their disapproval of the deal with Iran. The press release than goes on to categorize and compare the quotes of Clinton and Obama relative to North Korea and Iran's race for nuclear weapons and the supposed deal that would stop both of them. According to the Congressman:

"In 1994, President Bill Clinton similarly argued that his nuclear agreement with North Korea would reduce “the threat of nuclear spreading in the region.” However, that deal stumbled out of the gate. In 2003, Pyongyang withdrew from the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty. In 2005, it announced completion of a nuclear weapon. And in 2006, North Korea successfully completed its first nuclear test.

A closer comparison between President Clinton’s North Korea agreement in 1994 and President Obama’s Iran deal in 2015 reveal stark, foreboding similarities. Should we take this Administration’s assurances seriously? You decide:"

***********
CLINTON: “Today, after 16 months of intense and difficult negotiations with North Korea, we have completed an agreement [my emphasis] that will make the United States, the Korean Peninsula, and the world safer…This agreement will help to achieve a longstanding and vital American objective: an end to the threat of nuclear proliferation on the Korean Peninsula.”

OBAMA: “Today, after two years of negotiations, the United States, together with our international partners, has achieve something that decades of animosity has not—a comprehensive, long-term deal with Iran that will prevent it from obtaining a nuclear weapon.”

***********

CLINTON: “The United States has been concerned about the possibility that North Korea was developing nuclear weapons since the 1980s.”

OBAMA: “[W]e’re dealing with a country—Iran—that has been a sworn adversary of the United States for over 35 years.”
***********

CLINTON: “This agreement represents the first step on the road to a nuclear-free Korean Peninsula. It does not rely on trust. Compliance will be certified by the International Atomic Energy Agency [(IAEA]].”

OBAMA: “Because of this deal, we will, for the first time, be in a position to verify all of these commitments. That means this deal is not built on trust: it is built on verification…Put simply, the organization responsible for the inspections, the IAEA, will have access where necessary, when necessary.”
***********

CLINTON: “And the United States has an unshakeable commitment to protect our ally and our fellow democracy South Korea. Thirty-eight thousand American troops stationed on the Peninsula are the guarantors of that commitment.”

OBAMA: “We will continue our unprecedented efforts to strengthen Israel’s security—efforts that go beyond what any American administration has done before.”
***********

CLINTON: “This agreement is good for the United States, good for our allies, and good for the safety of the entire world.”

OBAMA: “I am confident this deal will meet the national security interest of the United States and our allies.”
***********

CLINTON: “Today all Americans should know that as a result of this achievement on Korea, our Nation will be safer and the future of our people more secure.”

OBAMA: “Today’s announcement marks one more chapter in the pursuit of a safer and more helpful and more hopeful world.”
***********

Now, the fact that North Korea ignored the deal back during the Clinton administration does not mean that the Iranians will ignore this deal. For all I know, they may be giving up their pursuit of nuclear weapons, will stop promoting terrorism, stop hating Israel and the United States, and behave well going forward. The fact that Clinton said the darndest things over twenty years ago does not mean that Obama words will end up looking as sad and pathetic twenty years from now.

But let's be honest, even after the deal was signed between the U.S., other nations, and Iran, leaders and protesters on the streets in Iran were still calling for death to Israel and death to the U.S. I would bet that the odds of Iran following the lead of North Korea are far higher than the odds that Iran will behave.

Let's look at another set of quotes relative to Clinton and Obama that was put together by the website, www.wnd.com, and is in the same vein as the Congressman's listing above:

***********

Clinton: This agreement will help to achieve a longstanding and vital American objective: an end to the threat of nuclear proliferation on the Korean Peninsula.

Obama: …Iran will never be permitted to develop a nuclear weapon.
***********

Clinton: It does not rely on trust.

Obama: So this deal is not based on trust, it’s based on unprecedented verification.
***********

Clinton: Compliance will be certified by the International Atomic Energy Agency.

Obama: …what we’re going to be doing is setting up a mechanism whereby, yes, I.A.E.A. (International Atomic Energy Agency) inspectors can go anyplace.
***********

Clinton: Under the agreement, North Korea has agreed to freeze its existing nuclear program and to accept international inspection of all existing facilities.

Obama: …a deal to stop the progress of Iran’s nuclear program and roll it back in key areas.
***********

Clinton: This agreement represents the first step on the road to a nuclear-free Korean Peninsula.

Obama: This framework would cut off every pathway that Iran could take to develop a nuclear weapon.
***********

Clinton: …we have completed an agreement that will make the United States, the Korean Peninsula, and the world safer.

Obama: …if this framework leads to a final, comprehensive deal, it will make our country, our allies, and our world safer.
***********

Clinton: The United States and North Korea have also agreed to ease trade restrictions and to move toward establishing liaison offices in each other’s capitals.

Obama: In return for Iran’s actions, the international community has agreed to provide Iran with relief from certain sanctions — our own sanctions, and international sanctions imposed by the United Nations Security Council.
***********

Clinton: These offices will ease North Korea’s isolation.

Obama: …if Iran complies with its international obligations, then it can fully rejoin the community of nations…

***********

Clinton: This agreement is good for the United States, good for our allies, and good for the safety of the entire world.

Obama: And it is a good deal, a deal that meets our core objectives … we are more likely to be safe, more likely to be secure, in a better position to protect our allies.
***********

Clinton: It’s a crucial step toward drawing North Korea into the global community.

Obama: …there was an appetite among the Iranian people for a rejoining with the international community.
***********

Clinton: And the United States has an unshakable commitment to protect our ally and our fellow democracy South Korea.

Obama: …a very clear message to the Iranians and to the entire region that if anybody messes with Israel, America will be there.
***********

Clinton: We will continue to work closely with our allies and with the Congress as our relationship with North Korea develops.

Obama: But I say that hoping that we can conclude this diplomatic arrangement — and that it ushers a new era in U.S.-Iranian relations — and, just as importantly, over time, a new era in Iranian relations with its neighbors

If you want to see how these quotes from Clinton and Obama sound in their own voices, go to the follwing link:

Given the devious nature of North Korea and the similar nature of Iran and its leaders, does anyone really think that giving the Iranians a deal like Clinton gave the North Koreans is going to end any differently? Again, twenty years from now, I would be willing to bet that we will look back at Obama and say he said the darndest, and most incorrect things, when he went shopping for a self-serving legacy with this deal with Iran, at any cost.

As a result, he further endangered the world and this country while achieving to look as silly and ransacked as Clinton and his quotes now look relative to the nuclear deal with North Korea.

Yes, politicians say the darndest things and many times they are both naive and dangerous as their rhetoric fails to match the reality of the tyrants they capitulate to.
