January, 2024, Part 8, Political Class Insanity: Biden's Lower and Lower Approval Ratings, Oregon's Failed Drug Addiction Approach, and More

Every month we devote posts to just general political class insanity that is running rampant through the country. The members of the American political class continue to show that they are incapable of operating any level of government in this country.

Even their best efforts are almost always inefficient and ineffective at resolving any problem facing Americans. They spend a great amount of time not trying to improve the lives of their citizens but continually ensuring their reelection and enriching themselves, their families, and their friends in the process, all at taxpayer expense.

1)Over many years we have constantly pointed out how the American political class has probably wasted trillions of taxpayer dollars via ineffective programs, corruption, and stupidity. And it seems like Americans are finally understanding how poorly our politicians have handled our hard earned tax dollars:

  • A recent Associated Press public opinion poll done in conjunction with the University of Chicago found that two out of three respondents feel that they pay too much in Federal income taxes.

  • Seven out of ten Americans feel they spend too much on local property taxes.

  • Only 6% of those polled think that the Federal  government will  spend their Federal tax dollars in the best interest of “people like them” and only 16% think their local politicians will spend their local taxes in the best interest of “people like them.

  • Younger people have less confidence  than  older folks that their tax dollars will be spent wisely.

  • Half of those polled said they would be willing to see fewer government services if it meant reducing their tax bill.

  • Only 1 in 4 people say they are getting good value for paying their Federal income tax, state sales tax, and local property tax.

  • The majority of those polled say they find their local and Federal tax burdens as unfair.

  • Relatively small minorities across all  types of taxes understand how their taxes are calculated.

Maybe, just maybe Americans are finally figuring out how much politicians squander our hard earned tax dollars. They always fail to clean up corruption and criminals stealing our tax dollars while the necessary government programs that would make our lives better never seem to materialize.

2)And while Americans are realizing how bad their overall political class is performing relative to their hard earned tax dollars, they are also realizing how horrible the Biden administration has been:

  • A recent poll by Gallup found that Biden’s Presidential performance at this point in  his administration is the lowest performance rating since Jimmy Carter’s failed Presidency.

  • An average of 12 recent polls found his approval rating across those polls to be  39.8%, barely ahead of Carter’s 37.4%.

  • This 39.8% is 10 points lower than his approval rate after the first year of his Presidency.

Congrats to Americans for realizing how bad a President Biden has been: high inflation, high mortgage rates, failed  international relations and foreign policy, wars breaking out all over the war which are getting U.S. service personnel killed, higher and higher crime rates, an abysmal immigration disaster, widespread corruption in the FBI and Department of Justice, etc.

3)American  politicians not only misuse taxpayer funds and never have the right solution to resolve any problems, they can also be sleezy when  it comes to  sexual  harassment:

  • The Justice Department recently concluded that former New York  governor, Andrew Cuomo, sexually harassed at least 13 state employees when he  was governor.

  • This conclusion follows after the state attorney general concluded back in 2021 that Cuomo had sexually harassed multiple women which was a violation of state and Federal  law.

  • The Department of Justice report ran 165 pages and stated that Cuomo created a work environment that was “rife with fear and intimidation” which allowed the harassment to occur in a hostile work environment.

Whether anything will come of this report remains to be seen but if these findings are true, it is disgusting that another politician has been behaving badly from a sexual harassment perspective. Not unlike what the current President did over his decades in power and in office:

4)One crisis that the political class has never come close to resolving is the plague of drug addiction in this country. Well over 100,000 Americans die every year from drug addiction. The drug addiction crisis has made Mexican drug cartels very wealthy and dangerous. Drug addiction is a driving force behind the growing homelessness crisis in the country.

And apparently the state of Oregon is learning that their politicians in that state also have no clue how to address the problem:

  • The state politicians decided that they were going to decriminalize drug possession  in their state three years ago.

  • Their actions caused Oregon to become a state with one of the highest drug overdose deaths in the country.

  • Their decriminalization law allowed individuals caught with small amounts of hard drugs to face small fines, e.g. possession of less than a gram of heroin had a rarely enforced fine of $100 associated with possession.

  • The resultant problems of the law has led 60% of state residents to conclude the ill fated law has led to increased homelessness, addiction, and crime.

  • Now the state politicians are putting together legislation that would reverse their original decriminalization law.

  • Under the reversal proposal, possession fines could be as high as $1,250 and get someone 30 days in jail.

Another set of politicians, another failure relative to resolving a major societal  problem.

5)Many many times we have reviewed how millions of Americans are suffering today:

  • At any one time there are about 600,000 homeless Americans living on the street.

  • 17 million Americans are facing difficulties feeding themselves and their families.

  • Over 100,000 Americans die every year from drug overdoses.

And despite this suffering, the Washington political class is spending $20 billion elsewhere:

  • According to the Open the Books organization, Washington has spent $20,000,000,000 on illegal immigrants for “refugee and entrant assistance.”

  • The billions of dollars was spent via the Office of Refugee Resettlement which is part of the Health and Human Services organization.

  • $8,925 billion was spent in fiscal 2022 and $19.928 billion was spent in fiscal 2023.

  • Some of this money was spent on giving immigrants cash for college or technical school training while American families had to pay for these school options themselves.

As always, let’s do some basic math:

  • That $20 billion could theoretically feed every homeless American three meals a day for over 10 years.

  • That $20 billion could theoretically give over 3 million drug addicts a year of addiction treatment.

You get the idea: Washington would rather spend billions and billions of dollars on illegal immigrants in this one of many illegal immigrant  programs than help out struggling Americans. Some things never change.

That will do it for today: immigrants and refugees are still more important than Americans, politicians still have  no idea how to fix the drug addiction problem, politicians can still be sexual harassment deviants, Biden’s approval numbers sink as his Presidency fails, and Americans are not happy about how their tax dollars are being spent.
