November, 2013 The Unfolding Disaster That Is Obama Care Update, Part 4: Americans Still Losing Coverage, A Half Hearted Presidnetial Apology and More

This is our fourth and not last post this month that are reviewing the chaos and pain that the Obama Care legislation is inflicting on Americans and the country. We have done these series over the past three months and the really sad part of the whole situation is that we cannot keep up with the onslaught of disasters that this legislation has spawned. It is by far the worst piece of legislation ever written by the Washington political class.

Thus, we continue today to point out how Americans are losing access to their doctors and insurance plans, how the costs of this law is skyrocketing, how the political class and the government bureaucracy that it operates I so inept, etc.

1) A South Carolina, Bill Elliott man was diagnosed and has been fighting cancer. He claims his old insurance was providing him with the doctors and treatment he required but that insurance was terminated because of Obama Care’s rules and  regulations. His insurance replacement options are so expensive that he’s decided to give up and “let nature take its course” rather than put his family under the financial burden of paying for the new, much higher insurance that Obama Care requires.

So very sad that Obama Care is making Americans choose between life and death, especially after having had his health situation and costs under control. When the President coldly, and incorrectly, suggests that only 5% of Americans are losing their current access to their insurance policies and doctors, think about people like Bill Elliott and the tremendously difficult decision has to make as a result of Obama C are.

Mr. Elliott’s recent television interview can be viewed at:

2) NBC’s newscaster Chuck Todd interviewed the President last week and during that interview the President put forth a weak hearted apology to those Americans who have lost their access to their current, preferred doctors and insurance plans, as well as incorrectly put the number of Americans in that situation as a result of Obama Care at a low balled 5% estimate. During an interview of Mr. Todd on the Hugh Hewitt show on Friday of that week with guest host Carol Platt Liebau, Todd said, “You know, he does not believe he lied on this, and that’s the sense I get.”

And that is the same sense that many, many Americans get. This President is so wrapped up in himself, so narcissistic that he cannot believe anything that he is involved with could fail. This prevent him from showing any compassion to the endangered health care status he has forced on millions of Americans or to take the required steps to fix what Obama Care has broken, ands that really is the true danger to Americans today, the arrogance of this President.

3) The current uproar about millions of Americans losing access to their current insurance plans and doctors is concentrated in the individual insurance market where people go directly to an insurance company to purchase health insurance. It does not affect those insurance policies for Americans who get their health insurance from their employers. Those people were given a one year delay in any changes by the Obama administration a few months ago, a move that was in violation of the law and probably illegal but that is a discussion for another day.

However, a one year delay from Obama Care chaos does not eliminate the chaos. According to various news reports including an extensive analysis from the McCatchy news service,  an Obama administration report in 2010 estimated that as many as 69% of certain employer-based insurance plans would lose that protection. McCatchy estimates that this means as many as 41 million people could lose their employer provided health insurance plans even if they wanted to keep them.

Another 11 million Americans who bought their own insurance also could lose their plans. Combined, as many as 52 million Americans could lose or have lost old insurance plans, far more than the President’s recent assertion that only 5% of Americans would lose their plans.

For a look at a more in-depth view of the McCatchy analysis and historical tracking of how this dire situation arose. A situation that Obama promised would never occur, go to the following link:

4) Last month we reported how almost a million Americans just in California were losing access to their current health insurance polices and preferred doctors as a result of Obama Care. The Denver Post recently reported that the situation is not any better in Colorado as a result of Obama Care:

Nearly 250,000 Coloradans are learning from their insurers this fall that their existing health coverage is being cancelled, many as a result of the Affordable Care Act, the state insurance division said Wednesday.

The Colorado Division of Insurance responded to reporters’ queries to tally up the canceled policy notices, which are being issued to customers with 2013 health insurance in place.

The division said some of the cancellations are because of the controversial Affordable Care Act provision that all 2014 policies meet minimum standards; other cancellations are simply insurance companies making business decisions, division officials added.

So much for keeping your current insurance policy if you like it as promised by the President, at least in California and Colorado.

5) A November 8, 2013 article from the Washington Examiner tallied up the number of Americans who had obtained insurance via the Obama Care Washington D.C. health exchange after the first month:

  • CareFirst BlueCross BlueShield: Two enrollees as of Oct. 30
  • Kaiser Permanente: Three enrollees as of Oct. 31
  • UnitedHealthcare: None reported as of Nov. 4
  • Aetna: None reported as of Oct. 24

Thus, after more than a month of being open for business, the D.C. exchange had signed up a grand total of ….five people. Pathetic results form a pathetic law from a pathetic operational rollout.

6) Many people, including a number of people in Congress, have expressed concerns that the Obama Care sign up website was built so poorly from a personal information security perspective that it would be “an identity thief’s paradise” and a “hacker’s wet dream.” Well, just one month into this debacle it seems that these predictions are coming true, at least fro an American in the St. Louis area.

When she called Obama Care’s 800 number to reaccess the personal information she put into the Obama Care exchnage sign up system because she had forgotten her password, she was notified by the person on the 800 number that three other people had already accessed her information in just a matter of days. Even worse, the 800 number rep could not provide the woman an answer when her personal information would be taken down off of the system, leaving her open to more security lapse incidents. The news report of this tragedy can be seen at:

7) Sometimes security breaches are not the result of hackers, just government incompetence. Consider the situation of Justin Hadley of North Carolina. According to a report from the Heritage Foundation, when Mr. Hadley recently logged on to Obama Care’s website,  HealthCare.gov, to evaluate his insurance options after his current health insurance plan was canceled as a result of the law, he came upon an apparent and serous security flaw. The HealthCare.gov website disclosed eligibility letters addressed to individuals from another state, South Carolina, people that Mr. Hadley had never met or knew.

Neither Mr. Hadley or the two people in South Carolina whose personal information he had been presented with were able to get any satisfaction form the HHS and Obama Care supporter operations to fix what is obviously a serious security breech. In a bit of irony, the Obama Care website promises right on the South Carolina personal information letters that “The Health Insurance Marketplace protects the privacy and security of personally identifiable information.” Fell a little short on that promise, didn’t they?

This Heritage Foundation report goes ont to quote a information technology cyber security expert, Steve Bucci,  and his opinion about the entire HealthCare.gov security mess:

  • “Once it goes out over the system, it is vulnerable. There appears to have been a singular lack of concern for security. The site needs to receive and transmit sensitive personal information, yet it has less than state of the art security.”
  • “Functionality and security have to be the hallmark of programs like this one. The site has failed on both counts and has further weakened the confidence of the American people.”

That’s enough for today, too depressing, more to come tomorrow. But we continue to verify that millions of Americans will be or already have lost access to their favored insurance policies and doctors, the security breeches in the whole Obama Care processes are indeed real and shameful, that very few people have signed up or are able to sign up for Obama Care exchange health insurance coverage, the President continues to lie about the ramifications of his signature law when severely underestimating the number of people negatively affected by the legislation, and most sadly, we continue to come across ailing Americans whose vital and preferred care to treat their cancers and other maladies is being severely restricted by Obama Care’s tenets.

Again, our contention that this is the worst piece of legislation ever to come out of Washington appears to be uncontested again.
