August, 2019, Part 1, The Unfolding Disaster That Is Obama Care: A Quick Review of Obama Care's Major Failures

Every month for years now we have had to discuss how bad Obama Care is turning out to be under the continuing theme, “the unfolding disaster that is Obama Care.” This month is no different. As the legislation continues to march through America, driving up health care and health insurance prices as it serves as dead weight on economic growth, it cements its rightful place as the worst piece of legislation Washington has ever produced.

It never had a chance to be successful since it really never addressed the underlying root causes of our ever increasing health costs in the country:
  • Americans eat too much of the wrong kind of food, resulting in obscenely high obesity rates for the country.
  • Our food chain is infested with overdoses of high fructose corn syrup, salt, sugar, and other unhealthy additives.
  • Americans smoke too much.
  • Americans do not exercise enough.
  • The country is in serious need of health care tort reform.
  • Barriers to insurance company competition across state lines need to come down.
  • Obama Care never “followed the money” to find out who is actually profiting from the ever escalating healthcare costs in this country and how to get those factors under control.
  • Obama Care never got the immense amount of fraud and abuse in current government healthcare programs, Medicare and Medicaid, under control in order to save money to efficiently fund other government health care initiatives.
  • Obama Care never put serious research money towards curing the major diseases that drive high healthcare costs such as high frequency cancers and dementia type diseases.
You cannot resolve any problem unless you understand and address the underlying root causes. No difference here: Obama Care legislation never addressed these listed root causes and thus, has no chance of ever being successful.

But it is not just missing the root causes of our healthcare costs that makes Obama Care so horrible. It resulted in millions of Americans losing access to their favored doctors, hospitals, and insurance policies. It has caused insurance premiums, deductibles and copays to escalate substantially. It will likely add trillions of dollars to the national debt. It has exposed millions of Americans to higher than necessary identity theft chances. It has created government bureaucracies that are wastefully spending taxpayer wealth and being exploited by criminal elements. It has stifled economic growth and job creation.

These are just a sample of the types of idiocy that we have been reviewing for the past several years in this blog relative to Obama Care. To read those past posts, just enter the phrase, “the unfolding disaster,” in the search box above.

We have not talked about the total failure that Obama Care is since it has slowly been dying a painful, ugly death for the past few years. It never came close to attaining the goals that were set out or the promises that people like Obama constantly harped on. Thus, I thought it would be a good idea just to do a quick, top line review of the many ways Obama Care failed, especially relevant since many liberal politicians want to go even further than Obama when it comes to controlling your health care:
  • By a few years ago, Obama Care was supposed to have signed up about 21 million Americans to its health insurance policies. By that time, however, it had signed up about 11 million, barely half of its stated objective.
  • But even that 11 million is bogus since because as a result of Obama Care tenets, about 7 million American lost access to their current and preferred health insurance policies and thus, the net gain from Obama care is only about 4 million people covered by Obama Care policies, about only 20% of the stated objective.
  • Obama promised dozens, if not hundreds of times, that if you liked your current doctors you could keep your current doctors under Obama Care, a promise that was nothing but a cruel lie from the beginning:

  • Obama promised dozens, if not hundreds of times, that if you liked your current health insurance you could keep your current health insurance under Obama Care, a promise that was nothing but a cruel lie from the beginning:

  • Obama promised that obtaining an Obama Care policy online would be as simple as ordering something from Amazon, another cruel set of lies since simple was not the rule of thumb when trying to navigate Obama Care systems.
  • In addition, Obama Care data systems were a massive failure from a data security/identity theft perspective and were made operation even though they had not passed the standard government systems testing that is required of all Federal systems, making the entire process illegal from a Federal law perspective.
  • Obama Care was supposed to “bend the cost curve downwards” and reduce health care costs but in reality made health care and health insurance more expensive than they would have been if the law had never been passed.
  • In fact, Obama promised that some American households could see their annual health insurance costs go down by upwards of $2,500 a year, a reality that never had a chance of happening.
  • This resulted in thousands and thousands of Americans ending up with Obama Care policies that were much more expensive from a premium and deductible perspective than their previous policy had cost.
  • Obama Care policies also narrowed down the doctor and hospital networks that were covered by Obama Care policies making it much more difficult and time consuming to actually find a doctor or hospital that accepted Obama Care policies vs. what had been the previous state of the industry.
  • Obama promised that Obama Care would not add a single dime to the national debt but the Congressional Budget Office a few years pegged the incremental national debt hit because of Obama Care at just under $2 TRILLION in the first ten years.
  • In a sick, twisted logic Obama Care fined Americans that could not afford health care insurance as if making them pay for something they could not afford was a good thing.
  • Obama unilaterally delayed the small business (SHOP) mandates from his own Obama Care legislation, without Congressional approval, violating Article II, Sections 3 and 4 of the Constitution.
  • Obama unilaterally delayed the employer mandates, without Congressional approval, from his own Obama Care legislation without Congressional, violating Article II, Sections 3 and 4 of the Constitution.
  • Obama unilaterally decided, without Congressional approval, that Obama Care enrollees in states using only the Federal health care exchange, i.e. those states that did not set up their own Obama Care exchange, would also be eligible for Obama Care subsidies, violating his own Obama Care legislation and violating Article II, Sections 3 and 4 of the Constitution.
  • Obama unilaterally decided, without Congressional approval, that those personal insurance policies that insurance companies had to legally terminate as a result of Obama Care could indeed stay in effect, violating Article II, Sections 3 and 4 of the Constitution.
  • Obama unilaterally decided, without Congressional approval, to change out many more tenets and deadlines of the Obama Care legislation (e.g. delaying the caps on out of pocket medical expenses, waiving the income proof requirement for subsidies, waiving the criminal background checks on Obama Care navigators, etc.), violating Article II, Sections 3 and 4 of the Constitution.
  • Obama’s administration allowed lucrative taxpayer funded financial credits to Congressional members and their staffs to pay for Obama Care policies in violation of the Obama Care legislation, violating Article II, Sections 3 and 4 of the Constitution.
  • Obama Care legislation forced many businesses to put their employees on a part time basis, reducing the hours and wages those employees would receive, in order for the business to survive the financial obligations that Obama Care imposed on them.
  • Obama Care legislation forced individuals, companies, and charities to violate their own religious beliefs relative to contraception and birth control, violating those citizens’ and organizations’ First Amendment rights.

You get the idea, what a train wreck the entire process of Obama Care was and still is in many people’s lives. As stated above, we review this disaster since many Democrats running for President have learned nothing from this experience. Government bureaucracies and the politicians that operate them never do anything effectively or efficiently.

Obama Care is a major, prime example: cost overruns, under deliverance of promises, broken promises and lies, and a situation that is worse off afterwards than beforehand. Think about it: the Federal government has operated a postal system for hundreds of years and still have not gotten it right, the Postal System loses billions of dollars every year. The Federal government has operated Medicaid and Medicare for decades and both of those programs, along with Social Security, are hurtling towards bankruptcy. The Federal government has operated a “do not call list” for years and that has also proven to be a failure, given the number of junk calls I get every week.

And now those same types of people want to go to a single payer healthcare system and control EVERY aspect of you healthcare. Does anyone think that is a good idea? If you do then you need to SLOWLY reread the above paragraphs.

In our next post we will review some of the massive failures that single payer healthcare systems have experienced around the world to give another perspective on how allowing Democratic candidates for President and the Federal bureaucracy to run every aspect of healthcare in this country is sooooo stupid. But being stupid never stopped an American politician, did it?
